UPDATE: I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SHOE IN THIS STORE.. sorry Jeff I was rocking with you unfortunately, I came into Walter's to use store credit from a pair of shoes I returned in January. I was told when I made the return that all I'd need was my ID -- the store keeps the slip on file. When I gave my name and ID, the associate couldn't find my slip. Instead of continuing to look thoroughly, he accused me of already using the credit or that it wasn't in my name, suggesting I was trying to get over on the store. This was said in front of other customers, which left me feeling humiliated, disrespected, and singled out. I later found a picture of my slip and saw the store had made the error -- my name was written incorrectly on their end. Which was funny because I was told it was my fault and that in all the years the store had been operating, they had "never made a mistake." My name starts with an "S" why was there an "M" on the slip, I have no clue. Even after it was clear I was right, there was no apology or effort to make things right. In that moment, I did not feel I was given the same respect or fair treatment that another customer might have received. This place is a throwback to when I used to buy sneakers in the late 80s early 90s. They had everything all the Dickie clothing, backpacks and every major brand of sneakers. Staff was amazing especially Antonio, he held onto some clothing and shoes for us while we ran a quick errand in a different part of town. Hubby's been waxing nostalgia about this spot for years, and we finally got to check it out with the kids. Nothing like sharing your youth and money with an Atlanta icon. Wall to wall shoes, gear, and urban wear--and not trashy wear. First, when you walk in, you're greeted by the salesmen right away. There were several guys with all kind of sneaker-head knowledge willing to walk you through and answer all your questions and grab the shoe you like. Shawn was our guy today, and we'll look for him the next time we're in town. The prices are VERY good! The sizes are hit and miss, but they had some great choices still available. read more

Impressive selection of athletic and casual shoes, plus some others such as Timberland boots. 'Normal' prices are high, so you'll want to take advantage of their sale prices, which seem plentiful. Good service. Not too intrusive but there when you need it. I don't know where you park. The only times I've been are when I was at GSU on other business. read more

Atlanta institution. They have some pretty nice hard to find kicks however they don't turn over as much as you'd like from a premium sneaker store. It can be extremely crowded and hard to move around - which is something to consider while still dealing with Covid, however the owner has a box of masks and greets you at the door in the event that you forget yours. They are required to enter. read more

Walters has been a staple in Atlanta. It's a hit or miss with them we were in there last week looking for kicks and they had nothing. Thats why I order offline. Compared to bigger cities Atlanta does not have many selections for sneakers outside off foot locker etc and who wants to go there. read more

A long long time ago (IDK ....7 , 8 years maybe?) a friend took me to Walter's. I was impressed by the collection of kicks and hats in this tiny store. We weren't there long because this place was mad packed. Now you know, you are the best sneaker/hat joint in town if I only visted this place once but after ,7 or 8 years later you are still on the brain, and when I pop up in 2012 you are still in business! My feet. Wait, hold up...let me re-phase that. My big dinosaur size 11 feet make it hard as heck to find Nike's in my size. I searched the net, visited stores in my area but the situation is always the same. The style I like is either way out of my budget, only goes up to size 10, is in my budget but they sold out of size 11's, etc..... Then I remembered about that tiny little store that is smack in the middle of dowtown with the bright red awning and Walter's lettered in white on the front. Even though the ladies shoe section was somewhat limited in Nikes, I still found my dream shoe!!! There they were! A pair in my size, my budget, my colors, etc.... that fit my feet better than Cinderella and that golden slipper thing. I was happy as heck!!!!! I even grabbed a Yankee new era hat while I was at it! Hey, I gotta represent my team! Not only are you sure to find something that fits your needs, the sales people are awesome!!!! I wish I could remember the gentleman's name that helped me. For now, I will dub him as Mr. Fine!!!!! No, really.... he was really cute...sorry I digress...back to topic on hand. Anyhoo.... I liked the sales approach of how one person, asked me if I needed anything and once I told them what I needed I was assigned to a sales rep that stuck by me. Most of the time when you go to a shoe store, before you even step foot inside you are greeted with can I help you, oh the women's section is on the last rack in the back, and you are left to find your shoe and hunt for a sales rep to go to the back and grab your size and if they don't have it, send you on your merry way. Whereas at Walters, you are assigned a sales rep that walks with you throughout the entire store to help you find what you want, give you honest feedback, and make suggestions if what you are trying on doesn't fit. Example : How do those feel? Since we don't have women's in your size, try this size in men's , this style is closer to what you are looking for in women's, etc... He allows you time to check out things on your own but always checks back with you to see if you need anything. That my friend is how Walter's stays in business and how EVERYBODY knows about this store!!!!!!! Side note: They have women's, men's , and children's clothing too. Yep! all cramped in this tiny store, Lots of great finds. read more

This place is da sh*t. It has prices that'll rival any other major store, attentive staff that greets you at the front door, and the guys were even helpful to me as a new mom buying my first pair of baby shoes. They helped me via sharing stories about their own daughters, told me the difference in soles, what she needed, and what shoes to stay away from bc they'd be too heavy for her. They were just AWESOME and so attentive. The "momma" of the establishment even came by and marveled at the Sprout/Plum pouch food that I was feeding my baby, and loved on the little one. Craaazy great selection. Felt like i was back in Flatbush. Wonderful urban store and even packed on the weekends. Def a go-to place for shoes from now on. GSU discount? I've been a sneaker head for about 10 years now and I've been to a lot of shops in the southeast and really none of them can hold a candle to Walter's. They were carrying PF Flyers and Nike Blazers for at least a year or two before they blew up and could be found at every Champs and Journeys; they're one of the only stores you can find Puma Clydes in multiple colorways, same goes for the classic Pro-Keds Uptown and royals; they even get a pair of Nile Huaraches from time to time. The space is cramped and you feel like you discovered some kind of secret as soon as you walk in. I've easily spent an hour or two working my way through the clearance shoes, new shoes on the walls, and piles of shirts. Found more than a few gems here too. Bottomline: If you call yourself a sneakerhead and you're in Atlanta, you owe it to yourself to visit here. read more

WALK THIS WAY! When you see this store, you already know that it is the store where granddad, dad and now junior shops. When you walk in, it feels like an old shoe, comfortable and familiar. They have a great selection of boots and sneakers for men. They were varied and colorful and definitely worth a second look, (especially the unique Jordans). While they also carry sneakers for women, they weren't as exciting as the men's collection and were what you might typically see in the mall. In addition to shoes, they also have urban tees, colorful lightweight sport themed tees for summer, shorts and pants. This is a great store for collectors or those who like to stand out with unique footwear. Walter's is well staffed with very helpful people who seem to enjoy their job. read more

My experience at Walters as a gay black man was uncomfortable. I heard a lot about Walters and how allot of atlanta natives like to go shopping there to get nice stylish quality clothes. When I first walked in I seen three people standing by the entrance 2 men and a woman they were all Caucasian talking amongst each other about business and projection sells and marketing strategy. They did not greet me at the door nor acknowledge my existence when I walked in. I started to walk around the store and look at their clothes. The Caucasian woman with the blonde hair blue eyes kept on looking at me and I knew she was looking at me because me and her eyes were locked for a millisecond. She didn't say nothing to me but her stare said enough. She had a look on her face as if she did not want me there, she had a look on her face as if I was going to steal from the store, she had a look on her as if she was stereotyping me as a black man who can't afford decent quality clothes that's not that stylish in my personal opinion. As I continue to walk through the store her in the other 2 men kept looking at me. At this point a black man at the back of the store asked me if I needed help with anything I kindly said no not at the moment. He said okay and walked away. As I'm making my way back to the front of the store where I clearly see the owners I'm assuming still looking at me. The store clerk walks behind me another white man a fat white man at that asked me if I needed help. I felt so uncomfortable just off the stair alone from the owners and now I have another person asking me if I need help and following me around the store. I asked him the price for the shorts that I purchased he said $65 for each pair. In my head I thinking like wow that's expensive. He asked me if theirs anything else I needed help with. I knew he was using a old trick called the spot me trick that retail stores train you to use to stop someone from stealing but that wasn't the case for me but Clearly it was working cause I end up paying for some clothes I necessarily didn't care for but my mind was so bombarded with stares and prejudgment from the people who own the store and work their.I was ready to leave right away cause they made me feel extremely uncomfortable as a gay black man. At this point I tried to reach for a red plane T-shirt that cost 15$ per shirt. And he insisted that he would grab it and put all my clothes on the counter but he didn't do that to any previous people of non color who was checking out when I was looking around.mind you the store is small so you can see everything moving in there. He proceeded to take my clothes out my hand and put them on counter. I felt super uncomfortable. He ranged me up at the register and shouted through out the whole store my price 160$ and some changes so everybody could hear him. I'm not a flashy spender which made me more uncomfortable because I'm in the city of Atlanta well there's allot of homeless people and thefts that goes on. As soon as you walk out the store typically in the A.M you will see how bad the homelessness is. When the clerk said my prices out loud I felt like a target was put on my back cause you have to have money to shop their. Their baseball jersey are 100$ by their self's. On top of that the white owners were looking at me as if I couldn't pay for it. I gave the clerk 200$ cash and got change back. Here's the icing on the cake to for me. When I walked out I looked at the owners and said it was nice doing business with you and I got no response back and not even a stare this time they kept talking over me as if I wasn't their. So I walked out. Do they have quality clothes? yeah but I would never shop there again cause I basically paid to get stared and followed around and embarrassed and I can't stress this enough they made me uncomfortable and felt less then as a person. I was really excited about going into walters the first time and walked out mad and disappointed on how I was treated as a person and a new customer. I don't no recommended black people to shop their and it's clearly were not wanted there. read more

Walter's should be a textbook business lesson to small retail everywhere. They've been around for quite some time, their store is small--not just small, but tiny, hard to move around in even--their location is in old downtown Atlanta which means difficult parking and away from the main shopping areas of Buckhead or Five Points. Unlike Wish, they don't have a fancy, impressive, store, but what they do have is a great, vast, selection of sneakers including a lot of rarer throwback models and some of the crazy color Converse hi-tops and Pumas you won't find very often anywhere. The kind of stuff you know exists, and it's not ultra-rare like some Jordans, but nonetheless is very difficult to find in-store. And they have welcoming, outgoing, and actually helpful service. That, coupled with the fact they now have a web presence and have been mentioned in rap songs and favored by major athletes, makes them THE Atlanta sneakerhead destination. And I believe the store began as mainly an urban menswear store decades ago, and grew into this, but someone at some point saw what they had going on and ran with it and made them what they are today. So small doesn't mean you have to stay small; small doesn't mean your profits remain small, ok? Walter's is living proof otherwise. read more

It's been years since I've been in Walters, but I used to go to this spot every chance I got when visiting ATL. Really good selection of sneakers and streetwear...wide variety of brands available. One of my favorite stores in Atlanta. They sell shoes and clothes that are hard to find anywhere else. You can definitely get some exclusive items out of Walters. The place is always crowded when I go which is a good thing, If the store was whack then nobody would go there. read more
