Jabo's Ace Hardware Coppell

I have been shopping at Jabo Ace Hardware in Coppell for over 30 years, so I have a long-standing…read moreappreciation for this store and the people who work there. Today, that appreciation grew even more! I reached out to Jabo's on behalf of Reach Out Honduras as we were gathering donations for our annual fundraiser and Jabo's Ace Hardware was very generous in supporting our event. We are so grateful for their willingness to support a cause that is helping provide educational opportunities and a brighter future for vulnerable children in Honduras. The manager I worked with, Mr. Spalding, was kind, gracious, and genuinely happy to help! As an extra-special surprise, we discovered that he was actually a former Mockingbird Elementary student where I taught years ago! What a fun connection and such a small world! It great to have him back in Coppell. I know businesses often hear from customers when something goes wrong, so I wanted to make sure Jabo's heard from someone who had a genuinely wonderful experience. Betty and another store associate helped me with another purchase. They were helpful, friendly and fun! After 30 years of shopping here at Ace Hardware, I can honestly say that their commitment to their customers and their community is something worth recognizing! Thank you, Jabo Ace Hardware, for your generosity and for having such wonderful people representing your store. Your kindness is very much appreciated! P.Taylor

I'll never shop there again. Over a decision as simple as making a key. They are now prioritizing…read moremaking 4-5$ over taking care of local people. I have shopped there for 12 years, perhaps 2-300$ a year. I brought in a blank key I had purchased many years ago and asked them to make a copy of my house key. They told me I had to buy a new blank or they couldn't do it. People shop at places like Jabos to get the service you can't get at the box stores. The young man couldn't figure out how to operate the machine and wouldn't admit it. Then he got a lady who gave me the "you have to buy from us" routine. Neither were friendly. Then the manager finally came and gave me the same routine. Finally I asked him if he was going to be able to help me. I asked the question in a way that got to the point and made him decide. He stammered around and never did answer. At that point I did say "shit" to which he got immensely offended and started pointing his finger at me. "The new machine won't let us". Surely there is an override and in the rare event that there isn't, I hope the owner takes note. Needless to say, but I won't be returning to the local small business because of two things. Poor attitude and poor service. As the manager of a small store, you have to make big decisions. they made me feel as though I was at one of the big box stores. The sad thing is that I shop there because I had come to enjoy and expect the service, in a world that service is hard to find. Before you judge me, let me ask you. If it was your store which decision would you make. Make a key or 4-5$?

I grew up going to an old ACE store on Lamar back when that was still a Kroger, hardware store, and…read moreWolf's Nursery. In my memory, the entire Cooper/Lamar intersection was gold. I'm sure it wasn't because not a single thing I listed has been there in the last decade. This leads to a natural inclination to shop Westlake on Park Row. It's a great for when you don't know what you want. There's guys in there that actually know stuff. And not just from a computer trainer or a bad YouTube video. A lot of the time, these employees had experience with the thing you're trying to do. I used to work at Lowe's. I know everyone advertises experts to help you, but I had walked in with part-time seasonal help experience at a local nursery and was by far the most knowledgeable person in the garden department. The least qualified was our department "specialist". While there were guys working with me that had excellent knowledge of the product, most were young guys trained by a computer. Customers with no absolutely no knowledge and a very simple problem were easily helped. An actual problem was most likely never getting solved. Not the case here. I remember having a goofy old ceiling fan with a light that had a peculiar switch in it. An ACE employee helped me out to the best of his ability. We made several educated guesses based off his knowledge and it worked perfectly. What's more, he was interested in knowing if we solved the problem. He asked me to call in and confirm that it worked so if anyone else brought in the same sixty year old multi-function switch, he could better help. It was awesome. That's the kind of service I get every time I go to Westlake.
