This location of REI is across the street from Mall of Georgia. I came to this store because In my next adventure there is going to be A LOT of hiking, lakes and outdoor adventures. I wasn't really looking for something specific, but for stuff I might find useful. Dicks and REÍ were my first to options. They have a little bit of everything for outdoor adventures. Either hiking, camping, fishing, and more. Their prices are great too, but I think they have better deals online. Costumer service is great. There's a guy in the shoe section and he was fantastic and very helpful. This was my first time here, and I'll definitely be coming back. Normally, I love REI. So REI has a pretty high bar for itself to begin with. This location during COVID, though. Crushed it again. There is the sweetest man sitting outside offering hand sanitizer and masks and operating the automatic door for you so that you don't have to touch a THING to enter. The location offers amazing pick up service where they bring out the item to your car. They have prominent signs for 6ft social distancing. They have hand sanitizers near the backpack station. And they have nice and friendly employees who make you feel like you are visiting your friends' store! read more

Undecided on whether to buy a mountain bike or a road bike.. I headed to this REI location as I was told that September is the month to buy bikes as REI has a huge end of the year clearance sale.. 2 visits here and helped by 3 great, knowledgeable, patient sales persons in the bike section and 3 hours later I end up with the Scott Speedster S30 road bike.. On the first week I was leaning towards the Marin Bobcat 29er mountain bike as I did not know where I was going to ride the bike.. Waited a week... realized it was going to be more of road trips.. so went directly to the road bike sections.. It was a tough decision between the Cannondale and the Scott.. Anyways went with the Scott for the higher price and a level higher on the shimano gears as they did not have the Cannondale in stock locally in store.. The guys at the bike shop ROCK! 14/10 do recommend. I bought my Ghost trail bike from them years ago and the cassette needed to be replaced, they popped on a new Shimano one in like 15 mins, and only charged me for the part, no labor fee... I will be taking my bike here from now on, will be getting my upgrade/replacement parts as well as a tune up. Never dealt with such honest, friendly, helpful/knowledgeable retail associates like these guys. A+!!! read more

We keep coming back for the odd and ends of travel and outdoor adventures... Most recently a mouthpiece for my nalgene water bottle. Lots of great camping gear and we've been eyeing some sleeping pads that are lightweight and hiker-friendly but the epic prices stop us.... so otherwise we like this store and location. For over 20 years REI has been my provider and outfitter for all things done outdoors. I used to have to mail order ... then came the internet and the Atlanta store ... now a store in Buford! That's practically my back yard! HOWEVER ... REI is not cheap ... and that's a good thing. It's better to spend a little more, and get a quality product ... than it is to buy more than one of a cheaper product. Go for lasting value. Recently we kitted out several family members for a thru-hike on the AT. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and had experience in the outdoors. If they said that something would work ... or wouldn't ... you could trust their answer totally. One shining star? Patrick with his AT experience as a thru-hiker. Knowledgeable, personable, and friendly ... willing to share his experience and help you make the right choices ... for you. Add this to the famous REI refund policy ... and you have a winner ... and I have been voting there with my dollars for over 20 years. read more

Walked in at around 823p on a Wed evening with my family. Did some research on some Electra Townie bikes. Wanted to buy 4 of them. 2 adult size, 2 kids (1500+ purchase). Received a cold hello from a lady that was cleaning in the front. Went straight to the bikes, my daughter got on one and we literally stayed in that area for TEN minutes. I watched 3 ladies near the cashier area. No one looked our way, acknowledged us, etc. Even if they were unable to help, they could have came over and advised us on who could help us at another time. LARGE RETAILERS, this is why your customers are going to smaller boutiques and online. The shopping experience is HORRIBLE!! All of these ladies should be FIRED. They didn't even have the decency to say goodbye on our way out. I purposely turned around and watched them when my husband was putting up the cart and unloading my daughter, they didnt even look our way. Plain HORRIBLE. This is the first time I walked into an REI and will definitely be my last. Obviously, do not walk into this place when these employees have checked out to leave for the day, which in this case started at 824p. However, I am a firm believer that poor customer service resides at any hour of the day, just like outstanding customer service. If it's in them, it's in them, no matter when you walk in. Just plain appalling, hope a regional reviews this and the video tapes from this evening!!!!! read more

I really like REI merchandise . However, the sale signage in this store is very misleading. Even though the discount sign reads "markdown taken at the register" EVERY item we picked up was the regularly marked price. Sales staff could not have cared less. Just be honest and stop wasting people's time. read more

this is a well layed out store department wise. bikibg, canoeiing, kayaking, camping, climping and cookiing are all segregated into their respective areas so everything is at hand and easily perused. if you can use it outdoors htey have it. it's quality merchandise too that will last more than one lifetime. even with abouse this stuff is well put together. clothiing, boots, sleeping bags tents, even ice coolers the list is endless. plesant staff are experienced and knowledgeable and eager to assist their customers. my problem is that if i go in for one thing i come out with a buggy full. read more

MORE SHOES PLEASE! I love REI for all of the cool things that they carry for outdoor enthusiast. If you enjoy camping, biking, rafting, rock climbing etc. and need any type of gear this is your store. It is always well staffed and never over crowded. However, I do wish that they would expand their shoe department and offer more athletic/hiking options. Most stores only carry items according to the season but I would love a store to carry athletic sandals on a year round basis so that if you are traveling to a warmer climate, you have options. read more

This REI goes above and beyond with every experience. They go out of their way to check on you and are very knowledgeable. The staff genuinely cares about helping you get the gear that best suits you. The store is always clean and tidy and very organized. They can fulfill all of your outdoor needs. Lots of cool stuff and very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Too helpful? Maybe sometimes. Too knowledgeable? NO! I was looking for a backpacking stove and rather than talk me into the most expensive one, ($130), they explained why the $35 dollar model was almost as good. Awesome! read more

I have shopped at many REI's across the country. I am into cycling and this one just doesn't carry a large selection of cycling ware. So I go to Performance which is nearby. I bought a Mountain Bike there early in 2014 and because of injury did not ride it much. I finally thought I should take it in for the free, first time tune up. Did that in early January. Okay, weather was cold so I didn't ride it until today. Terrible job of adjusting the gears. Kept slipping as I was climbing. I won't be taking the bike back there. read more

This was my first time visiting an REI, so I was excited. I wanted to try on some Merrell hiking boots, but was looking for something non-leather since I am vegan (Merrell has a couple they offer). A saleswoman helped me and brought two sizes for me to try on. I told her they fit great but that I would probably be buying a different type of Merrell hiking boot online since the store didn't carry any of the non-leather type. I simply wanted to get a feel for sizing. Her demeanor instantly changed as she told me she didn't receive many requests for a vegan shoe, in fact, not at all in her three years at this store. When I tried telling her about the vegan boots Merrell offered online, she completely cut me off, saying "I know." It's as if she only cared about getting the commission, rather than offering any type of genuine help or engaging in conversation. Had she at least been nice, I might return to the store to buy something else. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in my first experience here and most likely won't return. read more

Brandon (store manager), Louis (master bike fitter/tech), and the cycling support team at REI-Buford are FABULOUS!!!! My new Cannondale bike was misdirected by the shipping company. Brandon very easily could've just told me that the bike had not arrived and would call me when it did. He knew I wanted the bike for a race and called me every day to provide an update. When it did arrive, Louis was AWESOME in completing my fitting and very patient in making sure I was happy. Brandon then called the following day to make sure things went well AND provided a discount to compensate for the hassle. The customer service and make good MORE than made up for the frustration of waiting for the bike. If you ever need bike service (or anything for that matter) from this REI location, I have no doubt that Brandon and his team will go out of their way to make sure you are pleased with your purchase. If there was a 10 star rating, I would give it to them. EXCELLENT service! read more
