Shrimp and vegetables lunch combo. Fried rice was ONLY rice and small piece of egg- no veggies, no pork pieces, just rice.

Over a pound of rice in a lunch combo and way less entree. Used to enjoy their food. Super nice folks. Haven't gotten a combo special in a while. And when I did- not so good. "Sides" section of the togo container had the entree part, which means a lot less entree food-6 shrimp total. The shrimp tasted good and the vegetables were great. Lunch combo special comes with fried rice... annnnd that's what I got- tons of rice. Entree side half of the container had the fried rice. What was in the fried rice? A total of 1/2 teaspoon of scrambled egg, three onion bits, two diced carrot cubes, and one pea. Yup, I spread it out in disbelief just to make sure I wasn't missing reality. Wish Lou's Wok well, but I won't be back.

This is a family ran business that I have tried to support for many years. The food is good. My problem is that when a mistake is made with the order and the customer is inconvenienced, they do not do anything to correct it and make it a better experience for the customer. For example, once I ordered wontons and drove all the way home before I realized I did not have any. When I called, they were willing to make me some but were determined I would still pay the $2 for them. No one cared about my time or gas when they messed up the order. They wanted the $2! Forward to recently, I gave the lady a written order in which I have the pic. She chose to write it on her pad. I go back later at my very short lunch break to pick up food for my coworkers and me and she forgot a lady's order of egg rolls. She kindly argued that it wasn't her mistake and then tells me I can wait for her to make more and would have to pay the difference. I was not waiting. I didn't have time. I complained later to them in writing in which I didn't receive a response. I also told the lady when I was there that my take out box had a hole in it a few weeks ago when I picked up. It was not a hole made after pick up bc the missing piece was not in the box and looked more like a manufacturing defect. There's no way it wasn't seen on the lid when plating. I think it was another moment when they tried to save a few cents at the expense of the customer. I'm very disappointed. If they would take care of their customers and chalk up the loss of a $1 here and there when they inconvenience customers, etc. then maybe it will save them some bigger losses later.

First of all, the service here is AWESOME! The lady who I'm assuming owns this place is always working the front and she is so welcoming and sweet. The food always comes out quick and you can tell that they are a clean restaurant. Not to mention, everything they cook is delicious and hot when it comes out! Definitely a hole in the wall that you don't want to miss out on. My favorites are the hot and sour soup and the orange or sesame chicken. Today I ordered the chicken with mixed vegetables and it was just as delicious as everything else that I've ordered here. Super underrated! Will come back every time.

Four items for $7.79 lunch special

Liu's has been our family's go to to go place for many years now. A small family operation, practically watched their kids grow up behind the counter. Straight forward Chinese American menu, nothing brilliant, but always fresh and well prepared. The dining room is spartan and small, no frills at all. If you're on the road it's right off of I-12 if you need a quick bite and don't feel like fast food.

A step up from typical "Chinese food." Made us sone off menu vegetarian options. Great family run business.

Best takeout in Northshore. Really good hot and sour soup. Kinda hard to find, just look for McDonald's parking and strip center behind

Classic, Consistent, and a Bar Experience That Stands Out Trey Yuen just feels established, warm…read morelighting, polished wood, that timeless atmosphere that makes dinner feel like an occasion without being stuffy. We started with the crab rangoons, and they were spot on: golden and crispy with that creamy, slightly sweet filling that makes you reach for "just one more." Not greasy, not heavy, exactly how they should be. The Trey Yuen Special Steak absolutely delivered. Tender slices, perfectly cooked, coated in a rich, savory sauce that had depth without overpowering the meat. It felt like one of those signature dishes that's been refined over years. The Hunan chicken brought a balanced heat flavorful and slightly smoky with plenty of vegetables, not just spice for the sake of spice. It had that classic boldness without being overwhelming. But honestly? The bartender elevated the whole experience. Attentive without hovering, friendly without being over the top, and clearly experienced. Drinks were balanced, timely, and thoughtfully made, not rushed. It made sitting at the bar feel like the best seat in the house. That level of service makes a difference. The food was consistent and well-executed, but the hospitality is what will bring us back.

First Trey Yuen is stunning to eat at the atmosphere inside is amazing. Our server was gracious and helpful in helping us pick our dishes and they were amazing. I had the Hot Pepper Chicken and if you like spice ask them to pump up the heat with extra chilis. My wife had the shrimp and they were beautiful. All the food was fresh and amazing even the spring rolls were so fresh. Tommy came out and sat with us and shared pictures and stories about his family and this was such a surprise and we loved it. Will I be going back?? Yes, again and again!!

It's been quite a while since I've been in here, but my friends all tell me I gotta come back...and…read morethe one I had dinner with tonight insisted on it! My buddy and his wife asked me out to dine - I had my heart set on some pho, but when I got here, I had a hankering for vermicelli. I like mine with egg roll AND grilled pork - if you haven't done it, do it - for real. The presentation was different from what I was used to - a flatter, wider bowl, the pork thin sliced, almost julienned, but everything was fresh - crunchy where it was supposed to be, hot and charred/fried when needed, and it really hit the spot. Fish sauce and a generous serving of sriracha, and I was home. Steve's wife got the dumplings, and he had a giant plate of something or other with soup, but he also polished off some of Alicia's food while we were there. I remember this dude from college - I was the fat kid, but I sure couldn't hang with this dude's stomach! Our server was so super awesome and cute, but I forgot to get her name. She couldn't say Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, but neither could I, so there. Very attentive, got our food out hot and delicious, and was a wonderful host. If you're hankering for some Vietnamese or Chinese food, but can't decide - here's your sign! Seriously, though - excellent food, terrific service, amazing company, and a full belly made for the perfect night. Can't wait to see where you pick next, my friend!

Our waitress was fantastic--she offered us water, gave us thoughtful recommendations, and really seemed to care about making sure we enjoyed our meal. The food I ordered ended up being amazing--fresh, flavorful, and honestly one of the best dishes I've had in a while. But what really set this visit apart was the owner. Not only did he come out to greet us, but when we accidentally spilled a drink (embarrassingly), he made a light-hearted joke, turned the moment into a laugh, and insisted on cleaning it up himself even though we tried to take care of it. To top it all off, he offered us 10% off the next time we come in. I even joked that I'd buy him lunch for all the trouble, and he just laughed and said, "No--lunch will be on us next time!" You really don't get that kind of hospitality everywhere. Amazing people, incredible food, and a genuinely memorable night. North Empress has definitely earned a return visit!
