I had a very disappointing experience at this salon. I asked for a few soft, warm face-framing highlights, but instead I received bright, icy blond streaks that were nothing like what I requested. My natural color was also lost because highlights were placed all over my head, even though I never asked for that. The final price ended up being 2.5 times higher than the original quote, without my consent. Throughout the appointment I didn't feel heard, understood, or that my hair and overall look were in safe hands. When I expressed my concerns, I was told that no stylist in this salon could properly correct the work and was offered an $85 refund to go fix it somewhere else. I declined, because it's not about the money - it's about professionalism, integrity, and delivering what the client asks for. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this salon based on my experience. read more

Anyway, for reasons that are inexplicable to most, including me, over a long career as a hair-possessor, knock on wood, I've gotten haircuts at some of top places in NYC, Chicago and Atlanta. I was recently in Miami for a modeling photo shoot (or not) and visited HK Salon based on its Yelp reviews and my out-of-control Jewfro. I was randomly foisted upon Joshua who proceeded to give my the best haircut of my life and a new style that matched the coolness I'd possess in some alternate reality. He took a long time working on all the details of the cut and it was obvious he takes a lot of pride in his work. He was also very personable and a pretty cool dude himself. Anyhow, it's hard to find hair reviews from guys so maybe my selfless act in posting this review will save the locks of some unkempt guy out there. I didn't have the best experience; I went on a referal from someone whose hair I loved. When I got to the salon I wasn't offered anything to drink or anywhere to sit so I just stood there for a few minutes waiting for my stylist. The assistant washed me and stylist cut my hair then said he was leaving and someone else would blow me out. I thought he'd come back to make sure I was happy and the cut was even ect but he never returned. I went to pay which in hindsight I wish I didn't because I found my cut to be uneven and had to go somewhere else and spend another $120 to fix. I will not go back. read more

I came to this salon for a bleach and tone. Unfortunately, my colorist was inexperienced either with my color or maybe she is just starting her career. I felt very uncomfortable because she was asking for advice from her colleagues, they would come to "check" on my hair and then would make snarky faces, and not interact with me at all. Not sure if they have a problem with my colorist or if they just don't know how to bleach and tone. I got out of this salon with yellow hair even though I did say and show exactly what I wanted. Yesterday was my second time getting keratin with the amazing Alexa!! I have very curly hair and usually cannot manage or deal with it- especially during the summmer. I went in for some layers and a bit of a trim (just for split ends) and I came out with so much more! I'm so beyond pleased! Pablo gave me great tips on how to care for my split ends, he moisturized my hair and added a slight hair brightening treatment. I just started going to this intimate and friendly salon in my neighborhood (Sunset Harbour) because my ALL-TIME FAVORITE hair stylist moved there. Jahzel has been giving me chic and sleek hair cuts for the last three years and I never leave disappointed but FRESH and FIERCE. She recently used me as a color model and I was thrilled with the results (color me impressed!) This is my first YELP review. Let me tell you something about this Salon. It is not a Salon, it is an ART STUDIO AND SPA. I have very curly, dry hair and have been to several salons across the East coast and HK Salon is by far the best. As I walk into this Salon I look at Pablo in the eyes and he already knows I am disappointed with my super long, tangled, dry like the Sahara desert hair. "Go to the back and get shampoo'd" he tells me. Shampooed... Great, some person is just going to irritate my scalp for 30 seconds. No, this woman, I need to get her name, LEGIT felt like she was using those metal hair massage things that look like spider legs for 10 minutes. I could've fallen asleep. It was, AMAZING. She was blessed with fairy soft fingers and nails. I don't know how to explain it. OK, so I show Pablo a photo from like 10 years ago on how I want my hair. He stairs at the pic, mirror, calculates, tells me to hold my mask with my hand and buzzes, cuts, chips away. I don't have my glasses on so I can't see in the mirror while he's cutting. I trust Pablo with my left nut so I know he won't screw up my hair. "Ok, put your glasses back on" it's like I traveled back in time, my hair, not only was it exactly like the picture but super soft like a baby horses tail soft. I asked him what the hell to put into my hair because the bottom of the barrel products that I use are not cutting it. Instead of upselling me with 100 products (which I probably would've bought) he just said, "use this, 4 sprays, after you shower and don't touch it". Well, it's been 3 weeks since my cut and my hair has NOT tangled, dried up and look like hay or feel like a tortoise's shell in the hot desert sun anymore. The people at HK Salon know what the hell they are doing, the place is nice, near all these shops to enjoy after you get your new hair HIGH and they give excellent service. I get my haircut about twice a year and HK is my go to, they don't charge $8000 and a liver to just cut your bangs and they have integrity. 10/10 if you see a bad review it's because of a drunk Karen or fake competitor review. 10/10 (I only go with Pablo, he is the Michelangelo of hair stylists.
