We called Oscar last minute right before a big storm after being recommended by a family friend. He responded quickly and even noticed where the damage was before he came into the house when the previous roofer we called for the same leak never said anything. He also told us our roof was leaking because it was installed with 30 lbs underlayment but the pitch was too low and assured us he would take care of us. Since he couldn't fit us into his schedule before the storm, he covered our roof and his team came and fixed it after the storm. His team installed one layer of torch as underlayment in the area of the repair. With this material he said we would be guaranteed to have a dry roof for many years. I contacted ODR during the peak of the rain storms because we had a major skylight leak on a clay tile roof. I had technicians on my roof and working on the problem within hours. They were not able to complete the repair and placed a tarp to stop the leak. After the rain stopped, the project was completed quickly. My only complaint is the owner did not provide timely updates to me regarding when his employees would arrive to conduct the work. I needed to call him and then I was given an estimated arrival time. Really impressed with the timely service we received from Oscar and his team. We woke up on a Thursday to a leak in our kitchen while it was raining and while other companies were telling us they wouldn't be able to come until next week, Oscar and his team showed up that afternoon. They couldn't do a full repair because it was still threatening to rain, but managed to prevent any further leaking. From start to finish, Oscar and his crew did an exceptional job re-roofing our home with heavy cement shakes on a steep and complex roof! His first visit demonstrated that he has attention to detail, good listener, and proud of his work and team. He expertly and attentively explained options and attentively dealt with issues as they arose. Before we selected ODR Roofing, my wife and I had spent many months exploring roofing options -- composite, plastic, metal, or concrete -- along with gutter covers to keep out plant debris. (The roof was previously wood shingled, but wood is hazardous in our "high fire risk" urban-wildland area.) During our in-depth roofing investigation, Oscar patiently answered questions and graciously provided information during on-site visits, including making shake and gutter mockups. After our investigation, we settled on Boral's Madera 900 Mountainwood concrete shake and Amerimax solid gutter cover (that Oscar recommended). Given that Boral Madera concrete shakes are quite heavy (950 lbs/square), and our roof steeply pitched, multifaceted, and expansive (52 squares), we were surprised and disappointed that several other roofing firms were not even willing to take on the job. (It seems that many re-roofers prefer to stick with lighter but shorter-lasting and less appealing composite shingles). For those roofers that did bid on our job, Oscar's quote was the lowest. Oscar referred us to a structural engineer who determined that our roof could handle the increased weight without modifications. His crew installed the concrete shakes on 1"x2"x4' redwood battens, which mitigated the risk of slipping off the steep roof and also keeps the attic cooler on hot days. Oscar also installed a custom wooden shim under the lowest row of shakes to optimally align them with the gutter. At my request, Oscar also installed fire-resistant O'Hagin roof vents and replaced the standard mesh eave vents with fire-and-ember-stopping Vulcan vents. During the roofing process, Oscar visited frequently and kept us informed of issues as they came up, such as dry root on the plywood side paneling and corroded seals around the sky lights (he replaced the skylights). He texted and emailed on his crew's schedule. They were willing to go the extra mile to do the job right. When we asked that the gutter covers be painted to match the gutters, and to paint nail heads to match corner tiles, they happily did so. At our request, Oscar also enthusiastically did other side projects, unrelated to the roof, such as repairing water-damaged post skirts. He and his crew cleaned up the debris daily (to the degree practicable). The entire re-roof job took about a month, weekends included, conforming to his original estimate. All-in-all, Oscar and his crew strived for the best quality, listened well to our questions and requests, provided straightforward answers, worked efficiently and studiously, were pleasurable to interact with, and scheduled around our comings and goings if needed. Oscar and his crew have a sense of pride in their work. He has an entertaining and healthy sense of humor and a good rapport with his crew. Also, he was the only company that would come to the house. We had wasps getting into our attic and we needed to shore up the air vents under the eaves of our roof. I hired ODR Roofing to replace a failing part of our 5-year roof. We had a TPU membrane on a cricket roof that got eaten away by roof rats, creating a leak. We also had to add attic roof ventilation to parts of our roof. We consulted several companies and found out that few of them could handle TPU membrane repair/replacement (typically commercial and Eichler) and ridge-venting (typically traditional residential). Some companies could be part of the job, but would hire subs for the other parts, resulting in expensive quotes, or simply decline to do the job. Oscar gave us a competitive quote to replace the membrane with more traditional roofing and we picked that solution. The project took a few days longer because of technician availability but everything went fine. I do recommend this company and would hire them again. read more

We had moderate damage to our home, due to a leak in our roofing. After we had work done by another roofing company to temporarily stop the leak during a rain storm, we looked for a quality roofing company that would perform the permanent repairs. Prior to this roofing job, we had our living room gutted and the carpet, water and moisture removed by another service contractor leaving the final roof repair necessary before reconstruction could begin. When trying to schedule the original roofing company, their urgency wasn't as much a concern as mine was since I knew that it was going to rain soon and their scheduling was out another 4-5 weeks. I called ODR Roofing and spoke to Oscar Ruiz, the owner. My call was answered after their normal working hours on Tuesday. On Wednesday, his son, Oscar Jr., and crew arrived at my house on time at 8:00am, (that would be the very next day). They remove 10 concrete tiles, the debris that caused the damage and the damaged tar paper sealant. They swept and blew out the valley where 2 roofs joined together and the gutters where the debris had accumulated, which allowed rainwater to leak underneath the paper and get inside. They then installed new tar paper and replaced my tiles and completed the repairs before noon. In less than 18 hours, I had made my first phone call and the roof was completely repaired! Oscar understood the urgency and bent his schedule to help me out in a big way. I cannot say enough good things about ODR Roofing considering their response, knowledge, compassion, friendliness and the quality of their work. Great roofing company to do business with! During the work, Oscar showed up almost every days to supervise and talk to you as owner for any concern or input. The price is not the lowest but in between the lows and highs and reasonable, and they do quality work. There were some unexpected extra work during our roofing project upon removal of the old roof and he just charged the extra work based on time and materials. After the work is completed about a year ago, there were two minor issues happening earlier this year (a small circular eave vent hole screen cover came off and some paint chipping on a vent cover housing on the roof), he sent his crew back to fix them within a few days upon notification. ODR Roofing had the most competitive bid which included gutters, O'Hagin vents plus many other features that were detailed in the estimate. (Most other bids were not detailed). My roof did have some wood rot that was repaired at a reasonable cost. I called many roofing companies to fix our roof that was leaking for quite some time. No luck. I finally called O.D.R. and got a hold of Charlie. He actually picked up the phone and answered. He was helpful and responsive to my texts. He sensed my urgency and tried to come out to fix the leak as soon as he can depending on the rain. Even though the forecast said it would rain that Saturday, he still reserve his time to schedule us in. I liked the fact that he send me text updates whether he would be able to make it or not. Usually, contractors are extremely busy and don't notify you in time or not at all. Saturday came around, he texted me right away that he's able to come out and fixed it. He came with 3 of his workers. He sent me pics of the roof and explained what was causing the leak. He finished it in two hours. Hours later, it rained. Luckily, Charlie fixed the leak before the storm came in the next few days. Otherwise, there would have been a major water damage. He promised and he delivered. This review is overdue, as my 25+ year shake roof was replaced in July. However now that we've been through our worst rainstorms in a decade I'm completely comfortable giving ODR Roofing 5 stars as my new composite roof and gutters performed impeccably. I received 4 bids and although all were close, ODR was my most competitive bid (I went with Certainteed Landmark Pro). But where ODR really stood above the rest is that Oscar included upgrades that some of the others were charging a premium for, such as ridge vents. He also made suggestions that none of the other firms offered that would enhance the final appearance of the roof and my house. The major one being the addition of fascia boards behind the gutters to cover the "rafter tails" and provide a level straight edge for the new roof. (I'm very glad I did it). The job commenced on time, and the crew was always courteous and professional, and cleaned the job site up well after each day. Oscar was often on the job working along side his crew which works like a fine oiled machine. I did need some carpentry work to replace dry rot and found ODR to be very skilled carpenters, craftsmen, and painters! They even removed my gate and trimmed it to fit properly without asking or charging me extra. My new roof and gutters were completely installed in about 4-5 days and it passed inspection with flying colors! More importantly, it's now "battle tested" and performs as it should! This is the most honesty and hard working team of contractors and roofers I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. First, everyone at ODR are real stand up people. He came in with a very detailed quote and I let him know that I had other bids. We spoke and meet me about half way between his and the other guys quote. I should mention the other people where Craigslist and very sketchy when I meet with them and of course a sketchy possibly not licenses person would beat a Professional Group the caliber of ODR. Let me elaborate here, I told ODR of the situation and my budget because my wife and I had just gotten the news of our baby was going to be born breach. That would be 3 charges that where unexpected of $5000+ for the breach baby c-section, $1250 for some plumbing issues, and I do personal income taxes on top of all of this so I had no time to tackle the project for a patch or fix. On top of all of this its ODR and all roofers busy season. HE COULD HAVE CHARGED ME 2500 or 5000 for a weak patch-it-up job, but he did not. ODR explained to me that the Job needed to be done professionally the first time, and he was going to honor a 5 year warranty for any job he did, but he could not honor that in good faith without doing the job the right way. *(I also had other Yelp roofers give me quotes of 3000+ for patch jobs and other less thorough jobs, that would probably been done incorrectly and not back by a 5 YEAR WARRANTY!!!) I, of course, WENT WITH THE BEST TEAM OF ROOFERS in the SAN JOSE metro area. I am glade I did, I have patched that damn roof over 3 times once myself with my friends, and spent over $1000 doing it in 5 years. Books, tools, and other important items have been damaged and the roof had root on the ply wood where it was done poorly or previous "roofers" had used nails that where too long or improperly sealed so rust and root happened. To Recap: 1. ODR IS THE GREATEST DAMN GROUP OF ROOFERS IN THE BAY AREA 2. THEY SAVED ME FROM HIRING A CRAIGSLIST REJECT (again) 3. THEY HAD A DETAILED ESTIMATE THAT WAS OVERLY COMPETITIVE 4. ALL THIS DURING EL NINO, it has not leaked through the latest set of storms this week, which is better than what happened when I paid $400 dollars to a craigslister a couple of years ago. 9. Oscar takes his customer service seriously and has come out on several occasions to help us with patching leaks and making spot repairs on our challenging roof (we had thin ceramic tiles that would easily crack if someone inexperienced tried to move over them). I hired ODR (Oscar) to help a minority owned business and paid him towards the high end of estimates that I had. After he started removing my old roof and getting my payments, he asked for additional $3700 (around 10%) more stating he found things wrong but could not find time to get my approval, I paid him then two weeks after he finished the roof and I paid him the last check, I found out there are many disconnected gutters under my decking, worrying about my foundation, I called him many times, sent him pictures and texted him but he found excuses and never showed up to fix them or even visit me again; Last Sunday 12/1/2019, with the first serious rain, I found a pile of water on my oven top and dripping from under the hood, called Oscar, sent him picture of leaking and he eventually called and since it was dar by then, he sent someone Monday morning who found most of flushing (plastic caps) were loose but also found leaking around my chimney, Oscar claimed it is the chimney and not his roof (even if my chimney never leaked before he replaced my roof); it is a week, I'm calling, texting Oscar to send someone to inspect my roof and his latest excuse is that he's out of California (he could have sent someone); never seen anything like this before; trying all my options to hold him accountable for his contractual obligations! read more

It was an extremely busy time of the year for roofers and I was loosing hope of getting it fixed anytime soon when I found Oscar. !!!!SCAM-SCAM-SCAM!!! I hired ODR roofing to find and seal a leak in my roof. i had water damage coming though two spots in my Master bedroom ceiling. Oscar came and said "i found the leak and i will seal it". so i paid him almost $900 to do that. When a drywall contractor came out to repair the water damage in the master bedroom he notice that the damage was actually not coming from the area ODR "repaired" but from a totally different part of the roof. I asked Oscar what they actually repaired and if i could could get pictures of what they repaired, he told me "yes" but he never came to show me these pictures and never returned my calls.
