Veal Saltimboca is served deconstructed. That's different. Dish is served without cheese which is a key component. Procuitto pieces were dry, so the special flavor of the meat was lost in this preparation style. Veal was tough too. Lots of sliced fresh mushrooms and sauce. I remember it back in the day when it was layered perfect. Response to the tough veal was " I know they pound it really well". "Maybe they bought it from a different company". Oh well read more

Always pleased with Oaks Inn. Food, service and drinks are above average. Service is efficient and friedly. Call ahead for the lasagna. Every time we go they are sold out. Personally I like their previous decor. 1950s Italian kitchen, but they updated and it looks nice. Everything remains the same. Do not pass an opportunity to visit this restaurant. read more

You almost don't notice the entrance to this 2nd-floor Italian restaurant (very near a fire hydrant that is painted in the colors of the Italian flag), but make sure you find that red door, because the food here is so good... I get picky when it comes to Italian food, as there is so much of it in the Greater Binghamton area, and it all starts to taste the same; however, I loved all of our dishes here! When you get used to Italian-sized portions, it's easy to pick a couple of plates that quickly become favorites. I was able to get the half-size portions, which allows for more tasting. This is a must visit mainstay restaurant in the Triple Cities area. You need reservations and they are closed Monday and Tuesday. The Utica greens appetizer is great and they do a great job with veal and chicken. Be sure to substitute home made pasta and you will not be disappointed. Deserts are great too. My sister loves the Bracciole here and because it was her wedding anniversary as she stayed to our server (no congrats or anything just took our drink orders) , my brother in law took us there for a celebratory dinner. Then, the server comes back to say they were out of half the menu, no Scampis, no clams (oreganatta, entree with pasta, nor casino, no Trout, no sauteed chicken livers (house special), I forget what else they didnt have at that point, it's a small menu to begin with...I order the Chicken Francese, which comes put as 5 plainly 'floured', fried chicken "fingers" with 5 wedges of lemon from the fridge on the side of the plate..I asked where the Francese sauce was and was told it came plain like that, as did my nephews Veal Francese...my bro in law ordered Chicken Parm which came with a very salty house red (brown) sauce as did my nephews g/f's Lasagna, which was inedible.....slow service , bad food, my hot tea came in a small ceramic teapot that could use some time in the microwave since it was not hot......my sister enjoyed her Bracciole, thank goodness since the best thing about the entire dinner was the plain bread they served..(not hot either)....stay away !!!! read more

While nostalgia holds a huge spot in the hearts of Italian restaurant lovers, there is a gigantic difference between that and complacency. I feel that Oak's hasn't progressed in decades. The dishes are all the same with interchangeable meats and oil... Exxon Valdez amounts. It's like they stopped caring and just make robotic recipes. The server that we had was a bit overwhelmed in her own head, despite a pretty empty dining room (it was a later reservation). Thank the maker that I brought my own Parmigiano-Reggiano and grater because their ratty Parmesan processed garbage was truly awful. Ohhh, the mushrooms.... on every dish (nearly). I have never seen mushrooms in such abundance on a menu, which to me means that they're absolutely using canned mushrooms. They claim authenticity and charge accordingly (no splitting tabs either,welcome to the new millennium), yet don't come through. It's been years since I went and nothing has changed... and not in a good way. I won't return until some drastic changes are made. Sorry, but you guys need to get it together, all over your loyal guests are aging out and/or dying off. How much longer can you maintain relevancy??? read more

upon entering the restaurant felt like we had stepped back in time along with atmosphere of pine walls and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. The friendly wait staff seated us and promptly offered us menus and drink selections. I tried the Clams oregenato which I haven't seen on a menu in quite a number of years , it was as good as ever. We all had a different dish from the menu which everyone enjoyed along with the homemade pasta. We all finished off our delicious meal with a fresh cannoli drizzled with chocolate. I am originally from NYC, so getting Italian food outside what I'm used too is a challenge. BUT NOT HERE!!! It has that authentic atmosphere, as though the 'rat pack' should be hanging at the bar!! Best restaurant in town. Lemon chicken with a side of penne vodka. Doesn't get any better. Bread with their dipping oil is unreal.

Oaks Inn is better than Consols Family Kitchen down the road and a dozen other local Italian places. Seafood type pasta dishes are as good as chicken and beef items. I've never tasted the Lasagna because it's always out when I get there. Need to make reservations most nights, always busy. Don't like paying 4.00 for a glass of coke. It's like a penalty that my wife and I don't drink alcohol. We get the appetizer and two entrees and dessert(canoli and pies are excellent) Why do I need to pay 8.00 for four ice filled cokes? What a cozy spot nestled in Endicott! The employees are absolutely fantastic! I wasn't a big fan of the calamari as I was expecting fried but still tasty just not what I expected. The filet wrapped in bacon was sensational and the potatoes delish! They have limited bar menu, no prosecco, no grand marnier, no St. Germain but I was told they ordered the liqueurs for the first time so will look forward to that on my next visit. Must be these others haven't had good italian before. Even some of the regulars do not order anything with red sauce. It's pasty and very bland. There are other better restaurants to go to in the triple cities area. Oaks Inn is definitely overrated. Try Tonys,Little Venice or Caccitorries. read more

I think the building is perhaps pre WWII. You climb a small set (maybe 10 steps) of stairs to get to the bar and dining room. When you enter you see it's a 1950's atmosphere. All real pine walls. It's comfortable, very casual. I like it. It's different from other restaurants. I think it opens at 5pm. We went on a Sunday evening. There were 11 of us and we couldn't get a reservation till 8pm. When we walked in, the place was packed, but our tables were ready. In our group were 3 boys aged 10 to 13. They liked their meals and said they'd like to go back and they're from Hartfort, CT. It's actually an Italian restaurant. You wouldn't know it from its name. Everything on the menu is homemade except for the manicotti. My wife had a sausage, peppers, and mushroom dinner. She said it was good except she was dissapointed that the mushrooms were canned. My meal was excellent. I was so torn on what to order I asked the waitress what she'd recommend. She said the chicken saltimbocca. I think she has been a waitress there for some time because she was very knowledgeable on all the selections. So I ordered it. It was excellent. I would go back just to have that again, however I'd try their other dishes first. They have a good selection of veal dishes. No one in our group was disappointed. They all liked it and said they'd come back. None of had been there before. The service was very good. They have 2 parking lots and there is also street parking. When I say it's good for kids, I don't mean young children. The prices are reasonable. read more

Are you old? Yes? Then you'll love this place. That is if you can make it up the stairs. They give the illusion of a fancy restaurant with the "maybe we can squeeze you in" reservation tactics. I called same day and was told the could squeeze us in at 5. We got there at 5 and left at 6 and there were 8-9 parties seated with tons of open tables. Even with the open seats they gave us a fine table across from the window air conditioner. It was loud and cold. We were informed that the bread had yet to arrive from the bakery ( Previous reviewer you were right it is store bought). We were informed that they were out of clams which killed some of my plans. They were also out of prime rib, strip steak, and get this RAVIOLI! The olive oil dip was either old or the olive oil not high quality. I saw the rave reviews for the saltimbocca so I got the veal saltimbocca for a guilty pleasure. It was salty alright. Save yourself the 4 bucks and get the chicken saltimbocca. The veal was unidentifiable . I upped my pasta side for one dollar to get the homemade spaghetti. Save the buck. My husband got lasagna and it was ok. We just moved here, but let me suggest cacciatore's or even buds place (if you don't want fancy) over Oaks. read more
