We went to see Justin at the comedy club he is a magician and comedian. I have to say we had Such an amazing time. When you walk up to the cold dome shape of the building you turn to the left and there's a set of stairs leading down to the comedy club, I have to say when I was going down the stairs I was a little scared for my life. However, I will say it's definitely worth the risk. Once you go into the comedy club directly in front of you you'll see a bar that also has snacks and the lady who is serving the drinks was absolutely amazing! Now I feel I have to preface this by saying we went to a kids show. The bartender was making Shirley temples for the kids and she was an absolute delight to them. She made it very fun and interactive and beyond that she's really nice to all the adults as well. When you walk into the actual club the atmosphere is very old Hollywood. Sure, it could use a little bit of updating, however I think it was A great way to spend the afternoon. This place is awesome. We were greatly nicely by the manager and felt welcomed. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have a nice selection to pick from. Bathrooms are clean. The comedy was excellent and appropriate for the audience. The price to get in is a bargain and would come here rather than go to a movie as this was much more entertaining. What a great way to spend an evening! I have been here a few times now. I've had dates here, gone in small groups and even brought my whole office on occasion! Even when a comic isn't the greatest, the fat that they have several acts means someone almost always resonates with you. The setting is intimate and allows you to really become part of the show. The comics usually interact well with the crowd too making it even more fun. The drinks are fairly priced too, though I don't usually like to leave a tab open after one night I'm pretty sure I paid for other people's drinks too. Nick Larson was the last show we saw and he was hilarious. I'd recommend him to others. If you haven't gone, make it a point to head here for a fun evening. The location it really only obvious after you try to open the doors to the pioneer center, but there is a stairway to the basement?... and that is where the fun begins. It has moody lighting, a check in/merchandise table and a alcohol/snack bar downstairs. The drinks are reasonably priced and cleverly named. (I'm pregnant so I'm not sure about their taste or potency). We snagged a table right up front for the festivities. The stage is simple, sound quality was good and the comedians were hilarious! All very different but equally as clever. The jokes were not distasteful but probably not suitable for those under 16. The "intermission" was too long and I wish they had heartier snacks (they had snack size bags of chips and cookies, but I would have killed for a popcorn or pretzel with cheese). Ok. Now I know I better not try and "Review" a place with a few drinks on board and my iPhone in my hand. What a crappy review. So here is a new one. We have been to a number of shows put on by Reno-Tahoe Comedy. Justin Rupple was the best of the shows we have seen. Funny club comic that knows how to work a crowd. The shows are all run pretty well, think locally run though. Not all slick and smoothly ran. In fact last night they had a "Bachelor" back out at the last minute and someone from the audience stepped up. It made for a great show, but might seem a little hokey to some. I love the home grown feel of the place. Rubbin elbows with funny people and passionate people makes me feel more connected to the community and the people in it. The space they use at the Pioneer Underground is cool. Everyone can see and there is even a small row of "comedy show" tables as well. The bar prices are good, I just never seem to have an alcohol appetite when I am catching a show at the Underground. I did love how they bumped a handful of loud girls talking back to the comedian last night. They wouldn't shut up and the house was on it pretty quick. They still wouldn't shut up so they were asked to leave. So many people come to these shows expecting it to be about them. Good on Reno Tahoe Comedy for knowing where to draw the line and holding that line. If you aren't a stair person, you may want to check ahead of time by calling someone because it seems the only way in is down a huge set of stairs. All in all, friendly local people running this and giving us some good flavor to our nights in downtown Reno. I will be back often. read more

And we have been enjoying all different comics and shows for years - they've even expanded to bring shows down to Carson City recently. This is a fantastic venue to showcase all the hilarious talent downstairs in the Pioneer Underground, there's not a bad seat in the house with friendly bartenders that tempt you with perfect libations named for the hilarity of the night and p.s. what a plus to not have that pesky 2 drink minimum. Great evening with my fiancé for some comedy, not that I don't give her enough...we went to Steve Hytner. Steve might be best known for his role on the sitcom, "Seinfeld" as Kenny Bania. Steve had the entire show laughing historically through the the full duration of his stencil comedy act. The atmosphere was lively and full of comedic talent. Being our first time, I did not realize that all the people working in the front of the house, operated every aspect of the show! I will definitely go back for another fun time! 5 stars! read more

OMG - its been a minute since I have been to a comedy show and I so totally L.O.V.E comedy shows. My boyfriend suggested that we go to one on a whim because a guy he'd seen before was performing. A+++ idea babe. I've always been a fan of the venue. I have been to a few other types of shows including talent and pageants here before but this was the first one where the bar was open. So.......I'd give The Underground a 5 anyways but the comedy and the staff of the show and venue is what prompted me to write this review - therefore, I am posting it here instead of on the Underground review page. Let me tell you something - if you hit this place up you HAVE to partake in the Tokyo Tea. Have two of them and then Uber it home. Drinks are moderately priced - I believe $5 for a regular beer and $10 for the Tokyo and other Teas. Nothing to expensive for going out on the town. The staff was really great and what's awesome about it is that they actually almost all performed in the show - even the bartender. Everyone was super funny and took pics with us after the show AND my boyfriend won the Facebook check in contest so we got free tickets to another show! Whoot whoot! It's hard to find fault in a spot that gives new comics a stage to try material and push the boundaries. The hardest part about the club is they are competing for market share against laugh factory and its definitely more gritty/unpolished compared to other clubs. That's also what makes it great! Comedy isnt supposed to be a to z formula or defined, it's an art. This club is a cauldron of art and pushing the truths about what comedy is and isnt. Give it a shot on a random weekend night. Perfect place to enjoy a night out in the town! I've been to comedy shows on Friday and Saturday night. The price is reasonable, there's a bar, and I'm always guaranteed laughter. I definitely recommend checking this place out! ENTRANCE: It has a cool entrance in front of the Pioneer Center, leading to the underground venue. PARKING: Can be very dark at night due to lack of lighting, and usually the parking lot is full (occupies about 30 cars, give or take) so you might find yourself parking on the street. Super funny comedians at a reasonable price. This venue is inside of a casino which made it a little hard to get to but it was worth the trouble. 2 of the comedians were from two areas that I had lived in which is what got us curios to see them. I have been to Reno-Tahoe Comedy Club twice and have enjoyed both experiences. The drinks are very good. The bar has many signature drinks, I recommend the surfer on acid and the thin mint. I like that there is no drink minimum as with other comedy clubs I've been to. All of the staff is extremely friendly from the security guard to the bar staff. The comics do a good job of engaging the audience throughout the show. They have free ticket giveaways each show. The bathrooms are a little far from the main seating area, which could be an issue for some. The seats are comfortable. It's well maintained, but a little dated. I will definitely go back. read more

Then I highly recommend you come check out the Utility Players, an improvisational group that will bust you up. There is some really great talent here, and I was pleasantly impressed. They used a format similar to that of "Whose Line is it Anyway?", including audience participation. They are quick witted, original, creative, entertaining, and yes, even funny. I think of myself as a tough audience, too, and there were no disappointing moments at this show. This is definitely an adult show, so leave the kids at home, grab some friends and enjoy a happy hour. Then come down to the Pioneer Underground for some drinks and laughs and have a great time! Hands down, best date night ever! And here I thought laugh factory had that comedy scene on lock...We went last night to see Craig Conant, who has got to be one of the funniest guys ever! I'd say what surprised me the most were all the openers, in my past comedy club experiences I was typically a tad underwhelmed by the openers, but these guys (and gals) were hilarious, and I got a birthday striptease from one of the comedians, Sammy Solorio, which was a definite highlight, lol!! The venue itself sits under the pioneer center, and gives off that old school theater vibe. The seats are older, but super comfy with drink holders (a huge bonus in my book) and honestly I don't believe there's a bad seat in the house. Everyone there is so friendly and works super hard to keep things running smoothly! They have a pretty decent list of liquors, drink specials, beers and wine as well as a few snacks and candy bar options. I've never waited more than a couple minutes in line to be served, and the bartenders are great at suggestions if you're just not sure what to get. There is also someone that goes around and takes drink orders throughout the show...now that's service!! I would have to say that this has to be my new favorite date night spot, and I can't wait to go back! read more

My girlfriends and I went to see Justin Rupple at the Pioneer Underground Reno-Tahoe Comedy club a couple days ago and I have never, never ever laughed so hard in all my life. But this is supposed to be a review of the club and not the act, I suppose. Anyway all of the acts were funny, especially the local ones. The drinks are not too expensive and you can drink while you are watching the show. The people who work at the club are very nice and the bartender was as funny as the comedians. At least to me his was. In conclusion, I'd say if you're looking for a night of fun and laughter, give this place a look see. read more

Love this place!! I have been going here for over 10 years, it all started way back when they had a on going Magic show before it was known as Reno Tahoe Comedy. I would take my girls and now my girls are both in their 20's.... Yup, I am that old. I am signed up for the FREE birthday give away. So every year on my birthday I get two free tickets and get to pick my show and the show times I want to go to. This year was amazing... My girlfriend and I laughed the whole way through the second half. The later the show I would recommend children under 16 not come. They can get on a roll and talk about ALOT of adult content. This is just one of the LOCAL GEMS of Reno. A small underground theater gives it a personal feel. The chairs are comfy and rock. It also has a full bar that you can grab your drinks and take them in and watch the show. Plus, during the show the bartender walks around and will take more orders for more DRINKS. The bathrooms are behind all the seats and around the corner. This is the place to go and hide from the apocalypse :) Just joking but its a huge underground place. The only Con is the darn stairs... They are step but they do have a hand rail. (no elevator) So if you have a problem with stairs or walking be forewarned. I am sure if you call ahead they would come up with another entrance for you to come in. Just a suggestion. If you come to Reno this is the place to check out. read more

You never know if there are going to be good comedians or not. For us it has been 50/50. But for only $16/person, it's a cheap gamble. It's under the Pioneer Center so you have to take some steep stairs to get down to the club. Hating it for the ladies in heels and have been drinking. The club is not in very good condition, but I imagine unless they gain popularity, the budget is not that big for renovations. I can say the seats are pretty comfortable though. The tickets and drinks are reasonably priced and the staff is always very friendly. So wether the comedians are funny or not, its still a fun, cheap date night. read more

This is a difficult review, because there are two parts to it. The first one would be 1 star, and the second would be 5 stars, so sadly, I can only give it 3 stars. The good: The actual scheduled comedian was amazing, hilarious, included the crowd, and lots of laughter. The facility is not bad. Underground, no minimum for drinks, no maximum on drinks. Break between the intros and the headliner. The staff is extremely pleasant. The bad: The staff, who also are wannabe comedians, take control of the first hour with nothing but distasteful jokes, jokes I found to be both inappropriate, and not funny, in any way. I get it, you have to keep the doors open, people want opportunities, use who you have, and make it work, but... know your audience. If your audience is not laughing, there's a reason. Don't take insult, but instead, figure out what's wrong with your skit, and re-write it. read more

She thought I was kidnapping her and murdering her down in a basement. Silly woman. I wouldn't go to a Comedy show for that. Anyways. Fun times and personable seating. I went last Saturday night with a couple of friends. We had a great time!

My husband and I went on Thursday night, January 4th, looking forward to a fun night. I can honestly say it was almost torture. I suspected it was going to a bust when I looked around at show time and counted less than 50 people in the theatre, with 10 of them all apparently coming on the same bus from Sacramento with the comedians; so they had to bus in friends to the laugh at their jokes. The comedians were obviously just amateur hacks; no good jokes with poor delivery and horrible timing. After suffering through a whole string of them, we also had to watch a stripper who proudly noted it was her first night as a comedian, told a few sad jokes and then she pulled down the top of her dress and lit a candle on fire that was taped to her boob. Really?? Geez. The "headliner" act was the last act of the night, which was the only reason we stayed; thought he would be a show stopper. He was; he was as dry as Reno in August. We ended up leaving even before it was over. Don't waste you money. read more
