This a hidden gem that I'm glad we found. My family and I visited this place for brunch and after only being there for 10 minutes we all agreed that we'd more than likely return. The music was A WHOLE VIBE on a Sunday. There were 9 of us, so they had to put a couple of tables together, not a lot of elbow room, but we made it work! Back to the music.... I sang and bopped with every song, in between sips of coffee. I would go again just for the playlist alone. I ordered a waffle combo with a side of eggs and red hot sausage. I will say, the one thing that was noticed was how long it took for the food to arrive to the table. Everything is made to order, but I'm going to hope that there is more help in the kitchen on the next visit because it took about 30-40 minutes for the food to be made. However, once the food arrived, it was really good. The waffles are softer than my preference but they were hot and cooked all the way through (trust me, this cannot be said for every place). When it was time to check out, the cashier informed us of the desserts and I gladly got some banana pudding to go. However, once I got a chance to eat it, I was a little disappointed with the small amount I got for the price. If you have in the restaurant, you may receive more of a serving; so try and let me know. The placed wasn't packed so my hunger was increasing, but in a good way. The food came and it refused to be the star of the show. The waffles weren't hot, not sure what the salmon cake was posing as and the eggs left little to be desired. I was surprised to receive French Toast in three long slabs of baguette bread. But the atmosphere here is so warm and settling that I felt much better the moment I sat down. This could be because of nested memories from where I grew up but the soul of this place is palpable. I had the shrimp and grits which were some of the best that I have had in a greasy spoon sort of way. The sauce on the shrimp was salty and rich and very flavorful and the grits were rich and creamy and well cooked. I also tried the pancakes and they were as good as any diner style pancakes I have had. Coffee took 4-5 minutes to arrive which was annoying, biscuits took 10 minutes, and one of our friends got his side order of eggs at the very end of the meal. On the bright side they eventually left a pitcher of water and carafe of coffee so we were good the rest of the meal. The place was not busy from 11-12 on a Sunday which was a big draw for our large party and they were accommodating and set up a table for 7 when we called ahead. Food: The meal started off poorly when the complimentary sweet potato biscuits came out chewy and dry, clearly microwaved instead of being warmed in a oven. We all took a bite and ignored them the rest of the meal. The biscuit I ordered with my meal, however, was completely different because it was larger, had more moisture, and was actually crumbly instead of tough/chewy. Dipped in honey, it was actually tasty with only a mild sweet potato flavor. My sausage hot plate was decent. The sausage patties were lightly crisped, salty, and savory. They lacked the fluffy loose texture and moisture of fresh patties which makes me suspect they were frozen a while. The home fries were cooked to the perfect done-ness but lacked any crisp and had an unappealing thick coating of oil over them. The eggs were the best part of the dish and tasted home made. They were fluffy and moist and not thinned with milk, cornstarch, or any other filler. Overall the food at Nzingas is only mediocre but the prices are good and its offbeat location makes an impromptu brunch for a large group practical instead of waiting 30-45 minutes in the American Tobacco district. read more

My husband and I went here for a nice brunch date this past week. We went with the most recommended dishes - French toast and shrimp and grits. The French toast came with eggs and a breakfast meat which we chose the salmon cake (we ordered in person. I noticed it was not on the online ordering at this point). That salmon cake was the best darn salmon cake I've ever eaten in my life... It was so good! And that wasn't even the big recommendation! The French toast was perfectly sweet and the shrimp and grits were perfectly spiced! It was all so so good! So good I forgot to take pictures before it was devoured my only wish is that they were open more days of the week! Everyone needs to try this place! Right now there is no dine in. So my family and I went here for brunch We had been once before and the food was decent. There aren't many non-chain breakfast options in the area so we came back here. When we arrive they were about half- full with 3-4 tables open. It took awhile to get acknowledged by the waitress, she finally came over to tell us it would be 15 minutes to be seated as they had to clean off the tables, yes I said 15 minutes to wipe off 1 table. The other waitress was cleaning the table so slow it made no sense, about 7 minutes later we were seated, she told us that the kitchen was backed up and it would be awhile for food, I said ok, and thanked her for letting us know. She left, 30 minutes later I had to go to her to ask if we could have some water or something, which is ridiculous. She said she'd send someone over, she came over 15 minutes later and asked us what we wanted to drink l, I was livid. I told her I understand the food being slow, but we should still get beverage service, she looked looked at me like I had 3 heads. I told her their customer service sucks and she needs better customer service skills. We left and for wasted. I won't be returning read more

Menu said it had bell peppers, onions, sausage, sour cream and salsa. No sour cream and salsa and the entire omelette was loaded with jalapeños. I hate jalapeños and you can't really get rid of that flavor even if you pick them out. Also ordered 3 pieces of turkey sausage on the side and was charged for 3. Got 2. French toast was to die for. Probably the most unique and most delicious french toast I have ever had. I also really enjoyed the sweet potato biscuits and the cajun grits. My only note would be the packaging of the grits. The lid had a hole for a straw so the grits got in the bag, and because styrofoam isn't good with extremely hot things, when transferring my leftovers, there were pieces of styrofoam breaking up onto my food. Of course with grits, this was challenging. Overall the food was extremely delicious and I would highly recommend. I just wish the would have packaged the grits differently. read more
