I did take out twice. It was what I had hoped for in the American-Chinese style. Mandarin Chicken are fried boneless skinless thigh meat. You can opt for breast meat for +$3. Also sauce on the side. Pork fried rice, spring rolls in my experience are actually egg rolls which doesn't matter what they call it bc they're good! Also opt for the house made sweet-sour and hot mustard sauces for a nominal fee, but they are so worth it. Careful on the mustard the Chinese horseradish will take your breath away, but it is great with appetizers. read more

This was our first time trying this restaurant as it is hidden behind a bank and you could hardly see it. So we looked it up and read the story behind the place. Great story. Read it on the menu or website. Service was outstanding. We ordered our drinks which were a beer served with a frosted mug and a glass of plum wine. Then our appetizers of the barbecue pork, crab meat delight, and a bowl of egg flower soup. All of them came out hot and fresh and were so tender. I must mention that everything is made to order army the time you order it and everything is fresh. Our entrees were the Triple Dragon, Sesame Chicken and beef fried rice. Everything was outstanding, full of flavor and again was made to order fresh. Desert was the pineapple rim tim. This was not bad, could have been better and the cheesecake was fluffy and creamy. I hadn't dined in for quite a while, usually ordering to go. We decided to dine in, and I ordered a regular war wonton soup. I removed two wontons and ate two spoonfuls before mistakenly spilling the hot soup mostly in my lap and some on the table. The waitress came over with a towel to clean the table, but she never asked if I was okay, knowing it was hot. My BIGGEST COMPLAINT/issue is that she never offered to give me another soup. I would have been okay with just the broth because I had the wontons on a saucer. She didn't have any issue charging me for it. I know replacing the soup minus the wontons wouldn't have been a big loss to the restaurant. What has happened to customer service? PLEASE IMPROVE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! read more

I had the egg flower soup with the noodles and it was delicious, I would say it's the best I've had. My husband had the sweet and sour shrimp and chicken it he said it was really good too. The tea was excellent the atmosphere was cosy and peaceful. We didn't have a long wait time and server was attentive but didn't hover. I definitely recommend it. read more

We ordered take out from China Lotus for the first time tonight. There was not a useful menu available on the website so just ordered our usual favorites - chicken fried rice, vegetable low mein, beef and broccoli, sesame chicken and egg rolls. The price was astronomical over $80, but we had high expectations for such a high price. The sesame chicken is true chicken breast, they were breaded but with the amount of sauce in the container, the breading was soft and sopping wet. Overall, flavor was good but execution was poor. The chicken fried rice also had large chunks of white meat chicken which I appreciated. The fried rice was my favorite portion of the meal. Beef and broccoli was flavored well, broccoli still had a good crunch and the beef was tender and not chewy at all. The low mein however was so wildly overcooked, the noodles were mush, the vegetables were soft enough to feed to an infant and the favor wasn't there at all. Egg rolls were decent but we were unaware they would contain seafood (again, no usable menu was available anywhere) so those were a miss for us too. The employees purposely take the phone off the hook so they don't have to take call in orders! They admitted this when I went there after trying to call in an order for over an hour then had to wait 45 min once I got there! Never again. They did not see any problem with it and it's still going on a year later! Can they really afford to lose all that take out business?? We won't be back. The first time I went to China lotus. It was a Sunday afternoon around 12. The owner yelled to us that they were very busy and had no tables. Today we decided to try again since there aren't very many Chinese restaurants in the Hammond area. Our waitress was very nice. The spring rolls were delicious but they were $5 for two mini ones. We both got lunch special chicken meals. White meat is $2 extra. Most places it's only a dollar more. The breading on every piece of chicken fell off. The chicken was flavorless and pounded very thin. The rice was supposed to be combination fried rice but had only one piece of pork in it. When we left, we passed right in front of the owner and she said nothing. No thanks, no have a good day. Rude, overpriced, medicore. We won't be giving them any more of our business. read more

Spent $160 on a to-go order and kiddos are now eating peanut butter sandwiches. Food was uneatable. Did not receive Hot and Spicy chicken. Boneless fried chicken was covered with brown sauce which made it soggy and no veggies. Mandarin chicken had absolutely no flavor. Chicken taste like it was boiled in water with no seasoning. Sweet and sour chicken had an odd taste. Chicken fried rice had two chunks of flavorless chicken on top of rice and rice was crunchy. No pork in pork fried rice. I hadn't been to China Lotus in awhile and I am embarrassed I asked my family to order tonight. I have pics but do not see how to upload to this review. Service, food presentation all awesome. Large, shareable portions of freshly cooked to order and HOT food. The Asian food experience of the 80s before buffets ruined it. You will be glad you came. Family atmosphere and attentive wait staff all made this a great option in the Hammond, La area. I've been going here since the 1980's! Damn, I'm old! This restaurant started off in a strip mall in ponchatoula years ago. It was, what would be today, behind Racetrack in Ponchatoula. Right about where the Taco Bell is. Buffet style, well kinda Piccadilly style, when it first started. Always delicious and made to order now. You can tell the difference. Ordered the mandarin chicken and looked like a pile of hot shit and tasted accordingly. If I could leave zero stars I would. I'm not one to be picky about COVID restrictions but the seating arrangements were extremely close I could practically reach on either side of me and grab a fork full of the other tables food. They are closed on Mondays and Saturdays and most sites say they close at 9pm, there phone message says the close at 8pm. just a FYI.

Waited 40 minutes for my order. Arrived ahead of time and paid for my meal and waited approximate 30 additional minutes. Spring rolls were hard, probably refried, I could not cut with knife, very difficult to chew. The Wontons for my War Wonton soup were old and hard, too. The soup did soften them up a little. The Crab Meat Won Tons were cold and also hard. I got Crab Meat Won Tons without some sort of dipping sauce, most restaurants serve with a sweet and sour on the side. The only thing good about my Tong Cho Chicken was the Tong Cho sauce. The chicken, white meat which I had to pay extra for, was overcook and hard. The Tempura Batter was floating in the sauce, not even on the chicken. Worse Chinese food I have ever "tried" to eat. So disappointed. I was so looking forward to my "over priced" meal.
