We came here for Restaurant Week and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Their restaurant week menu had a lot of interesting choices for the prix fixe meal. Our favorites were: the grilled shrimp bruschetta, the scallops, and the lobster scampi. The shrimp bruschetta was such a great appetizer that could easily be promoted to an entree if the restaurant chose to. It was such a good balance of flavors and it was plated so beautifully. The crab cakes were a very lump cake that was very good. The scallops went so well with the capers and the potato puree. Everything served to us was so delicious and I could've easily gone for seconds for each dish. The only criticisms I had of our meal was that the service was a bit slow and the lighting was a tad too dim. I would still highly recommend checking out this place, the food has a lot of unique personality, is good value, and incredibly delicious. read more

Couldn't believe what a hidden gem Sea Salt was! My partner and I stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. The nachos were huge and so good we couldn't stop eating them. I had the mussels scampi, my boyfriend had the chicken BLT, and both were delicious. Can't wait to come back for dinner next trip. The bar seemed like a vibe and they do have a piano man that performs on the weekend. read more

I was in Cape May and went to SeaSalt for dinner one night. SeaSalt is conveniently located on Beach Avenue and has large windows looking out towards the ocean. I started with a cranberry juice and for my appetizer got the scallops. They were very good and served with a nice pesto sauce that went perfectly with the charred top. For my entree, I got the branzino. It was pretty decent with a crispy outside and a tender inside. I got the peach cobbler for dessert, which the waitress recommended - it was decent. I would not say that I loved it, though, and nothing about it really popped. We were seated in a table near the back of the restaurant. The downsides that I found was that a large plant was located right behind my seat and there were also a lot of flies in the restaurant. Altogether, SeaSalt is a nice place to get a good meal in Cape May. read more

The food was really good.... except for boiled Brussels sprouts thrown on my plate. My father's were seasoned and browned. BUT the service was pretty bad. We sat for over 2 hours. Waited 45 minutes for our first course. As we had our meal 4 tables sat and left. We had to flag down our waitress and tell her what do. Disappointing. We've been staying at the beach club hotel for 5 Summers now and breakfast there has in the past been one of my favorite parts. Things have really gone downhill. They seated us and did not come back for 20 minutes. No coffee, nothing. Eventually my mom went and served herself coffee and the waitress came over and yelled at her. Very rude waitress. We waited 45 minutes for yogurt and eggs. The eggs were cold when they came out. The service was awful but what really bothers us is how much of our day we spent there when we could have been on the beach or pool. We've been there for dinner before which was awful. Breakfast used to be good but I'll never go again. They really upset my mother. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant. I made a 5:30 PM reservation despite seeing some negative reviews, thinking it couldn't be that bad since me and my husband aren't really picky. They had plenty of availability, and now I understand why. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty with tons of open tables. The hostess asked if we'd mind sitting outside. I explained it was too hot for our one-year-old, and we preferred to sit inside. She brought us to the back of the restaurant and sat us at a tiny two-person table crammed between two larger tables, one with a party of six to eight people, and the other with two adults and a baby (they were sitting at a four person table). Even if it were just me and my husband, the two person table would've been tight, but adding a high chair made it completely unworkable. Our toddler could reach everything on the table, including the bread basket, and was close enough to touch the other diners' tables. After trying to make it work after ordering a few appetizers, we realized it just wasn't feasible. I went back to the host stand to explain the situation and asked politely if we could move, even if that meant sitting outside. The hostess said she'd see what she could do... and then never came back for 20 minutes. During that time, someone brought us a Caesar salad that belonged to someone else. Eventually, the hostess returned and said there were no other available tables, not even outside , until 7:30 PM. Meanwhile, the restaurant and outdoor patio still looked mostly empty. Frustrated, we asked for the check. At that point, I was in tears. A man I assume was the manager finally came over and offered to move us to a different table - but at that point, the experience was already ruined and I made an unnecessary scene hysterical crying at the table. Where was that table 40 minutes ago? We ended up paying $70 for a glass of wine, Caesar salad, bruschetta, and soup -- all thrown in a box to go, which ended up in the garbage. The soup was watery and they barely gave us any salad. Thankfully, we went to Pier House (inside La Mer Hotel) afterward and had a fantastic dinner. Highly recommend that spot instead. The service and food are great. When I went to leave a review on OpenTable the next morning, I noticed Sea Salt had canceled my reservation, meaning I couldn't leave feedback there. Excellent! More people need to be talking about this restaurant. I've been to most of the fine dining establishments in cape May and really think that this place blew several of them out of the water. Firstly the ambiance is great. Staff was very friendly. There is a chance a seagull will go after your food if you eat outside. They will not take it off your bill. I didn't have that issue. read more

My husband and I decided to grab a bite at the poolside area of this restaurant. He got the French dip sandwich, and I went for the quesadilla. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much since quesadillas can be pretty hit or miss, but this one really surprised me. It was easily one of the top five I've ever had--perfectly cooked with just the right amount of cheese and seasoning. My husband really enjoyed his French dip sandwich too. The beef was tender, and the au jus added a nice touch. We also tried a couple of their specialty drinks, which were tasty and refreshing. The poolside ambiance was nice as well, plus the service was quick, and the staff was friendly without being overbearing. Our food and drinks came out promptly, which we appreciated. Overall, we had a great time. The food was delicious, the drinks were good, and the setting was perfect for a laid-back meal. Okay late in this review as it was end of September while I was visiting Jersey Shore area.... I had breakfast outside on their patio as no sitting inside that day due to COVID concerns. The restaurant is located across the street from the Atlantic Ocean ;) where their are beaches you can access and weren't restricted that day....but on with the review.... Good size platings though food got cold quick so you needed to eat fast if you wanted warm meal. Wonderful service. I enjoyed the ambiance of being near the ocean. So Bravo. read more

NEVER go to this restaurant - the manager deserves to be fired. I went to this restaurant for dinner tonight. I was halfway through my food when I bit into a shard of glass which cut the back of my mouth. I was bleeding so the waitress called the manager over. The manager said he would only comp for the specific plate with the glass in it. When we asked why they would not comp the entire bill, he accused us of planting the glass in the food. Verbatim he said "how do I know you didn't plant that there." We decided not to finish our meal and asked for the check. After paying in cash, I realized we were shorted on the change, so I asked for appropriate change back. The manager then proceeded to yell at us in front of other diners and told us "you are blacklisted from returning here." The waitress was very apologetic. I then tried to leave a review on OpenTable but after paying the bill and leaving, my husband received an email that the restaurant had canceled our reservation, despite the fact that we went and paid the bill. SeaSalt is associated with the upscale Ocean Club hotel so its guests can be seen there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Large windows afford views of the ocean. The outside patio is a choice spot for summer dining. Typically over the last 20 years, I have drinks/dinner here at least once during an annual10-day summer stay in CM. At the quiet end of Beach Avenue. The SeaSalt Cafe has nice quiet tables outside. We were inside but volume ( children at two other tables) inside was a little loud for us. Ok now the important part. The food was really delicious. I had my usual dinner of Salmon , over risotto Salmon great! Risotto I'm not a fan . Two friends had the Lobster pot pie in a cream sauce. It was served in a piping hot cast iron fry pan. The both LOVED IT! The crust flakey and lobster pieces were a nice size. The table looked out onto the ocean and a beautiful breeze ruffled the tables. Will be going there again. read more

Before going to SeaSalt I tried to view the menu online and it was extremely hard to find. After seeing the physical menu I was surprised at how limited it was. The restaurant was very accommodating to the rain and having only outside seating. Everything was wiped down and umbrellas were repositioned which was nice. My friends and I sampled mostly the appetizer portion of the menu and everything was very tasty and fresh. I think the highlight would have to be the colossal crab meat cocktail. So I wanted to leave an honest review of this resturant. We booked Sea Salt for dinner after reading reviews of others. We expected a great dining experience, but not sure about the palate of the other diners who have left reviews. We are from NYC, so we are used to good food and great culinary experiences. Sea Salt reviews fooled us into thinking we were in store for the same. The service left a lot to be desired. Our server, although very sweet and courteous could hardly be heard over the sound of the musician playing. Had to tell her to speak up a couple of times. I ordered the Filet Medium done. The filet was dry and hard and just blah. I stopped eating halfway cause it was hard to cut. My gf ordered the halibut and it was doused in so much salt that she stopped eating after 2 bites. With entrees costing $45 each thats a lot of money to just waste. I also ordered an old fashioned to drink that I had to return after 1 sip cause it was soo bitter. The waitress did admit that a Manager was making drinks cause the bartender was out. They did take the drink off the bill. The saving grace of the evening was a homemade honey ice cream that rocked. It was deliciois and not too sweet. Honestly we recommended to some of our friends who wanted to come here for dinner to find another place to eat. Cape May has a ton of good food options and in this day and age after the pandemic resturants need to do a better job of serving their customers who are dropping that much money on a dinner. SeaSalt provided an incredible dining experience. A beautiful restaurant, with attentive staff (but not overly so). The August '23 menu was seasonal and local. We devoured the octopus appetizer, it was cooked perfectly and the flavor blend of the sauces and chutney was perfect. My husband really enjoyed the braised short rib. But - the duck breast entree was absolutely amazing. Beautifully prepared, and the pesto, the blueberry sauce, all of it, was a taste and flavor paradise. Seriously, one of the best dishes I've ever been lucky enough to enjoy. A good wine list with plenty of great offerings by the glass as well. No dessert, but they looked very enticing! Where do I even begin??? How about with the first thing that I experience when I walk in: flies, confused hostess, and flies. So. Many. Flies. I came to Cape May to celebrate the 4th of July. My group of 10 made a reservation for lunch in this near empty restaurant. They were quick to shuffle the tables around and seat our big group. That's about the only positive thing. Food: My friend and I ordered the soft shell crab sandwich ($15) and crab (or lobster? Can't remember) flat bread ($15) to split. Both were overpriced, below average, and sparse on the shellfish. The waitress recommended the flatbread over the sandwich, but honestly, they're both just sad. The flatbread was especially sad as there wasn't much lobster on it, and it looked like the chef just sprinkled some old bay on at the end. I can make my own pizza at home and it'd taste better and be cheaper. Service: SO. SLOW. Save your time and money and just go to the outdoor food shacks a bit down the shore. Giving three stars instead of two since their coming out of COVID-19 and labor shortage. At this point,, it is really a two star restaurant. Menu not changed on web site - no boulibaise and other items changed. Five small scallops for $36. Lump crab app is a crab salad with mayo (not aoli as advertised) and honey mustard served in a plastic cup for $18.00. Halibut fresh and flaky. Grocery store bread with foil wrapped butter packets at a pricey restaurant. Ketchup packets - at least the salt and pepper packets are gone. Recently changed ownership. Let's hope new owners put it back on track. Presently, not worth the time or money. read more

Understanding that Covid makes things so much tougher on a restaurant, this is easily one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. Everyone is out there trying their best, but when things like your waitress poking her finger into your bread bowl happen, I'd say that's bad service and not Covid. The folks at host stand were very pleasant and accommodating and things started off well. They unfortunately spiraled quickly and hard. We received the aforementioned bread bowl with rock hard and dripping wet butter packets that had obviously recently been taken out of somewhere refrigerated. The waitress took that moment to poke into the bowl to ensure we weren't lying to her. Pandemic seems like a great time to poke your customers food. After waiting a not insignificant amount of time, we were told there were no more and the restaurant also didn't have a drop of olive oil they could use in place either. They unfortunately were short staffed on bar so we waited for drinks as well, which we didn't mind. Unfortunately the drink was not what we ordered so we gave it to the waitress who never even bothered to ask what the issue was. You can bet your bottom dollar she left it on the check and then got angry when we asked for it to be removed. She made sure to leave a piece of paper inside that she largely wrote complained all over. Cute. The appetizers were delicious so we decided to stick around. The dinner was not so good. I'd say it was ok if it was about a quarter of the price. But a $50 steak which was overcooked and 1/4 of which was pure fat that had to be discarded simply isn't worth the money. Maybe it was just a really bad off night, as the several other tables around me who were all upset and one who even stormed off before getting their meal can attest to. But I'd say if we need to wait out Covid before getting decent service anywhere, maybe go somewhere that your meal won't cost you $200. read more

This is a newer fancy-ish restaurant (new by Cape May standards; they've been here for years). I've eaten here a couple of times. The price is fairly similar to Washington Inn or Peter Shields, and the food is quite nice, but I do admit I've never felt like it was the same quality as some of the other top restaurants. There's a level of perfection that is missing at Sea Salt that is expected (and easily met) by those other restaurants that just isn't quite met here. Again, not to say that Sea Salt isn't great, just not that top tier of awesomeness. I had the crab-crusted halibut, and the halibut could have used some salt or lemon to kick up the flavor. The espresso creme brûlée was surprisingly warm and quite runny, but the flavor was nice. The oysters were a little small and one was gritty. So again, it was all basically tasty; just not that level of perfection one could expect for Cape May or for the price. The crab and corn chowder was on point, though, and they have a full bar and outdoor seating (it's that last factor that found us here and not one of our usual haunts). They also seemed to have a kids menu, judging by the cutie at the table next to us who had a little hamburger with fries and ketchup. He put the ketchup in his toy truck and drove it all around their table - it made my night! I imagine it would be fantastic to eat here with kids, feeling safer in the outdoor seating, getting relatively fancy food for the adults, and not stressing if the kiddos spill anything on the deck! (But I'm still thankful to my mom for taking ours for the evening ) read more
