Great Dancing & Awesome Whiskey Drinks! SITREP When tooling around the tri-casino-properties on a weekend, Novi is one of those great spots to jump into at the beginning of the night because it has an energetic dance environment, and nice libations to keep you and your friends happy! THE SETUP Right inside the El Dorado, Novi's decor is admittedly a notch or two ABOVE what you would expect from a place that is trying to put of the vibe of a "dive bar", but most certainly is NOT. * The furnishings are exquisite, with wood, granite and lighting giving off more of a club-vibe than anything. But that's okay! I know it's not quite "Whiskey Dicks" - and Novi is a bit pricier - but WTH, we're in Reno - not Lake Tahoe - so I enjoy what Novi brings here in "The Biggest Little City"! * Two bars grace this room with gold & red back-lighting and a mood vibe equal to many a speakeasy lounge. And these bars are manned (womanned?) with talented bartendresses that know how to make a stiff whiskey drink! * Drink specials during different times of the night - I didn't catch the ones I wanted, but no matter: she made me a $10 Whiskey Sour that was to die for! * The DJ was mixing it up between Top 40 and Newer Country, though there was definitely some old school Garth Brooks and Shania Twain being thrown into the Line-Dancing mix. THE LOWDOWN Novi is a fun stop. Either as a reprieve to escape from friends who only care about the craps tables, OR as a destination unto itself to enjoy and wile the wee hours away, dancing & drinking!

A mix of country music and hip hop - that's what Novi is. The old ghosts of Bubinga Nightclub still haunt this place. The bar in the VIP section and the bass-pounding speakers bring Reno natives back to an earlier time. Novi does a pretty good job bring two vastly different worlds together. I was a little thrown off when I sat down and started hearing modern hip hop and r and b music playing, as my friend had told me this club is a Country Western club. I had also been against going here up until now because Country Western music, complete with square dancing and the rest, isn't my thing. Novi takes that and meshes it together nicely with a great DJ, exquisite ambiance, and friendly bartenders making delicious drinks, to create a good time for anyone. Even if you don't know Country Western dance (Western Swing is big here), people watching in this club is very fun. And there's no cover! Any kind of casual dress is acceptable, but dress like a cowboy or cowgirl, if you have the boots, because you won't be out of place here in that attire. Friday is red cup night - you buy your red cup and first drink for $5, and all drinks through out the rest of the night are only $3. Nice way to get otherwise expensive drinks, like a Jack and coke, for cheap all night long. Overall, it's a great club, and one that I'll be visiting again.

20 dollar cover in NYE. Dead inside. Seems unethical to charge that much on a slow night 1/5 stars

Anyone can walk up to bar and order a drink u don't need to clear out the whole bar. People ask me can they get in I would say yes I don't need your security approaching. I pointed to the bar on camera and said there's plenty of spots to walk up. No one does this at bars. The less interactions your security has the better chance of not having issues. Such a dangerous place w this level of attitude. Just leave people alone. So bored have to harass people. Are your sells really that bad? Going off other peoples experiences u might want to acknowledge improvement and work on a friendly atmosphere that's safe. I am a single bachelor by myself of course I'm going to stand at the bar and wait for a women to approach or put herself in my area. A women isn't going to approach me at a table by myself. Then I got security approaching me when I'm trying to enjoy myself I have to stop drinking talk with them and the single women see me talking to security and will automatically think I'm a problem. So now your bar has lowered my value after I have spent my money and time to go there. You probably wouldn't allow me to take up a table by myself. Leave single bachelors alone. If someone is trying to order a drink fine bartender can speak up if the individual is unobservant. You are literally clearing out a bar w security. I wasn't with a large group solo Mr. Wallace! Your security approaching biggest guy in the bar. It's wild- watch video see how many drinks I'm ordering and tips I'm giving how I look and the way I'm dressed. How many people were there. It's not about being a jerk. I actually allowed people to order. I'm telling you it's wrong and as security expert you need to change your practices ! (866) 962-3707

You'll notice how well the acoustics sound inside upon your first visit. It's not the largest venue in Reno, but it still has a capacity of about 1,000. There is very limited seating in the back. Like most venues, there is no re-entry. Cargo does provide an outdoor smoking area. There is a separate room reserved for merch tables. Since it's crammed in a small room there are typically lines out the door. The venue itself is clean as are the restrooms. The bar is long and the bartenders are attentive and fast. You won't spend much time waiting for your drinks. Cargo has a good selection of beer/alcohol. They serve Tahoe Blue Vodka which has become popular in the area. I've noticed how attentive security is as well. Depending on the crowd, it's nice knowing they're aware of their surroundings and can react quickly.

Terrible acoustics- low end echo completely overwhelmed the show despite sound crew's attempts to compensate. Bad sight lines- just a flat concrete floor with no seating or rails.
