But this review is about something bigger than dessert. The strawberry cheesecake here reminds me of my mom. It was her favorite, and it was one of the last desserts I got to share with her. Anytime she wanted a sweet treat, that's what she asked for. Ordering it now keeps me connected to her. This past July, on her 3rd birthday in heaven, I placed an order to celebrate her. The menu only had cherry cheesecake that day, so I wrote a note explaining what the strawberry meant to me. The staff didn't just make it happen, they sent an extra slice of strawberry cheesecake on top of it. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. The people here have always been this kind. We love everyone who works there, and we're grateful for the small moments of care they've shown our family. Thank you for everything.

There's a full menu of coffee beverage options to choose from and a pastry to pair it with. There are also a variety of decorative cupcakes to choose from as well. I instantly noticed the Knicks championship cupcakes when I walked in. The establishment is relatively small but you can tell that they get great business here. The staff members who I engaged with were pretty nice as well.

Still worth it for the pastries and the sit-in service but the to-go counter needs some attention.

I come here time to time after eating at Frankel's down the block but otherwise it's not the easiest place to get to. Northside Bakery is more than just a bakery. They also serve hot polish foods by the pound which are delicious and shouldn't be overlooked! My favorite is their chicken noodle soup which has carrots, noodles and parsley. Since they add these into the broth when you order, each bowl gets the same amount of stuff inside. Inconsistent amounts of food in my soup are one of my pet peeves. You can also ask to leave things out if you don't like it (I hate parsley). The chicken broth is so amazingly satisfying. If you have a cold or feel under the weather, come and get yourself a large soup asap! On any given weekend afternoon, the place is sparsely filled which makes it easy to get a table. You have the option to stay and eat where they give you real cutlery like a restaurant. I usually do to go since I'm already full but to stay looks like a good option if you're looking for a polish meal where you can try many different things at once. They also have a beautiful display of cakes which I haven't tried yet. Wish they would put a little name or description under each one for people like me. I need to go back soon but on an empty stomach so I can try more stuff! read more

Great bread and pastry selection. I love the traditional european way of baking at this place. The paczkis, the cheese babka and piernik are my favorite here. Also the seven grain bread is a must for all the healthy eaters out there. I highly recommend this place, Polish people really know how to make great food :) read more

Standouts are the cherry, and poppy cheesecakes, coffee cake, and fruit/apricot filled rugaliky ( rugelach), apple cake and of course the babkas and assorted Polish cookies ( chocolate, poppy, linzer). If you see the potato babkas grab it! They only make it occasionally and it is savory with shredded potatoes, onions and bacon bits. I am not kidding, prices here are less than half what all those crummy commercial New Brooklyn cafés now charge. I stop here on the way to my Moms out on Long Island or The City and bring cookies and cakes for our office parties. My mom and employees are very pleased and ask "where did you get this?" Don't be a New Brooklyn Gentrifying tool. Support these independently owned old Brooklyn Ethnic neighborhood places before they are all gone.

It has their nice logo label with the list of ingredients and that's where I was shocked. Artificial butter flavor. Artificial? Not real butter? Yellow food coloring, FD&C yellow #5, FD&C yellow #6 and #40. This is the same as buying one at the supermarket. The reason they have so many ingredients in supermarket bread is for a longer shelf life. A fresh baked bread only lasts for a couple of days, which is fine because the quality and taste is better than store bought bread. The beauty of getting fresh bread from a bakery is that bread should only have a few simple ingredients, which is not only healthier, but also tastier. There were many other breads that were freshly baked without being pre-packaged, so if I'm in the area again, I will give it another try. If it's as good as people say, I will change my review. But, judging by the challah, I have to give my honest opinion of the bread I bought. Also, what's the deal with the huge sign telling you not to take any photos? Are they under FBI investigation?
