French toast was to die for. Probably the most unique and most delicious french toast I have ever had. I also really enjoyed the sweet potato biscuits and the cajun grits. My only note would be the packaging of the grits. The lid had a hole for a straw so the grits got in the bag, and because styrofoam isn't good with extremely hot things, when transferring my leftovers, there were pieces of styrofoam breaking up onto my food. Of course with grits, this was challenging. Overall the food was extremely delicious and I would highly recommend. I just wish the would have packaged the grits differently. read more

So disappointed in the food today Saturday feb 27! No flavor in any of it and for the prices you charge it's unacceptable. This was the last time going.! I'm so disappointed the food is so inconsistent the flavors that you were known for are not there every week or on the days you're open. And to me you should not serve food if you cannot maintain the level and the quality that you started out with. Got a chance to try this place for the first time on a Sunday morning. The menu is diverse and contains mostly brunch/breakfast items but they do have wings and salads. Food is priced reasonably and is delicious. The place was not packed when we went so food came out quickly however I can imagine others days may be different if it's super busy. The location is not huge and has a small area to dine in. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great breakfast at a great price. Love supporting black owned businesses. read more

We've been dying to try Nzinga's for a while, and finally made it in! Hooray! Overall definitely a good experience; we plan to go back and explore the rest of the menu as well. A couple of heads-ups: - 826 is the *building* in a strip mall - Nzinga's is Suite #110. There is ample parking in the shopping center parking lot. - When you walk in, you will greeted with a "Hi there - dine in?" Apparently they have a LOT of take-out orders (I guess?) so that's their first question. I didn't quite catch it the first time, and heard "dining?" I didn't answer right away (I'm here, aren't I? Of course I want to dine...) BUT happily The Boy figured out what we'd been asked, said "Yes, please," and we were seated right away. I heard this same greeting repeated for every customer who came in after us, so be prepared to specify first thing - "dine in" or "to go"! The Boy ordered a "Meat Trio" omelette (sausage, bacon, ham, cheddar) with wheat toast and fresh fruit, plus a coffee with creamer. I ordered a "Veggie Lovers" omelette (onions, bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms), but I asked to substitute turkey sausage instead of the mushrooms and to make it with egg whites only; I had a sweet potato biscuit and fresh fruit on the side, plus a glass of orange juice. First of all, the omelettes are HUGE! Delicious and very filling - they don't skimp on any of the ingredients, and the weren't too oily at all (which is a pet peeve of mine). We were both perfectly full by the time we finished our meals - and the omelettes alone probably would have been sufficient. The Boy had no complaints about his at all. I have two somewhat minor complaints (minor for me, but could have been major for someone else). First, the kitchen did not remember to make my omelette with egg whites only. Our waitress (who was very friendly) set my plate down in front of me, and I looked at it for a few seconds before asking, "Is this egg-white only..?" Only then did she confirm, "Oh, no, it's not - they forgot. I was going to offer to take it back for you - do you want me to take it back?" I don't like to waste food, so I said not to worry about it, I'd eat it - and she assured me that the extra $1.50 to upgrade to egg whites would be taken off my bill (and it was). Second, and more problematic, was that my omelette ALSO came with cheddar, which was nowhere specified on the menu. I ought to have asked, admittedly - it's not uncommon to throw in cheese, after all - but silly me, I thought that, because cheese was specified on the menu for the other two omelettes but not for the Veggie Lover's, it would not have cheese on it. I'm lactose intolerant, so I avoid cheese whenever possible, and would definitely have asked them to hold it if I'd known. As it was, I pulled some of it off; thankfully, it was not a massive amount - and next time, I will know better. I will say, I was delighted to find that they offered both turkey bacon and sausage, and were happy to include it in my omelette (for a small upcharge - $0.60, maybe?) (TL;DR - the veggie omelette DOES have CHEESE! beware!) The wheat toast was fine. The sweet potato biscuits were divine, as others have already said. They're very dense but not overly heavy; distinctly sweet but not cloyingly so. Can be enjoyed with butter or honey but honestly don't need a thing. We ordered two more to go, and they're just as good reheated in the microwave at home! The fresh fruit was 100% pineapple. I was okay with this, as I like pineapple. The Boy does not like pineapple, and did not touch his fruit (but was satisfyingly full anyway, so didn't make a fuss). It would have been nice if the menu said "fruit of the day" or something, so we knew to ask what it would be, rather than assuming a standard mix of berries, melon, etc. The coffee was good (says The Boy) and came with little packets of International Delight French Vanilla, which is his favorite - bonus points! I quite liked my orange juice, too. SO! Overall: 4 stars. I can't give 5 because A) we've only been once and can't comment on consistency, B) the lack of communication about cheese and fruit, plus the egg-white mix-up. Also, the table was cleaned but still had a small sticky spot (not a huge deal for me) and I did find one stray hair on my plate (but again, this does not freak me out; it happens, and I don't feel like it contaminates my entire meal). I would probably give 3.5 stars if I could, but as I'm already looking forward to going back and trying some of their other menu options, a warm 4 seems more appropriate by far than a mere 3. Other: we didn't use the restrooms; can't comment. At noon on a Sunday we were one of only 4 tables; the place was pretty empty, but had good music playing and no TV, thankfully! Cleanliness seemed fine; the sanitation score was a 99.0. Service was laid-back but sufficient and friendly. read more

The servers were noticeably inexperienced and unknowledgeable of the menu, but when I took that 1st bite, all my doubts went out the window. My girlfriend and I ordered 3 entrees due to our indecisiveness but that only allowed for some amazing leftovers. The wait time was definitely an issue so I would recommend alotting time for that. We ordered the 2pc fish with Mac and cheese and yams. They were out of yams so they gave me a second portion of Mac and cheese but doubled the size! It was extra cheesy and creamy. The French toast is HUGE and sweet. The shrimp and grits are a must try. The food was amazing and worth returning for. The lack luster service is far overshadowed by great tasting food. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. After ordering our food we were offered biscuits 30 minutes later. 30 minutes after that, which made it an hour since we placed our order the server decides to tell us that they order didn't print to the kitchen. I understand these stuff happen but it shouldn't take an hour to figure that out. On top of that we had to tell her our order all over again The food finally came, but everything was wrong. We ordered French toast and drummettes with honey bbq sauce but instead got a dry waffle and chicken tenders with the hottest sauce in the kitchen . Food came out at different times shrimp was cold. Also ordered a red velvet waffle , sausage and eggs which were all beyond subpar. The service was terrible and unapologetic. The server said we would get a discount for the wait and we didn't. When it was time to pay I told the girl at the counter all my issues with the service and she honestly didn't seem to care at all. For what I tasted today I could have went to Mcdonalds and got a better meal on a Sunday. This place is over hyped. Everything is great here I would recommend the Buffalo wings if your a wing lover! Especially for Wing fest Wednesdays (50 cent)! This is the most amazing restaurant find I have had in a while! My family and I were in Raleigh on vacation, and when we travel we always make a point of staying away from chain restaurants as much as possible. I pulled up Yelp and looked for something relatively close to us, and thus found Nzinga's. The restaurant was nice, and the people friendly, but the food was the star here. It was amazing! I had the spicy sausage omelette with homefries and a sweet potato biscuit, while my wife had the deep-fried shrimp and my father had the fried fish. My omelette was fluffy and well-cooked, and sausage had a wonderful flavor. The home fries were great, and the biscuit was a religious experience! My wife's shrimp was very good, but I personally liked the hand-breaded fish Dad has better. The fish was so tender, and the breading was seasoned but no overpowering nor too crispy. Nzinga's is the best place to eat in Raleigh, hands down! read more
