Great ambiance! We stopped by for drinks and live music on a beautiful day outside! The menu seemed basic so I probably wouldn't try to eat here unless I was staying. read more

I was really disappointed with this place. The ambiance was amazing; perfect outdoor seating next to their beautiful building. The service was just ok, she wasn't very attentive after the food was brought over and it took awhile after finishing before we could flag her over for a check. The food is truly the biggest disappointment. I ordered a Caesar salad with blackened chicken. The chicken was rubbery and absolutely flavorless. The salad was drenched in dressing. While the dressing was tasty, there was way too much of it to actually enjoy the food. We did also order a chicken sandwich was tasted fine but the amount of chicken in the sandwich was less than expected for the size of the bun and toppings; it felt like we were cheated. Overall I don't plan to come back and I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

We attended with a party of 6 and were quickly seated at an outdoor table. Service was friendly and prompt. Menu selection was fairly basic but perfect to satisfy finicky eaters. Good cocktail menu and appetizers were good, we tried the hot pretzels, the beef empanadas, and the fried pickles. All were good. Mains were fair.. Great location and outdoor seating and live music was nice. Food slightly overpriced for what it was. Would give 3.5 stars if I could but rounding down as there are better places to eat in Cape May. read more

Great spot to enjoy some classic Americana bar food, even in the off season. Their outdoor bar and seating areas are a cool environment and the wait staff was all very friendly. Food came out very quick and burger was very tasty and as advertised. My only one, tiny issue was that it's a little over priced for just being regular bar food although I understand why, being a vacation town! read more

This was an interesting experience. The outdoor patio / bar area at Elaine's is top tier. This is the perfect place to stop for a cold drink, and they do such a cute job of decorating with the hanging American flags and string lights. It's gorgeous in every season, and even though my most recent visit was during summer I also loved my visit in the fall when the space was fully decked out for Halloween. Unfortunately the food is awful. We started things off with a very lackluster order of coconut shrimp. Not good, but I was hungry and it was edible. Things quickly got worse when our spinach dip came out, which was basically a bowl of plain heavy cream and a pile of completely burnt chips. Our server was nice enough to take this off the bill. With so many amazing food options around I'd eat elsewhere, but would come back for drinks in a heartbeat. read more

This review will serve as a warning to future patrons, rather than a complaint - since those seem to fall on the deaf ears of those in charge. We had a horrible experience with the bar manager, Ashley. About halfway through our drinks she came up behind us and started yelling, cursing, and belittling us. She screamed at us for being too loud, used several F words and was swinging her arms in the air. We were genuinely confused what went wrong, as we were not being rowdy, obnoxious or overly loud compared to the parties around us. She continued to yell at us across the room from behind the bar, boldly exclaiming that it was her job to tell us to "SHUT THE F**K UP." No warning, no couth, no manners. It is a manager's job to de-escalate a situation like this, however, Ashley was just very rude, and somehow proud of how unkind she was. Since this experience, I have come to find that we did not have a unique experience, Ashley does this frequently, and Elaine's upper management is aware and apparently happy with the way she represents their business. I have also now seen multiple social media posts posted by Elaine's advertising and making light of how rudely she treats their customers. It seems they have proudly made Ashley's terrible personality traits a part of their culture. read more

Great food, great atmosphere, amazing waitresses! But CREEPY staff and with the wandering eyes of the some of the men I'm assuming it was one of them. After calling about parking, receiving this message from a staff member off a private number was highly inappropriate and unprofessional. If it wasn't for this individual my entire experience would've been perfect read more

I went to Elaines for a quick brunch as they allowed pets at their outdoor tables. There are several patio tables for guests to dine at. I ordered the yogurt banana split. It came out and looked abysmally small for a $14 price tag. It was over priced but it was delicious. There was enouogh to feel full for the items they gave you but would feel more comfortable at $9 instead. I also had to ask for water for my pet where most places usually give you some right away. The food was good just a bit overpriced for what it is. The views are nice and the patio is great. The major perk was a pet friendly space. read more

Sunday evening after a long walk by the lighthouse four of us popped in and were seated immediately. An outdoor table on a mild summer night. I had a banana bread old fashioned to start and selected tuna tartare for my meal. Very light and vibrant. Our experience at Elaine's was extremely disappointing, and much of that came down to our interaction with the bar manager, Ashley. Our group was sitting outside on the deck, talking with each other. One of us is severely hard of hearing, so some of the group was speaking louder than normal so she could be part of the conversation. Ashley approached our group and spoke to us in a way that we found unnecessarily aggressive and disrespectful. She was yelling at us, calling us annoying as hell and yelled at us that it was her job to tell us to shut the f*** up. We were customers who were unaware that the hotel rooms were directly next to the deck, and we would have been happy to work with the staff if the situation had been handled respectfully. If there are quiet-hour expectations for the deck, I would strongly suggest clearly communicating those expectations to guests when taking drink orders or post a large sign explaining the environment. A simple request to lower our voices or to move farther away from the hotel rooms would have been enough. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, the way this interaction was handled by Ashley was appalling. We left feeling disrespected. Screaming at a group like that was unprofessional and rude. read more

Lovely atmosphere. Outside courtyard was perfect on a Labor Day Weekend. Drinks were fabulous. Had a jalapeño margarita that was one of the best I have ever had. My husband ordered the special Seafood Fra Diablo . It had scallops, shrimp, mussels and calamari in a delicious red sauce. Nothing was left on his plate. I ordered the scallops in a creamy white wine sauce. Scallops were tender in a delicate white sauce with sun dried tomatoes. Our waitperson Kiley Chew was knowledgeable on the menu and offered many good suggestions. She was very attentive to making sure we were enjoying our evening at Elaine's. read more

I love this place, have loved it forever. But a bartender laughed at us and made us feel like idiots for saying one drink was made incorrectly. Turns out, it was made incorrectly because the mixer was not what we ordered, and they then had to admit this. She (the bartender) made an effort to rally the bar around the fact that WE were the bad people for asking to fix it, and then took a shot with the other bartenders prior to getting back to work. Tremendously unprofessional and made a mockery of a bar I loved so much. read more

My wife saw this spot driving into Cape May and decided she wanted to try it. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere and entertainment. The bartender was very nice and attentive. Drinks were great which started things off nicely. Then we made the mistake of ordering food. We started with lobster egg rolls. They were bland and relatively tasteless. I know that you risk getting shells and cartilage with lobster, but a shell in every bite was a bit excessive. Thank goodness they were served with an aioli sauce that offered a dip of taste to fill the void. My wife ordered a "grilled" chicken sandwich. It was average, but it would have been nice if it had been grilled as advertised instead of deep fried chicken. I ordered crab and corn ravioli. This may have been the worst meal I've had in quite some time. I expected the ravioli filling to contain crab and corn; however, it appeared that this was just a topping added to the ravioli. The ravioli filling was some kind of congealed cheese filling, and I think the topping may have contained five or six pieces of crab, each the size of a kernel of corn. Speaking of corn, I'm still wondering if perhaps they had run out of corn, because I do not recall eating a single kernel of corn, and there was a total absence of any taste of corn. The plating was horrible, it almost seemed as though the dish had been finished in a microwave oven. The sauce was incredibly acidic and not very good. Won't repeat this mistake. read more

We had Ashley as our bartender tonight and she was amazing! we had a great atmosphere to watch the world cup, she was so knowledgeable and engaged in the game and her customers, she went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time and the game even through the rain. We came in as a family of five--including our 11 month old son, who we were planning to order a meal for--and were immediately told to get up from a six-top because we "didn't meet the minimum" -- which was FIVE people. Even after we explained we'd be ordering for everyone, including the baby, the waitress was rude and made us wait... only to seat us back at the same table because no smaller ones were available. Off to a great start. It only got worse from there. We waited 90 minutes for food while the table next to us (seated at the same time) got all their food, finished, and paid before we even had appetizers. The apps came incomplete, no plates were brought, and when the kids' pretzels finally came out--they were cold and soggy. Nobody checked on us, nobody cared. We ended up asking for the check before our dinners came out. The waitress then stated the kitchen was "backed up" which was pretty hard to believe considering everyone else around us was coming, eating and leaving. Total disaster from start to finish. Won't be back. read more

I couldn't help but write to let everyone know how horrible of an experience my family and I had at this restaurant this past Saturday night the 12th. I believe our server was Rachelle and we finished around 8:30. Their policy of seat yourself is a disaster from beginning to end. Not only does it force guests to compete for seats, but their staff loses track of table service. It took at least ten minutes to have a server come to our table. When the server arrived we were asked if we had placed an order. No drink order was taken, it would take another 20 minutes for that. Eventually when we did order, it took longer than it should have for our appetizers to arrive. After appetizers, our waitress came back over to ask if we would like anything else. Our answer was yes, the dinner we ordered. It was clear she forgot to put our order in. Our food came out probably a half an hour later. We never saw our waitress again. The food was inadequate....highlighted by a horrible chicken caesar salad. It was a small bowl of iceberg lettuce with layers of plain, unseasoned chicken on top, smothered in some mayonnaise like dressing. And of course we asked to speak with a manager, but were questioned on why we even needed to speak with one. Eventually another server came over and asked "did you need to talk to someone about something?" She was clearly disabled to some degree so we simply said no. Our waitress never came back.. We had to ask for our check. Another server helped with that, saying they were all a team. I guess a team when it come to taking money but not much of a team as they all walked by looking at us without food, receiving no service.. We have driven by this place for many years, hoping to stop by. The outdoor atmosphere always looks so nice and is decorated so well during the holidays. It was such a shame to receive the low level experience we did. It would take a lot for us to ever step foot on that property again, let alone not share our experience with all our guests visiting the area. read more

Food: 4/5: we've eaten here a couple of times. The k my thing that's remarkable is their lobster spring rolls. They're a bit pricey ($21) but chock full of lobster. The saffron aloli adds a bit of creaminess but I really just tastes like mayo. Service (5/5): Hope (bartender) is really great! We remember her from 2 years ago! Ambiance (4/5): Their Halloween decorations are a bit creepy (talking clowns and skeletons climbing the outside) but it's definitely fun for Halloween. The cute boutique next door is super cute, too! read more

Fantastic B&B. Only thing negative was where customers check-in. You get run over by the waitresses or other customers going to their room (s). Bad set up. Outdoor wait staff was very slow. Often walking by seeing your glasses empty. We had two drunk young couples outside on the porch upstairs directly by our BR window cussing & carrying on at 1:30 in the morning. Not good, won't go back. Very expensive too. Cocktails $14, kids hot dog & fries $15. Bring your checkbook! read more

Elaine's was so wonderful! I've wanted to go for years as I always pass it when I'm driving through Cape May. The atmosphere was lovely with the string lights + live music. We went for dinner for a party of 6; two of our party did not arrive with us and we told the server (blonde hair, seemed to be a bartender that evening). We sat at a table for 6. The aforementioned "server" came to our table and questioned the number of our party. We explained we had two more coming within ten minutes. She shook her head, rolled her eyes and walked away. A few minutes later She returned with the same rotten snotty attitude, repeated her question, then stating the table was for parties of 6. We reminded her we had two joining us and she interrupted asking "are they CLOSE?" And then said something about a "5 minute courtesy" and again walked away rudely and smugly. That's when we got up and walked out. There were several 6-top tables in that outdoor dining area with 4 people dining and 2 places sitting untouched. Very rude We will never go back read more

I have frequented the establishment and have had nothing but good things to say from the food to the ambience. Stopped in around 3:30 today to grab a bite to eat and have a drink. The waiter came with lunch menu's explaining they were getting close to changing to dinner but he was not sure if dinner was happening. This was not an issue and decided to make lunch choices but wanted to ask if dinner was being offered as a secondary option. After ordering drinks, we had asked if dinner was going to be served and he stated he wasn't sure and he "doesn't speak Spanish". We were extremely turned off by his comment and demeanor that we decided to pay for the two drinks and move to another establishment for food. There are few things that generally ask for a review but ignorance is one I feel needs to be brought to light. read more

Currently here waiting for our food - party of 4. I think our waiter had a language barrier I believe - so we had to repeat our order a lot. No one came to refill our water. The real reason for the rating was the food. Bland and basic. I had the crab cake sandwich - ugh. No flavor and a bunch of filler. Fries - nothing special. I asked for chipotle Mayo and got some type of runny thin sauce. My aunt did not like her shrimp tacos either. No one was impressed or happy with their food.
