This company redeemed them self. They had a rep who said that he worked for them and did not fix my chimney flashing. Russ was incredibly responsive, They did my roof 18 months ago and did a great job but they did not fix the chimney flashing because his sales rep Greg did not include him on the issue. Once Russ found out he sent his foreman out and wrapped the chimney. They fixed the flashing and it looks great. They are a first class operation and the people he has working for him are courteous and very well mannered. DO not hesitate to use them. read more

My roof is finally beautiful. I had a fantastic experience with Greg and his staff at Northstar. First, when I contacted Northstar I had already signed a contract with the another company. After having second thoughts, I contacted Northstar to see if they would just give me a second opinion. I was pleasantly surprised that they would and I didn't have to be home for Greg to just come take a look. I had a complicated situation with having defective built-in gutters. The best solution was to have them removed, but the first bid from the other company would have added about $2000 to do it. Luckily I was able to get out of that contract and had Northstar do the work. They not only removed the built in gutters and replaced them with seamless ones, they also saved me about $4000 in the process. The project started and ended on time. As I suspected they would, the crew ran into problems with damaged beams and sheeting, but had them fixed with little effort and cost. Despite the fact my old roof had been off the night of that torrential rainstorm in June there was no problem. I really liked Greg's no-pressure attitude. He kept in touch during my decision and financing process and kept me informed of market changes and Northstar schedules. I would use Northstar again in a heartbeat. read more

North Star replaced our roof in the Mt. Baker neighborhood recently. Russ was extremely helpful and patient in helping us select a new roofing material. He also offered honest advice about which product would be the best value. His crew was very polite and conscientious. In addition to doing a great install they fixed other issues they found such as plugged or needing adjustment gutters. It was great to have him looking out for our other roof issues. I found North Star's reviews on yelp and decided to give them a call based on their 5-star rating. I have to say North Star is worth every single star. I would give them 6 stars if I could. The siding project on my house was slightly unusual and Russ and I were able to go over all the details in person and on the phone. He "got" right away what I was trying to have accomplished. Once his guys came out they were finished in two and a half days. They were uncomplicated to work with: they left the site spotless and they were a pleasure to talk to. They took great pride in their work and alerted me to potential problems with older repairs they found on the house. Their finished work looks beautiful. Northstar replaced our Ballard roof in the summer of 2016, and we couldn't be happier with the roof or the experience. They came in with the lowest bid of several companies from yelp, and Russ, the owner, even helped find ways to reduce the cost from their bid (I took on the risk of reusing vents and the like). They also gave us competitive pricing to level our porch posts and awning. After installing gutters on our 1960s ranch house, we noticed a couple of leaks. We gave him a ring, and he was on site the next day to find a solution. He covered the additional needed parts, since they were not in the original contract. I came to him with a project that North Star doesn't have a great deal of expertise with, and Russell not only returned my call on a weekend, but was honest about not having the right experience for my (rather unique) job and recommended a trusted colleague to go to instead. Then, even though he wasn't getting my business, he walked me through some of the considerations I would face and things I should look into to ensure the job was being done right. Had my roof replaced in 2011 but when it started leaking 2 years later they refused to honor the warranty.

I had a hidden gem of a mess under my shingles requiring an order of all new plywood. The same day we realized what was needed, they worked fast to procure the materials and get it on the roof before dark. Super thorough and professional. A fast team that cleaned up well after themselves. A fair price. And my new metal roof looks stellar. I will definitely be contacted these guys again for my future projects. I had already gotten 3 roofing quotes when I stumbled upon North Star via the Yelp reviews. I asked for a 4th quote and I'm so happy I did. From the start, the communication was excellent. Russ took the time to go over the options with us and guide us to choose the one that made the most sense to us and our budget. Of the 4 quotes, only one was cheaper. However, we had a bad feeling about that company and we were pleased that Russ was within spitting range of that lower quote. The crew that came out to do the work was respectful of our landscaping and property. They worked very hard and we believe did an excellent job. What makes North Star an exceptional company is that even after they were done and paid, when we contacted Russ and said that the ground floor bay window didn't look quite as good as we hoped, he was right on it. He agreed that while it was done correctly, it could have been made to look a little more aesthetically pleasing. And just like that, it was fixed. This wasn't just a sale for North Star, we are now a customer. We look forward to our next project with them. read more

Our experience with Russ Oja owner and North Star Construction has been great from start to finish. Our home's old original 1970's roof and skylight needed to be replaced. We tried referrals through friends but either the contractors didn't respond or they didn't commit to a start date. Then we found North Star Construction on YELP. Owner Russ Oja responded in a reasonable amount of time and came out himself to do the assessment. He followed through and sent a contract of the requested work to be approved or amended by us. After we signed, we received a hand written thank-you card from Russ, encouraging us to contact him at any time during the process. Russ sent a helpful email suggesting that we remove items from our walls that might get "rattled" by the roof repair and fall down. The work took 3.5 days, slightly less than predicted. The crew arrived on time each day and did not ring the doorbell to use the restroom. We worked directly with Russ who immediately and courteously responded to our numerous phone calls and questions. Russ came to the site every day, kept us updated and checked in with us about previously hidden conditions on the old roof that had the potential to add more cost, such as replacing the levels of rotted wood underneath. Overall the job cost slightly less than the proposal. After the job was completed Russ sent another thank-you card thanking us for the business.(!!) We highly recommend Russ Oja's courtesy, professionalism, expertise and the North Star Construction company. This company put the roof on before we moved in, after about 7 years we found out the hard way that flashing leading to my back kitchen window had been put on inproperley and leaked in between the wall for all 7 years causing 15000 dollars of rot and damage... When i contacted russ about it, his formen came out an said yep thats what happened and told Russ about it. I didnt hear back from russ as to what could happened . so i called him and He said that His laywer said he didnt have coverage for this and that the roofing industry was hard on him and he was closing his doors for good.... I wish these guys had someone to answer the phones. They did a great job for me in 2002. Now it's 12 years later and my roof is leaking. I called last night, late, not expecting someone to answer the phone but hoping that first thing in the morning someone would listen to my message and call me back. No call back. Called at 8:15. Voice mail. Called at 11:00. Voice mail. I understand they may be busy but sheesh a quick call to a customer who has water washing down the chimney on the inside of the house. A few years ago I had my roof replaced and it was noted that the siding on my chimney should be replaced. I had done my research and really looked around. I contacted a few companies and received bids from two. Having received Russ's bid first I actually canceled the second (guy still showed up and was a far cry from Russ). I could tell based on his follow up that he was a guy I wanted to work with before even getting the second bid. Considering myself handy I thought about doing the project myself. I decided this is work that I want to look professional might as well pay a professional. The guy that installed the siding was a true pro. He was hard working, clean, and a craftsman. The work site was spotless at the end of each day. The work exceeded my expectations and I am really picky. Overall, there was great communication, great work, and a really positive attitude. They even did a few things I didn't think of and used high quality material. If your looking for a company to do a service they provide I would highly recommend you give them a call and an opportunity to bid. I called several roofing companies to repair and treat my old cedar shake roof. One company (that was also highly ranked on Yelp) declined, instead stating I needed an entire new roof. Greg and NorthStar roofing said they would replace shingles as needed and treat the entire roof. They were great at trying to keep cost in line while also ensuring some areas that were "rough" were properly repaired. Costs were extremely reasonable and they didn't pressure you for anything. I'm astonished by the way the roofing project went. My experience with North Star far exceeded my expectations - from the estimate to the final touches. The quote provided was very competitive with the other companies, but North Star had an edge with other services available, such as pressure washing the perimeter of my house. The roofing crew were efficient - they finished the project in one day, just in time for that Seattle rain. I performed a walk through and couldn't find debris associated with the job. The person that performed the pressure washing of the perimeter was thorough, he got every nook and cranny. Now my humble abode looks amazing, not just because of the brand new roof, but with clean decks and sidings as well. The project remained on budget. Communication was top notch every step of the way. (Does Russ ever rest? Lol. The foreman, came out at the end of each day to make sure his crew was on schedule and communicating information to us. Craftsmanship was top notch. We had an unscrupulous contractor actually try to use Northstar's name on a roof repair! Needless to say, the repair was as false as the swindler peddling it. When we explained the situation to Russ he completely understood and put us right by repairing the roof! As I Realtor who's seen hundreds of moldy attics, I was very picky about a roofing contractor and saw how many of the top roofers in Seattle my neighbors were using were cutting corners on ventilation and quality materials. That is what set North Star apart! They have different pricing options, depending on your goals. For me, I wanted excellent venting and a quality long term roof for a home I would never plan to sell. A year and a half after installation, our tenants noted some mold inside the home, Russ emailed me back immediately and was at the house to inspect the next day. We confirmed the mold was from the tenants humidifier and the roof was indeed functioning perfectly. Russ spent a lot of time out of his day helping me assess something that didn't even have to do with his job. My husband agreed "he's the nicest guy on the planet!" We had several bids for our roofing and gutter project and North Star Construction was competitive. We chose them because they did not require a deposit until the materials were delivered and the project was started. Other large roofing companies wanted 50% up front and were scheduled out for months. Russ's crew worked long days (well into dark) to get the project complete and everything was tidy at the end of the day. My only disappointment was the size of the truck they used for haul away - it was small and they had to take it frequently. But, to their credit, our home is much larger than homes they've done in the past, so maybe in time, as they get larger homes, they can invest in a big trash hauler! Our roof took a few days longer than some of the larger companies, because of the smaller crew. But I believe in supporting the small business owner, so we were patient. We had an excellent experience replacing our roof in the Fall 2016. First of all, the bidding process was extremely easy. They came by when we were not home and then emailed us a detailed bid. We appreciated this after having a bad experience with Polar Bear Roofing, who spent 3 hours giving us a sales pitch on a weekday night despite broad hints that we needed to put our child to bed and then as they left said they were only half-way done! We decided on North Star based on their reasonable and detailed bid and their reviews on Yelp. They lived up to their reputation. Their crew was considerate and fast-working. Russ and his project manager Gilberto were easy to get a hold of with questions and very professional. A wind storm happened unexpectedly in the middle of the project so they very carefully put down tarp and then Gilberto came out every day through the stormy weather and the weekend to check on it. They had gotten a bit of the new roof down before the storm and we decided we didn't like the color. This created extra expense for us (be sure you like the color you pick!!) but Russ was helpful and professional about coordinating the return to the supply yard and selecting the new color. When everything was completed it looked beautiful and they thoroughly cleaned up our yard. We would hire them again; if they only did siding! read more
