Some of the best mandarin chicken I've had! The sauce is thick, yummy, and comforting. White meat is no extra charge. You can sub the wontons that come with it for extra fried rice for an up charge. The rice has a delicious wok taste. My boyfriend got the lemon chicken which was subtle but good. There wasn't a super strong lemon flavor which I'm grateful for. The sauce was nice and thick and was a perfect balance for the chicken. Their presentation is beautiful. Prices are affordable. They were very busy but service didn't suffer. Love the inside. It's quiet but has nice decor. I'll be back to discover more. read more

Northshore doesn't have a ton of sit down restaurant options for Chinese, but Northshore Empress is a solid option. We got the Empress chicken and Sweet&Sour chicken. Each came with shrimp fried rice and wontons. Plenty of food as you can see! Chicken was white meat, and good quality. The shrimp fried rice was super good! Staff was super friendly and fast. Absolutely the BEST hot sour soup I've ever had in my life!! Hot sour soup has always been my measuring stick for Chinese restaurants and this one tops my list. EVER!! It's meaty and sweet and sour and packed full of veg and the broth is a sheer perfection of balance of hot 'n sour with a touch of unique sweetness. I will definitely be trekking there just to make a meal of that soup!!! And yes the rest of our meal was just as tasty. read more

Decent food but just absolutely horrendous service gets this place a 2 star. Called on a Tuesday night to place a to-go order. Phone rang 10 times then someone picked up the phone, hung it up and took it off so I only received a busy signal for the next 12 minutes. By the time my call actually went through to a live human being they said "hold on" and I could tell just placed the phone down for 3 minutes. If you want better food for slightly more cost trey the more famous place down the road and if u want cheaper food with better service try the place by Walmart 2 blocks down. read more

Their food is delicious, always fresh, served hot and appetizing. The staff is very friendly. I have never had anything here that I didn't like. Their Pho is delicious too, especially on a cold day like today. Spring rolls, egg rolls, other appetizers all fantastic!! All their dinners I have tried were excellent! We went last night as a family, my husband and I and our 3 children. The food was okay, at best. The egg rolls were 95% cabbage. The menu said there was meat in there, but I didn't taste any. The fried rice was bland and the batter on my fried chicken was very thick. My daughter has ordered a bottle of sweet tea, so the waitress brought her a cup of ice to pour it into. When she had finished her tea, she asked for a water. The waitress brought a pitcher and said "it's fine to pour in here", while trying to pour it into the cup she had used for her tea. My 11-year-old looked over to me, not knowing how to answer that without being rude, but I knew she didn't want to drink tea-water. I politely asked for a fresh cup of water. I just feel like that's laziness. The restaurant was mostly empty on a Tuesday evening, it's not like they were so busy. Then, when we got the bill, I was surprised to see an 18% gratuity was included when my credit card was charged! I hadn't even noticed that on the menu and didn't look for it, since I have never come across that at any restaurant with my family of 5. Usually it's parties of 6 or more. It's not like we were 5 adults looking for split bills or something. We were a party of 5 who ordered soup, egg rolls, 4 entrees, and a kid's meal. My children sit, eat, and behave in restaurants. No reason to add the 18% gratuity, unless it was spite because I had the audacity to ask for a fresh cup of water for my daughter instead of letting her just pour it into her tea cup. Either way, the meal and service were absolutely not worth $146. We will never go back. read more

I cannot even think of one bad thing to say about this place. Staff is extremely friendly and willing to make suggestions so you get the most for your money. I usually order the entree of Mandarin Chicken, sauce on side, and the entree of Sweet and Sour chicken, sauce on the side. It ends up being two or three meals. My next go to is the beef fried rice. A splash of soy on this and it is an incredible menu item. YetCaMein soup is excellent. Egg Rolls are excellent. I've never actually dined in, but even for take out, I've ranted and raved to several people about this place. I easily pick Northshore Empress over Trey Yuen every single time. Fun fact: this place was Jade Moon on the Southshore. They came to the Northshore and tweaked a few things. Every tweak was well worth it. read more

This family-owned restraint has the best Chinese/Vietnamese food you can imagine. The egg rolls and egg drop soup are definitely good starters. I'm sure the other ones are good too but I have not ordered any other yet but I will when I go back! The service is absolutely amazing and the food comes out at quickly for the type of food. I was impressed. Good flavor, but bummed we couldn't substitute shrimp fried rice with chicken fried rice. Also, the mandarin chicken was good, but I would have preferred to put the sauce on myself. Northshore Empress is a Chinese and Vietnamese restaurant that blows Trey Yuen out of the water! This may have not been the case 5 or 10 years ago but if you haven't noticed, Trey Yuen isn't nearly as good as it used to be. Try this place out if you agree. They have a great selection of both Chinese and Vietnamese food and everything I've tried has been great. The sauces are homemade which is uncommon these days. Go for lunch and you'll be out before you know it. They have cheap lunch specials and the portions are generous. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but sadly found it underwhelming. I wanted fresh rolls but they were not on the menu. To be fair they did make them for me, saying that they only made them on request because they were too time consuming and the kitchen could not cope if they were on the menu. This was a little odd. I also ordered egg rolls and found them greasy and tasteless. My main dish was chicken curry. This was small with a meager side of what was supposed to be shrimp fried rice, but there were no shrimp to be found. The taste was okay, but I've had much better and found the portion size way too small. I don't expect to leave hungry. All in all just average and probably won't return. read more

Dishes with vegetables are basically tasteless. Got fried shrimp and vegetables. Not quality fried shrimp. Vegetables were cooked Ok but no real flavor to the sauce. Wife had Moo Goo Gai Pan. Same problem, good white meat but tasteless. Only way to make it better is soy sauce. No salt on tables. For lunch the Mandarin Chicken was good Very nice ambiance. I usually don't put a bad review for a place but this is one time I really feel the need to. We visited her for the first time and found that the Chinese food was very bland. I had the Sesame coated chicken and while the concept was good it didn't taste like they didn't put any salt or spices on the chicken, the vegetables barely had any sauce and were just a bland, the fried rice tasted like it was made in batches and sat in a container waiting to be served all day. My mother had the LoMein and it was rather tasteless. The crab wonton had very little stuffing and were nothing great. My sister had a Vietnamese shrimp and rice noodle dish that she said was pretty good. The worst part and what keeps me from going back was the service. A older grey haired man was our server and he was quite Abrupt, impatient and rude. My 91yo mother was trying to make a decision and asking questions about the menu and he acted like we were bothering him. We gave him our order and my mother had a question after but he immediately turned away and left like he didn't what to engage my mothers question. When we were ready to pay we tried to get his attention several times, he came by the table next to us is my mother kept trying to get his attention so that we could get the bill. He could have quickly and politely said he would be there soon but instead he came over to our table and berated my mother saying the he was busy taking an order and he could not attend to us. His tone really got under my skin but I decided not make a scene. I will just never go back here again. read more

I hadn't found many Asian restaurants for sit down dinner in the Covington area. I stumbled upon this place one night and my wife and I decided to try it! It was crowded so that was a good sign! The food ended up being very good! It is a solid choice to get some good Asian cuisine in this area without a lot of choices! Definitely recommend eating here! read more

My favorite Chinese place in mandeville/Covington area. There was a wait for our table when we went on a weeknight. They were super busy but did get us a table in less than 30 mins. The good came out quickly and it was hot and delicious. This place is worth the drive for take out too. Lots of other take out and delivery places around town are garbage and not worth the convienence. Empress is worth the wait and the drive for take out. read more
