A girls brunch brought me to Chester V's for some chit chat, yummy food and a good bloody mary. This one is some doctored up Zing Zang Mix topped with a pickle, olive, lemon and lime. Let me tell you the pickle was delicious! The bloody itself had just a little spice and was worchestershire forward. Definitely recommend giving it a good stir. But other than that, yum! I stopped by here for lunch the other day while I was in town per recommendation of some locals. VERY SATISFYING. The only thing I regret was not ordering a Spotted Cow while I was here since I don't live within the state of Wisconsin. Guess I'll have to pay another visit soon. :) I had their Gastro Burger which was huge. The half pound beef patty was super high quality and topped with Montamore cheese and another quarter pound of pork and duck bacon. HELLO WISCONSIN. The bun wasn't a standard sort of hamburger bun but more of like a ciabatta hybrid bun, where it held the burger together well but wasn't tough to eat. Overall a very juicy and meaty burger! Gotta compliment on that Montamore cheese... never had it before but it was very unique and delicious in the burger! They have these awesome high top tables in the bar area where you can pour your own beer so be sure to grab a seat at one of these tables. Each of these tables has four different taps AAAND did I mention it's only $0.25 per ounce? $4 beers?! WTH, so cheap. Our server was great and I think the manager even checked up on us while we where there. Only docked a star because the pint glasses they had brought out to us had a bit of water in them and weren't dried properly, and also the beers from the self pour at our table would sometimes pour out super foamy (this could be user error, but I think everyone at our table had at least one beer poured out that came out more foamy than desired). Took my folks here as my parent was in the mood for a burger and a friend suggested stopping here. It was early on a Saturday afternoon, so there wasn't a whole lot of people. We were seated right away and very prompt service. My luck that they serve brunch from 9am-2pm on Saturday and Sundays and the pulled pork benedict was calling my name! The eggs were perfectly cooked, the pork was tender, and boy I love hollandaise sauce! I also took the option of cheesy hashbrowns as my server recommended it. That hit the spot! I was full from the benedict that I couldn't finish the hash browns or toast! My Dad was very happy with with mushroom swiss burger said it hit the spot! My Mom, also craving brunch, got french toast. The presentation of the toast was magnificent, and the server put the berries on the french toast. She said the cooks usually put it on the side. Tip, ask for the berries on the french toast...way better! Good selection and prices not that different than ordering a la carte. Food - selection was decent and presentation was nice. Overall atmosphere and service were Good. Friendly staff. Why this didn't get 5 stars - Called a few days earlier asking for a reservation and was told they don't take them. When we arrived it turns out they do. Why doesn't everyone who works there know this? Rare steak was at least med rare and the special jalapeño popper burger was still listed on the big sign board even though they were out of jalapeño poppers. Cross it off! Regular jalapeños are not the same thing. Will come back and try dinner. It's a nice, cozy place. Seating could be more comfortable on the high boys. read more

What a great find! Amazing food, awesome atmosphere, friendly staff! The meatloaf my husband had was to die for; he said it was the best of his life. The gravy on it was so delicious, never had gravy that dark, very unique. The menu selections were very unique and all seemed like they will be so delicious, we are definitely going back. BBQ wings were great too; cooked perfectly. Bartender was so friendly and sweet. We loved that they have tables by the bar with their own taps on them, we'll go back to try that too. So cold inside that we nearly walked out after 10 seconds but it was about to rain so we decided to stay. Became used to the temperature after 10-15 minutes but it did sour the experience. Unique atmosphere with a mix of modern furnishings and old-world pub style. Very nice except our table which had a sizable vertical gap between the planks in the top nearly causing my wife to spill her drink as you couldn't slide anything on it. Very nice menu selection that I had a difficult time deciding. Not a large selection but plenty to choose from and most were unique to the restaurant. Healthy selection of both tap and bottled beers and ciders. You will find something to your liking. Food delivery was timely and the food was prepared well but it was not outstanding. I ordered the Honey Bourbon Burger and was expecting more honey bourbon. Delicious gluten-free buns. Prices were average and portion size was average to slightly generous. Service was friendly and pleasant but we realized after being seated that it was happy-hour at the bar and this was not mentioned to us. The place didn't bowl me over but I will most likely give it another try at some point. read more

Over the past year Chester V'v has become one of our favorite spots in Oshkosh. Consistent food, cocktails, service, and environment. Throughly enjoyable. We do happy hours, Sunday bloody bar with Benedict brunch, late lunch, and early dinners. Even if it wasn't in our neighborhood we would still frequent this establishment. There has been some ups and downs with staff and food quality at times, but I'm happy to state that it's bounced back and we still think it's great. Enjoy, tip accordingly & pass the word. read more

Went for the first time and won't be back. Most importantly-when we received the bill many of the prices were different than posted on the menu, up to $3 variance on multiple items. Bartenders spent their time chatting and ignoring customers-I understand there's a casual sense at a bar but loud gossip with colorful language conducted by the staff while our drinks were empty was distracting and frustrating. Fried chicken and waffles was entirely and and had too much breading. Bread on the chicken asparagus salad was stale and inedible in parts. The sandwich also had lettuce and tomato which I would have preferred not, and not the end of the world, but those items were not on the menu description and could be hazardous to people with allergies. We went for brunch on a sat. I ordered the corned beef hash. I got two slices of corned beef, deep fried American potatoes, and two eggs in a bowl. All separate on a plate. Chester V's is always such a meh experience. We have gone for breakfast three times and have mediocre service and food. I had eggs last time and got SO sick, the sweet cornbread was a sugary sticky dry mess. We do love the beers on tap at your table, and the bottomless mimosas! They also have a really great Bloody Mary bar but I prefer the build your own bloody at Barley and Hops 100% to this. I would not recommend the food to anyone but they have a great beer selection. I think you really need to be a regular to get good service here, the customers that the servers and bartenders seemed to know got the most attention and time spent with them. I will probably not go back since the food is not worth eating out for. Overall, a ok experience and a better bottomless mimosa :) read more

Underwhelming. Service is surely spotty, waitresses acted as they had a million other places to be besides doing their jobs (a.k.a bad attitudes). Ordered cheese curds and I don't know what they were but they were not Wisconsin cheese curds, likely frozen knock offs. It's Wisconsin for Pete's sake, at least get the staples right. Menu left a lot to be desired, mostly filled with elementary meals that anyone could make at home. Half their menu is different burger variations. Moreover, every sandwich/burger came with Potato Chips, but French Fries were extra. Even McDonalds gives you French Fries with your burger/sandwich. We left after eating half of our "Cheese Curds" or whatever they were. Will not be coming back again. Only gave two stars instead of one because their Old Fashioned was decent. If they tried to open this restaurant in a bigger market like Chicago/Milwaukee, it would have been run out of business in a matter of months, if that. Would not recommended, many places in Oshkosh/Fox Cities than this place. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere! P.S. The taps at your seats are not impressive, again, go to a bigger market they have those everywhere. I have been here twice. The first time I came with two friends for lunch. I received my burger approximately 10 minutes before my friends. To me this is inexcusable and awkward. They definitely have some kinks to work out on that end. The cheese curds are incredible and the burger was good, albeit slightly pinker than I had requested. The second time (January 30th) I went with my wife for drinks and an appetizer before heading over to the Roxy for dinner. We arrived at 3:45 and were seated at one of the tables with the built-in beer taps. The employee (who I thought was our waitress) asked us if we wanted them turned on, and we said yes. Within a few moments they were on and we had some glassware in front of us. Fast forward to 4:05 and we were still sitting there like morons with menus in front of us. Finally, I asked a waitress (not the one who turned our taps on) while she was walking by if she was our waitress. She replied, "I can be." I wondered what exactly that meant. I also wondered how long we would have sat there without service if I didn't say anything. Do they not have assigned tables, or was she just a poor server? Anyway, we got our cheese curds and they were awesome. She asked how they were one time, and then never came back. We were clearly done because we were no longer filling our glasses up and there were no cheese curds remaining. So we sat, and we waited. Finally I put my debit card on the table hoping this would attract some attention. It did eventually. Our waitress asked if we would like our check, which I confirmed. Just shy of 10 minutes later she returned with our check. I honestly don't know what the deal was with the time lapses between certain tasks being completed. It wasn't dead, but certainly not busy enough to warrant poor service. I tipped a paltry 10%, which is less than half of what I normally tip. It is a cool place, but the service leaves something to be desired right now. Being on the newer side could be an explanation for this. However, I don't think it is worth returning right now, even if their cheese curds are amazing! read more

We waited 30 minutes for someone to notice us - had to get up and ask someone for service (bad!). After that it took another 10 minutes to get a beverage and we were asked to get our own items to add to our bloody mary. Never got a beer chaser with it either so I had to get up again to get them. I have been a waitress for years so I am use to it but I shouldn't have to wait on my own table when I am a paying customer. Food was cold when it arrived and average at best. Wouldn't order it again and more than likely won't be going back. Red Robin has better food and service. They have to get their *&^% together. After the 3rd request they did, but by then we were almost done with our meal. Our waitresses explanation was that she thought they were having issues with the TV and only certain people could change the channel. Our waitress had no personality and is in the wrong line of work. A female bartender starting banging items around and dropping things multiple times. We definitely felt like we weren't wanted there. We spent over $100 on food and drinks. The Good: Their sidewinder fries are excellent. The Bad: I ordered the Chicken and Waffles this time and for twelve bucks I got the aforementioned fries ($2 upcharge), a single waffle divided in fourths, three medium sized chicken tenders (probably one breast total) lightly breaded, and aside from the fries none of it was particularly flavorful. The waffles were very basic, no spices or anything. The chicken was the same way, the light breading was a good texture but was still devoid of any spices. This stuff isn't hard to figure out, put some salt and pepper in the breading, some cinnamon or whatever in the waffle mix. The Ugly (and this is where I start a list): -The chicken also came accompanied with burnt onion ring pieces apparently left over from the previous frying session, yuck. -The order of CHICKEN AND WAFFLES did not come with BUTTER, nor was any offered (it was also presented over a thin layer of greens, since I guess it needed a garnish???). -We were seated immediately at noon on a snowy Sunday when the restaurant was approx. 2/3rds empty. It took 45 MINUTES for anyone to come over and take our order. During that time, the two or three servers present were mostly just standing around. I understand some of the serving staff are off season construction workers. That's great but even if they're not exactly trained, they must have gone to a restaurant at some point in their lives, right? They should know that a 45 min wait in a half empty restaurant is completely ridiculous. In closing: I really, *really* want to like this place but it's just not working out. Our first experience had the same great fries but mediocre burgers with super grisly beef, and this time did nothing to help my bad first impression. I have a buddy that loves this place and I generally respect his taste when it comes to food, but I can't for the life of me figure out why this place shines so brightly to him. Both meals have been overpriced, mediocre, and with lousy service. I can get good fries at other places, along with good food I don't have to wait nearly an hour to order. read more

I just had lunch at this place on a business trip with coworkers. I ordered the po-boy sandwich wrap. I ate several bites before looking inside the wrap and noticing a fly buried inside the middle of the sandwhich. Naturally, I freaked out! I brought it to the attention of the waitress who saw the fly and stated that "obviously, we will not charge you for that". Obviously!!!
