I went here with 2 friends at 7pm on a Friday. We got drinks which were good but then it took the waitress a while to take our food order. Once we put in our food order, it took over an hour to get our food. I got the vegan California burger, my friend got chicken tenders, and my other friend got a chicken pot pie. None of them was worth the wait. We ran out of water while waiting for our food and we had to make a point of flagging down one of the wait staff to get the water...I can't recommend this place. Amazing, wow! We were lucky enough to stop by the other day after my flight came in super late and was delayed. We originally were thinking of eating at another late-night spot in Georgetown but drove by, and it was pretty dead, so shot over here and were not disappointed. We stopped by here on a lark. The food was decent, but felt pricey for what it was. It came out to about $58 for the two of us, for burgers and fries each. The service could've been better. My partner ordered greens with his burger and they gave him fries. Let me start off by saying: yum! I got the Oak Bacon Burger. Cooked perfectly with a bit of pink, loved the additions of arugula instead of regular lettuce and the bacon was perfectly crispy. The fries were great. Just crispy enough that they're not floppy but not so crispy that there's no potato. I was seated in the bar. Doing so meant I had to go to the bar to order. Not my favorite, but the bartender (white bald guy, sorry I didn't get your name!) was super sweet. He even checked on me during my meal, which was an unexpected touch considering that it was pretty busy and you have to order at the bar. The vibe is very kitschy Americana. It's cute. This is a good happy hour spot for me since it's close to my work. The atmosphere here is relax and a nice vibe to relax. They have a large selection of gluten free and vegan food combined which is not always super common. I had their corn dogs (both vegan and gluten free) and it was pretty good! The meat itself was a little paste-y like texture when I continue to chew on it but the taste was spot on to real meat, but also not like a real hot dog. Im not too fond of real hotdogs since they're always too salty for my taste. The breading was great! Tasted delicious and nice sweet corn bread taste. I wish the corn dogs were just bigger! Stumbling upon Oak provided for an outdoor dining experience. Lots of people walking up and down the street to provide additional entertainment. Our meal began with Brussel spouts tossed in Balsamic. They were very tasty and cooked perfect for my liking (crispy on the outside and tender on the inside). From here to continue curbing the hangry, we ordered their special Rosemary Lemonade. It was light, refreshing and a perfect amount of tart to sweet. After two great menu options, our meal got a little bit wonky. I ordered the burger and my friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It took over 45 minutes for the meals to arrive. When we questioned as the table next to us was seated, served and paid before our meal arrived we were told the chef was on vacation and they were short staffed. Given everyone is short staffed these days, the excuse doesn't fly. This being said, the burger was cooked great and to my satisfaction medium rare. My friend however didn't care for the pulled pork sandwich. She wasn't a fan of the BBQ sauce. I didn't try it so I can't confirm. What we both loved was the incredible mound of green leaf lettuce with balsamic as the side for our burger/sandwich. This was the star of our meals. Unfortunately they didn't have any dessert. I have heard how wonderful they were so maybe one day I will go back and give a dessert a try. It's important to say a restaurant can have an off day. Our first time getting burgers from here for takeout. My partner went in to order and said the atmosphere was great and that they had a good selection of alcohol. We got home and the burgers were SO GOOD. That burger sauce? To die for. (Maybe literally, as my white euro tummy might not be thrilled with the spicy factor lol). We shared them and barely made a dent. Maybe charge less and offer fewer? Because it's absurd, and I like sprouts. The friend chicken was possibly the biggest let down in the history of fried chicken. It looked promising. Oak is an excellent restaurant. My own meal was not great. But everyone else in our party of five raved about it. So I feel it is important to offer a useful assessment and not indulge one's own opinion about what in the overall scheme of things is not a big deal (who was it who said in the long run we're all dead -- I'm trying to cultivate a more Zen attitude). I was there with my wife, my wife's friend, the friend's sister, and the sister's husband. We were in town during a terrible heat wave, which is not random but the result of climate change (it is crucial to emphasize this in every context since it poses an existential threat to all of us which renders opinions about dining options inconsequential at best). Three of us were running half marathons, and this was the evening between two races for me. We wanted a good hearty meal. We were not disappointed. We noticed immediately the range of choices. The social scientists who study "choice" advise that too much of it makes most people incapable of making a decision. Choice can be an illusion. But not in this case. The specific type of choice that should be lifted up for praise is the vegetarian and vegan options. Probably no other place known for hamburgers in this town offers such a range of non-meat alternatives, of high quality according to the two members of our group who partook in them.  The items such as salads which were not meat alternatives but conventional plant based dishes were competent and entree sized -- it is not a criticism to say a single person could not possibly finish one as an appetizer, but a recommendation for the table to order one. We had two. They were refreshing on an evening in a stretch which set records for high temperatures. All four diners praised their dishes, two with meat and two without. The fried pickle spears which we shared also were high quality. The French fries were superb, crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside, hot, salty, and not out of a bag. The disappointment was my chicken pot pie. It was edible. It was not a disaster. The problem, which one might guess was caused by how hot it was (meaning the kitchen must have been much worse), was that the crust was doughy. It had not been baked long enough. The filling was fine. The crust would have been well served with much longer in the oven.  That means that four out of five diners at the table would have given Oak the highest rating and I would have have liked to do so. Rounding up, that makes for five stars. It's important to be generous. That also takes into account friendly service by a waiter who consented to allow an apprentice tattoo artist put on his arm a combination of two old sailor's images, which looked like a set of stairs and goat legs (that was all the explanation we received, and it was intriguing). We had a very nice dinner at Oak last night, for a birthday celebration. We arrived early (4:45) so were easily able to get a table for 5 without any problem. But I suspect that around 6:00 that might become more of a challenge. The menu isn't huge - but "just right" - in that it has a very nice range of choices for both vegan and non-vegan alike, with gluten-free options all over the menu if that matters to you. I had the chicken pot pie with a side salad and a side of frites (French fries). The crust was perfect - crisp and savory/flavorful - quite tasty! The inside however was a bit of a disappointment. The bowl was just under half-full, and really dried out. I was expecting a more fluid filling like a chicken stew. It was very tasty, just really dry. First of all in full transparency I did not eat here. Not because I didn't try, but because after 20 minutes (Thursday evening) of looking for parking our reservation time had passed and we decided to go elsewhere. I have no intent to disparage this place because of the incredibly obsessive number of closed streets in the neighborhood so I rated it at 4 which is the current rating on Yelp. Just beware that if you don't live in the neighborhood you should take an Uber or plan to spend far more time than usual to find a place to park. Oak reminds me of a throw back old man bar with the exception of great food. Most days I'd start my review sharing how amazing my meal was , however I'm starting off with desert. "Bourbon Apple Crisp" are the 3 words you wanna know when entering this establishment! Apple Crisp is served in a Mason jar with a hot apple mix inside, but what makes it is the crispy sugary topping. As I'm typing I can feel the crunch between my teeth and gums and the sweetness all over my tongue. As for dinner well the Chicken Pot Pie is to die for Item on the menu. Flakey crust with loads of chicken inside, you know what I mean every fork stab has chicken attached to it. The creaminess of the filling compliments the chicken and the veggies planted inside. And yes it's very stuffing so try and save room for desert. Another item I've eaten is the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with 2 to 3 inches thick fried chicken stacked on a bun. A true meal and then some for those hungry. They use thigh meat so make sure a lover of dark meat or you'll be sorry. Everything is large and in charge so when your looking for a MEAL or you wanna share something you can't go wrong. The food is awesome so I hope you at least give this place a chance. Pleasantly by the great vegan brunch options here! I am not vegan but am exploring options to eat a bit more sustainably after seeing some eye-opening documentaries about the fishing and cattle industries. I had the vegan "chicken" and waffles- everyone at the table tried the lentil based chicken strips and agreed they taste just like chicken tenders and we would happily have them again. Whipped coffee was also really good (both in the spiked cloud 9 version and the regular version). It tasted truly like whipped up espresso, not whipped cream with espresso dusted on it.
