He did a full analysis on my feet and stride, and was super knowledgeable and patient throughout the process. I learned so much about what to look for in both running and cross-training shoes. He stuck with my style which is nothing too bright and more neutral and versatile. After tried on a few different pairs and even some insoles. I ended up leaving with a new pair of Brooks and some Karhus. Turns out I'd been wearing the wrong size shoe. To top off my purchase I got a pair of Feetures socks and let me say, they are great so far. My feet have never felt better during workouts. Great service. They take their time with you. I am not athletic and had no idea what type of sneaker or brand I needed. All I knew was that I'm tired of my feet hurting when wearing sneakers and I do want to wear them all day. The service was amazing. They measure your feet and provide you with a foot profile. From there, the fun really begins. I lost count of how many sneakers I tried to find the lightweight, comfortable and balanced footwear. I normally don't go along with all 5-stars for a place, but Fleet Feet went above and beyond for me today. I went in to buy a new pair of running shoes, and I was very clear that they couldn't be ugly and they couldn't be an atrocious hot or neon color. If you're not a runner, let me tell you how most running shoes are as ugly as an old man's balls and after Usain Bolt wore neon yellow shoes in the Brazil Summer Olympics they all became neon. Yuck! My sales person (a lovely man whose name I can't remember and not sure I ever heard) was the epitome of patience. He measured my feet and although I knew that my left foot was slightly bigger than my right, he said I should be wearing a "Wide" shoe. (So not only does being over 40 make your hips spread, it makes your feet spread, too. *tears*) He also said that I should go up a side to avoid my toes bumping the tip of my shoe. When I tried on the wider, bigger size, they felt a bit like clown shoes, but when I tried on my normal size, they felt much tighter, and I understood what he meant. I also explained that I was dealing with Achilles tendonitis and he explained that it might be partially the result of the running shoes I've been wearing which have a thinner sole than most running shoes, which causes the Achilles tendon to elongate and the transition to a thinner sole could be painful if not done slowly. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I tell you that he brought out about 10 shoes for me to try on and reject. I was ready to order a pair for later pick up when another sales guy in the store offered to help return some of the shoes I'd tried on. The sales guy that I was working with mentioned how I liked one of the shoes but the size I needed wasn't available, and sales guy number two said he thought that size might be in a stack set aside in the back. And he was right! So he saved the day and I was able to buy a new pair of comfortable, not horribly ugly pair of running shoes, and I was glad because I would have felt like a jerk if I'd tried on all those shoes and didn't buy anything. I also noticed that they carry Moving Comfort sports bras which are the only ones I buy because they work if you've got some boob-age to control. They also carry a new brand sports bra my sales guy told me about, Panache, which is another line that carries larger sizes and is popular in Europe. While Fleet is a small store, I could see that they had running essentials, so it's a good place to stock up on some basics - socks, Body Glide, electronics holders, Gu gel, etc. Fleet did right by me today and they have parking. Awesome customer service! Scott thoroughly evaluated my feet and gave me the best pair of shoes Ive ever worn!! I love the way they educate you and are not pushy about the sale. I had my shoes for 4 months and the bottom piece started to rise, which I think was a defect, but I took them to Clay to have him look at it and he gave me a brand new pair and apologize for any inconvenience. So as a new runner who used to buy my workout shoes from the clearance racks of DSW, I had to make some adjustments. Side note..The great deals of DSW are awesome sauce just to be clear.. however, I was always injured running in those shoes. So now for "Decatur, off Ponce" Fleet Feet and the difference. Price: you can find something that won't bust the budget and be exactly what you need. Normal price is $100-$200 from what I've seen and purchased for shoes ONLY. Accessories on the other hand.. are cute and plentiful but shop at your risk, they can take your dinner funds, lol! Quality: great shoes! My injuries from running have decreased down to just one thing which seems to be just my body pushing back at the idea of running (Shin splints once this year). Anyway, they analyze your run/walk style combined with your foot type and bring shoes based off that. I love bright colors so I added that request in and was able to find what my feet needed and what I wouldn't mind wearing in a shoe. Staff: the staff are awesome! They have hired new folks for the holidays and they rock as well. They cater to your feet! Atmosphere: feels like a neighborhood bar where everyone knows your name. Now when they are busy you might not get this feeling but don't take it personal. (If there are more boxes on the floor than people in the store, they are busy!) just browse until they see you. Extra: they have free water with little cups, you can actually run around the block in the shoes before you buy them, they have running groups that train you for whatever your goals are, they throw cool parties every so often for top customers (3-4 pairs should get you in this status within a year, which is apparently normal for "runners" or active "walkers"). read more

They know what's up (and down) at this family-owned running store in Decatur. Yes, I'm talking about your arches. Here they measure and individually fit your feet based on several "tests." Turns out my arch is a little low, which means I purchased some sweet looking (and feeling) Asics. {Refer to uploaded picture of my new kicks.} Seriously, they're awesome. I'm wearing them now. Talk about motivation to work out! I'm totally stylin'! Kim joined the family business five months ago when the store opened. She couldn't be nicer and more knowledgeable. I went to fleet feet primarily because I wanted to start walking regularly and was told they were very knowledgeable. I took the treadmill test and was given a selection of shoes for pronation. After about a dozen or so walks the shoes were increasingly uncomfortable. I went to a podiatrist (for an unrelated problem) and showed him my shoes. He said my issue was supination not pronation so my shoes were actually exasperating my problem. I took the shoes in to see if they would exchange or give me any credit at all toward a pair that were correct for supination. It was just shy of 8 months and their return policy says 6. I get that but I also get that the Mgr could have done something/anything to keep a customer, but sadly no. I ended up getting Altra Rivera 2 online and they're perfect. Lesson learned.... read more

Won't be shopping here again. I paid $150 for a pair for shoes (Brooks) after a couple of months the toe box of one of the shoes is caving in on my toes. Both the folks there agreed this was a defect in the shoe. They offered to exchange but only for another pair of same type of shoe in purple because it was the only color they had and it had to be the same shoe. I don't blame either of the associates just following policy. No one wants to pay that type of money to wear shoes they don't want in a color they would never wear. read more

The first reviewer really said it best, but you are definitely going to get the shoe that's right for your foot and the way you run when you come here. I just got back from getting some running shoes there (got to get ready for the Peachtree!) and I was very impressed with how much I learned about my feet! I believe the owner was helping me. He really understood the biomechanics of the foot and running. He used a little model skeletal foot to show how the foot works when it's running. We discovered that my feet are so flat that they go up a whole shoe size when I stand up! I had never known that before. I have also been having some knee pain and he showed me how the wrong shoes could be contributing to that. I probably spent about 45 minutes there trying on a whole bunch of shoes, running outside, running on the treadmill, etc. He really wanted to make sure I had the right shoe and I ended up with a pair of Brooks shoes that I can't wait to try out! Just with a little bit of jogging I could feel the difference in my knees and arches. The store also had a good selection of running clothes, bottles, etc. I will definitely be back to work my way up to that $25 gift certificate (you get it after spending $250). read more

I can't say enough about this place! Love, love, love it! I I give my shout outs to the owners - Clay and Karen - and the rest of the team: Ken, Elaine, Karen, and Lucy (the pup that I always want to bring home with me!) . For the fitting: I had Karen help me on my first fit. The fitting and assessment took no more than 5 minutes. She measured and marked my feet, watched me walk in the store. She then brought out two reasonably priced shoes and had me try each pair on and then run outside a bit to get the feel of both pair, all while watching my stride. I've never had such a comfortable fitting running shoe. It was actually hard to pick one of the two. Run, walk, drink, repeat!: So now that I had the perfect fitting shoe, I needed to start using them. I signed up with their No Boundaries beginner running group in April. The goal was to be able to complete a 5K run. I completed my first 5K (VaHi Summerfest 5K) last Saturday, and I had a blast doing it! These groups meet every Tuesday at 6:15 pm and every Saturday at 8:00 am. The cost is $75 and you receive a No Boundaries running tee, jacket, tons of tips and strategies, you meet others runners just like you, and have lots of fun! I plan on returning in September for their intermediate running group and look forward to completing a 10K! He brought out the most up to date version of the shoe I had purchased through them a year or so ago along with 3 other similar shoes from different companies for me to try. Quick and easy to pick which shoe worked the best for me. Pointed out they were having a sock sale with no pressure. Love the no pressure to purchase and explaining the benefits of each shoe. Asked about their Six Week 5K Training Program and turns out it offers more training and for less than half of the one I tried with the Atlanta Track Club a few years back so signed up for that. read more

Never been a runner, but I have always played sports. Yes, you run when you play sports, but I have always worn basketball shoes, cleats, Tennis shoes, and the like. As I have gotten older my activity level has gone down. Moved into an apartment with a gym and decided I would run on the tread mill. After 2 weeks of running in skater shoes I decided I needed a pair of running shoes. After sharing this story with the people at Fleet Feet in Decatur the lady had me take my shoes and socks off and did a number of measurements and tests. When she was done she brought out a pair of shoes that fit perfect. When I asked what size they were her answer surprised me they were a size larger than I typically buy. But she was right on. They fit great. I asked about other running accessories. She showed me socks, shorts, shirts, water bottles, and other things, but suggested I start with the socks and come back for other things if I find I need them. Ended up walking out of the store with a pair of socks and shoes I love. They have a very satisfied customer and I think you will be too. read more

In a shoe emergency I headed down to Fleet Feet to get some new running shoes. I was greeted by a friendly employee and pup upon entering. He quickly assessed my feet, my arches and sized me for the perfect shoe. Surprisingly this whole process was super duper quick. He brought out two pairs of shoes perfect for my high rigid arches and I found the right pair within moments. The price was not bad either and I even signed up for the complimentary frequent buyer club, so I'll get a discount when spending over a certain amount on my next pair of shoes. There is parking which in Downtown Decatur can be tough, and it's also near coffee and good food, so that's a plus too. Love me some Fleet Feet in Decatur. These guys do know running and helped me pick out a pair for running and a different pair for the gym (I like to keep my indoor & outdoor separate). They match the shoes to your needs and preferences. I know they have a running group during the week, but I've never tried that out. The prices are reasonable and competitive on the brands they sell - and they even have cute & effective jog bras for skinny gals with bounce issues. Came to Fleet Feet Decatur on a whim and have been going back ever since. They were able to get me in the right pair of shoes for my foot and my running style. I haven't had pain in my legs while running since then, which is incredible considering how much pain I used to have running. This was my first time going into a shoe store and getting "waited on" - not since I was a kid and Mom would take us in every year or so to get measured for our growing feet. As an adult I usually just go in some big box store and pick out a pair and try them on to see if they "fit." Well I will NEVER do that again for sneakers. It is VITALLY important that your feet get the best treatment in the sneakers you are putting many miles on. My consultant was very thorough and knowledgeable about bringing a good selection to try on. They also have the coolest machine that spots any physical differences that would play a huge part in WHICH sneaker-type shoe you buy. Because of that assessment revealing my VERY High arches, she recommended I get an insert specifically for mine. I also discovered that my left foot is a FULL SIZE larger than my right! I also found Fleet Feet's prices are in line with Amazon and other online stores I found in my search on the web (AFTER I bought the shoes) so I was pleasantly surprised. Both the sneaks and the inserts were the same price everywhere else. You DON'T pay more for the professional evaluation and quality service. They also have sales and a reward club. I will definitely be back when I take up Tennis again as it is a TOTALLY different shoe you need for that sport. I went to Fleet Feet yesterday to get fitted and I ended up buying a pair of shoes. This is the closest running store to me and I decided to come here after going to a NB store and being pressured to buy a pair of running shoes. I wish I could remember who helped me through the fitting process, but she was so patient and sweet and we found a pair of shoes that worked for me. I also have my measurements electronically for future use. It is probably the most detailed fitting process that I've ever had at a running store, but I'm did. I'm preparing for my first half marathon and I'm still new to running, so I'm glad everyone was patient with me. I probably spent over an hour trying on shoes and I eventually ended up buying a pair of Hoka Bondi 6 shoes. I ran in them today and my feet felt like they were cushioned with clouds. The customer service here is absolutely excellent. Everyone that I've met is very friendly and helpful, and give very accurate advice and feedback about anything running-related. They also host fun runs and other events. I have one complaint about this store, and this is the reason that this Fleet Feet location gets 3 stars instead of 5: Their selection and stock of items is quite limited. They don't carry many different brands, and on multiple occasions they've been out of my size (7) or my husband's size (9) of popular running shoe models. They also have very limited number of items (the store looks pretty sparse because of this), so during peak business times, they can be out of stock of certain sizes of clothing as well. They've always been more than willing to make special orders if they're out of stock, but typically I don't want to wait a few days to try on a pair of shoes or try on a shirt, especially when other local running stores carrying the same items are so close by. I'm very sad that they don't carry a larger selection of items, since the service is easily the friendliest that I've encountered in the local running stores around here. But until I can rely on them having my size, and having multiple brands for me to compare side-by-side (especially in sports bras!), I'll bring my business elsewhere. read more

I visited this store when I was wearing some sale tennis shoes (NEVER A GOOD IDEA), and experiencing a lot of pain in my feet. It was exactly what I was looking for - a place that actually looks at your feet, measures them for parameters that matter, then recommends shoes that will actually support your unique feet properly. I was super impressed. It was months ago but my feet pain went away within a couple weeks at most. Lesson learned. Go to fleet feet for tennies. WORTH IT!!!!! Customer service is excellent. They don't want to just sell you shoes, they want to sell you the RIGHT shoes for you! They really take their time with you, measure your feet and walking/running style, and make sure that you leave with the right fit. I normally wear a size 12 and have wide feet - to my surprise, I got fitted with a size 13. It's a great feeling to be running with the proper size and fit shoe.
