I came to see Empire of the Sun here and it was such an amazing show! Every seat is a great one, even on the sides. The audio quality is superb. We had another opportunity to watch a show at Grand Sierra's Grand Theater (Avatar the Last Airbender's 20th Anniversary Concert). Unlike the last time we saw this show at Grand Sierra, this visit went smoothly; most of the security just lingered in the shadows of the theater; barely seen and not heard. We thoroughly enjoyed the concert uninterrupted, bought way too much souvenirs, dined at one of the casino's restaurants and stayed in one of the rooms in the hotel. Today's annual show is "Santa Epic Holiday Show." Sadly, I did not get comped this year. Guess I am NOT losing enough $$. In the last two years, I received two free show tickets. But as a local I still qualify for the BOGO tickets; buy one get one free; or two tickets for the price of one ($30 for two tickets). Atmosphere - Almost all seats were good. The theater is in the Grand Sierra Resort, which is still my favorite resort, even without the comps. More and more events; see website. Service - Self service. Well the box office was good. They emailed GSR to see if I could get comped tickets. Sadly GSR said NO. And going through security was very smooth. Price - $30 for two tickets. Local promotion. Inexpensive show tickets. Owner Comment - Congrats to GSR success since 2006. Coming soon: A 10,000-seat arena that would become the new home of the University of Nevada men's basketball team. Absolutely amazing small venue. We went and saw E40 first. He put on an awesome show. Absolutely had a blast at the theatre. Then the next show we saw i won tickets to on Instagram for Cypress hill with Reno Philharmonic. That show was absolutely AMAZING!! Our seats were right in the middle. A little above the set up for the effects. Highly recommend seeing any show here. It makes it feel more personal because it only sits about 3000 people. Plus with certain shows you get a discount into the night club if you want to go there for the after party. read more

The venue itself is great - Staff is really great. Our seats were behind the sound guy and the manager came by and offered to move us closer to the stage until the opening act was over, and they could move the sound equipment. It was great that it was even offered. We saw a concert Friday and then Saturday. Great Sound, great acts. The Grand theatre is clean, with comfy seating (and drink holders) They have drink service throughout the set (unobtrusive) I like the booths with tables, but they must be even MORE expensive. Security was on top of it. They kept drunk people from being stupid and wouldn't let them stand in front of people who bought seats up front. (Thank you!) They have 2 bathrooms on either side (private) You can't go out once you're in. They have a nice beverage bar (they need red bull) and service was great. For the MM show we attended, the first seven rows of seats were removed making the area general admission standing-room-only (and unofficially the mosh pit.) My peeps who bought those tickets had the time of their lives. A few of us purchased the "first row" of actual seats, & at eight rows back, the view was spectacular. Manson's visuals were simple, but electric, his vocals on point (as was the set list), & the acoustics crisp. 12.24.23: For Christmas Eve, a friend and I went to Christmas in Space Cirque. I bought front row seats for a really great price and overall, it was worth it. I also included the in-theater bar/snack menu. As for the show itself, the main story line was a bit weak and confusing at times and I felt the music didn't always match the Christmas in "Space" theme. However, in general it was a great performance from beginning to end. All the performers are very talented and my favorite parts were the glow light show and the motorcycle act. Again for the price and it being Christmas Eve, it was a nice holiday out with my friend. read more

Date night at the grand Sierra! Went to chickie and Pete's for dinner and then went to a concert in the grand theater. We got there early as O don't like the Rush! The seats are comfortable. So if you want tickets for a popular show here, they are listed on Ticket masters with a hefty 'convenience' fee. So my wife just goes to the ticket counter at GSR to buy tickets. On a side not we watched Blues Traveller and Bighead Todd and the monsters. The blues traveler show was mediocre at best. However to my surprise big head Todd was just an amazing show. My wife and I used to listen to blues travelers when we were in college, and we look forward to them however the concert was quite disappointing. Had a great time at the Grand Theatre to see The Cult. It was our first time coming to the Grand Theatre. Got front row VIP tickets and well worth it. Looking behind us I can't imagine a bad seat in the house. The stage is HUGE and there is plenty of room in the seats for comfort. Also room between the aisles so you don't have to move too much to let people through. Got in early due to VIP and the ticket booth staff was very helpful. They do have all the dates/seating charts on the counter for future events so you can buy direct and save the online fees. Security was also helpful and polite. It was easy getting through check in, clear bag policy so you just need a quick walk through the sensor machine and into the lobby you go. Bar to the right is fully stocked, bar staff was fun and efficient. No food sold in the Theatre. Bathrooms were clean and stocked, attendant was close making sure it stayed clean. Just the nicest people working the event. The Theatre sits to the far right of the property, just past the Lex nightclub with a huge parking lot just outside of it. Self park so easy in and out. Well done for location. Cold Cave opened for The Cult, first time hearing of them, great music. the sound was great, stage sits up about 4ish feet from the floor so everyone can see. Great experience for our first time there and would be happy to come back for another event! read more

This is a great venue to see concerts. However, the size of the venue does make a difference of whether you are seeing the performance or in the performance. You get a great view from anywhere and the sound quality is great. The acoustics of this indoor venue does get loud so I don't forget the earplugs. The interior is beautifully decorated to accommodate a variety of acts. Only one location setup for merch which can jam up the entrance. A few bars setup with a few theater snacks available (minus the popcorn). On this night, I enjoyed a date night with the fabulous Diana Ross - The Music Legacy Tour 2023. Concert was superb as she walks you through her childhood to stardom. Old mixed with new, Motown mixed with jazz...it was over 90 minutes of music you can dance and sing to as you journey through the years with her. The production is well done with lots to see and entertain you throughout. Definitely a must see. read more

My wife and I came here with some friends for the Ice Cube concert last night and had a blast. Cube himself put on a great show, but I have to give kudos to the Grand Sierra for their theatre. Getting into the show was a breeze. They had these new and improved metal detectors that are far superior to any I've seen. We didn't need to empty our pockets or anything. We just walked straight through. Finding our seats was also simple. Directions to your section were laid out well and were easy to follow. Finding your row was also fairly simple, though it would've been nice if the letters on the side of the chairs were lit up as it was fairly dark in there. Bars and bathrooms were everywhere you looked so no matter how busy it was, it didn't seem like you would have to wait long. We were seated near the middle of the upper left mezzanine and despite that, still had a great view. Seems like this is one of those theaters that doesn't really have a "bad seat". The only negative mark I'll give is exiting was a bit of a sh*t show. At least from the left upper mezzanine. A duel stairwell would've been more appropriate for a more efficient exit for guests. Aside from that, it was a great experience. We're already looking to go back when Anthony Jeselnik is in town. read more

The sound quality is great in this place. The seats are comfortable and the theatre is kept nice. The drinks are expensive, but that's pretty standard. An intimate, classy, comfortable venue nestled in the GSR is home to all sorts of events. We saw Straight No Chaser here on Saturday evening and it did not disappoint. In fact, they allowed us to go through the security checkpoint a little early prior to "doors," which made the seating process easier for us having reserved seats. Drinks are available at the front and be prepared for an inflated cost for simple things like bottled water but the service is top notch to get it and anything else you desire. The seats were cushy for the tushy. The floors were clean. And the sound quality was perfect. For those in the mezzanine sections they had two screens with 4K quality projection giving various camera perspectives as well to enrich those experiences. Many shows are slated for the year. Maybe we will get the chance to see another show including when SNC returns! read more

This venue has excellent sound. There's not a bad seat in the house. I saw Tash Sultana here a few days ago, and it was amazing. I recommend wearing ear plugs, because it's nice and loud. A large beer is $16. They advertise food "open after the show", but their restaurants close before most night events are over. Either keep restaurants open longer or take those ads off the big screens. Usually there's no food available during the events at the Grand Theatre. Eat before you arrive. For some events they have servers taking drink orders, but that's mostly for the couch seats. read more

This was the first stop/concert on the girls weekend of country concerts. I was pleasantly surprised with this venue. As far as venues go, 5 stars. The level of service was wonderful/accommodating. Everything was clean, staff paid attention to detail. They had LOTS of bars throughout the venue so there weren't long lines at any given time. The restrooms didn't have long lines either! Much appreciated! We sat very close to the stage so I was concerned about volume, but it was the perfect amount of noise level for me. It appeared as though every seat in the house was a good one. I would definitely come back here for a concert, no doubt. Pro tip - Whatever drinks you have while you are waiting in line to get into the venue (even though you got them at GSR) they will make you chug (I learned the hard way) or throw out. And no one wants to throw out that $20 beverage. read more

The theater is a beautiful upgrade of the hotel. However, the bathroom situation is beyond ridiculous and unacceptable -- this needs to be re-evaluated. For the capacity the venue can hold, they only have 2 bathrooms available on the first floor, one on each side. Our show had a 20 minute intermission and I still wasn't able to go to the bathroom on time when the show started back. To make things worse, we were not allowed to re-enter if we leave the theater. Stood in line for half an hour to use the bathroom. read more

This theatre is a great venue to see a concert. We went to see a Mexican band and the acoustics were awesome. The seating arrangements in this place leaves no bad seat in the house. We got to sit in the VIP area and is definitely more intimate in that area. The stage is huge and I can see why they have many types of shows on the stage. This theater also brings in well known plays, artists and other performers. If you get a chance to see a show in this theater, you will not be disappointed. The best part is that there are options for things to do before and after the show so you don't have wait in the traffic to get out and you can get there early, have some drinks or a meal to enjoy before the show. read more

Diana Ross did an amazing performance at the Grand Sierra Theatre on Saturday, August 24, 2024. She sang beautifully, her accompaniment was great along with every member of her orchestra. I didn't realize her first born child, Rhonda Ross is a singer and song writer. She did a duet with her Mom on Saturday too - beautiful voice as well. I enjoy all of the members of her orchestra wearing nice suits, not hodgepodge clothing that a lot of bands and orchestras wear these days. Diana's 2 outfits were beautiful and looked very classy on her. She is 80 years old, but listening to her and seeing her you sure wouldn't know it. She performed nonstop with the exception of a few minutes to run to the dressing room and change her outfit. After the performance, she sat in a chair on the stage and asked if anyone had any questions for her, she would gladly answer them. I was surprised there weren't more questions. Very disappointed in the theatre in that I had a drink ticket that came with my show ticket and since I don't drink alcohol or sodas, all they had to offer me was an GSR water, which I can get for free in the casino all day and night. I was fortunate in that one of the Hosts was kind enough to find me some Fiji water. Other than my friends that were seated in the booth with me, the Ambience was terrible! I had to watch the entire show from the teleprompter since there were so many RUDE a** people that felt the need to stand up and block everyone's view while they decided to dance and flail their arms all around and be obnoxious! I don't understand why they have security in the event since security did absolutely nothing about the nonsense even after I complained. I wonder how they would feel if I jumped up and shook my not so small rear end in their faces as they did to us! We have enjoyed its clean, modern ambiance, and the service staff is always quite attentive and helpful. All the seats provide great views, but the sound can sometimes be a bit overbearing. Being a Reno local, I've attended many shows and concerts here. The first thing to know is that there's not a bad seat. The venue is small enough to still feel intimate yet big enough to bring big names. The one draw back I have noticed is that when big names do have a concert/show here, the ticket prices tend to be a bit higher. I'm guessing because they have to make up for the limited seating compared to a larger venue. Nonetheless that will not prevent me from getting tickets. Local tip: If you have the chance, purchase your tickets directly from the GSR box office because it saves you $ from online service fees. I hate paying extra for fees. read more

Gayle and I most thoroughly enjoyed the recent performance of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and the Steep Canyon Rangers last weekend at the Grand Theatre. I had no idea how big this place is, although the Disneyland-like line management to get in should have been my first clue. Leaving the Theatre was also a little slow (but hardly terrifying), as not all of the exits were fully utilized. The seats were comfortable, the acoustics were very good, and the supplemental TV screens helped with this top notch performance experience. We were seated in OL (Orchestra Left), which means that Gayle will be looking for more center seats the next time we're here. It was a little weird to be in a huge auditorium under an indoor mask mandate (with no social distancing), but it seemed to work for our fully vaccinated group. Since moving from the Bay Area last year and with all the varying COVID restrictions, finding cultural outlets has been a challenge. A marque show within a casino (South Lake, Reno, Boomtown, etc.) will most probably be a venue that we'll actively seek out in the future. read more

Came to see Steve Martin/Martin Short. I agree with another reviewer that it was large enough to feel like a real show experience but not so large that you couldn't see anything from afar. I am glad I didn't pay the hefty ticket price to be closer. The line to get in snaked around like a maze but moved quickly. They briefly did a purse check but no metal detectors. I had a bottled water and they don't let you bring anything in because they want you to pay a fortune inside. We were seated on the left side upper 1/3 and while there are arrows pointing you in the right direction, there is no staff to help you to your seat or keep the line moving. A bunch of us stood in a line forever only to discover it was the drink line! because the beginning was hidden behind a wall. I have never been to a venue like this where they did not have people direct you. Seating is comfortable although leg room is a challenge. The boucany has a glass barrier so for those afraid of heights, I would not choose this seating. Overall a nice venue for a casino and there really is no bad seat in the house. read more

This is about as good as it gets re indoor concert venues in Reno! I have seen many bands and performers here including Morrissey, Weezer, The Shins, Brian Wilson, Death Cab for Cutie, the Pixies and more- so I am surprised I haven't reviewed it before! Last night, I took my daughter here to see one of her faves, Carly Rae Jepsen. On the way home, we talked about why I would enjoy performing here if I was still playing in a band. Besides the ease of traveling in and out of Reno, the sound system usually has the mix just right between vocals, drums, bass, and guitar. I have been to other venues where too much of one thing can ruin the sound. You can also see that the performers can hear themselves - which is key. Also, most acts seem to enjoy making use of the great lighting features and background visuals. The stage is big, yet performers can get close to fans in front of the stage. As an attendee, we can enjoy all that the performers enjoy. Plus, we have the option to buy tickets for the standing room only section in front of the stage (my daughter's preference) or sit in comfy seats (usually my preference). There doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. They have several bars set up to purchase drinks - although they are pricey. Additionally, there are plenty of clean bathrooms and, usually, no lines to use them. No doubt, we will be back! Given the great conditions under which bands can perform, there should be plenty of more great acts coming to Reno - thanks to GSR! read more

A+ service from beginning to end! Everything was clearly marked for will-call ticket purchase VIP and etc. Even the line for security check ran smoothly. Instructions were given to me as I was entering the line to get my purse checked. Once I approached the young lady she was ready to go and took less than 10 seconds to check my purse but then again my purse is pretty empty!! Hahah, no money honey. Once I approach will call they ask for my identification. I simply headed there my ID he turned around and grab my tickets within seconds and instructed me where to go. They left very little room for error on my behalf. Once I arrive to my section they put on my wristband and gave me instructions again where to enter and where to exit. I've been to a couple of venues in Reno, but I'd have to say that the Grand Theatre is one of my favorites. On December 20th, 2018, I redeemed two complimentary tickets to see Holiday Dreams - A Spectacular Holiday Cirque. We arrived early to pick up our tickets at will call and mentioned that we had four people in our party. I asked if we could purchase two more tickets and if it was possible to have those two purchased tickets seated next to our complimentary tickets. The young lady helping us was very friendly and told us to hold on for just a moment. She returned and handed us four tickets and said, "Enjoy the show!" She basically gave us an extra two free tickets! We didn't even ask for it and so we really appreciated that kind gesture. Walking past the Will Call, there's a bar where you can order your refreshments. Our seat was upstairs and there were also two smaller bars, one located on both left and right sides. They're usually not nearly as crowded as the downstairs bar, so I recommend going to either bar upstairs. As we headed into the theatre for our seats, I noticed how big and open it was. I know this review is for the Grand Theatre, but I just wanted to say that Holiday Dreams - A Spectacular Holiday Cirque was a fantastic show, perfect for the holidays. Their act had some pretty big props and amazing talent. With the venue being so open and having such a large stage, I'd say everyone was able to enjoy and view the performances without any trouble. I'll be honest, I almost never take into account about the venue when it comes to shows or concerts. But knowing that GSR's Grand Theatre is such a clean and lovely venue, it just makes the shows That much more enjoyable. read more

Currently at the Michael Franti concert, and Citizen Cope is playing but the mixer on the soundboard must be deaf, because the bass is up so loud it's rattling our bones. EVERYONE is complaining, to the point where we've had to walk out to the lobby. They said they turned it down, nope, and unfortunately we can't enjoy the show! More.... Went to the GSR's grand theater to see the G3 concert. A MAY zing show, I won't miss it again. The only issue with this venue is the way they are trying to accommodate smokers. The smoking section is outside the restrooms, the main restrooms, the most obvious restrooms. You must wade through a smoky swamp of stinky foul cigarette stench just to get to the restroom. I think I counted 10 folks smoking. I wasn't the only one disgusted... I ran into another woman who was shaking her head and had her hand over her mouth.So they're making everyone else suffer through the Smoke Swamp for these few? There has to be a better solution. GSR, I hope you will really consider what you can do about this. Why not send smokers out into the casino with a hand stamp stamp for reentry? The air filtration system is better in the main casino than in the restroom hallway. And I don't want to hear any comments from smokers about fairness. I used to smoke.
