Two options for seating- Double bar area and more family style sit down( there's a bar on this side too). The double bar area has two bars duh and a stage for live music. They do trivia on Monday nights and have cool events every night of the week like karaoke etc. Blueberry mojito- basic flavor, nothing too exciting. Very refreshing $13 Cherry vanilla old fashioned- very good, great bourbon flavor and not overly sweet $15 Waited over 45 mins for our food Fish tacos- classic fish tacos. We came here for the Mother's Day Brunch pretty much on the spur of the moment. We were passing by the building, saw that there was a Brunch Buffet, looked at the menu (and decided to give it a try. Great decision. Everything from start to finish was amazing. Our server Sam provided us their regular menu and walked us through what was included in the Mother's Day Brunch buffet. We went with the buffet (which included endless Mimosas but we skipped that). The menu was incredible with a wide variety of food. There were your typical breakfast staples like scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, bacon, and pancakes. There was also a tray full of eggs benedicts too! Then, there were more lunch/dinner foods which included Ahi Tuna, Caprese Salad, charcuterie tray, Smoked Salmon, Chicken Breast, Braised Lamb, French Vegetables, Mashed Potatoes, mushrooms, and freshly carved Prime Rib. For dessert there were chocolate chip cookies, canoli, and fresh fruit. Naturally, I had to try it all. Everything that entered my mouth that day was delicious. All the ingredients were seasoned incredibly well. Each dish had very powerful and distinct flavors. I was completely blown away by almost every dish I tasted. Even something like the ham in the eggs benedict had a noticeable strong flavor. I think my absolute favorite dishes of the meal are the Chicken Breast and the Prime Rib both tied for number one. The chicken breast was roasted with the skin on which was the perfect taste between crispy and fatty. The Prime Rib which is carved freshly had a horseradish sauce along with some other broth that I cant' remember the name of now. At this point, it's pretty obvious I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Although, one nitpick which isn't a big deal: might be to have seated us closer to the buffet which was in a separate room. To be fair, they didn't know we were going with the buffet option until after we sat down so I can't really hold it against them. To our shock, they gave us a discount on the brunch since neither of us had any Mimosas. For once, a pleasant billing surprise from an establishment! Based on our experience on Mother's Day, I think I would come back to try their regular menu. The staff was incredibly helpful, the place has good vibes, and the food was phenomenal. Table of 3 came here for restaurant week, a prefixed menu. You got to pick and appetiser, main and dessert. Thanksgiving egg roll and lobster bisque were excellent. The scallop appetiser was very flavourful, but the scallop was very undercooked. The filet mignon was very good just not cooked the way it was ordered and came out very rare. The Chilean Sea bass is a delicate fish and should be cooked accordingly, it was served in a very heavy sauce with peppers and other vegetables that didn't complement the fish at all. The menu description was not accurate at all. I really didn't like the taste of the dish and just scrapped the sauce off and ate the fish. I would not recommend this selection. The crème brûlée was delicious, but I am assuming because of the prefixed menu it was very skimpy and only a tiny thin layer of crème, was mostly sugar topping. We came here a year ago and loved the service, food and atmosphere. We are from Maryland and left early so we could get there in time for dinner and watch the band again. We waited around 30 minutes for our dinner and my husband's burger AND bun came out burnt and my cali chicken sandwich was pretty much missing the chicken (see pictures below). We informed the waitress and she said she would talk to a manager (who never came to our table). They redid our food and it was MUCH better. Just disappointing that they would think the 1st time was ok to serve. We will try it again next time we visit. Hopefully this was just an "off" night. First night in town and went to Carneys because there was no wait. After dinner I know why... Service was great and why I was willing to give three stars. Waitress was very friendly and helpful but the food was not great. Had the bang bang shrimp and was not impressed. Small portion and lacking flavor. Best part of the meal was the pizza. Not sure why some comments provide such great reviews, but my review is not complimentary. I do not usually provide negative reviews, but I felt obligated to write my review about Carney's. We visited this restaurant during my family's visit to Cape May with our grandchildren last week. We ordered Lobster Bisque soup for all the adults. It was the worst soup we have ever had. It tasted like it came from a can and was supplemented with something else to mask its canned origin. We also ordered Bang Bang Shrimp. It had an awful sauce on it. Our meals were brought piecemeal necessitating that some of us start eating before our meals got cold. However, the meals were mildly cool when they arrived anyway. It was awkward for some of us to start eating while others waited for their meals. This meal experience was further soured when we received the bill. It was a lot of money to pay for such a meal and experience. I suppose the meals would have been acceptable if we had drunk a lot of alcohol, but considering it was the middle of the day, we stuck to water. Also, since we were here with our grandchildren, we needed to change one of our grandchildren's diapers. However, we could not use the changing table in the ladies room because it was soiled with hardened fecal matter, thus had to change the diaper on a bench in front the beach. Sorry to the owner's for this review, but a restaurant needs to really be in tune with their food and customer experience. read more

Many years of vacationing in Cape May I have to say I've eaten at Carneys for the past 30 yrs and have never had a bad meal. The food is fresh and delicious! Tonight I had the chicken BLT and it was tasty and generously portion. My friends had the shrimp tacos & the hot roast beef sandwich and each one commented how delicious it was! In the past I've had the steamers, bang bang shrimp, crab cake and their burgers to name a few and i have never been disappointed! Service is always good and the ambiance for a bar is perfect! We love going to Carney's. It was one of my mom's favorite places for years and years and when she passed, she wanted us to all go to Carney's after sprinkling her ashes so we did. We have been vacationing in Cape May yearly since the 70's and as a family, it is our favorite destination anywhere. We all flew in from around the country to honor her birthday on June 26. The food was delicious and our server was decent but the bartender, at the back bar had a bad attitude and does not know how to make a cocktail. I ordered 3 different drinks, a lemon drop and 2 different martinis and all 3 were cloudy and tasted like grapefruit juice. Not only does he have trouble making a drink but his communication style is extremely rude and dismissive. On top of that, a set of head phones were left behind, that ended up in the lost and found and then we were told they were no longer there, that one of the bartenders took them home. What a mess. I can't speak for the other 20 family members but I will not return. So disappointed. read more

I stopped in for a beer on a stroll down Beach Ave. I ordered a Cape May IPA. My bill came and I was charged $13.39 for my one beer. I paid my bill and left, feeling like it was very overpriced. Later that night, I was again walking down Beach Ave and I looked at the menu posted outside of Carney's. The Cape May IPA should have been $9, so I was overcharged by $4.39. Went there for restaurant week. Pre-fix menu. We pre-ordered and waitress even said do you want to preorder desert and we said yes. My wife has celiac so limited stuff she can have. We ordered, my wife ordered scallop app, filet mignonette and crème brûlée. Waitress said out of filet and the hostess should of told us, we would of left at the door as that was o e of two main items my wife could eat. She ended up ordering the shellfish dish but said no bread, she is highly allergic to wheat having celiac. I ordered my meal and ordered the s'more pizza. My wife's meal comes out with the bread right on it. We the finish and waitress says out of crème brûlée, only desert my wife could have so she got none. I said I will take another dessert, nuttella pizza to go. Waitress comes out with just the to go one and says out of the s'more pizza, which the table that came after got there's. I still tipped waitress 15%, usually do 20-25, and left a note. Not a free drink, nothing. It was a complete joke! I live down here and have went to Carneys for drinks many years, never again! It was the second night of restaurant week, how can they already be out of stuff! This used to be my and my family's favorite bar in Cape May, but in recent years we've been repeatedly disappointed. The ambiance may be the best part about this place, though the music can be much too loud some nights. The food is decent but many options on the Washington St Mall have close, cheaper options (Ugly Mug and Delaney's, for example). Drinks, similarly, are alright but priced exorbitantly--$12 for a six oz mixed drink, for example. The current state of service has got to be the greatest detriment to the place. From the hosts to waiters to bartenders and especially bouncers, there seems to be a culture issue causing them to be slow and uncommunicative at best, to blatantly inhospitable at worst. This seems to be the easiest fix, however judging by past reviews and responses, management has done little to nothing to remedy this. I'm hoping a staff overhaul will restore Carneys to its former glory, but until then I recommend visitors try somewhere else. read more

my bf and i visited this restaurant. we were interested, knew what kind of prices we were going to pay for. the food was good, the drink was okay. i had ordered a margarita that cost $12.00; tasted good but hardly the alcohol content. we ordered two pasta dishes. one was almost entirely eaten, one wasn't, so naturally wanted to bring it home. the "to go" box was not the appropriate box to bring home dripping pasta. i asked for an alternate to after which the server said "she looked everywhere" to find one, there was no alternative. so i couldn't bring the food home because this box was one, cardboard, and it was made with wholes on the sides, (a sandwich wouldve been perfect for it; kind of like a box you get a mcdonald's sandwich in.) so i had to leave practically a whole $37 entree there because they didn't have the appropriate container to take food home. i was very unhappy about that. so in conclusion, the food we personally had was good, the drink had no alcohol for the price, and we couldn't bring our food home because they didn't have proper carry out containers. if you eat your whole meal, great, don't worry about the review. but if your someone who doesn't, you'll feel cheated. read more
