Parking: Plenty There are not many stores open at this mall. It is a rather dark, dreary, desolate & deserted mall. The food court had about 2 - 3 restaurants open, and it was freezing cold. It looks like they have doors open with these large airvac type accordion piping blowing cold air inside. Hopefully, they will get other business & restaurants to return & make the mall more vibrant. 1 is my rating. read more

This mall is hollowed out. I am saddened to see it fall from its original grandiose visuals. Very outdated in and out. Not much to look at inside the mall. Lots of empty spaces and quiet hallways. About 5 retail stores and 2 food court options. A mall's food court always tells the tale when it comes to business and Northlake's court speaks of dismal awareness. This mall has quite nice planters, fountains, and glass roof. None of the stores I came to shop at were currently operational. I ended up purchasing a pretzel, a cookie, and some Oriental food. Couple of Watch repair and Jewelry stores can be considerable. Construction is on going near the back entrance of the building, so I am hopeful that this is a sign of better things to come. Northlake Mall is a shopping mall northeast of Atlanta in the Northlake community of northern DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The mall was once owned and managed by Simon Property Group - but since February 2016 has been owned by Texas-based ATR Corinth Partners. Anchor store is Macy's. This mall is spacious, clean and well maintained. They have few shops like Macy's, JC Penney in this mall. This mall has other stores including few eateries. Like other malls across America, this was a dying mall on life support. It's what you call a "dead mall" or a "ghost mall" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_mall). Lots of empty storefronts, relatively little shopper activity (on a weekend day, too), and an usual mix of off-brand retailers. Our visit to this mall was like going into a time machine and traveling back to the 80s and 90s. Northlake originally opened in 1971. It's a two-story mall with space for four anchor tenants. During our visit, two of the anchors were vacant. The two active anchors were JCPenney and Macy's. My fiancee had some professional headshots taken at JCPenney Portraits. Kohl's closed in June 2016 and Sears closed in September 2018. On a Sunday afternoon, both JCPenney and Macy's seemed decently busy, so that was a good sign. Compared to other "traditional" malls in the Atlanta metro, Northlake is one of the smaller ones. Stores/brands that were memorable/notable to me included Foot Locker, LensCrafters, and... well, that's it. We walked by New York & Company Outlet which was having a closeout sale (up to 80% off). I noticed storefronts for a closed Payless ShoeSource and Victoria's Secret. There were only *three* vendors open at the food court: American Deli, Cozy Burger, and Tokyo Express. Overall, our walk through this mall was both fascinating and sad. I imagine this location was scouted for Stranger Things 3 (as many fans know, Gwinnett Place Mall had the honor of being Starcourt Mall in the TV show). These dead malls are perfect for it. One thing I noticed is a lot of the customers appeared to be African, Asian, and Latino immigrants. More specifically, Ethiopian and Southeast Asian. I know there are relatively high populations of Ethiopians in the area as well as Burmese (Clarkston). This mall is convenient for folks in the Decatur, Stone Mountain, and Tucker area. And of course, the unincorporated Northlake community. This mall is located ITP (inside the perimeter) and is home to the only ITP JCPenney. Currently, the end of the mall where Kohl's and Sears used to be is completely dead. Despite the lack of occupants, at least the mall was clean and appears to be decently maintained. The fountains in front of both JCPenney and Macy's are nice and probably the highlights of the common area aesthetics. Architecturally and interior-design-wise, this place looks most definitely dated. However, it's nothing out of the ordinary as far as past-their-prime malls like this go. They're all badly in need of a makeover/repurpose. When I moved to Atlanta, Northlake was one of the malls that I used to shop at, mainly because I'm a fan of Kohl's, and this was the closest Kohl's to where I lived at the time. However, when Kohl's closed in mid-2016, I, for the most part, stopped coming to Northlake Mall. Until earlier this week. Oh man ... this mall. Uh ... time has not been good to Northlake Mall. At one time, this used to be a bustling mall, but now looks like it's on life support. Lots of available parking is easy to find and very close to the mall entrances. I walked into the mall earlier this week to physically find out for myself if a restaurant that was here the last time I visited was still here. It wasn't; thankfully, though, it had moved down the street, so I was glad about that. While I was at the mall, I decided to to look around. I didn't feel very safe being here because I noticed many of the people walking through the mall weren't even wearing face masks, so I didn't stay very long. Inside the mall looks fairly clean and in good shape, although I noticed that one set of escalators was not working. All indoor planters, where plants used to flourish, now just contain mulch, but at least they're presentable. The outside of the mall needs renovations. While I was there, it looked like, on the ground level (what's considered the ground level on the south side of the mall), there were more empty store spaces than actual stores. Although there are still a handful of nationally recognized stores still open at this mall, most of the businesses that are open are one-of-a-kind stores that I've never seen or heard of before. That's not a bad thing, because there just may be some diamond in the rough businesses that can flourish. Without a strong store following with repeat customers, though I don't see how these small business owners can sustain being in business. Foot traffic throughout the mall was light. There were a whole lot more people at the nearby Emory Covid-19 testing center here, but they weren't physically IN the mall. Macy's is still in business, and it's the only anchor store that remains. Macy's is probably what's keeping this mall going. Plans for Emory Healthcare to house corporate administrative services have been put on pause for now, and there are some medical healthcare offices already functioning. This would be a huge lifeline for this mall, since Emory's original plans were to take over all the spaces that were formerly the Kohl's and Sears anchor stores. Can all these current mall businesses maintain until then (if the plans even come to fruition)? I certainly hope so. There really isn't any reason for me to come here now. read more

I call this mall good ole faithful. It's been here for years, has changed so much but ain't going nowhere. This used to be my go to mall for everything at one point in my life. But as time went on I started to forget about it and I found myself shopping elsewhere. As of late, I've been back and have started to really appreciate what it still has to offer. Unlike other mall's that have been around for awhile this mall is not run down and in bad shape. It still has life left to give. Some of the stores have gone that I was familiar with but new ones have opened and I've enjoyed shopping at some. Like the Cartoon store up at the front entrance. They sell so many Hello Little Kitty things that I don't have to go anywhere else. My daughters are big fans. Oh there is also a store downstairs called Shoe Lover. I think they named that store especially for me because that's exactly what I am. Every time I'm in the mall I have to stop by and say hello to my friends, the shoes that is. And in the food court they now have a place where you can buy Mexican food. I'm not a fan of Mexican food but I do enjoy a good Quesadilla every now and then. Joe's Catfish is also there. I do enjoy some good Talapia as well. There is one place that I would not recommend you going and that is the nail salon up at the front entrance. I wrote up a nice little review as to why. This mall has the essential department stores; Kohls, Macy's, Sears, etc. There's also a NY & Co, Rainbow, Bath & Body Works, too. So, overall.. I never have a problem when I come here. Most times, I know exactly what store(s) I'm coming for and exactly what I want so I don't come to roam around. Living in the Tucker area, it's the closest thing so I'm here often. I come here for popcorn more often than not because the Chicago popcorn store is on the first floor and right off the elevator. So, when I have a craving it's so accessible. Love them! If I need a quick t-shirt or dress for something and I don't have time to go to Perimeter then this is my first stop. They don't always have what I need, but I make it work. It looks a little worn down and even though some of the store and kiosk owners try they can't make its appearance anymore appealing because it's just an old establishment. It serves its purpose. There's no glitz and glamour. Come get your little items and get gone. I don't even bother going to the food court here because... well, there are so many other places to eat in the area. I wouldn't give the food court a second glance. read more

Oh you sad little mall. One of the leftovers from the 80s or so, which now houses lots of stores which are quite obviously old chain stores (change some letters in 'starbucks' and it becomes an entire other name!) and lots of the types of stores evident of a mall's decline. There is a branch of the Crescent Moon here and also an Old Navy which seems to be well stocked... Otherwise, the cornerstone stores are holdin' it down amongst some random other ones. No, there isn't even a Gap - which is pretty much a staple in the majority of malls around. So - don't go here to shop. But you probably already knew that. What you can go here for is the lovely fountains (I'm sure that water's recycled, right?!), if you're a 'mall walker' (tending to be with babies or if you prefer your exercise slowly and indoors), or if you have an addiction to shopping that you are trying to break - because you likely won't be buying anything. read more

I almost cried. When I was a young Bulldog at Decatur High School (circa mid-1980's), this was the mall, my friends and I use to hang out, my mother thought malls like Lenox and Perimeter were too far away. There are still a few department stores like Macy's, Sears, Khols and JCPenny. Victoria Secrets, Foot Locker and Limted are still here. Otherwise its a just mostly independent stores and that...at least someone is making their entrepreneurial dreams come true. I walked both levels of the mall, and while I wasn't surprised at how few people were at the mall, I was sadden by how sad the mall merchants seemed to be. I haven't been to this mall in about 5 years. Came to town for the weekend and decided to stop by the mall to purchase a few gifts and something for myself. I was highly disappointed to find half of the mall is out of business and the other half is holding on for dear life. read more

Like the other two reviews, it is pretty sad to walk through this mall. There are some good stores like Old Navy, the Limited, Bath and Body Works.... But other than that, it's all independant stores (ok, there are some other chain stores). A couple good things: a new train that goes around the whole floor ($3 i think), the jumpy thing in front of sears that seems to be fun, free wireless internet in the food court (i think). i heard rumors that a developer wanted to demolish the mall and recreate it like atlantic station or something, but macy's and kohl's denied that one. it's too bad, cause it could use a major facelift like that. read more

I have to admit i really only come to this mall for the JC Penny and the Sears. Other than that i don't frequent this mall for much more. It is a very quiet mall that is kept very clean ( maybe due to the lack of traffic). I remember back in the the day this mall used to be a lot busier. And i'm afraid it's going to go even more downhill once sears leaves. They do have plenty of show/ athletic store so that a plus if your on the hunt for some sneakers. Came here for the first time the weekend before Christmas and the mall was empty! It blew my mind. Then I realize the only stores I recognized were Macys and JC Penny and Victoria's secret and bath and body works. All the other stores looked like they belonged in a flea market. I found it curious that this mall contained none of the typical chain stores. The food court was dark and dingy with about 5 places to choose from none of which I recognized. Biggest turn off was the shoe repair shop sitting in the middle of the food court. How is anyone supposed to eat while staring at a bunch of dirty shoes in various stages of disrepair? I saw that there was a payless shoe store that was closed down way in the back of the mall. How the heck does a payless close down? Blew my mind. How is this mall still open? I guess Macy's is what's keeping it alive. There are a bunch of plants scattered around the mall most of them dead. Management does not bother with upkeep. I guess because they know this place will be gone soon. read more

This mall has seen better days. I was a big fan of Northlake Mall when I was a teenager, but even then it was on a downhill spiral - It was the one place my parents let me hang out with friends, without parental supervision - there really wasn't/isn't too much damaged to be done. The mall is still populated mainly by off-brand shops, and while there are a few relevant shops still there (Macy's, Victoria's Secret) - the stock and selection is weak and nothing compared to their sister stores. Still, a silver lining - it's usually pretty vacant, and if you can find what you need at one of the department stores (Kohl's is their best, in my opinion) - you can avoid crowds and traffic here easily. read more

Look folks, every mall isn't going to have an Abercrombie, Bloomingdales, True Religion, or Gap. Some malls cater to people who cannot afford these stores. This is where Northlake Mall comes in. I think it is a fine mall for what it is. It has an affordable Macy's and one of the few JC Penney's in the area. The mall itself has some businesses that many would consider low-end, but is that bad? It also has a Limited, Foot Locker and Lady Foot Locker, Victoria's Secret and New York and Company which are not low end or "ghetto". I do miss the Old Navy that used to be here. It was large and one of the better ones in the area. This is not a large mall and it does not have many stores. Considering the large number of shopping options within 20 minutes or so, Northlake does not have to be everything. I would recommend coming if you are looking for cheaper department store options (Macy's, JC Penney, Kohls, Sears) than what you may find at Lenox or Perimeter. read more

Yeah, I used to work at Northlake in the early to mid 90's so there are tons of fond memories. I had moved away from Atlanta from 2004-2010 and returned to Northlake for the first time over the Christmas holiday 2010. Yikes.... Um, wow...what a selection of overpriced dollar store type shops. There are a few name brand shops but for the most part, just a yucky selection of stuff I'd expect to find in a Walmart plaza. And now the Old Navy is gone so there is literally no reason to return. IT'S REALLY NOT THAT BAD!, AND IT'S DEFINITELY BETTER THAN HAVING NO MALL AT ALL! I have wondered about this mall and if it is really as bad as they say it is because it has been my experience that the complaints are usually more hype than substance. Yes there were some stores boarded up, but the worst aspect of this mall is stores like the Limited Outlet. This store was just disgusting! The floor was filthy and I just find that offensive and inexcusable. Overall, this mall was clean and organized. However, as we entered the main area of the mall, we noticed the lack of holiday decorations, which is very sad. Yes this mall is limited, but there are some stores and services not available in other malls. For example, this mall has a huge barber and beauty salon, it has entertainment/childcare services for children, and a hair supply store. If you really Macy's do not visit the one in this mall as it is just not the same. Kohl's and JC Penney are the clear winners for clean, organized, well stocked stores with great customer service. There is a nice open food court which had several eating options, American, Mexican, Asian and more. On the lower level, there is "Santa's Village" that is decorated and has a nice tree. As a newbie to the Atlanta area, I'm always lost. So when Yelp said there was still an Old Navy at this mall I drove over from Stone Mtn to cash in on the sales. What I found was a Zombie Apocalypse situation somehow A Tijuana, Mexico shopping mall had been transported to Atlanta. Complete with plenty of ugly over the top formal stores, cheap Chinese clothing shops and a pitiful food court. Surprisingly there were a lot of folks shopping, but truthfully it just made me sad at what so many of our malls have become today. read more

If you like places called "Shazzam," "Pizzazz" and "Joe's Crappy Junk" than you've found the mall for you! The only reason you'll be going to this mall is to hit up Kohl's. Don't expect to find any other great stores. Even Gap is missing. OK OK there is a Macy's but most of it is ghetto attire. They had one dress shirt for sale, but it had a giant red dragon on it. Oh, this poor poor old mall. I remember growing up in the ATL, when Northlake Mall was new and fresh. We would make the drive all the way across the top end of the perimeter just to come to Northlake. Today, this mall is essentially and outlet mall. It still has a couple of department store anchors, but the retail inside the mall is sad. The food court is losing tenants. This mall needs new management and a complete renovation. read more

This is an 80's mall that seems to have never been updated. Most of the stores are really ghetto, and there isn't much you'd want to buy, BUT......if you like the Limited, which I do for work clothes, this is the best store in the city! They always have stuff that the Lenox store has run out of, and it is big! So when I don't feel like fighting the crowd at Lenox, and I am only needing a quick suit for work, then I head here. Straight to the Limited, then straight back to my car. The Macy's here is decent too, I guess. But the food options in this mall are terrible. And I think the Crescent Moon here has closed down, since the last few times I've been the lights have been out and doors locked in the middle of the day. It's the type of mall where you need to run in and get "a top" or "a shoe" because your heel broke, or it's a last minute thing. You need something, you run in, get it, and run out. Nothing about the fashion here excites me, and it doesn't seem like it excites anyone. The Emory shuttle had a stop here, and they've since canceled it due to the recession. That was the most traffic the mall would've ever received because people were already at the mall. Oh well. Macy's is NOT high end, and has never ever been considered high end, so I'm confused by people saying it's their nice store. It's MACY'S, not Bloomys or Neimans. Anywho, average department stores, nothing nice inside, bleh food court, and just eeeh.. bleh. I enjoy having a Sears Auto and Sears close by for home stuff, but other than that. Toodle loo Northlake. FYI: Any mall that doesn't have automatic doors in all of their entrances in this day and age, needs a reevaluation. read more

This mall is weak. I go here every so often when I'm too lazy to go anywhere else only since it is like 2 minutes from my house. I like to get my brows threaded there I can't remember the name of the store though. But other then that honestly this place creeps me out. I only gave it the second star due to the threading place. I grew up in the area and have witnessed the sad decline of Northlake mall. The Kohls and Sears are actually decent enough, and I just got a good bargain kids book at the Borders (B. Dalton?) inside, which is the only book store in the area. But overall there are a few vacancies, hat/perfume stores, one or two manicure/massage type places, a lot of 'low rent' type stores. Structure, Eddie Bauer, County Seat, Disney Store, and many others are long gone. The good news is that Crescent Moon is supposed to re-open soon (with a new name and new ownership). Before the new owners ran it into the ground CM was good. So we'll see... read more

On a recent visit to the Atlanta area, I needed a place to waste a couple of hours. This Mall was near my hotel, so i figured, that the heck. When I read the reviews I was expecting some run-down and deserted experience. Well, while it was a little ghost-town-like, it was not run-down. The mall was clean and modern, there was a good bland of chain and local stores, and the vibe was generally positive. But, still, no people. Kinda weird. So, the three stars is due to the fact that whoever is running this place seems me have missed the mark in getting energy and people to visit the mall. read more

My review of Northlake is much like Taylor A's review. Northlake WAS nice. It really was some 10 or 15 years ago. But it's been sliding for a while. Macy's is just sad. If you want to by Baby Phat and Apple Bottoms, it's the store for you. The employees there could care less about helping you unless you are like them. Just being honest here. I promise my money is just as good but they don't seem to want it. Kohl's has been a pleasant addition and they are usually helpful there. Penney's has the most helpful, friendly staff in the mall. I often go there to buy clothes for my little boy. Aside from that, it's a dying mall that the Simon's group has totally given up on. There have been a few robberies and some shootings in the parking lot. I hate to see it go the way of North Dekalb Mall but it is headed rapidly in that direction unless something happens to revive it soon. read more

I live really close to this mall but don't really go there are there aren't a lot of options. I went there this afternoon trying to find my daughter some shoes. How hard is it to buy shoes for a 2 year old at Northlake? Pretty damn hard as we went into a bunch of stores and I finally gave up. Looks like I'll be going to Perimeter tomorrow. The Kohl's is ok. They have good prices on kid's clothes so I go here a fair amount because I don't like to spend a lot of money on clothes for the kiddo. Macy's is ok. I've really only ever gone here for housewares and it's ok, but I did have to go to Lenox for something in what the lady said here was a "weird" color. Old Navy is ok, but frequently doesn't have a lot in the way of kid's clothes. Sears is pretty good. I go here for things like yard tools and other tools. Overall, this mall gets a big meh from me. read more

Dude what happened? This mall used to be the PLACE, or one of the places. There was a lot of variety of things to see. Sadly, I wanna say this place started to decline about 2008, right when rave and charlotte russe shut down. My favorite old navy is long gone, and now some rancid generic store sits in it's place. So yes the mall is never ever busy, but people do not come to be se inTucker. Most come to this mall to actually buy something. There is a Macy's, Kohls, and JCPennys. The staff at JCP is always super friendly and helpful and you can always find coupons or deals to use. Yeah, you know those Levi's that you paid a to. For, well, JCP has the same pair plus a 20% deal. Who is the winner now? They have a huge Disney section for kids and costumes for Halloween....on sale. Again, who is the winner now? They have 2 floors of your everyday mall stores, VS, Journeys, Claire's, Etc. the food court may as well shut down. They is an indoor bounce house place for kids, but we haven't gone. Oh, they supposedly have a top notch Santa and short wait times. read more

BIZARRE! That's the best way to describe this place. It ranks right down there with North Dekalb mall. Northlake has the strangest array of stores. Most appear to be locally owned and sell garbage or offer massages behind a curtain. The JC Penny store is infested with roaches and the last time I was there you could see several dead roaches throughout the store. Disgusting. Also, every time I have been to this mall I have been approached by men either trying to take me on a date or sell me something. I would like to shop in peace fellas. The one thing this mall does have going for it is one of the anchor stores is Kohl's. I am really surprised Kohl's went in this location because the mall itself is so strange. Now I don't have to drive to Marietta or Duluth to shop at this store. I prefer other Kohl's locations over this one, but it is convenient if I need to drop in and get a quick gift for someone. read more

In the 21st century, all you can do is take Northlake Mall as it is. Simon has vacated ownership as of April this year. There are a few anchor stores left: Macy's, Kohl's, and the same JC Penney & Sears that were there in 1971 with Davisons. When Northlake was built in 1971, it was part of the new boon in malls, following the mid 60's when North Dekalb, which had the Rich's and Woolworth, Greenbriar, and Columbia Mall (later Avondale Mall, and utter death completed as a Wal-Mart. The main entrances are still the same was they were in the 70's, and little has ever been done to update the architecture or interior. For some of us older Atlanta native's, it's a little nightmarish trip into the past, but the stores are pale impostors of what they used to be. Still, I've found that what you can't find at other stores in the area, you can sometimes find in the limited stock available at Macy's, and Kohl's isn't any different for menswear than the other ones around. If you keep your expectations in check, it's not a bad place to get last-minute gift items or find those sale closeouts that are gone from neighboring stores. read more

We went to Northlake Mall to visit Santa and have pictures taken of our 4 young grandchildren. After waiting an hour we found that the Santa was anything but welcoming to the people waiting. They want you to buy their pictures and only their pictures. The young ladies at the counter selling the pictures were nice but Santa fussed at me and my husband for taking pictures. He had our grandchildren in his lap as he fussed at us ! Good grief ! You cannot take pictures of your family with Santa !!! Do Not go to Northlake Mall's Santa !!!
