We are visitors here in Cape May, friends brought us here, fancy digs, but very nice brunch, great omelette!

Blue Pig is tucked into the back of Congress Hall. Once we found the entrance, we asked the hostess if we needed to feed the meters since it's off-season. She had no idea (but we discovered the answer was Yes). They were doing a brisk business on a Monday afternoon in November. We all enjoyed our meals - I especially liked my turkey burger with feta and tzatziki. Servers were no-nonsense and not very friendly. Didn't care for the ambiance - it's a little old fashioned for me. At least the food was good.

Looking for a festive meal in a historic venue? Stop by the Blue Pig Tavern in old Cape May. Located in Congress Hall, there is plenty of history dating back to the founding of the thirteen colonies. I found myself on a cool summer evening, watching tourists and locals weave in and out, whiling away the time and digging into a huge plate of fish and chips. The portions were big and the food was prepared exactly as expected. If you're looking for some historical flavor to add to your meal, powder your wig, think like a revolutionary, and stop by the Blue Pig Tavern.

Another fabulous dinning experience. The food is delicious. We sat outside and brought our Schnoodle with us. Listened to live music, relaxed and had a few drinks. Congress hall is such a beautiful place. Staff is very attentive.

CAPE MAY: Blue Pig Tavern is a classy restaurant serving up elevated American cuisine and drinks amongst the historic Congress Hall, Cape May resort. Blue Pig Tavern allows leashed and friendly dogs at their seasonal outdoor seating and we really enjoyed dining under the pergola with fall decor and the backdrop of the hall. Serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we savored the avocado toast, eggs benedict, a side of home fries, and a nice warm latte on a chilly morning. In the off-season, they have portable heaters to keep things cozy. (FYI, Congress Hall hotel is not dog friendly inside.)

The Blue Pig is one of my favorite Cape May restaurants! The drinks, food, service, and atmosphere are all top notch! This restaurant is conveniently located off the mall and inside the Congress Hall Hotel. Congress Hall is beautiful and historic. It's a must try when visiting Cape May! The restaurant always has a great list of specials in addition to their menu. The bread was next level and served piping hot! We split the fried brussel sprouts (a special) and calamari to start. Both were fantastic! For my entree, I had the scallops. I love scallops and these were up there with some of my favorites I've ever had. The combo of the scallops with the bacon, sweet potato puree, brussels, and hazelnuts was truly perfect! I would order this again and again! A must try in Cape May!

We had lunch at the blue pig tavern today. It was good, not great. We had blueberry muffins, which were too enormous rolls with vanilla cream, frosting, and blueberries, nice. I had poached eggs with fried potatoes and spinach on a biscuit. Also nice. My seafood chowder was below average, thickened with lots of flour and more chicken than seafood in the base. We also had a smash burger that was delicious. The vegetarian omelette was average. Service was slightly slow.

This place has a really nice ambiance. Came here for brunch and we were right on the cusp where we could get either breakfast or lunch. This got a bit complicated when our waiter had to suddenly leave shortly after we put in our drink orders due to a family emergency (totally understandable, he's human). There was some confusion by the restaurant about who would be our replacement waiter. The food was pretty good. I got the lobster roll which was big (not the best lobster roll but still decent), my son loved his pistachio chocolate French toast and my daughter loved her pancakes. Spacious, really nice interior, one of the better restaurants in Cape May I would say.

Really nice spot with a great vibe -- ambience is warm and service was great. The food was pretty good overall, and the mimosas were definitely strong. Only downside: the home fries came with peppers and onions, which weren't mentioned on the menu -- would've been good to know in advance. Still, a solid brunch spot we always make sure to stop at when in Cape May.

Blue Pig Tavern came at the recommendation of my parents as a place to try for breakfast. When traveling, I like sitting for breakfast - and after checking out the menu this seemed to fit the bill. That being said, I made a reservation for the morning of my last day before heading home. BPT is located in Congress Hall; the hotel itself has a lot of history by being one of the oldest seaside resorts in Cape May - which is the US's oldest seaside resort town. So you can say it really all started here. The hotel has a lot of history, and the theming is a mix of upscale with classic Americana. That theming spills into BPT - it has a fresh look while still paying homage to its roots. I had an 8am reservation which was right when they opened and was seated in their outdoor enclosed porch. The breakfast menu has a good selection, broken down by egg dishes/omelettes, special dishes, waffles, pancakes, and sides. It's worth noting that several of the ingredients they use in the dishes come from Beach Plum Farm in West Cape May - a nice touch. Though I love pancakes and waffles, I wanted something a little higher in protein. After browsing, I landed on the Eggs Blackstone - kind of a spin on Eggs Benedict. The dish contained poached eggs, spinach, tomato, bacon, and black pepper hollandaise sauce all sitting atop cheddar biscuits. The dish was good - despite the components it wasn't too rich, and all of the flavors complemented each other. The dish came with potatoes on the side which were solid. Service was good; food was served in an appropriate amount of time and all the staff I interacted with were friendly. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Blue Pig Tavern - the food was a win, the service was solid, and the aesthetics were lovely. This is definitely a standout restaurant in Cape May and worth a visit.

Located near the lobby of Congress Hall. Came here for breakfast. Standard, average fare with friendly service. There's a nice patio outside for when the weather is warm. I had the avocado toast. Wasn't exactly what I was expecting - there was a little salad on top, which I thought would be on the side, but it was good. I also had a side of smoke salmon to add to the avocado toast, it was a nice sized portion. Convenient location for a quick breakfast.

My best friend and I visited this spot while they were decorated for the holidays, and it was stunning inside. We both ordered the salmon which was tasty. However, I will say the bread in the beginning may have been the star of the show. Our server was very thorough. Reasoning for 4 stars is because we did have to wait for seats despite having a reservation.

This restaurant is becoming one of our favorite spots to dine when we're in Cape May. Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Nestled inside Congress Hall, the ambiance inside and outside is spectacular. The inside seating is warm and rustic with a fireplace, the outside could be either sitting on their lovely patio where you have a view of the people coming and going through the shopping area or sitting out in the Congress Hall courtyard, that's usually available when the weather is nice. On this occasion we came for lunch and the weather was still a little cool so we opted to sit in their front porch area which is between the indoor and patio dining area. It was wonderful. To start off, my wife and I ordered a couple of martinis to go along with a half dozen Cape May Salts Oysters from our very friendly and attentive waitress. The martinis and the oysters were on point. After this we went with a couple of bowls of New England Clam Chowder which was some the best you will have. Creamy, flavorful and loaded with fresh clams. For our mains my wife ordered the Crispy Fish Sandwich which was beer battered fried haddock, served with tartar sauce, shaved lettuce, tomato, red onion and tavern fries which was delicious. I ordered the Fish & Chips, also with beer battered haddock, tavern fries, malt vinegar and tartar sauce which was honestly one of the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. The batter was so light and fish was so flavorful and tender. After we were done we went to have a couple of drinks in the Brown Room which is adjacent to the restaurant to cap off just a wonderful experience. This place is really such a solid choice when you're visiting Cape May, we will definitely be coming here often.

Ask the Community - Blue Pig Tavern

    Is there parki g?

There's valet parking for one hour if you're not staying at the hotel. Street parking and parking lots have meters.

    Is the outdoor area covered?

There are umbrellas over most tables.

    Do they do bottomless mimosas?

Not as of November 2019 when I was last there. And the mimosas they do have are pricy. A carafe is $40.

Yelp Mad Batter…read morereally impressed me. There we were, in Cape May on Thanksgiving Saturday looking for parking nearby. After finally finding a space, we walked up to Mad Batter, where there were already a number of people standing outside. We were a party of seven, so this wasn't looking good for us. Well, we had a Thanksgiving miracle. They had a table ready for us in less that ten minutes! The food and service here were both very good. I had the crab cake sandwich. It was very mild in flavor but still good. I recommend it, but I'll try some of their other offerings before I get it again. My sister-in-law had one of the specials, the Fried Tomato & Cracked Black Pepper Bacon Sandwich. She and my brother agreed that it was messy but delicious. The lobster mayo set it off nicely. Our server was really friendly and accommodating. She made sure we were taken well care of. We pointed out an error in the check, and she was very kind in taking care of it, and gave no attitude. If you can find parking, this place is worth coming to!

TO THE OWNER: Please…read moreremind all waitstaff to ask customers about any allergies before serving food, to ensure their safety and prevent any potential harm. I ordered the harvest salad with candied walnuts. I have no idea what candied walnuts are, so I wish the waiter asked if I had any allergies because they can SOMETIMES contain cinnamon in it and I am allergic to cinnamon. When the salad came out I started to eat the salad and noticed my throat starting to feel funny. I didn't mix the salad well so I just ate the arugula with the sauce and the chicken. Half way through I noticed there were walnuts and I took a bite of it and my throat immediately started to swell and I can feel my face and tongue getting itchy. Thank god I have my allergy medications on me, but what if the next person this happens to doesn't... We immediately told the server about my cinnamon allergy and the waiter looked at me like I was joking because I ate half of it and then asked me "So you're done with that?" and I said, "Yes I can't eat it anymore, I'm allergic to it and it's contaminated with everything else. I felt my throat starting to close up, but I am okay because I have my allergy medicine. " He asked if I wanted anything else and I said no just a hot tea to help with inflammation. I appreciate that the server was trying to help us out, but he still came back with the bill and said the owner is still going to charge me because it says candied walnuts on the menu, implying that it's my fault...I really expected this place to have better service, but looking at past reviews I can see how this place has overpriced underrated food and terrible service. They don't care about their customers and certainly just focused on making money. Hopefully after today they include that their candied walnuts have cinnamon in it! Or at the very least ask the customers if they have any allergies beforehand

While the…read morekitchen and bar are clearly talented, the service and management decisions completely ruined the evening. The Positives: I have to give credit where it is due as the food and drinks were genuinely great. We ordered the calamari, celery root soup, scallops, and the chicken breast. Everything came out delicious and perfectly prepared. The drinks were also a highlight specifically the pomegranate margarita and the winter sangria. The bartender clearly knows what they are doing. The Service: Absent and Unprofessional. Unfortunately, the night took a sharp turn regarding the service. Our waitress was virtually non existent. She spent the entire night chatting with another couple, barely sparing a moment for our table outside of taking the initial order. It got to the point where the bartender had to do the waitresses job. Our drinks were sitting on the bar for quite a while until the bartender finally walked them over to us, saying, "I just wanted to drop these off so they wouldn't sit out." Later, we watched the bartender go into the back and run food to the other couple, the very table our waitress was busy socializing with, telling them he, "just wanted to bring this out so it would still be hot." The bartender was acting more like a waiter than our actual server was. Sketchy Billing & Atmosphere: Things got even stranger when the check arrived. We noticed a $24 charge for a "cheeseburger"--an item that isn't even on the menu. We flagged down the waitress, and before we could even explain the issue, she immediately said, "Oh yes, you are right, there is an error, sorry about that." It was an incredibly odd reaction; she knew there was an error before we even vocalized what was wrong. To top it off, the dining room was absolutely freezing. When we asked why, the waitress claimed the heat was broken. However, upon visiting the restroom, the heat was pumping just fine. It felt deliberate--like a corner cutting measure to save money during the off-season rather than a genuine mechanical failure. Overall: Despite the food being delicious, the terrible service, the suspicious billing "error," and the uncomfortable temperature make this a place I cannot recommend. For the price point, you expect a certain level of professionalism and comfort, and Ebbitt Room failed on both counts. I will not be returning.
