My first encounter with Northwest K9 Bed Bug Detectives was when I was calling around collecting information about my situation. Susan of NWK9 not only answered the phone but she also returned calls promptly and gave me options supported by industry accepted methodologies. I had a good feeling using her. The experience was great and her teams were clean, professional and respectful during my ordeal...She sent out her K9 team and in May and at that time the the dog found only 1 bedroom affected of the 7 rooms that are rented. The initial treatment was performed in early May and between then and August 4th no one had reported seeing any bed bugs or being bitten by anything. On August 4th Amy (see post on 8/5/2017) contacted me to tell me she saw a bed bug and I emailed Susan to let her know. Susan and I were in negotiations about whether or not there would be a fee for the dog to return to check the house. She wanted to confirm if Amy's room or any other rooms were affected. Amy and I were discussing who would be responsible for paying for future services when Amy took it upon herself to start emailing both Susan and I. 5-6 emails were sent out in succession and Susan emailed back letting us know she could not respond right away, because she was on her way to the hospital that afternoon and had to leave the office early. I received a call later that afternoon and she let me know she would contact me but not Amy since I was the customer and Owner of the property not her. Before she and I could talk Amy took it upon herself to write a 1-star review about Susan and her company. Susan and I spoke and I offered to email Yelp along with her to dispute the inaccurate information Amy posted and ask that the review be removed. Yelp has not responded to her or I so, I offered to write a review, because I felt it was important to share my experience with Susan and offer a rebuttal by stating the facts about my interactions with her. Susan not only kept her word about the cost she waived the fee for the dog to come back out. Normally, a 50% discount is offered for follow-up infestations and if a bug is found within the warranty period and presented to the company they will come out and re-treat for free. The K9 Team came back out today (8/8/2017) The results were that 3 of the 7 rooms in the home had a few bed bugs. In the room that was previously treated in May, 4 adults and a few eggs were found as well as 1 adult in the room next to it on the main floor of the home. 3 nymphs were found and fecal matter in Amy's room in an entirely different floor of the home on the other side of the house. Susan explained to me that due to the fact there so few bugs found including some on another floor all together (areas that were not infested when the dog came through in May) the new bugs were likely not related to the original problem in May. If they were the room that was treated would have a great deal more bugs and the room next to it would as well, because of how quickly the bugs populate after the first couple of weeks especially in the Summer they populate twice as fast as in the Winter. Between May and August we also have new tenants that moved in. I have learned it is not tenants do not usually intentionally infest places (unless they knowingly visit someone who they know is infested) Bed bugs are hitchhikers and people do not see them climb into bags or on them when they come home from somewhere. The epidemic is so bad that many places where multiple people gather can be infested without anyone knowing. It is often as simply of an issue as being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even though the current issue is probably not related to the one in May, when it comes to bed bugs there is no way to prove when they came into a home, so Susan has gone above and beyond she waived the fee for the dog to re-inspect the entire home and has offered to pay a substantial amount towards the amount of having another company to treat the house even though she is not legally obligated to do so. She has decided it is in the best interest for her company to discontinue any further services with me because of the actions and harm done to her by Amy by posting the 1-star review. It is my experience that Amy W jumps the gun, takes measures into her own hands without knowing the facts or consulting others. This is unfortunate and has caused others ill feelings and now has posted an undeserving review of Susan and her company, not to mention she should not have written a review since she was not the customer I own the property. Going forward I have no qualms about using Susan again for any of my properties. She has been a consummate professional and I believe puts her customers interest first. read more

I work with many low income folks who live in housing that can have issues with bedbugs. I had them come to check out my office to ensure we don't have any issues here from people who are living around them. Start to finish this process was super smooth from scheduling to the inspection. I am no expert but it is important to use a service with trained dogs because they can pick up on things better than humans alone. Their dogs were well behaved. Fast, friendly and affordable. Susan was wonderful!!! What I thought was just my mind getting the best of me, and perhaps just a flea problem (I have a big lab), turned out to be the very start to a few bed bugs ..enough to give me about 4-5 bites/nt. for a week. Susan called me back right away after calling early one morining. She walked me through all the steps and singling out anything else first. She was at my place by mid-afternoon. She spent a lot of time with me; first explaing about bed bugs, then showing me samples so I could identify, and how the dog would signal, etc. She even did a test demonstration for me first w/ her dog with pseudo-scent papers that smell like live bedbugs to show me how the dog will search, then signal. The dog seemed darn near dead-on. Because of Susan and her doggie the location of the bed bugs was found right away and treated as quickly and easily as possible. It was a hard thing to hear when Susan shared the bad news (that the dog had found some) but Susan was caring and calm with me as I had a few tears of fear. Susan is the first person I contacted when I suspected I had bed bugs. She emailed me a good amount of information, so that I could educate myself and not make the problem worse. Her schedule was full at the time so she recommended another detection dog who came and confirmed the presence. Then I needed help with pre-treatment work, and she gave me a referral to someone who specializes in that. She has been incredibly helpful. Due to HOA issues (which have nothing to do with Susan) I am using a different company for my bed bug problem. However, her advice and referrals were invaluable. read more

My daughters began to have bites show up last weekend which was very characteristic of bed bugs. I scoured the internet reading information on the bugs and trying to figure out what to do. I didn't know whether they were in my home or came from somewhere else. I came across Northwest K9 and thought I would give them a try before throwing money around guessing on solutions. I did not find any evidence myself, but would have their dogs sniff them out with more certainty. Ultimately, we didn't have the bugs and determined they came from a trip the previous weekend. Susan was great and definitely lived up to the other positive reviews that I read prior to giving her a call. She was able to get the dog/handler to our house on the same day as I called them. The handler(forgot her name!) and Pistol did a great job. The handler was very nice and helpful in answering any questions we had. The price to me was reasonable for the peace of mind that we weren't harboring any of those little vampires. Last note which another reviewer mentioned also was to not put down any other chemicals or powders down prior to the dog coming. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Susan and this company. My whole ordeal started at least 2 months ago. I started seeing bites on my feet, ankles, arms, hips, etc and was a bit in denial that I actually had a bug problem. I did my own investigation and couldn't find any evidence that I had a bed bug infestation. But the bites continued and I decided I needed to do something. Susan was quick to get back to me when I requested an appointment, walking me through the steps and provided materials on bed bugs and treatments. Even through a series of unfortunate events .... getting locked out of my apartment with Magic there and my landlord not answering for 30 minutes.. she kept true professionalism. Magic did end up signaling in my apartment and she talked me through my options. I trusted her expertise and basically just said "whatever you think I should do, do it." I had the place sprayed with cimi-shield and DE by her colleague James which took less that an hour. Even with this experience alone I would recommend this company. The evaluation and treatment of the apartment came to be about $400. But Susan is so wonderful that she continues to follow-up with you. I later came to find out that I may have a flea problem as well! You can imagine my dismay to think that I may have 2 pest problems! Even thought Susan isn't in the flea business she still told me her treatment recommendations and that they could come back and spray the place again if need be. I've seen less and less bites in the last few weeks and I thank Susan and Magic profusely for their expertise and service. If I ever have this issue again (hope to god not...) Perhaps the only bright spot in having bed bugs was getting to work with NWK9. Everyone I worked with at this company was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They took the time to explain all my options and even referred me to other companies they felt would be a cheaper option for me due to my location. They truly wanted to help me get rid of the infestation instead of just trying to make a few extra bucks off me. Susan followed up with me multiple times after the heat treatment to check in and make sure everything was still going ok. The technicians that worked on my house were very thorough and made every possible effort to protect my belongings from getting damaged by the heat. Choices are limited for bed bug infestation companys but I would not use NW K-9. I felt like Sue played on our families fears of bed bugs to necessitate more frequent trips to our house for treatment. She also tried to add a trip fee. Never in 25 years of owning And maintaining a house have I ever been assessed a trip fee. The supposed dog that can detect bed bugs is mysteriously never available . I can't say enough about how great my experience was with Northwest K9. Thorough Highly Skilled and Knowledgeable Employees Did Not Exploit Our Panic My husband and I had been getting a few bites nearly every night for a few weeks. After finally getting fed up with the constant itch, I did some online research and was horrified to see that the patterns were highly indicative of bed bugs. After searching our house high and low and finding nothing, and not being able to shed that awful creeping crawly feeling, I found several websites that discussed the benefits of using dogs to smell out the bugs. Not knowing who to call, I found Northwest K9 on Yelp. After reading all of the positive reviews I figured I'd give them a shot. I emailed Susan on New Years Day and much to my surprise she e-mailed me back within a few hours! She happened to be online catching up on some work - even on the holiday. Susan was able to squeeze me in the very next day. She was highly responsive throughout the entire experience. She called me the morning of the appointment to let me know what to expect and answer any questions. Krystyna and her dog Pistol called about 30 minutes before they arrived to see if it would be okay if they came a little early! (EARLY to a service appointment!) Krystyna and her dog did a very thorough search of the house and confirmed that there were no signs of bed bugs. However, she showed me a place on our bed that seemed to be covered in flea dirt and said fleas were likely our problem. While we have dogs, they had been staying elsewhere for the previous week (the time when most of the bites had occurred) so it didn't even occur to us that it might be fleas. We had just picked up the dogs the night before and one of them slept on our bed the night before Krystyna's visit. Sure enough, we checked the dogs and they were crawling with fleas. Thinking you have bed bugs can be incredibly distressing. Susan and her team were calm and reassuring and I knew we were in good hands. Give our state of panic and level of "grossed-out-ness" it would have been very easy to exploit our emotion and sell us all kinds of unnecessary treatments. Susan is amazing as is her dog Magic. I am a dermatologist and suspected we had bed bugs based on the bites, but we had no visible signs. So I called Susan and we went over possible timelines for infestation and her dog Magic came to our home and signaled that bed bugs were living in some cardboard under my daughter's bed. She was honest with her inspection and didn't oversell treatment of our home (which she could easily have done in our panicked state, I would have agreed to anything to get them out). She was prompt with answering our questions throughout the month long process and it only took two days to have the home inspected and treated- a must when these things are biting you! She was very knowledgable and discreet( their van is plain white) which was comforting. She followed up every few weeks after treatment to check in and make sure things were moving along as they should. Other exterminators I researched said you could see signs of bed bugs and if they had come to our house to inspect visually, would have missed the infestation which would have led to a longer period of enduring the bites as well as a more severe and costly problem. A few weeks ago my roommate began discovering little itchy bites all over her body. We soon uncovered the beginnings of what we believed to be a bed bug infestation in the corner of her mattress box. We went onto google and yelp to search for bed bug exterminators and came upon Northwest K9's Seattle. We called right away and spoke to Susan on the phone. Immediately, we knew we were in the right hands. She was filled with a wealth of information and came over for a consult with her dog Magic at our earliest convenience. Susan was not like most exterminators. She walked us through every step of the process and sent us research articles on the best solutions out there for treatment and prevention. When she arrived for the consultation, she showed us a demonstration of Magic's ability to find bed bugs, so we were confident he would do a thorough inspection...and he did. We have a three story house, with 7 bedrooms, and he searched through every one. He found exactly the spot where my roomate and I had found the bed bugs (as well as a few other spots as well). We discussed the best solution with Susan (we decided on a freezing process) and she walked us through the next steps we would need to take before the exterminator arrived. She arranged for the extermination within the next week and checked in with us regularly on how we were doing, providing us with tips along the way and answering ALL of our MANY questions. This is a very stressful process and Susan did everything in her power to relieve that stress and make us feel confident in our ability to get rid of the problem. Buyer Beware! We had K-9 come out to our condo to do the heat treatment. They get the rooms heated up to 140 deg. We followed their instructions for removing anything that could melt before they came. Unfortunately, there was no mention that the heat could open the seams on our vinyl floors, our laminate countertop and our vinyl shower surround. We spent $1400 on the heat treatment and have spent another $4000 to replace the shower surround before water got into the walls and the countertop. We also found black marks on our walls from the hoses. Communication with the men who did the heat treatment was tough. I asked them to do it from our balcony, but they ended up going up the side of the condo into our unit on the third story. They didn't call to say they were doing this or even to ask and as a result our neighbors has to deal with the noise for 8 hours. The bedbugs are still around and we are still trying to find ways to get rid of them. The owner did not call us after our treatment to check in and see how it went. She emailed my husband a month later and he was so mad at that point that he didn't respond. I understand that it is tough to get rid of bed bugs, but this complaint has more to do with the poor customer service than anything else. $1400 is a lot of money and when people are desperate they will do anything to make the problem go away.
