The bed bug community could write folklore around this woman because they absolutely should be terrified. It's been a little over 4 years and a different apartment. I got some bites that worried me and I freaked out a little. NWK9BBD got a dog out to my apartment 24 hours after I contacted them! I know there are skeptical people that worry the dogs are just trained to say there are bed bugs but I'd like to post that we were just told we almost certainly do not. I know that it has been some time since the service, but I wanted to be able to give information on the full-service experience. A few weeks after moving into an apartment during a transition between houses, my wife and I started waking up most mornings with bites on our legs, arms, hands - skin exposed while we slept. I contacted the apt management company who had a large, national brand pest company inspect the unit. They found nothing! After a week or so of bites continuing, out of frustration I located NW K9 BBD on Yelp. Talking with Susan, she was tremendously knowledgeable and helpful. Based on the details discussed, she suspected bed bugs and we schedule an inspection for a few days later. I was surprised to learn they use a dog, Pistol, to confirm the existence of bed bugs. However, considering dogs are used to sniff out drugs, bombs and money, it makes sense. The day of the inspection, I was easily able to communicate and coordinate with Krystyna who came on-site along with her Beagle, Pistol. Krystyna was also very knowledgeable and professional. To provide Pistol a quiet environment, I left the apartment with our two dogs for 20 minutes. When I returned the team was finished and Krystyna lead me to the bedroom where the mattress and box spring were raised. Northwest K9 has saved my sanity - twice. When critters get into the attic and start scratching on the ceiling directly above your bedroom, there's no sleep until it's resolved. Susan had someone out to my house quickly, who crawled across the insanely tight attic and patched up the hole they found. Considering the guy the HOA sent just stood on top of the ladder, looked in the attic and said, "I can't help you..." About a year later, those little guys came back! No fault to NWK9 that they returned, determined roof rats can do incredible amounts of damage. Originally, I picked a big company to handle my bed bug situation (Orkin) and had a bad experience. They (Orkin) didn't show up, scheduled for a week away, didn't call the right number to let me know I could come back early, and they gave me a bad feeling in my stomach, and couldn't handle parking. So, I went to find a different company, and saw Northwest K9 Bed Bug Detectives crop up as a good solution. A small mom and pop like company, they seemed way more attentive to detail and got back to me on the phone immediately, even though it was almost closing. And, it turned out my condominium had also hired the same company to come and use their dog to make sure none of the common areas had any bugs. I got a heat treatment for my place, which is 570 square feet. It was more pricey than I'd hoped, (about $1900 with tax) but Northwest K9 Bed Bug Detectives were still WAY less expensive than what Orkin was charging by a whole grand (!)-- tho I still had to pay Orkin some of their fee, unfortunately, after the guy tried to bully and intimidate his way into keeping the job. But, even with me paying the other company, it was still cheaper than if I'd stayed with Orkin. They didn't charge me for coming to take a look at the place, and they were thorough in their inspection. You don't want to deal with one of the bigger companies; it's hit or miss and you can't get a customer service manager on the phone, all the phone lines send you some where else. You want a smaller company like Bed Bug Detectives where you know the owners name. Initially I assumed the opposite-- that a big company would make SURE to do a good job, sort of like going to Walgreens as opposed to a smaller. unknown pharmacy-- but I was totally wrong! The bigger companies subcontract out to people that they don't personally evaluate, and you never know who you're going to get. Susan emailed me back and forth to make sure the problem was taken care of, and two nice guys showed up to do the heat treatment plus some chemical stuff. They were conscientious, hard-working, and affable. A couple of things got melted in the process, but nothing important, just a socket cover and the top of the balcony blinds. They tried to put my clothes back where they found them, and while my place was in disarray when I got home, it could have been way worse. Bed Bugs Detectives were respectful when handling my stuff, and I have a lot of books, so they had to heat all those up or put them in a box for pesticide treatment. They had me remove some off the shelves so there was room. Orkin hadn't even mentioned removing books- got the feeling the other company would have just thrown stuff on the floor, not put it back. (I'm not even kidding..) I think it's important to have a company that's sensitive, capable, available for scheduling problems, flexible, and simply not trying to rip you off, especially when you're going through something as traumatizing as bed bugs, which pretty much wreaks havoc on your life. It's a kind of psychological warfare, so the last thing you need is a company that doesn't do their job properly! Lucky that I found this one. Susan even worked with me on scheduling, and had her guys come in on the weekend. They also seemed way more informed than the other company on bed bugs. I didn't really have many questions at this point, because I'd used them up on the other company, but I feel that if I had required a lot of assistance, or emailed a lot, they would have been helpful. I was glad that the other company had messed up, bcuz I felt in much better hands with BedBug Detectives. It's been roughly 2 weeks since the treatment, and I haven't gotten a single bite, or seen a single bug! Plus, that musty cardamom odor went away (sweet relief.) This is an excellent and professional business all the way. We have been having terrible bug bites for about a year and treating it like bed bugs though we couldn't produce any evidence. Finally frustrated we called NW K9 BBD. They were one of several we called; the others were high pressure and promising the moon while Susan at NW K9 BBD didn't give us any illusions or pressure, just straight talk. After checking reviews I realized there was only one way to go. Christine showed up for a canine inspection and found that we actually don't even have bed bugs, thank God! She was extremely knowledgeable and confidence inspiring. I had zero doubt about her ability and final determination. She suggested perhaps rodent mites and based on that I was able to figure out that rodent mites were coming in under the baseboard by our fridge. The house is a rental and run down and invaded by mice in the walls. What I thought was just dirt was actually the tiny mites; nothing some bleach, caulk and rodent poison won't get rid of. Now we finally know what's been plaguing us and are on the road to getting our sanity back. We should have called NW K9 BBD first but hindsight is 20/20. Don't suffer thinking you can do it all yourself. We would have saved a lot of money (at least $1,000 wasted on a steam cleaner and different pesticides, etc.) and time calling them first; our final bill for the K9 inspection was $255, a bargain. BTW, I have no doubt whatsoever had we gone with that first high pressure company I spoke with they would have come out, said we have bed bugs, sprayed some stuff around and charged us $1700. Wife brought home some bedbugs from a 4 star hotel....never know when you are going to get these suckers! Did a bunch of research on local companies and decided to go with NW K9 because I think the big propane heaters they use have a better reputation then the electric powered ones that are out there. I think we caught the infestation pretty early but we were not really in the position to try and fight them ourselves....could have gone on forever. NW K9 gave a competitive quote and did everything they said they would do. We did miss 1 fake candle in our house that melted all over a dresser which was a pain to clean up but caused no damage. Would have been nice if their team had caught this but no blood, no foul. Had this done in January of 2017 and I waited to write the review because I wanted to make sure the bedbugs were gone. If they are confident in their product I think they should extend their warranty to 60 - 90 days instead of 45. Overall, I hated doing this because it is not cheap but I had to get it done and their process worked. We are bedbug free.
