I was happy to finally stop in here. It's a great place to get a delicious Banh mi sandwich. There are several options. I went for the pork Banh mi. It tasted great. The outside of the baguette was perfectly crispy while the inside was soft, fresh and filled with well-seasoned pork, mayo and veggies. It was very reasonably priced at $6.29 (all taxes in). I was also tempted by the meatball or lemongrass chicken options, but I'll save those for another time. You can also purchase frozen minced pork patties or meatballs to go. And, of course, there's Vietnamese coffee. If you get a coffee with Banh mi, it's $1 off the sandwich. I recommend stopping here if you want a good Banh mi sandwich. read more

We placed a DoorDash order online for delivery and ordered the Sate beef banhmi, lemongrass chicken banhmi and the nem fries. Pricing for banhmi was in line with what other similar banhmi places are charging. Most bamhmi are around $5.50. Both banhmi had fresh bread and a good sized portion of meat and fillings. The Nem fries which is basically Vietnamese ham wrapped in wonton wrappers and fried were crispy and tasted good with the mayo sauce that they provided with our order. This banh mi place might have to be the best banh mi place in Vancouver as of right now. I've eaten from here so so so many times but now I've decided to write a review. I've tried many of their banh mi's from their lemongrass chicken, to their vegetarian, and even their ice coffee and avocado shakes. However, the best thing on their menu has to be their Deluxe pork banh mi. Whenever I go, I always get extras for the rest of the week since my partner and I love banh mi! The deluxe pork one has alot of cold cuts plus the pork belly, pate, and has a really good mayo sauce. The portion, quality and price here is amazing and I am always so full even after eating only half. I've been reccomending Obanhmi to my friends and they love it as well. Best banh mi restaurant in East Van! So far tried the lemon grass chicken, sate beef, deluxe, classic cold cut and meatball - all are very delicious! Lemon grass chicken has really great lemongrass flavors and super soft chicken. My personal favorite is the deluxe, the house mayo used goes really well with he sandwich. Coffee is good just a tad sweet but good amount served with the cup. The nem fries are interesting, basically the nem patty in spring roll wrapper. read more

Pretty good. I had the deluxe dac biet, didn't really notice the addition of pork belly. It did have a good amount of cold cuts but nothing outstanding. Veggies are cut fairly thick which gives a good crunch, though could have been more pickled. Good amount of mayo. The bread was toasted but very very soft inside wonderbread-ish? The neighborhood has so many joints with house baked bread I think this one fell a bit flat. I will come back to try other banh mi/sides, the nam fries sound great. Me and my boyfriend went passed it and went in to try this place. Interior: the interior is clean and looks modern Staff: They were just Normal service, not mean or rude or nice/welcoming. Food: the bread was hard and the food was ok. I had better Banh Mi and felt this place is overpriced for their quality. If it was cheaper I wouldn't mind getting it again but it's just a generic banh mi. Bland and didn't have much flavours to it. We had the meatball, the classic banh mi here. Ingredients weren't too fresh, pretty generic. Drink: their ice coffee was definitely my least favourite here, was too sweet and didn't taste like Vietnamese ice coffee. I understand it should be unique but it shouldn't be taking the whole Vietnamese ice coffee flavours away. Pricing: wouldn't come here due to the price. This is a great little place! We stopped by for lunch and walked in to a lot of warm greetings. The energy here is great. We had the iced milk coffees which were balanced perfectly. I had been looking for a good spring roll and theirs did not disappoint - delicious, crispy and not greasy. We tried the nem fries and dip and they were so good. It would be hard not to order them. Their salad and nem rolls have a good ratio of meat, vegetables and noodles, some rolls I've tried have a lot of noodles and not enough of the other ingredients. We had the lemongrass chicken banh mi, crusty and light bread (really good), and the chicken, pickled vegetables and umami made a fantastic sandwich. Sometimes the stars align and they send you to the perfect spot. My wife and I were celebrating our 6 month anniversary last night and on our third try we miraculously found this gem of a restaurant. Bar none this is my new favorite sandwich in town for a vegetarian sandwich. They make the traditional sandwich with a combination of tofu and some Vietnamese goodness and the sandwich is just made with love. Wifey and I felt it and it was such a good memory. Thank you! I got the beef satay banh mi. I wanted to try something a little different. Also it had a spicy symbol on top and I wanted something spicy. The ratio of meat to veggies were good and it was tasty. It is my personal preference but I prefer the bread less crunchy 'cause it did cut the roof of my mouth in some bites. I also got their signature viet coffee (includes ice cream according to the lady and coconut flakes from my observation). For an extra 50 cents, I think it's worth a try but after trying it, I personally prefer the regular viet coffee. read more

EDIT: Obanhmi has upped their prices by 17%. Chicken is 6.75. It's previous price was just right in terms of bang-for-buck value. This banh mi is good but isn't worth 6.75. I'd rather eat elsewhere for this price. The only thing that kept me ordering was the value, otherwise as other reviewers have mentioned, it is a bit underwhelming. I looked past it because the price was fair. This is a 5.75, maybe 6 dollar banh mi; in no way is it worth 6.75 Definitely recommend the lemon grass chicken. Great proportions at such a good price. 5.75 is perfect, any more and I would probably eat elsewhere. Tastes good for the price. Cold cut is decent too, no complaints very good. Beef is great too. The first thing that caught my eye was how instead of flat out listing the sandwiches that they offer, they also offer combos where you can get a sandwich, drink, and a side for 10.00. My dining companion and I each ordered a sandwich, where I got the Meatball sub and she got the Lemongrass chicken, both came with Nem Fries. The bread itself is warm and crunchy but not as hard as the bread at say Banh Mi Saigon Limited. The filling consists of a decent amount of Cilantro, preserved daikon, and carrots. The chicken was very warm and juicy upon arrival and the meatball sub was densely packed and tangy. The Nem Fries were definitely interesting though. They're essentially wonton wrappers that have been wrapped tightly around pork and thrown into the deep fryer. The result is like a super skinny but very crispy spring roll. The bread isn't great, which for me makes all the difference, but the fillings were generously portioned, and overall my pork banh mi was good both times. The chicken banh mi I had on my second visit was too fatty and chewy. It's an above-average banh mi overall, but at this price point I'd expect better and freshly baked bread. The combo specials don't compare in quantity or quality to neighboring lunch spots. Since I am close in the neighborhood I'll still stop by occasionally when I want something fast on the go, but it won't be the regular spot I had hoped for. I was so insanely happy to find my favorite Bahn Mi sandwich so close to my office. I got the cold cut with lean pork and the meat to bread ratio was perfect. The sandwich was big too! I love the food I've had here. Nem rolls, and several of the banh mi - chicken, beef, pork sausage. The peanut sauce with the nem rolls tastes amazing to me. I also loved the salad rolls and was very disappointed with the recent menu change that dropped them. They were the only things my wife could eat here.
