We had pesky ants start coming up from the cracks in our floorboards this past spring. I don't take any pleasure in writing this review as I considered Ulisis a friend. However, a recent exchange has me feeling like I need to share it with others so they can be fully informed. Punchline for those short on time; If you ask detailed questions about your invoice or service, namely how it's worded, be prepared to get dropped as a customer & disrespected. After a terrible experience with United Pest Control 6 years ago, I hired Ulisis to do a clean out in my crawl space & monthly service. For years now, I have paid for this service and been totally satisfied. I've referred him to several friends & associates. When Ulisis came out of the crawl space last visit, he said- everything looked good. (Meaning, no rats, no issues) Great! But when I received his invoice, I noticed it read 'the crawlspace seems to be rodent free at this moment'. Wait- you came out, minutes after the inspection & said it was good. But now you're suggesting it might not be? I was immediately unsettled & worried, so I texted him- it was a Friday. I let him know that the verbiage was not sitting well with me-- meaning I was uneasy & not clear what had changed, never seeing this type of language before. In hindsight, I should have used a different phrase bc that could be interpreted incorrectly. I then got a very short text back from him saying that he couldn't be in my home all the time and could not guarantee, etc. etc. I DO understand that there could be an entry at some point, but I felt I had every right to ask for clarification. Instead of clarification, he texted me that if I was unhappy with the service that we 'could just end things and move on'. I was taken aback- I was not unhappy with the service-- I simply wasn't clear why I was being sent 2 very different messages. The entire pest control experience from my past has made me extraordinarily nervous about protecting my home and understanding what is covered. Since texting can often cause misinterpretation, I reached out again on Monday to talk thru things by phone to avoid confusion & misunderstanding. He explained 'he got burned by another client'- so had to change the language. Ok, so why not just say that upfront?? Why take that out on me? I listened more to his explanation- and understood a little more--& then tried to explain my interpretation, especially given my past experience. Then I asked about making sure if there WAS an entry, that things would still be covered, as promised when I signed my contract years ago. There was a notable gap of silence, but then he ultimately said yes. Hmm. Then, he proceeded to patronize me saying that ever since the beginning, he didn't charge me as much as he could because he 'felt bad' about my experience with United. (Where he worked before) then he proceeded to tell me how my deck is the problem. (He said 'I've told you before & I'll tell you again') I am painfully & acutely aware my deck needs replacing- I don't need to be lectured about it ... I currently can't afford to replace it. I don't need to be spoken down to like that- namely after 6 years of service. Then he said, 'so I'm just gonna end your service'. Wait--what?? End my service because I've expressed concern & asked for clarification on invoice language?? Totally shocked & deeply hurt, I then asked about my boss's home- who I had referred him to. He replied he would end that service too. Wow. Just wow. I am still completely floored by this experience. Whatever happened to talking through things & helping your customers understand your changes in wording/policies? In that same, final conversation, he mentioned recently ending service for a couple going through a divorce too bc he didn't want to deal with that. Wow. I mean, really? Apparently, you need to have a perfect marriage, a perfect deck and not ask any questions about your bills to retain service. I'm still speechless & deeply hurt from this experience. Customers should be able to ask valid questions about the service they are paying for-- without retaliation. read more

I called Iliad last summer for a wasp nest in my siding, and the problem was gone in a week. I've had ants every summer, and so I called Iliad again. He came out in less than a week, sprayed, and took no payment. Instead, he said he'd be back in 2 weeks to make sure they were gone and to spray a 2nd time. Ulysses came to my house because a rodent could be heard in the walls. He set traps in the crawl space and checked the outside of my house to find where the access was. He gave me advice on sealing holes, and trimming back trees overhanging the roof, and placing a rock barrier along the base of the foundation, etc. He came back 5 times or more during the next month or two, but stuck to his original quote. He gave excellent advice, was easy to work with, and took care of the problem. He was very knowledgeable, took time to explain things, showed up when he said he would and very pleasant to work with. I used Iliad to take a look at and help get rid of some carpenter ants. They came by and took a thorough look at where I mentioned seeing them. They explained their treatment plan and cost up front and asked if that sounded good. When I agreed, they went ahead and did the treatment then. What was nice is that they did not expect payment until they came back to check two weeks later and confirm that the problem was taken care of. This really shows that they care about the results. I have a regular pest control company that addresses spiders, but recently had a really bad carpenter ant problem (like 50-100 ants a day) and our pest control company couldn't address it. I found Iliad Pest Management and they came out right away, found the colony in a tree at the edge of our property, sprayed the colony and our house, and told us to expect the ants to be gone in two weeks - which they finally were! They also explained why normal ant control doesn't work on carpenter ants (their keen senses) and what attracts them (rotted wood and aphids).
