Great German food, great German beer, and great service. Ambience isn't exactly "old-world Germany" but it's pleasant with no complaints. Stylish and clean. Cloth napkins and heavy flatware. The menu wasn't extensive but was a good selection of most things German (it's all German). Beer selection also isn't large but what's on tap is all German and all good and served in liter mugs (very German). Food was delicious, large portioned, moderately priced, and presented well. Our service was the best we've had at any restaurant for some time. Informative, pleasant, attentive, polite, etc., etc. She explained the menu, made recommendations, always had a smile on her face, and did everything in her ability to ensure our dining experience was positive. One of my favorite places to go with my family and with customers. Christina is legit German, their food and beers are great. I like ordering the "best" 4 or 5 items on the menu, sharing them and ordering more of what the group likes. it works out really well, and all of the food is always talked about the next day. What a find! This place is awesome and family owned. Frank was the best server and salesman I've come across. We all talked about trying to hire him away from the family business. He's that good. Now the food...where to begin? Well I'll start by saying we all agreed to come back every time we travel here. The lamb shank and pretzel were excellent starters. The medium sized mug is roughly the size of a football. I got the sampler and highly recommend that to anyone. The Rueben soup was unique and tasty. The food was delicious. My husband enjoyed the sampler plate, our guest enjoyed the perch, and I enjoyed the Wiener schnitzel (glad to say it is made with pork, not veal.) Went for New Years for the first time and was really having a good time until the bartender walked up took my drink and poured it out. I immediately asked her like why you pour my drink out she denied it and then immediately told someone whom I assumed was the bar manager immediately got us get out. I was confounded when I came here, but I quite enjoyed myself! The last time I was here, it was still the original Old Bavarian. This most recent trip to A-Town though, had a friend declaring that she wanted to DAAAANCE. I assumed we'd be going to The Bar or Anduzzi's or *shudder* Park Central (does that still exist?). Then she announced "Let's go to Brau Haus!" The name suggests a cozy pub where you drink copious amounts of craft beer. Not a dance club. And apparently, by day, Brau Haus *is* in fact a gastro-pub. But by night, my friends...it's where you go to cut a rug! The first DJ of the night was great, played some good songs. A second one took over at some point and seemed obsessed with rap/hip-hop "ballads" and Miley Cyrus. The beer from Old Bavarian is what's on tap. And on this night it was $5 All-You-Can-Drink rails, tap beer and Miller from 10pm-2am. WHAT!?!? That's NUTZ. ($5 for ladies, $10 for gents....rails costing about $4 a piece...you can certainly get your money's worth!) There is also a "bar game" called Hammer Schlagen there. The object of which is to hammer a nail into a stump with the claw end of a hammer. Perhaps a fun pub game....but it seemed like a wildly stupid idea to have a game involving nails and a real hammer, that is not connected to anything, that one needs to swing around, at a bar with a $5 All-You-Can-Drink special.... read more

Have loved this place through all of it's moves and changes in location. We're very happy that they have decided to move back to downtown Appleton. We were looking for a different place for Friday fish fry and remembered that we had not yet gone to OB's at the College Ave location. Staff was welcoming and accommodating - while we had a reservation for 6:30 (not really needed though because the crowd was light this evening) we decided to sit at the bar for starters. The bartender was very friendly and let my hubby sample their s microbrews to figure out which one he wanted before settling on the delicious OB lager. We ordered from the bar and then were seating when our food was ready. Although I had really wanted fish fry, I was lured by the interesting German selections and chose the Wild Boar Hocks - YUMMMMMMY. Hubby got the perch which was sweet and flavorful. Spaetzle and gravy also tasty and my potato croquettes were the perfect compliment. We will definitely be going back again. read more

This restaurant surprise me. From the outside I had no idea of the experience my party and I were about to have. The waitress and bartender were very welcoming they even let a sample some of the food that we weren't sure about. They laughed with us and they served us with smiles on faces. The food was amazing! Our first impression on our first visit to this restaurant was very positive. The decor is very attractive and appealing. The menu was broad and interesting. We enjoy a variety of ethnic dining and decided that we have discovered a great addition to our local list. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our respective entree choices: the pork shank and beef rouladen. Both were excellent and the portions were generous. A little pricey for Appleton, but considering that our take home boxes provided a whole second meal, it was just fine. BTW, service was very good. I went here on a Groupon. It took 3 tries because they were closed each time (an afternoon and a Monday were the first attempts). I ended up getting the large portion of perch fish fry (around $25). It was decent and breaded. The gf got some beef dish with gravy and red cabbage (cabbage was actually pretty good). Overall we liked it and would probably go back again. If you like German food and you are in Appleton or surroundings, this is the pace to go. I am German and travel all Over the US and World and I was very impressed about this restaurant. It is very authentic and the food and beer is excellent. I ll give them a 10 out of 10. Frank is owner and his mom are very nice people and accommodating. Didn't eat here, only visited the bar. We were astonished at the $11 per drink price tag considering they were not specialty drinks. Our servers response.." That's downtown Appleton prices". Young lady, I lived near downtown Appleton for almost a decade until 2 years ago and return often for the downtown fine dining. I have also had the opportunity to eat and drink in downtown Memphis, New Orleans, Chicago, and Milwaukee in the past 8 months and nowhere was I charged $11 for rail whiskey and club. If the price was not insulting enough her quick assumption that I'm some out of town, out of touch yokel will keep me away. The perch is light and flavorful. The beer-battered haddock is so tasty. The broiled haddock is peerless. I am a tartar sauce aficionado and OB Brau Haus has the best. If you try the Wild Pork Shanks in mushroom-peppercorn sauce, you may want them every week, they are just that good. For dessert, the homemade bread pudding (served with dark rum sauce and chocolate sauce) is so wonderful and comforting, each bite might make you weep with joy. Don't miss this restaurant. Food was excellent, portions were larger than normal, cost was $$, the wait staff was attentive and friendly. While I can't say that in general I'm a big fan of German food, I can't wait to go back for their German food. Went last night for New Year's Eve while visiting the city and was so disappointed! The nightclub was so bland and the manager is so rude! The only thing that made staying for a bit worth it was my bartender! I think she said her name was Autumn! Super friendly girl and very efficient at her job! Sadly, I don't think I'll be coming back to this nightclub though due to the lack of professionalism from the manager and the bland atmosphere. And the prices! My wife was given a couple of coupons, for her birthday, to try this place. It allowed us to share a flight of beer with our dinner as well as another pint of beer each. I loved the food! Very good, traditional German fare. Nothing fancy or flashy, but very good, solid food. Service was good. Server was nice, but just seemed to be lacking a little bit. Hard to pin down exactly what it was, but it just seemed off slightly. No big deal though as she was nice, and efficent. The manager (owner?) stopped by our table and was very nice and very friendly. The only thing I didn't care for was the dining room which I think doubles as a night club later on weekend nights. Not very inviting and the huge speakers on 1 side of the room kind of kills any kind of good vibe. Beers were well made, if not a bit hoppy for my palate. Can't blame them though as that seems to be the trend with American beers, when when being crafted in traditional styles. Overall, definitely a place to check out! read more
