From some help finding a good spot to park to a great, effortless cut, this was a totally refreshing experience at Nue. I haven't been here in over a year. I can't find a good hair salon so I decided to give them a try again as I have no clue how it will go since it's been so long. The person in front is so welcoming and friendly. The owner on the other hand didn't seem friendly with new customers. I thought that was odd. I did see he was friendly with other customers that I believe were regulars. My sons appointment was at 12pm with Bianca she was running a little behind but didn't have to wait for a long time she was there by 12:20pm I totally understand things happen. I cant explain enough how happy and confident I feel when I walk out of this studio. I discovered Nue with Yelp (eyy) and cant bring myself to go to another place after that. My first haircut here was by the one and only, hilarious, vulgar, super talented Todd Jameson. All cuts are done DRY, heads up if youre expecting to be lathered and pamered- wash and dry your hair before coming. I agree with this method as every string and peice of hair is taken into account with its normal volume and style. Todd always takes his time with my haircuts, paying attention to every detail. Analyzing my hair several times before giving the final word. I admire someone who takes such pride in their work. I came here after finding their page on Instagram and seeing the great work they have done on their current clientele. I went to Bianca back in March with a bad embarrassing haircut from another overpriced salon that ghosted me after I asked for a trim when the hair didn't sit right after a few washes (their salon's name rhymes with Ted). Bianca was amazing and took my concerns to heart. I wanted a bob with stacks - STACKS - and she delivered. They were very cute and I loved the cut. I also love how colorful and clean the salon is, with humorous f*ck tr*mp stickers. I love that they took a stand against bigotry. I feel very comfortable in the salon. Nue Studios is a very reputable hair salon in Miami. As it should be. If you look at their Facebook page and Instagram, they actually do pretty excellent work. MOST of their customers leave there extremely satisfied with beautiful hair. What you don't see, is what rarely happens...which is extremely damaged hair caused by their professionals either on accident or on lack of experience. I'm one of those customers that unfortunately suffered from what I'm pretty sure was an accidental misfortune. My stylist was actually one of the most awesome hair stylists I've had in the past. I know she didn't damage my hair on purpose. Now, regardless of it being on purpose or not, my hair was terribly damaged and all I asked for was reimbursement on my costs while I was there. I didn't ask for additional "free treatments", I didn't ask for "free stuff". I just wanted to be reimbursed for what I paid for...which I think is pretty fair since what I ended up with was nothing near what I had asked for. This review is actually only taking place because I've been asking NUE STUDIOS for help for OVER 1 YEAR and nothing's been done. The owner there actually started ignoring my emails a little over 1 month ago. Here's the thing...I wasn't able to get in touch for a long while because I moved out of the Country. Upon my return to visit, I reengaged them asking them for help with my refund. My hair cost me quite a bit of money. I'll be trying to add some pictures of what happened on facebook and instagram. I went there asking for red hair with some small peekaboo's in pastel pink. When I got there, the hairdresser was awesome and I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she was excited. As was I. 4 hours later...when I was getting my hair dried....my hair was nothing close to what I wanted. My hair was GREEN. She could tell I didn't like it and even she said "that's not what I expected would happen". I spent another 2 hours there with her washing it out of my hair. I came back again 2 weeks later and had to work on it even more due to the fact that my hair was STILL GREEN. The stylist was so sweet I tipped her both times. Again, accidents happen. Long story short...over the timespan of the next few weeks and then months, my hair fell out. I've spent the last year going to salons and getting treatments to try and get my hair healthy again. Do I blame the hair stylist? Sure! She's a professional and this shouldn't have happened. Do I hate her for what she did? No. Mistakes happen. But it's HOW YOU HANDLE THE MISTAKES THAT COUNTS. I went directly to the owner of Nue and he told me he'd refund me and even give me treatments. I told him at the time that I had seen a refund come through and that anything additional wasn't necessary. Move forward to November...and I see the refund get taken back. That's when I started getting in touch with him again and he assured me he'd take care of it. Well, I've sent over 10 emails to him, facebook messages on their page, and emails to the salon...no response. Not ONE PERSON willing to help me after what happened. This review could have actually been a very positive one. All they had to do was refund me for my damaged hair. Instead, here we are. It's disappointing that people aren't willing to rectify their mistakes. I do believe there are good professionals that work at NUE STUDIOS, but when you work in an environment where the customer doesn't come first, then you cannot be recommended. So yeah, I don't recommend anyone go to this salon...because if you're one of the few people that has a bad experience there, it won't be taken seriously and you won't be taken care of. read more

By far the coolest salon I've ever walked into in my life and I've walked into plenty including a punk tatoo/salon in Prague. I called and made an appointment and was set up to go meet Caroline. Parking was simple as one would expect near the Midtown high-rises. I walked less then a block and into what appeared to be some sort of odd, vintage store/ gallery from the outside. Once inside I realized it is a gallery space but it's also a personally curated studio full of personality and clearly a labor of love, sweat, tears, music, and hairspray. Yes, music is a major part of this operation and adds another dimension of soul and depth as if this place needed another shot of cool. There is enough genuine, old-fashioned, non-contrived, pre-hipster cool in here to make us all believe Midtown has a chance. Onto my stylist and I. We meet, I let go of my hair which was in a sad, ponytail, bun hybrid and there it is half-wet/half-dry, all wrong. I look up to see Caroline's reflection in the mirror and there it is a look only a stylist can give you, a moment of silence full of shock, horror, and disappointment and of course questions. At this point many a stylist would wimp out and say something nice or complimentary full of flowery, feel good euphemisms. Instead, she tells me my hair looks like shit. Those probably weren't the exact words, but it's close. There was no sugar coating here. Instead she said we could make a serious change to the length and cut away all the damage and rid me of the negativity attached to my hair or keep the length and the nightmare of tips chemically burned. I opted for the former. Everyone wants a fresh start right? She worked fast and well, we conversed but she was concentrating on my hair and thinking about all the options and the best outcomes. Still in the midst of all this upon hearing I was trying to hit another establishment for some eyebrow waxing she made a phone call and got me an appt while I sat in her chair. All the while proving to be one of those stylists you can build long-term bonds with. At first glance I wasn't in love but I knew I'd made the right decision and sure enough within hours I was quickly becoming more enamored with my shoulder length, slightly layered, jaggedy cut. It somehow makes me look younger and Caroline was right the negativity towards my hair is gone. Cost: Expect to pay around $45- 65 they charge by the hour not the job. They usually cut dry, so word to the wise come with clean, dry hair or you can spend some extra time here. Will I be back? Is there any doubt? Due to my crazy hair and the transformation I wanted... I spent quite a bit of time at the salon. So much time that my hair specialist (D Jones) even gave me half his lunch. Below are my observations. The venue: Very hip with a rock vibe. Super clean. Lots of mirrors. Comfortable seating. Great decorations. Conveniently located close to shops and restaurants, but still located in a very private street. The staff: Really friendly and laid back. Honest. Professional. EXPERIENCED & SKILLED! I did my hair with D Jones (see below). But while I was doing my hair I got to see the work of other staff members and I was very impressed with the results of each and every one of their customers. I was like "wow that guy did not look attractive at all when he got here... now he looks GREAT!" The clientele: I think they get all types of clients since they have a pretty good reputation. I saw all types of hair. The atmosphere: No pressure. Relaxed. D Jones: I've read several reviews on him and all have been A+++ reviews. Personally, I thought he was very patient and understanding throughout the entire process. He listened to every detail I had to say about my hair and how I wanted it and then kindly made his suggestions. He explained clearly what the results would be and worked with me on the price. He worked incessantly on my hair until it was complete. Because I have so much hair he rearranged his entire schedule without hesitation. He seems to lead a good relationship with his clients since rescheduling appointments was not a big deal for any client. That being said, I'm sure if he had an appointment that could not be moved he would have asked me to come back the next day and prioritized for his client. So my last hair experience at another salon was so bad I didn't even review it. I just can't bring myself to saying anything because it will come out very mean. I have been trying to grow out this horrible haircut when I saw Todd. I have heard such amazing things about him, plus some VERY good friends Ken and Ritch swear by him. Lets start with my expectations, as it is I expected a hyperposh salon with a few underfed stylists with attitude. What I walked into blew me away. It reminded me of something I would walked into in the city in Chicago where I grew up. Cool, laid back, colorful and extremely funky. I knew this would be good. I didn't know who Todd was and when I saw him I was also surprised. He looked nothing like what I expected either. He is more like the skateboarder with tats all over. Such good energy. After speaking to him about my issue and how unhappy I was because of the royal eff up that is my hair. He explained that curls were his specialty. I was so happy to hear this... Many stylists don't know how to cut curls right. It took two stylists and three hair cuts to do it. this badly. He agreed that it was horrible and explained as he cut it dry why he did it this way and how each curl should be cut so it lays right. I was very impressed when I went to get a haircut at this place.. met and had my hair done by the great Todd Jameson himself. This man is awesome. I called and got my appointment on the same day. I was having split ends like crazy, and also had a perm a few months prior. I was feeling uneasy as this was my first time getting a haircut in Miami; I always went home to LA to get my hair cut done by my usual stylist for the past 10 years. However, the split ends were annoying me as anyone sitting next to me could see them.. yea it was that bad. I am really glad I came here. Todd really takes the time to listen to your concerns and your questions before giving you his input. I loved the fact that he went through with me what he was going to do with my hair and even gave me a mirror to hold to show how the back was going to look like when the hair starts growing out. I've seen a variety of customers hear ranging from young adolescents to seniors so don't let the punk rock atmosphere fool you. In the end I am very happy with my haircut and my wallet wasn't hurting too much. For a drycut i paid $60 including tip. Parking: I parked at the Target/Midtown Shopping Plaza where the first hour is free and $1/hr afterwards. I ended up only paying $1. The place is only 5-10 min walk from the parking garage. Quick? Check. Cheap? Check. Quality? Check. This place has got it all. I didn't know what to really expect and kind of just went on a whim because I really needed a cut. Me and a friend ventured in (30 minutes late) and still got great service. I've never gotten my hair cut dry before and was definitely hesitant but put my fate in Todd's scissors and let him go to work. By the end, I looked and felt like a new person. He even said that I could come in for a free bang trim whenever that time rolled around, and I'm certain I'll go back. It sounds like there are great expansions planned and this place is only going to get better (including a nail station!) Over the years I've definitely learned you gotta go to haircuts with a little bit of leeway when it comes to time. **IF YOU HAVE NATURALLY CURLY HAIR YOU NEED TO MAKE RODRIGO YOUR STYLIST!!** I went to Nue Studios for the first time about 2 years ago when my naturally curly hair was so damaged from the sun that it wouldn't curl on its own. My hair was very long at the time and I was very nervous about how much would be cut and the way they would cut it (If you have curly hair you know what it feels like to walk out of a salon with triangle hair). Rodrigo is amazing! He told me getting back my curl would be a process and that my hair would need a lot of cutting but that he wouldn't cut it all at once (that was a huge relief for me). He spent about an hour curling my very thick, damaged strands with his finger to help bring back the curl. He went over a whole hair routine with me and gave me such great advice about how to manage my hair in this Miami Heat. After about 3 visits to Rodrigo I had my natural curls back and my hair is now in great shape. Chill atmosphere. They sell clothes in the front. I liked the different art on the walls and the vinyl cover tiling on the floor. Relaxed, hipster vibe. Todd cut my hair and did an awesome job. He asked me what I wanted and made sure we had the same picture. I cut off ten inches and was transformed from long straight hair to an asymmetrical bob that stops about an inch and a half below my chin in the front. Loved it and loved Todd's meticulousness and precision. It's kind of hidden away so if it's your first time, arrive a little early cuz it might be hard for you to find. My whole cut was $50 before tip. Awesome. I'd give the place 5 stars but was a bit thrown off by the fact that they didn't shampoo my hair.. good thing I washed it that morning. OH MY GOODNESS Not only did the tactfully whimsical atmosphere of the entire salon bode as an experience of its own, but I would like to take a moment to talk about a specific, very special young lady by the name of Manderine. Albeit she may also introduce herself as Amanda. It depends on the citrus level in the air tonight (and whether you can feel it coming). Not only did Manderine exceed my expectations in everything I was hoping for from a trip to the salon, but she explained why she was doing WHAT she was doing throughout the process. On top of that, she was able to flawlessly visualize and conceptualize all of my thoughts and preferences to a "T". There were absolutely no tears and no surprises (even though I came in with 1000 knots, she managed to ease them away seamlessly), and I have never felt more calm and comfortable in somebody's hair hands. She truly did such a spectacular job from start to finish, and all at the perfect pace. And the smells! Oh my gosh...the smells. I was ready to throw dollar bills onto the entire selection of products before even having seen the finished product because they smelled so darn good. On that subject, let me tell you that this girl knows her products like no one's business, and she is a wizard when it comes to color and bleach. She will supersede your expectations and even give you stickers (Caution: You will probably end up getting endless compliments for years like I did). Being French, I'm very picky with the places I choose to cut my hair... simply because most places don't know how to cut straight hair correctly. They just buzz their way through every cut. Sadly I must update my review to reflect the current state of affairs at Nue. The last time I went in for a haircut with Todd, I was really disappointed. First, the appointment was impossible to get because he's constantly leaving to open a spa, a tattoo shop, a salon in LA, or to launch a product line in China. Or whatever. That should've been my first clue. I booked something months in advance and just put it on my calendar. I'm growing my hair out, so I wasn't too turned-off by the lack of immediacy. I just wanted to get a nice trim from my favorite stylist. I used to love that Todd was "dry cut" only. It was quick and it was cheap. But if you hadn't blown out your hair before arriving, it could be, as I found, disappointing. I have stick-straight hair, but it had some kinks in it from being in a ponytail. I thought he would at least spritz some water on it and blow dry for a second to make sure the hair was straight. But he starting cutting anyways. He was also very distracted by all the people around in the salon, and I almost felt like I was a burden, keeping him from playing with his friends. There were maybe 5 people who had just dropped in to chat with Todd while he was cutting my hair. He had full-on, "let's catch up" conversations with all of these people while cutting my hair. I was getting nervous. I had asked for some minor layering since the ends were a little dead. Longish story shortish, when I washed out my hair and blow dried it at home, the lengths were all off and I was wishing I'd told him to just trim it. But even then it would've been an uneven trim because he never evened out the kinks :/ And this is a haircut I waited 2 months for? I have to say that I was really optimistic about getting my hair done at Todd Jameson Nue Studio because of all the amazing Yelp reviews but sadly, I did not have a similar experience to many other Yelpers. So I called literally right when they opened (11:00 am) and asked how much a half a head of highlights were as well as a cut/blowdry. The woman on the phone told me $100 and up for highlights and the haircut/blowdry is $75 flat. I'm not fooled by the "and up" as I have been to MAAAANY salons so I made sure to ask what the AND UP meant. I called to many other salons from Coral Gables to Miami Beach looking for the right price/reviews so this was important for me. She told me that the maximum amount a half a head of highlights would be is $135 and that most of the clients that she sees it does end up being $100. I told her that I had long hair but she still confirmed that it would most likely be $100. Perfect. I was happy that they were able to fit me in for a half a head of highlights and a cut/blowdry the same day and I arrived on time for my appointment (well 5 minutes late because this hair salon is pretty hard to find) and was taken within 5 minutes. I was surprised as usually when I stroll into a hair salon I end up waiting a good 20 minutes or so before anyone even touches my hair. The salon itself is cute. It is grunge meets the Wynwood art district pretty much. It's got the rock style vibe to it which I was digging. The stylist was nice and made some small talk and overall I did like the salon. So I told the stylist what I wanted as far as color, cut, etc. and she got to work. I was happy with the results of my hair (although I haven't washed it out yet so I will see the real results after a few days) but when I went to the check out the stylist told the receptionist that it was $245 (before tip). That is VERY different than $175!!!!!! I was shocked. So shocked that I couldn't even think of how to say "UM WHAT?" Like I was not expecting that. For $245 Jesus better be doing my highlights. I could go to one of the best salons in South beach and have the owner do my hair for that price. I could fly back home to my favorite stylist in New York to do that. That price definitely did not fit in with the environment which was a laid-back rocker style salon. Not a pretentious salon in South Beach. Then I had to leave a tip on top of the $245!!!!! At least 15%. How is everyone else calling this place cheap? I really don't get it. This place is VERY expensive and I would definitely say overrated. I was happy with my results but they didn't blow my mind...definitely won't be back. I will fly home from now on. read more

I found this salon on Yelp and mainly went because of all the great reviews. Made an appointment with Jason but apparently he got sick and no one called me to reschedule for another day. So I show up and "D" offers to cut my hair: I hesitated but ended up going for it. I showed him the progress I had made over months growing my hair and also showed him pictures where I was trying to go with it... He said OK and rushed into cutting my hair. He did not wash my hair before or after the haircut (maybe this is the norm here but I am not used to that so I am not complaining about that). My sides are uneven and so is my back (see picture I posted). My haircut was extremely short and I even told him I had gone months back in time. When he was cleaning my neck, he made me bleed. So after this 25 min session, I paid $45 but I would have been better off going to super cuts. I am sure they would have cared a little more. I do not recommend this place for its customer service (not calling me to reschedule). Or if you go, do not get a haircut with "D". read more

Nue Studio - Uneven by "D" - Hair Salons Near Me - Miami, Florida

I have a crush on this hair studio. Like, a super duper mega crush. I've been gushing about them to anyone who'll listen, and I'm not about to stop anytime soon. I found this gem of a salon thanks to Yelp - oh how I love you fellow Yelpers, you are so wise. I made an appointment for cut and color - I'd been going on the cheap to Aveda Institute, seeing students, but I decided enough was enough. Time to get serious with the locks. They book appointments almost anytime, so after work was no prob. I LOVED the place from the minute I walked in. Uber hip. Fishtank, eclectic art, comfy couch, candy, and beer. Todd went to work on my locks, chopping away at my dry hair. He was cool, casual, totally unpretentious in every way. Made me feel super comfortable. And he really knows his way around a cutting shear - my hair looked fab. After his work of art was complete, I was in Michaelangelo's hands. This man is THOROUGH. He asked me tons of questions, really addressed my wants and needs - more than any colorist ever has. And the end product was absolutely amazing. I was a little nervous about low lights because I like my blonde light, but he assuaged my fears and gave me a simply spectacular dimensional color. And his pooch, Lola, was the cutest little curly haired pup ever. I couldn't be happier with the end result. I never thought I could love my hair again like this, or take so much pride in it. These guys make the whole experience incredibly pleasant. They get super bonus points because: They actually care about saving you money. Prices are reasonable, they don't try to load you up with overpriced products, they made a suggestion on how I might be able to keep the cost down, and they don't tell you to come back every two weeks. Plus, free bang trims by Todd! I have NEVER in my life been to a nice salon that didn't want to rob you blind. That in itself is a mind-blowing feat. They're totally cool and not "salonish" whatsoever. They really respect their customers and it shows. They rock. I am so thrilled to have found this place. Thanks Yelpers, you guys are the best! I will be recommending this place to everyone I see and know. I only hope Todd and Michaelangelo will still have time for me when they're Miami's hottest attraction. ;) read more

I finally decided to take the plunge and suck up the $$ for the keratin treatment last Friday. I'm SO glad I did my research and SO glad this place was highly recommended because I had amazing results. Prices are comparable and because I haven't had a hair cut in ages, I had saved in anticipation of spending an arm and a leg. Thankfully I've still got both limbs! I decided to wait until after my first wash to write the review so I could give full details! :) The place itself is SUPER cute and trendy. I love the cds on the floor, original artwork on the walls and the unique mirrors. It was a bit hard to find with the GPS, but the girl who gave me directions over the phone was very friendly! (as was everyone in there!) Carolyn cheerfully greeted me and asked what I wanted to do with my hair. I mentioned going short b/c that is the most manageable for me + the keratin. She suggested NOT going short - especially b/c of the summer. I've always wanted a hair stylist who gave their own opinion so I gave caution to the wind and said do whatever you want! Thankfully she didn't get too crazy and added some bangs (free bang trims!), and some nice layers. She was very informative and made sure I understood proper care and treatment w/ the keratin. She gave me her cell phone number if I had any questions (which I did!) and was just a genuinely nice person. The keratin treatment itself took a couple of hours - but most of the time it is spent waiting with the stuff on your head. (it's not painless either; I was almost concerned my head was on fire but no worries that's why they have tequila, haha!) Thankfully they've got bumpin music and good reads to occupy your time. Many people mention how "cool" this salon is. I must admit that I was at first intimidated by the "coolness" factor. Upon meeting Todd, you can tell he's part of the "hipster" scene. Well at least more than me! He was a little distracted when I first walked in because he was working on his playlist for that night's gig as a DJ. As he focused on me, I relaxed and I felt comfortable chatting away with Todd as he did the keratin straightening treatment. I came to him after several Yelpers recommended him. It's been 2 months since I received the treatment and I can now tell you it has changed my life! I have thick wavy hair and getting ready has become a lot simpler and easier. Many people gave me personal horror stories and I've had nothing but success with the treatment. In fact, today my coworker asked me if I had just gotten my hair blown out. She thought it looked like a professional had done my hair! With all the horror stories, I cross-examined Todd about every aspect. He calmly answered all my questions. Because I was concerned about the slick straight look, he even straightened my hair in a way to leave a little volume. Todd was extremely knowledge and professional. He gave me tips on how to make it last longer. It typically lasts 1 month, but mine is at 2 and going strong! Two key points for me: price and availability. 1) The treatment was very reasonably priced considering how many people have told me they pay $400-500 for the treatment. 2) Todd's hours are very flexible so it allows me to come to the salon after I'm done at the office. I'm extremely loyal to the guy who cuts my hair, but I will continue to come back to Todd for the Keratin treatments. I'm hooked. read more

I was very surprised. I set an appointment, but had no expectations. I like to think I'm pretty low maintenance, and always figured I'd get the same "do" at Hair Cuttery than I would at any ritzy beauty salon. I was never even slightly satisfied with chain-salon results, and I didn't like feeling like I had to set aside twelve hours, and spend hundreds for a bang trim. I met my match. A place that doesn't use safety scissors to cut hair, and isn't an expensive day long beauty retreat. It's quick service, with quality results. From the minute I walked in, like a deer in headlights - obviously a new customer - the service was perfect. I usually dread having small talk with hair stylists, but both Caroline and Todd were professional and very personable. Conversation was effortless, humor was quick, and much hair styling knowledge was gained in my visit. I was in and out in forty minutes. A big PRO in my book. Overall, I can't complain about a single thing. I will definitely be back for some of the recommended treatments soon. WARNING: Does not take AMEX. :) read more
