Completely unacceptable. She was also incredibly pushy, pressuring me into buying something and making the whole experience very uncomfortable. I've lived in Hayes Valley for six years and always stop by this store when I have some free time. The clothes are cute and trendy, but honestly, the quality just doesn't match the price. A lot of the stuff feels like it won't last more than a few wears. I've tried ordering online when they didn't have my size in store, and my packages have been lost multiple times--like, how does that keep happening? The return policy is also super frustrating--only 21 days--and good luck getting any real help from corporate. It feels like once they have your money, you're on your own ! I used to work retail, so I try to be understanding, but the in-store experience here is just not it. The staff can be really overbearing. A couple of the girls will hover the whole time you're shopping, asking if things fit and insisting everything looks amazing--even when it clearly doesn't. It makes it hard to shop comfortably. And then there's an older woman of the group (maybe the manager?) who's always giving off this weird, condescending vibe. She keeps moving the clothes to different areas of the store, which is so annoying when you're trying to make a decision !! Overall, I keep hoping the experience will get better because I do like some of the styles, but it's just consistently disappointing. I saw that Oak + Fort was having a sale this weekend so decided to stop by on Sunday around 5:30, 30 mins before closing. When we arrived we found that the doors were already locked with people still shopping inside. Apparently they were "already closed". After reading the other reviews regarding their poor customer service at this location, I'm not surprised. No idea why they would choose to close early on a weekend where there's a sale. The store clerk was clearly in such a rush to take their break that they forgot how to be polite to customers who thank them for their time. I came in here last month on a Sunday to shop for my birthday outfit and this employee -- a young gentleman with dyed white hair -- asked if I was "celebrating my 23rd birthday again"...wtf man?! I was literally 28 and this douche was making me feel 48. When we were checking out, he proceeded to ask us 3 times what we were up to that weekend. Dude! For the third time, we're getting dim sum later. Are you okay?? Do you need a doctor??! I live in the neighborhood and viscerally feel pissed every time I pass here. Then I'm calm because it's time for my jello and Matlock marathon because you know, I'M SO OLD OK but my stupid drama aside, here's my objective takeaway: Clothes are overall cute but pretty overpriced. The last thing I bought was a light colored long sweater with deeeeep pockets...for $95. I would recommend going to Azalea down the block for better shopping and customer service. read more

Every time I visit I find something I like here for a reasonable price. This is a mask-mandatory store when I visited today. When I went today there were good sales options as well and snagged a pair of jeans for only $20. It's definitely a larger selection for women with a single small rack for men. I was welcomed in and there were plenty of employees to help me and the other patrons. A fitting room was started for me in a timely manner and I was able to check out easily. I made an online purchase intentionally as it's so much easier than driving to the store and having to interact with anyone. I've made online purchases fine in the past, but this time I had to exchange sizes for a couple sweaters as they were too short for my long torso. This review is for potential online and in-person clients. If you suffer from social anxiety--TLDR; I kindly recommend not to visit this store nor order online, and not to read the rest of my review. If you purchase items online with any sort of discount, you cannot return them but you can exchange them in store. It would be a shame to just have the sweaters sit in my closet never worn, so I made the effort to go in store to look for a size up. I've worked in a few retail stores in the past, and I really understand this policy is no fault of the employees. I know this also affects the store's overall total earnings, which is unfortunate. The sweaters were quite bulky, and I did not want to squish them back into the package or a small tote bag. So, I brought my large L.L. Bean canvas tote bag to bring the sweaters in to exchange. Working in retail before, I know large bags are often signs of potential shoplifting. However, I was not going to chaotically carry two chunky knit sweaters from my parked car (paid for parking too) without a bag to the store. The cashier asked me to hold onto the sweaters while I browsed for items to exchange. He didn't want it to get mixed-up with their own products in store, which I understand, but also isn't the best client service. Another employee offered to look in their stock room for other sizes, and left through the store front door (maybe the stock room is not directly connected to their store?). When he came back, two other guys arrived in the store as well. Then, the cashier started talking with them about how he would aggressively and physically stop shoplifters. I didn't really think anything of it at the time, but in hindsight maybe I should have explained why I had a large tote bag? He did comment on the size of my bag when I was paying for my purchase, and also asked if he could keep my return slip with my information on there twice. I naively said sure, but now realize that he has my personal information. So, there were four men just standing around me while I was exchanging and paying for my purchase, and putting the items I bought in my tote bag that I conveniently brought. I honestly don't think all the items would have fit in a smaller reusable bag. Again, I didn't really think anything of it, except how strange the experience was. However, I walked straight to Urban Ritual nearby and noticed someone was following me. As an Asian American woman, I always carry my pepper spray around me just in case. I now realize it was probably someone associated with the store. I am still processing my visit here. I do empathize with retail workers and having to deal with major store loss from theft. It is quite traumatizing to experience theft. However, I was just trying to make an exchange from an online order, and the trauma was perpetuated onto me. read more

I love this boutique! Why it's a buy +'s: + Simple and minimal with attention to design. Think skirts with volume in navy or blush. Cocoon coats or loose trousers are the way to go right now. + Prices. What? I thought it was on sale but it's regular price. Coats may hit close to $400 but just about every separate can be bought for less than $150 on average. + Quality looks and feels good. + Staff is friendly and helpful. I have to agree with Kyla J. and another person who gave one star. I recently went to the shop in Hayes Valley and wow the staff certainly lacks personality especially the young man who was ringing me up. I had the feeling that I was bothering him because I kept shopping and he kept asking are you all set. Here's a suggestion if you find the client is still looking around and shopping put the pcs aside and simply say when you're done we can finish the transaction. I mean after being locked up for 5 months because of the stupid pandemic I wanted something fun to wear to meet with friends and not be discouraged. With that unfriendly mentality of both people in that store, you're doing a disservice to the product and the store and giving it a bad name. I won't go into the other hiccup it's not worth it. This store is everything I'm into right now. Basically, minimalism. Good fabrics, good shapes, good colors. Typically a lot of black, gray, white and taupe, with splashes of olive, oxblood and blush. I may or may not have bought the same slip dress in multiple colors. Shrug. read more

I bought a few things from here including dress here that was $20, but they charged me $30. I noticed this discrepancy when I got home and double checked the tag to make sure it was $20 and it was. I think they charged me $30 because it was a previous price as shown by a former tag before the $20. No biggie, I called the store to request a price adjustment to which they let me know they couldn't do price adjustments over the phone and I had to go into the store. So after work, I head over to the store to have the price adjusted for the error overcharge only to have the employee tell me in person they could not give me a price adjustment or even pay me the difference on the error THEY made. Instead they said they would give me the item for the $20 price, but I would have to select another item instead of being able to give me the $10 difference.... ridiculous. They could have at least told me this over the phone and saved me a trip.... This goes along their no refund policy, but this is an instance of a company not owning up to their mistake and making it right. This rating is for the staff. I often stop in this location on my way home to see if they have anything new as it's a couple blocks from my house. I stopped in deliberately one day looking for a new coat and when I checked out buying a $120 jacket the cashier said to me "oh yeah I see you in here all the time. You never buy anything." Not only is this inaccurate, but I found this and him to be incredibly offensive and rude. Whether I buy anything in there or not is none of his business and someone in customer service making a judgment on how or where I spend my money is the poorest of judgment at best. Another time I was in here I was holding a ring and my phone alarm started going off so I pulled it out of my pocket to turn off and the cashier ran over to me as if I was going to stash the ring. I watched many other people coming and going taking jewelry and her doing nothing. I don't know if she was just trying to help me but after the first encounter I'm skeptical of the intentions of the staff. What a lovely clothing and accessories shop! I stopped by Public Bikes nearby and decided to walk around the area. Walking around Hayes has been on my to-do list for some time now. Picking up my bike in the area was a great excuse. Although, I probably came at a somewhat bad time. It was Fourth of July, so not too many stores were open. Oak + Fort was one of them! Parking was a breeze since there was a lot less people out. Make sense given that most stores weren't open. The sales associate here was super helpful. Very welcoming and had excellent customer service. I've mention this before, I hate going into stores and not getting a simple hello or a smile. C'mon, it makes everyone's day better. What I learned: 1. Canadian brand. 2. They have an eCommerce store so check that out if you don't like physically going into stores to shop. 3. Simplistic pieces. 4. Beige, black, whites. 5. One star, I know it's harsh, but hear me out. I've come into this store countless times with a stack of money prepared to SPEND like my life depended on it because their stuff is cute, but 99.9% of the time I end you walking out with nothing. Style wise, Oak and Fort is really nailing it with that casual sophisticated thing they have going on, but the clothes are unbelievably low quality. The few things I've purchased here have disintegrated after only a few wears. I ended up returning a sweater that cost nearly a hundred dollars because after spending only a few days in my house, it literally started to look like it has been used and abused for years (and not in the cute, intentionally distressed way, but in the pilling, misshapen and barely holding on way). Basically we're talking Forever21 quality at Madewell prices. I mean, if I'm going to wear cheap fast fashion pieces that fall apart after a handful of wears, I might as well not pay a lot for it. This company has to seriously step it up, maybe switch sweatshops or better yet, manufacture their garments in North America. For now, I would not recommend buying their stuff. They have an exchange only policy, so even if something falls apart (which it certainly will) you're just going to be stuck with something else that will fall apart.
