This local roofing company wins me over 100x. My roof developed at leak this winter and we emergency tarped it. Nobody is ever ready to drop a 5 figure dollar amount on a roof, so you'd better find someone you are absolutely comfortable with. After trying to learn as much as I could about roofing, there are three shingle companies that certify their installers : GAF, Certainteed and Owens-Corning. Knowing if you went with their certified installers, a 20+ year warranty would be applied to the workmanship and materials. I sought out a couple of these companies, and decided on trusting a local smaller company, with less salesmanship and less overhead. The world of roofing is huge, as I got bombarded with more than 10 companies reaching out for business. Many specialize in just roofing, others are general contractors that do siding and other constructions . I just wanted a company that's sole business is roofing. This company is Pro Roofing. I got quotes from a large company's salesman with a perfect portfolio and also quotes from a cheaper non -certified , but licensed roofer. Sam's quote was middle rung, and but provided high quality materials. Sam and his crew do wonderful work. Communication is key. They showed up on time, and kept all the appointments. They also took care of the roofing permit. We did a couple of walkthroughs during demo, wood repair, installation and the final inspection. What you need to remember is that after tear off of the old roof, the wood decking hidden underneath the old shingles may need to be replaced, which may incur additional charges that Sam's company charged a very reasonable price. This is a review that I should have done earlier. Part of our roof was replaced in July, and we were pleased with the coordination, communication and professionalism of Pro Roofing. I'm delighted that we hired Sam to help us with roofing work. He helped install three skylights, a sun tunnel, and a few vents. Relatively a small job for him, but he worked with us and was very flexible. I did a recent remodel of my home in San Jose with a licensed contractor, who did such a shoddy job with the roof that I had several leaks during the rains in January. I contacted various roofers on Yelp to help fix the problems. Samuel from pro roofing was one of the few who was willing to do a free onsite consultation. Others either wanted a fee or were keen on selling me bandaid solutions like tarp etc. to take advantage of the situation. Samuel was thorough in his evaluation, found all of the issues and code violations and proposed replacing a section of the roof entirely as a more economical solution to the various problems. He included permit costs in his proposal, covered my roof with tarp for free to prevent leaks until he could come over to do the actual job.
