It was a bad experience with YMCA this afternoon. My 4years old kid was kick out of the swimming poor, just because I could not be with him in the water even thought he wear the lifejacket and I watched on the floor. On Monday and Tuesday, when we went to the swimming pool, we were told my son had to wear the lifejacket to allow in the water without my accompany. I watched him swimming,it was fine. But today, a life guard told me my son had to get out of the pool after he had just got in the water. Why? Because their life guards were wrong. Kids under 7 years old must swim with an adult. He told me other life guards were wrong, he was right. He is the supervisor. he said sorry for this mistake. But why kick my son out of the water,not kick himself out of the YMCA? Why a 4 years old kid should pay for the lifeguard mistake? read more

I have been going here off and on for the past 4 years and have enjoyed watching my son grow up here too. Safe teen environment, teen programs in the summer months are well worth the money and extra work of packing a lunch. However, for myself I love the Pilate's, yoga, strength training program and well maintained treadmill/eliptical that I use every time I exercise. Keep up the great work! read more

I have belonged to the Y for 4 years now and have enjoyed several features of it, especially its proximilty to my home. I have taken Tai Chi and have used some of the machines. But I have endured its high cost - now its up to $60/month for a single person - that is a chunk of change. I did a bit investigating of other exercise providers and it turns out that having a pool at a facilty adds about $20/month burden on everyone no matter which company. I don't use the pool as I am not ot a an indoor water person, especially with kids. I don't like having to pay for this major cost increasing feature when I do not use it. This Y also has their all too familiar parking problem at peak times. Now with a recent tigther budget, I am seriously thinking of quitting. read more

Extremely friendly staff. Very helpful, and a lot of activities to choose from. We drive here from Redmond because it's smaller and friendlier than some others. They also have a climbing wall outside. read more

Fantastic opportunities for any age at affordable prices. Our family has the facility membership, and they even offer financial assistance for it if needed. Our children have the ability to try different activities (martial arts, ballet, swimming, etc), and I love the included 2-hr daily childcare while I go to the included group classes (yoga, cycling, body shop, above the barre classes). They even offer group classes and childcare at The Carol Edwards Center in downtown Woodinville for more convenience. Now, my favorite part of this facility is the wonderful staff and their smiles and positive attitudes. They are warm and friendly, which makes me want to come back more and more. If there is a concern or improvement needed, they are quick to help find a solution. Finally, I like how they run a background check on every new member, which helps provide a safe atmosphere for all ages. read more

In general the staff and facility at the Northshore YMCA are very good, but there are a couple of things that really annoy me. There is no weight room etquette. I go there often and see the regulars acting as this is their own personal gym. In 10 years I have NEVER seen or heard a staff member address weight room etiquette. DON'T TAKE 2 MACHINES AT ONCE, WORK IN, CLEAN UP YOUR BENCH, PUT AWAY YOUR WEIGHTS - it's not that complicated folks. Cell phones. There are signs eveywhere asking people not to use cell phones (except in certain areas) This rule is disregarded all the time. I have seen people walk past staff members while talking on their cell phone and the staff member pretends that they don't notice. read more

This place is a joke. Overall the facilities are not back but the staff and their programs are horrible. A bunch of teenagers running a facility and a staff that all seem to leave the office at 2pm everyday is not the way to run a facility like this. I signed my son up for soccer. After two weeks his team still did not have a coach. I told the athletics director, who is one of the most incompetent people there, i wanted a refund. His response is that the Y doesn't do refunds after a program has started. Two weeks in, there is no coach, the program is very disorganized, and you tell me the program is in full swing and you can't do a refund. That is absurd. I cancelled my membership today. Not worth the $120 a month plus all the program fees I paid. Stupid mistake on my part. read more

I have been a member of the YMCA for 15 years and I have to say the Staff at the Northshore YMCA do not have the experience of those at other Y's (eg Dale Turner and Mel Korum staff are excellent). We have experienced poor communication at both summer camps and swim lessons, causing ourselves and other parents much inconvenience, extra travel time and inconsistent schedules. The staff do not exhibit a caring attitude that is respectful of the parent members, giving parents an "oh well , that's life " response. Parents spend a lot of time and money to provide care and recreation activities for the family and the Northshore YMCA needs to exhibit it's values in providing services. One star is too much, this place deserves a zero. read more

The YMCA Nothshore site has dropped in supporting its members over the last year. Today was the worst at the site when my children left crying because of the swim instructors unwillingness to work with them. The front desk offered no help just telling me they could not help. This type of don't care about members has become constant at the Northshore site over the last year. Don't know the reason for the change, but it is awful to watch your little ones cry. read more

Of all the ymcas in this area this is the best one. They work hard to keep friendly staff and the childcare area is great! The staff in the childcare area like Sharon are familiar with my kids and are kind to them. They know the kids and they keep an eye on them. They have strict rules about how they check kids in and out. Not a five star for me because the swim classes are not very coordinated and sometimes I don't feel like my kids are learning very much. The one on one swim classes are very expensive so we do the group one. read more

I registered my kid for Spring Soccer. I had some difficulty in the given schedule and requested a day change. It was just 1 week(1 day practice) after the program started. "Sports & Recreation Assistant Director" at that center said there are no spot left for the day that I want. Later I found that there was a spot left. I requested her to change my schedule to that that day. She denied strongly and saying that it will create imbalance to their team formation. Will a lot of email conversation, she was ready to let me go and drop from the program but was not ready to change time. I am surprised by her business model. When she had spot available, why don't she change that rather than dropping a customer? What business model is this? This makes me a bigger disliker for YMCA as a whole and will probably never go back there. read more

I've always been a fan of the Y and this is a nice YMCA. The facilities are clean and well kept. Yes, it can be pretty busy if you go at peak times (as some others have said) but what gym or fitness club isn't during those times. Our grandkids are in swim lessons here and they love it. They're making great progress in the pool thanks to the lessons. If you plan on taking swim lessons here, you need to sign up quick and they fill up very fast. I recommend you sign up online the day they open up the classes. If you go in person and wait in line you'll probably miss out. read more

Unfortunately, the Northshore Y is experiencing a very high level of locker theft and car break-ins these days. The when I reported the theft to staff members they were not suprised and are very aware of the locker break-ins to locked lockers that have a locked lock on them but they do not warn members about this issue. I had my purse stolen out of my locked locker in August '18 and they told me that was the fourth or fifth time it's happened in the last two weeks. There was no sign posted in the locker room so I had no idea this was something to watch out for. IMO the staff is not concerned enough about the safety and security of their members. They have warned people in email about car theft one time and should at minimum do the same about lockers being broken into. Additionally, the remodel didn't seem to upgrade the facility in any way but seemed like it was just a basic maintenance. read more

Equipment is fine, but nothing special. Good childcare area, I like that they have a pool. Overall, the staff is super nice with some great adult group exercise teachers. High price if you don't use the childcare. I do, so this place gets an A! read more

Love this place!! They have a variety of children's programs and activities. The hours are great and the staff couldn't be better.

My family moved to the Bothell area recently. We needed a place for our son to go to in the mornings and looked at the Y's program on-line. The website stated it was 300.00 for the school year. We called and it was suggested that we sign up as soon as possible because they were getting full. My husband went in to the Y to sign him up, was rushed through the paperwork and verbally confirmed with them the cost of $300 for the year and was told yes. The first months deduction was done immediately and we thought we were done. Mid-way through the first month of school, I called the center where they do the care and left a message to let them know that my son probably wouldn't be attending until mid-October. We received no call back. October rolls around and we receive another $300 deduction. We immediately started calling and after numerous days passing and no return phone calls from the center, we moved up the chain. After doing more research we found an e-mail address for an administrator and sent an e-mail. We never received a response from the Administrator, but did get one from a program or business manager stating that our paper contract that was signed had $300 monthly listed but did thanks us for pointing out that their website was not clear and that their program should have called us directly after a couple of days of our son not showing up, which never happened. I'm glad that our $600 was put to good use for pointing out the problems that they had and their unwillingness to correct any mistake on their part all because my husband was rushed through signing a contract and their staff and website are misinformed. My son hasn't attended a day there. read more

I've been a member of the Y my whole life, and my kids and I have been going to this one for the past year. We really love it. The staff are so helpful and friendly and the childcare is really impressive. As an RN, I really appreciate their attention to cleanliness, how they isolate the babies from the toddlers, and have a separate, large activity room for the older kids, how perfectly organized the whole set up is, and how present and warm the staff are while watching my kids. They play with them, teach them and encourage them and always seem to remember their names. It's awesome. My kids love it like a second home. There are so many awesome classes included in our membership and equipment-wise they have everything you could need. Even the patrons are friendly and there's a real sense of community here. I took away a star because I found the way they set up swim classes for my son to be in need of reconstruction--thankfully they've just revamped their classes and we're trying again. read more

I heard from another parent that the swim instructors were "mean", I didn't believe it and signed my kids up for swim lessons at the same level they had achieved at the Seattle YMCA. The first night the swim instructor singled out my children saying the were "beginner-minus level", "had to learn to swim " and could not come back to the class. My kids are 9 and 11 years old, can do the breaststroke , sidestroke and backstrokes for the length of the pool. The staff were not helpful , stating all other classes were full and we were simply out of luck. I've never experienced this type of uncaring attitude and disrespect in my ten years with other YMCA branches. Northshore is a real piece of work, resulting in a total waste of my time, disappointment, embarrassment and unwarranted humiliation of my children and lost opportunity. Northshore YMCA staff does not live the YMCA values. Yes, the instructors are mean. I'm going to Gold's Gym, I'll pay more but will deal with less incompetence. read more
