I took my 8 year old son to buy his first solo (kid) kayak. After researching online the site stated the kayak was available for in store purchase only and in stock. We packed up and headed there. I went to the cashier line due to no one being available at customer service. The cashier stated she couldn't help but would call someone over. After waiting at minimum 10 minutes, a young man arrived. I told him the kayak we were looking for, showed him the sku number and asked if we could see it. After his failed attempt to access their inventory on the comouter he stated they do not have it. I asked if he could check other nearby stores and he said, "You can. You already did that." Well well. I did check online and it brought me to YOU so we see how far that got me. NOWHERE He actually walked away after stating that. No good bye, no help, nothing! Not even an attempt to up sell to a different kayak. I will NEVER go back here. We left, went to Academy and bought a kayak. I visited this store the other day (Cumming, Ga) to get some items for holiday charity gift giving and met one of the managers Lauren. Amazing customer service. She was polite, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. Kudos to her for going out of her way to make me feel welcome and appreciated. Keep her in your hire Dicks because she makes your brand shine. I have a love hate relationship with this store. I generally like the selection and the overall quality and price of merchandise. If you join their membership reward program you can get some decent coupons after spending a little money. The thing that usually kills me is the customer service. I've been to this location more than 5 times and on several occasions I received poor customer service. I've also had a few great experiences, like when I was there for some adult softball gear.The sales associate went above and beyond to look in the back for something not on the shelf where it was supposed to be. So instead of a one star or a five star I'm going with in the middle. Another recommendation I have is to please get more Adidas gear. I will be back to this location. read more

We were looking for a basketball goal. Pros (We're not pros, I mean positives): The Dick's employee told us that the goal we want goes on sale every few weeks, and that if we waited it would be $199 before Christmas. Also, we did pick up a pretty cool dartboard for $40 that lights up and has lots of games. Better selection of stuff than Sports authority. Cons (We're not cons either, I mean negatives): They didn't have the goal I was looking for in stock. It was marked $349, but was on sale for $299. Stock was limited though, and in this case non-existent. I asked when more would be in, they said they didn't know. Called a few days later, and was told "I think we have some". I asked for them to actually check, as it's a 15 minute ride for us, and I'd just as soon not come out if they didn't have any. They had 1 left. But it turns out that it was $50 less at Sports authority ($249) anyway. for the exact same hoop, and Sports Authority had a 42 inch that would do the job for $160. In general, prices aren't as good as elsewhere. They did have a plastic ball return that was $20. At sports authority, they had a better one but it was $40. I do think Dick's has a wider selection of stuff. Worse part of it though, is the name. Don't try to type it in your browser, much less Google it. Took my club in to get re-gripped today. Waited about 30 minutes before anyone showed up at the counter, rang the need help buzzer and asked someone for help...still took 30 minutes. The kid said he could re-grip my club. I picked one out, he cut the old one off and then really struggled trying to get the tape on. It was obvious he didn't know what he was doing. He got another guy to come over and he told me they couldn't put a grip on my club because it was a special grip. Now I have a match tomorrow and won't be able to use my driving iron. Terrible customer service. Bought a $150 Brooks shoes which were falling apart in less than a month. The manufacturer provides a 90-day no questions warranty however wants the customer to speak with the retail store first where they purchased from. So I went to discuss my issue and options. The sales rep who happened to be the same person who sold me the shoes was there. He agreed that it was something that wasn't acceptable and I should bring it up with the store manager. He called Trent, who apparently was in the store managerial duty. He was outright rude and blunt - in his language and tone. He told he didn't know or care if Brooks offered any such thing and he wouldn't care to do anything about it. I explained him why I was there. He declared it's not a manufacturing defect and therefore would not help me. I had finalized a youth bike but given his behavior and attitude left him and Dicks for good. I told him I won't buy from you again given this 'buzz off' attitude, he didn't even bother. Brooks in-turn is helping me. Never again! Well, you see its like this. If you can't find it at Wal-mart, and you don't have an REI, then go to Dicks. Their pricing is on par for the products, but the selection seems to be rather limited on most things in the store. It seems as though they've tried to offer a store for all sports, but they are a master of nothing. They may have a hunting section, but they don't carry a wide variety of ammo- the mountain bike section is a hodge podge of expert gear and noobie junk. There is all this "stuff" just spread out in the store, and you get the feeling that they would have been better off specializing a little more. Not a bad place to shop, but if you can get to an REI or Bass Pro Shops instead, then you'll probably end up better off. read more

Yesterday I took the kids to DICK'S Sporting Goods in search of a soccer net and a baseball training net. A nice young guy in the baseball department helped me out by showing me a particular brand of sports nets that were on sale - 50% off. One in particular was large enough that we could use it for both baseball and soccer. Total win. So this net that was $149.99 regular price was now on sale for $75. Awesome right?! I get to the register and guess what, Javier- who was amazing told me about a shopping event. Now I could get an extra 25% off. This was seriously the best day ever. I was saving so much money on this net that I could now buy the boys new baseball pants, a bucket of balls, some equipment. It was a total jackpot. Fast forward to this morning when Kaleb and I opened the box to find out that the net inside was not the net on the box and was much smaller- 4 x 6 instead of 7' square. We go back up to Dicks this morning and the guy at the register was very helpful despite the fact that there weren't any of the same net left. He looks it up online and sees that we can order it, but it's for the original price of $149 because the sale is over. He says no problem, I'll get manager to order and price adjust. He calls the manager to come up to he front. Now, before the manager even comes up, this kid literally has to argue with them for at least a minute or two as to why he needs their help. So finally after at least 10 minutes this woman finally comes up, introduces herself as Susan and asks what the issue is. The guy begins to tell her about the issue with the net, price and ordering it for us online. This manager, Susan, flat out refused to help us. She indicated that maybe that net was marked down to sell as is. I'm sorry, but A. That whole brand of nets were on sale, not just the one we bought. B. How do say it's priced to sell "as is" when the net in the box isn't even the same brand as the net on the box. Susan would not even discuss alternative options. Declined to reduce the ordering price even though they messed up by selling us a net that wasn't in the box. I explained to her again and again and all she did was pass blame. What in the world is this woman doing as a manager of a store if she can't even apologize for the the mix up and do everything to fix it? I'm standing there in the store, with 3 kids and left with no net. I told Susan I was extremely disappointed in DICK'S Sporting Goods and how they treated customers and that maybe I would just go to Academy sports. Cumming location has the second worst customer service I've experienced. The prize for the #1 worst goes to Dick's in Roswell. To make a long story short: I went to Roswell to buy a gun on sale - so my issue is with the poorly trained firearms counter help Took them 20 minutes to figure out they were sold out Left me standing there until I asked if another location might have it - it was a good deal They stared blankly at me - I suggested we call another store They gave me a phone number so I could call on my cell...myself. No attempt to call for me Cumming store has the rifle I go there and complete background check which is delayed for no known reason They tell me to call back periodically - No attempt to contact me so I can complete the sale I call back once, twice, three times, four times...I lost count after 8 or 9 weeks of calling They continue to tell me background check is delayed Ten weeks later I'm told my application has expired and I have to start all over No one mentioned that this application could expire - I was told to continue to call in for status I ask: if I do this all over again will you honor the original sale price No they tell me - its been too long Really, through no fault of my own...I'm done. This is why I buy on Amazon, Ebay and other online sites now more than ever. I get much, much better service and prices are more than competitive. read more

Sole Elliptical E35, (Review) This elliptical is sold exclusively at Dick's and was purchased shortly after Christmas. It has been approximately 6 weeks since I have been consistently, (approx. 5 days/wk), working out on my new elliptical. I love it! It is very user friendly and super quiet. To get started, I simply turn on the main switch, hit user one and the start button. It's that easy! Once you have a program that you like, you can just save it under your user ID and you don't have to worry about programming it again. If you alter your program, just save it and the new program will become your daily program. Although it is very fancy, I keep it basic. I don't use any of the pre-programed workouts because they are too short, (only 20-30 min). They are designed to give you a quick workout and get you on your way. However, I find the manual programming to be more challenging. The adjustments occur in increments of three starting with level one: (1,3,6,9,12,15), for ramp and tension. Ramp adjustments are on the left arm and tension is on the right arm. You can also control these adjustments from the main display. I started out at level nine for both and for 50 min. This level is not for everyone because my husband is still at ground zero for less than 10 minutes. Poor Baby! I have good muscle memory so no matter how long I slack off or how out of condition I become, I never have to go back to step one. That is what I love about the elliptical, the conditioning seems to last quite a while. I love the design of the movable upper arms because you can hold them from four different sides and vary your workout. The lower stationary arms are great for holding tight, (like on a 10-speed) and increasing your speed or isolating different muscles. I like having options because they keep the workout interesting. Initially I was doing some serious "mouth breathing" but my breathing is more controlled and the workout has gotten much easier. Instead of increasing to the next level, I am now just focusing on speed and technique which allows me to target different muscles. In another thirty days, I will increase to 12 in tension and ramp and start playing with the adjustable incline just to keep things interesting. The console is very clear and it records your miles, time and speed and other functions. Now, I don't look at this while I am working out because I cover it with my tablet. This keeps me from constantly watching the clock because 50 minutes is a long time on an elliptical. You can choose to listen to music from you MP3 or IPOD or download programs from the internet and of course you have a headphone jack for private listening. This elliptical also comes with a heart rate monitor that attaches directly to your chest for a more accurate reading. I would not recommend this elliptical for seniors or those with mobility issues because it is a huge step up and is very tall. I don't get on this elliptical, I literally have to mount it! RESULTS You will definitely see a difference in your lower torso, (stomach, butt and thighs), especially the thighs. Everything is tighter and more toned. I also noticed that when I resumed my power walk, (3 miles), I was able to complete the entire walk with no problems. Yes, my lower body was screaming the next day but I still made it and I actually went back again. Had my body not been conditioned, it would have been much worse. The first six weeks of using the elliptical were really just to get moving again and to develop consistency. I am now ready to take my overall fitness to the next level which means incorporating more exercise and improving my diet. I will then just do a small edit regarding my progress and additional information. I just believe that if you make a major investment in exercise equipment and it doesn't prompt you to make a total lifestyle change, then it really isn't worth much. I am anxious to see what happens next and I will keep you posted! *** Just using the elliptical and making no significant dietary changes I have lost 9 lbs. My eating habits were actually at their worst during this time as I was eating out more and also baking more. read more

With very interrupted help from the sole clerk in the Hunting/Fishing area, I finally selected a lil' stainless steel, 18.5" barreled 12 gauge pump with 3"chamber and open bore. The clerk volunteered, "Sir, you might want to just use #4 shot in that so that your house won't have to be redecorated if you use it." Nah. They Lost a customer today. I was in there at around 3pm to get a pair of shoes. the kid helping me with the shoes was a friendly as could be. but once I tried to get onto the wi fi network they offered thats when the trouble started- For one reason or another when My iPod that does not have a cellular contract found the wifi network it would not let me agree to the terms and sign in to the system- even after I turned off the iPod and turned it back on. The lady at the desk said I needed to have my own network just to log onto to their wi fi? I have never heard of that before. I honestly just don't think they knew what they were talking about. What made matters worse was that I was trying to get online to get a retail me not coupon for 20 dollars off. When I explained this to one of the two girls at the counter they said that unfortunately the coupons were not in their system for them to ring up? ARE YOU KIDDING ME- then why advertise on the site. I ended up buying the shoes with a 10 dollar coupon that they gave me instead of the 20 dollar coupon I wanted to use from Retail me not. I bought a treadmill from the same store a few years ago and had no problems at all using the coupons or getting online. Honestly I'll be going elsewhere from now on. read more

I decided to purchase a shotgun at dicks. I filled out the paper work for a background check. I shouldn't have had to do that to start with because I have a carry permit but the salesman said it was store policy. He came back and said the computer system was down and that it would take a couple days and he or someone from the store would call me when the background check was approved. I waited Two weeks then gave up. during this time I purchased another gun at a local gun store in my town. ( it took 5 minutes and no background check, since I have a carry permit). I waited another week and went to Dicks today. I asked the clerk to check on the status of my paper work. He said he couldn't find it and that it probably had been shredded. This Kid was the worse sales clerk I had seen in a long time, terrible attitude and acted like he would rather be somewhere riding a skate board than working a real job. (very immature and unprofessional) I thanked him for keeping me informed on the status of the background check. And informed him that they just lost a customer. I purchase a gun last year at walmart, before I had my carry permit. it took a total of about 15 minutes for my background check and purchase all total. Apparently Dicks doesn't care about selling guns at all. If they did, they would not require the background check for people who have already been through one. Not too mention the fact that they couldn't pick up a phone and keep me informed about the progress of the background check. Dicks could have made an easy sale, even after waiting a week I was still willing to make the purchase. but after three weeks and no phone call plus missing paper work, and the attitude of the clerk, I'm finished with Dicks. Bought a Christmas present for my son (399.99 yeti cooler) which he wanted to return, I was unable to find the reciept and paid cash for the cooler. Dicks would only give 299 for the cooler even though the cooler never went lower than 399 for the last 6 months and if you know yeti cooler they dont go on sale. There is no way I was going to lose 100 bucks on a new cooler and left the store.... We took the cooler to Bass Pro and got the 399 plus the tax and didnt even buy it there....Bass Pro has gained a customer and will NEVER SHOP AT THE RIPOFF DICKS AGAIN.
