We visited for an early lunch this past Monday and ordered two house specials for $9.00 each, two pork puffs for $6, a coke and a fruit buble drink for a total of under $30. Their sandwiches were exactly as we remembered; meaty, crunchy, tart/ savory with a touch of floral from the cilantro inside a crispy tender baguette! We love how they bake their own bread too! What I noticed was that they altered their bread recipe by adding rice flour & reducing their wheat flour ratio. This helps the bread taste less dense, adds crispness and a lighter crumb. A great improvement to tge sandwich. The pork puffs are so savory and porky flavored, the puff oastry although laminated using lard is so flaky, crispy and light in your mouth. I'm always sorry to finish the last bite. These snacks sell out early so make sure you buy them before noon or you'll miss out. These sandwiches kept us going all day until after 6pm! Where else can you get a lunch for $9 to keep you satisfied all day? The family that operate this shop are very friendly and willing to answer questions about their food. They remember us when we visit. The interior is a small space with no dine in tables since the pandemic. They filled that space with a refrigerated cooler for drinks and such. They also offer prepared shrimp salad rolls to go too. The service was very efficient at the counter with the staff ready to upsell more of their delicious treats in case forget to ask for them. We came back here after our disappointment with our former favorite bahn mi sandwich place in Richmond. This will always be our go to place again. I was in the area and instead of finding a sit down place, I just wanted a lunch that was good value, quick, tasty and can bring something back to my kid who was at home. I did try a bahn mi here a long time ago and since living in Kelowna for the past decade I haven't found one that compares to to the ones in east van. Small shop but very clean, bright and one can see the counter with subs and fixings lined up with 4-5 young women assembling the sandwiches with the utmost efficiency . There was also steamed cha sui buns and special drinks but my focus was on a good sub. Ordered 4 special subs and got my number. My order was made up very fast and it was wrapped in parchment paper and loaded into a reusable "cloth" bag. High marks for ease of ordering and quick service. The special bahn mi - fac biet- it was huge and had a good amount of filling. there was the pate that I could taste, the meats and pickled carrots. Very tasty but needed more veggies! Had a sprig of cilantro , a couple pieces of cucumber and lengthwise slice of jalepeno. I wish they put in lots more cilantro and cucumbers as it was missing that satisfying herbaceous crunch. With all the banh mi places around, I still would wait for Bahn Mi Saigon if I had time. The prices are higher, but it's worth every penny. The bread is baked fresh daily and they pack the sandwich with ingredients. The Special (#1) has all the deli meats in it. This is my go to and never disappoints. The fish cake (I don't know what number because I only ask for it) is when I want something different and it's almost the hardest choice to make between the #1. The bread is on the denser side, while I prefer something lighter and airier. The pâté has a slightly iron-like flavour, so you can definitely taste the organ meat. That's not a bad thing, but it comes down to personal preference. The pickles are on the sweeter side, which I enjoyed. The pork belly is sliced thinly but still has a bit of chew. I went to Bahn Mi Saigon to get the usual subs and the pork buns. I wanted to use my debit card to pay but the owner wanted to use cash instead. I never carry cash. The owner claimed the debit machine is not working properly and that she claims she did not know how to use the debit card machine which is total bull crap. She also packed 6 pork buns when we only wanted 4. She even had the nerve to nickel and dime us for getting more items which we did not want. My wife gave cash and was not happy. I am not happy. This is a very legit sandwich spot. They make the bread just the way I enjoyed in Vietnam. I love the longer, thinner veneered crust. It cracks as you bite it. They layer in so many ingredients for the special #1, it's a party in my mouth. There are 3 or 4 meats with veggies and thin slivers of jalapeno. The place is a well oiled machine as all the staff have job and they go about as quickly as they can. As I sat and ate my sandwich in the car I saw over a dozen people go in and out. If you haven't had this yet, PLEASE DO! You'll usually see a huge line up outside of the store - simply because the store is very small. Small but mighty! This is worth the wait. The banh mi is about $13-16 but it is big and will fill you. The bread is fresh and crunchy and they really balance out their meats and veggies so you're not getting too much of one or the other. I finally got to try this banh mi shop and let me tell you, I was 100,% blown away! Perfectly fresh bread, amazingly delicious ingredients, the perfect ratio of veggie to protein, and all done in laser focused efficiency. Honestly I used to love this place, recently they have been shady and HARD selling on their side plates unethically. I went in for 4 banh mis and they asked if i wanted spring rolls. Here's what happened to me: I ordered 5 subs, 2 steamed buns, and 2 salad rolls. When I paid, the total came to $66.50, which felt high, so I later checked their menu prices on their website, when I got home. According to their posted prices, my order should have been: * Subs: 5 × $8 = $40.00 * Salad rolls: 2 × $4 = $8.00 * Steamed buns: 2 × $5 = $10.00, minus a $2 discount they gave me = $8.00 That adds up to $56.00 before tax. Victoria Drive has many Viet Resturants to get Banh Mis from, but Banh Mi Saigon might be the most well-known one as they sell out every day with lines of loyal customers.  Banh Mi Saigon offers many items, such as spring rolls, juices, their homemade drinks, and occasionally buns. They bake their baguttes themselves every day to make sure you get the freshest ones. They have many choices of toppings; my girlfriend's favorite was lemon grass pork, she wishes they had lemon grass chicken instead, as that's the standard one. Mine is always the special. I love to taste different flavors of meat, as every restaurant's specials are unique. One thing I'd mention is that I dislike how hard the baguettes are. It is common for Banh Mis to have hard baguettes; I just prefer ones that wouldn't break the roof of my mouth while making a mess eating them.  This Banh Mi shop used to be beloved by many; some would even drive from other cities to buy tens of them for their friends and family. I always see lineup at this banh mi shop. Finally I can come here without lineup. It's around 4pm on Saturday. The order was one special banh mi and one shredded pork one. Both tasted excellent! The ingredients were fresh especially the buns were freshly baked. The shop was very efficient. They took the order and asked you to wait outside, so next customers could go in and order theirs and there wouldn't be any congestions inside the shop. They put a speaker outside the shop and called the orders, so customers could go in and pick up their banh mi. It's a very good and efficient way to do business. Their service was fast as well. I picked up two banh mi for my flight. The lady at the cashier was pushing me to buy a drink even though I declined twice. They weren't able to cut my banh mi in half when I asked, they said they don't do that (would be easier to eat on a plane). The biggest problem was their packaging. They don't have paper bags, so both my sandwich were wrapped in an elastic band, and then placed in a SUPER thin plastic bag. I asked for another bag so I can eat it a bit easier on a plane (vs two sandwiches in one). They reluctantly gave me a small bag (which doesn't even fit one sandwich). As I walked out, the original big bag ripped from the bottom bc of the bread. I went back in and showed them the ripped bag. They were so rude and said we already gave you an extra bag. I re-emphasized their bag is super thin and ripped. They still said no. Now I am walking through an airport with my sandwich poking out of their cheap, thin plastic bag. I don't feel safe or feel very sanitary with their beyond cheap packaging, especially during COVID. read more

Great bang for your buck! You can walk away with a pretty decently sized banh mi for just 5 bucks here! My friend and I came recently on a weekday around 4:45 and there was no line. There was plenty of free parking on the side streets, so parking wasn't an issue at all either. I'm glad it wasn't crowded as it gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu. Otherwise I would've felt rushed ordering, as I didn't know what anything was. I ended up asking one of the ladies which option was their most popular. She pointed out #1 dac biet, with ham, headcheese, meat ball, meat loaf, pate, mayo, soy sauce, and vegetables. I could not wrap my mind around the fact that it was only $5!! What a steal. Those ladies are super efficient. We got our subs within a minute or two of ordering and paying. We were in and out of there in no time. I'm no banh mi expert (in fact, this was only my 3rd ever), but I enjoyed this one. There was a good amount of filling inside, the various meats were tasty, and the bread was quite crunchy. I have encountered their rudeness several times when they talked to me, called me to come get the baguettes with a tone just like calling a child even though I am a senior. I have tried the special and lemongrass pork Banh mi. I much prefer the special. I find the lemongrass pork to be too salty for me. I like the sauciness though. Beware the single strip of jalapeño in the sub. It is spicy. My friend recommended the tamarind juice and I ordered that. It was nice and refreshing. Life changing banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) shop at Victoria and 38. Parking is free in front but gets full. Try the side streets. This place is popular. The line up went around the corner, and people were walking out with bags of subs. Because of the coronavirus, there is now a mandatory mask rule. The lineup system is a bit confusing until I asked someone. There are 2 lines (#1 and #2). Look for the signs. Line 1 is for placing the order, and wraps around the corner. Go inside and place the order, then go back outside and wait in Line 2, which is on the R side of the entrance. Staff are friendly and quick. That kitchen sandwich making staff can really hustle. I had their #1 Dac biet (special sub). This place is authentic. Tastes just like the ones I had back in Vietnam. Nice big pieces of jalapeno and Vietnamese cold cuts. Bread is nice and dry and crunchy. We have a winner. This place also sells traditional Vietnamese drinks and coffees. They smelled really good. Will try next time. Other than Ba Le, I don't know another banh mi place with such tasty subs. In fact, this place beats out 80% of the places along Kingsway, most of which are simply mediocre. Definitely will be back.
