Very rude workers inside. My wife and I were craving a cupcake and stumbled into this place thinking we had found a match. Unfortunately, no cupcakes. But that's, ok. What really makes this place earn a 1 star is because we weren't greeted when walking in and after my wife kindly asked if they had cupcakes a prude worker replied with a snarky attitude, "we only have what you see." You would think that being the place was empty that a suggestion would have been made and a more friendly reply, we ultimately wanted something sweet but this place was no help at all. read more

I was walking aimlessly with my fellow yelper, Angie C. around the Bedford Ave area and found this amazing bakery with incredibly delicious chocolate wafers. It's not your typical wafers that have 2 layers but this one has 4! It's not crispy but chewy, which adds an interesting texture and flavor to it. It's not too sweet either which makes me less guilty for eating 2 or 3 blocks of it. I also bought their valentine day special cupcake and it's the size of what you would find at Crumbs except much cheaper. It appears to be a very popular place among the locals and would definitely come back and try their bread. read more

What is it with me and bakeries? In my quest to visit every bakery and consume all their delights, I have popped into Northside Bakery on more than one occasion. This is certainly not a bakery in which you wish to linger - if you are looking for the alluring smell of freshly baked bread and a welcoming staff, do yourself a favor and seek refuge elsewhere (pro tip: Bakeri is not very far away). This naturally leads to the appeal of this Polish bakery - it is cheap. Incredibly cheap. In fact, I think this is precisely what Jesus had in mind when he did that brilliant bread multiplication trick - 5 loaves of bread at any other establishment are almost equal to 5,000 at Northside Bakery. Parables aside, however, what one gains in quantity, one certainly loses in quality. The bread tastes store bought and certainly lacks the feeling of a hearty artisanal loaf that one expects from a bakery in Williamsburg (or anywhere for that matter). At best, I would designate the store as a purveyor of bread in its most generic form. The service is also highly dependent on the traffic in the store - while the staff can be perfectly friendly during quiet times, prepare to have someone yell, "Yes?!" with overtones of utter disdain during busier hours. As noted earlier, it is not the most welcoming of environments. The good bakery also sells pastries and is listed under the doughnuts category on Yelp. It is probably safe to say that no sane person would choose a doughnut from Northside over the quality fare - at the same price - offered at Peter Pan Bakery, for example. The doughnuts at Northside contain some ambiguously sweet sludge that comes in a choice of "custard" or "jelly," though these items usually make the briefest of guest appearances in the doughnuts and the taste is nothing short of perplexing. Following the sweet theme, they also sell poppy seed-related pastries, which are somewhat more satisfying, though certainly not worthy of a special trip. While the bakery also serves hot meals, I have yet to indulge in one as they certainly don't look that appetizing, though one cannot judge food on appearance alone. Conclusion: If you wish to stock up on your supply of bread for the year, this is the place in which to do it. Furthermore, if you're not looking for anything fancier than what you would obtain at the local grocery store, this is a reasonable alternative. However, if you're interested in procuring bread that will complement whatever you're serving it with, best you journey elsewhere. read more

Simply the best desserts I have had in the city. The Napoleon was done well and had the perfect balance of crust, powdered sugar and of course cream. A great balance and not overly sweet. I would highly recommend this place as a must stop bakery in Williamsburg. I would also recommend making the trip out of the city to experience this great find. read more

So this looks to be like "the" local Polish hangout. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and there was a steady consistent line of customers buying their goods. Their display case was kind of empty but that must be a very good sign as to their quality. Service is quick and to the point and I was surprised they accept credit cards. In addition to their sweets, they have a pretty large selection of breads as well. I only ordered their chocolate wafers and for half a pound it was $3.00. Tasty yes, but I always expect wafers to be crispy but these sadly were not. Still good though and being the bakery fan that I am, I would definitely head back to this one to try more items if I were to ever leave Astoria/Manhattan. read more

being a jewish person visiting The Northside of Williamsburg on friday night, after the hasids are shack up for shabbos, and in need of a challah, i was surprised to find so many bakeries to be devoid of challahs. I'm in love, and it happened so fast! I'd been eyeing this place for a while, finally went in for a stuffed cabbage and beet salad, a nice healthy meal for under $5! The place was crowded, and it's no exaggeration to say I was the only person there who couldn't speak Polish. There's only enough seating for about five people, so I had to squeeze into the corner to eat, but it was really good. Followed it up with a fresh chocolate eclair, and bought a nice loaf of "Healthy" bread to take home. They have very few savory items, so I won't be having many dinners there, but will definitely pick up a lot of breads and other baked goods to eat later. read more

I loved there perogi and fresh bread friendly and pretty reasonable in prices but recent city violated them for multi violations and will return when they get the violations resolved otherwise I love this place read more

I popped in this place on a whim. I got the chicken soup which was good and a chocolate layer cake which was good. I was anticipating the bill to be around $7-10 but to my surprise $4!!! Everything was GOOD not great. Simply good. Nothing overly amazing. This place is good I will def come back. read more

The Seven Grain bread was fresh and amazingly tasty. And only $3. The pastries not overly sweet, but large and flaky - delicious.

White rye bread was soft and tastes great toasted with butter. And at less than $3 for a huge loaf, it was a good price. The cream puffs are gigantic and there is tart cherry filling buried inside- delicious! Service was prompt and helpful, but not welcoming and no smiles. Love love love their pierogi's- potato and cheese is the way to go. Mushroom and sauerkraut are ok. Have also tried the tiramisu and cappacino dessert cake - very very good! They get 4 instead of 5 is because they always seem to "run out" or only have certain things on certain days. Also have tried pre-ordering their pierogi's in bulk (they are that good!) but they are very unorganized and could be better with their service. Have yet to try the fresh baked breads but they look great. Def worth it to stop by and pick some goodies up to go. read more

In general polish food and polish bakery has been always really good and family oriented. This small bakery family owned and with the traditional polish flavors and warm welcome is luckily in my residential area. the daily fresh bread and deserts and the homemade lunch plates. mmmhhh delicious . prices are so fair. I have been going to Northside Bakery for the past 3 years and all can say is YUMM!!!!! The pastries are wonderful and the breads are always fresh. They are open 7 days a week and each cashier is always is eager to provide you with the bread you crave. My favorite bread is the Cranberry raisin walnut bread it can be eaten whole. I have been to several bakeries and I could not find this type of bread it is filled with cranberries and they don't cut anything short. Keep up the good work! read more

This bakery is located near my workplace. I go there on a daily basis for coffee, pastries, bread and their polish catering service. They are an amazing resource! Of course, it is pretty different from everything you can find in the gentrified neighborhood, from the service to the price. If you are not familiar with the place you may get confused with the variety of unidentified baked goods, there are no prices up and you are given little time to make up your mind given the usual line at the counter. The service is basic, but the girls are starting to recognize me and as in many polish places I appreciate their honesty: good product, good price, no frills. I would say in order of preference: bread, cakes, catering (on the greasy side). I am glad there are still places that feel personable, with coffee well under $3. Thank you Northside! read more

Bakery girls are rude in a very humorous way; once I engaged them, they were fine. I'd pass on the croissant, and the peach muffins are fine.. but the real gems here are the kolaczkis. I may be biased because they remind me of holidays from my childhood, but my roommates also agreed. They have good bread and delicious donuts, but honestly the service sucks! I used to go there every day before work, but had to stop because I could not stand the girls working there. Especially one of them: kind of pretty, toll, with dark hair is really MEAN. I kinda see that all polish girls have that hmm... flavour (???).
