I was waiting for a long time for this place to open and then that day came and I was probably one of the first people in there. So I'm just going to get to the point the beers that I tried were just okay in my opinion and I that what makes this place better is that they have TBG bbq. That is a brilliant idea because TBG by itself is a major money maker!!! So I'm actually giving them 3.5 stars I just wasn't impressed with the beer. Hidden gem in Oceanside. I really like the vibe of this brewery. The location is in a parking lot with seating outside only. Covered picnic tables that are spread apart. A cool spot. The customer service is great everyone there seems to enjoy their job. The beers are delicious. I had the IPA, pale ale, and sour all were delicious. That boy good restaurant is located inside of this brewery. You must get food along with your flight or beer, which isn't a bad thing. I really enjoy this place and will be back to this brewery most definitely. read more

The space itself is beautiful and you can tell that they have worked hard to pay attention to all the little details. It's also of pretty good size so could easily work for groups. They also have the spin off location of That Boy Good within the brewery, so no worrying about if there is going to be food available or what it may be and if you will like it. *See my review for them separately* The important part: THE BEEEER So unfortunately they were out of the other beers I wanted to try, so I only stuck with the saison. They were out of both the pale and the cream ales. Womp womp. Though it sounds like they should have the cream ale back on this week, as well as I believe a blonde coming through shortly. So I will be back at some point to try those and hopefully they'll be there. Staff was friendly but not super talkative. Were open to answering questions we had about the space and the beer but nothing too fluffly beyond that but were talking with other people at the bar quite a bit. read more

Ok let me first start off and say I don't drink... anything alcoholic. I stopped drinking in 2007. However, If I did drink... I would REALLY like to try some of the brews they have here at Northern Pines. I own a business nearby and I go by here all the time. The atmosphere inside is very rustic in the setup and I feel comfortable right away... even when i wasn't drinking I got to watch some good football games on their big screen TVs... which is pretty cool bc I don't have cable at home. The staff and owners are very friendly. This isn't s corporate bar... these guys take pride and brew their own stuff and u can physically talk to the owners on any given day. I've been super tempted to try some of their brews they just LOOK like they bleed taste and flavor. All in all... it's a great hang out spot and a place that is sorely needed in Oceanside. read more

The Northern Pine Brewery in Oceanside has been in the works for a number of years. They've had a brand and an internet presence for as long as I've been in San Diego, at least, and had done various home brew-type events to build a following. Now they are finally open. They wisely choose to co-locate with a southern barbecue company, so you can get (really good) food here, too. By the way, the Northern Pine name comes from the partners' Oregon roots, so there is a "north and south" thing going on between that and the barbecue. The room is big and open, with lots of light coming in from the doors and large open window. The barbecue place is on the left as you come in, and the bar takes up most of the wall opposite the door. The main room is filled with low communal tables, and the brewing system is tucked off to the right. Someone on Twitter thought a picture of the place looked like a school cafeteria, but it really doesn't resemble that in person. It is a comfortable, well-decorated room. The bar is an impressively chunky piece of tree, and the feature wall above the taps is made from split logs. I had very good service when I was there, a little after lunchtime on a weekday, both at the bar and at the barbecue place. In addition to walking me through the beer menu and talking a little about the brewery, the bartender recommended the deviled eggs, which I thought were excellent. My only qualm about the food-beer combo is that barbecue can overwhelm your palate with spiciness and rich flavors, so maybe beer tasting should come before rather than after eating here. I visited just a couple of weeks after their opening, so they didn't yet have their full slate of beers available. What I did get to try was very well made and flavorful, miles ahead of where most breweries are when they first open. In that respect they remind me of another already-awesome-on-opening-day place, Protector Brewery in Miramar. While you are here, make sure you visit the bathroom. There's a fun mural depicting the stages of the brewing process on the walls around the room, that ends just above where you "recycle" the beer and make room for more. Northern Pine is already good and I have a feeling it won't be long until we are saying they are very good. All the elements are in place. A good location, a well-designed interior, good service, food, and beer that is well-crafted right out of the gate. Some of the previously existing Oceanside-based breweries will need to put in some work to compete. read more

Not the worst brewery I've been to. The place has a decent atmosphere, but the help isn't particularly noteworthy for their kindness or helpfulness. Not to say they were rude or anything; just nothing special. My main reservation stems from the following tale (it's a pretty long story, so the TLDR version is: they falsely advertise a beer online that they don't actually sell, and haven't for at least a month): I recently finished a pretty long deployment to a few nasty Middle Eastern countries. The guys I worked with and I would often pass time talking about the things we wanted to do upon our return. One of the things I'd often fantasize about was picking up a growler of some good, heavy beer and reclining in front of a movie or bingeable TV show. I searched the beer menus of nearly every San Diego-area brewery in the fleeting moments of internet connectivity, and resolved to get a jug of Northern Pine Brewing's (NPB) "Breaking Tuns." The night of our return, I double checked the menu on northernpinebrewing.com, and swung by the beer hall. It wasn't actually on tap! My fault for not calling ahead, I suppose (although in the modern era, you'd think a burgeoning business would have a vested interest in maintaining a robust and accurate online presence). Fast forward to a couple days ago, a little over a month after the incident that I have since named, "The Great Yuletide Disappointment." Out of curiosity, since the description of Breaking Tuns made it sound so delicious, I thought I'd check to see if perhaps it had rotated back through. This time, having been educated by heartbreak, I decided to call. First though, I dropped by the website again. There she stood: Breaking Tuns Imperial Stout! I'll include a screenshot, taken today, of what I speak. I called so as to spare myself a second iteration of the GYD and asked whether or not the stout was indeed on tap. The guy who answered the phone said no, it wasn't, but mentioned they had a different kind of beer. I told him that as of just a few moments before the start of our conversation, their online beer menu had Breaking Tuns listed at the top. The guy had clearly never even heard of it. He further showed no interest in updating the menu, even when I conveyed my suspicions that it hadn't been updated in over a month. I blame his parents, who were probably apathetic and passed the genes on to their son. You know what? I was doing pretty well, in terms of having a pretty balanced profile when it came to positive versus negative reviews. Before I started writing this, I marked Northern Pine as a three star business. After proofreading my review, however, I'm inclined to reduce it to two. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a brewery in San Diego County. Why waste time on a place that treats the details of their business like an afterthought? Who's to say the same ethos isn't applied to their brewing process? Update: I've had time to reflect. NPB isn't so bad. Three stars is fair. read more

I REALLY wanted to give this spot more stars. What more do you need other than great beer, great service and BBQ?! I tried two brews: salt-n-pmpkn (pumpkin gose) and idahome (IPA with American Two Row and Idaho 7 hops). Delicious beers. I could just keep drinking.... the service was super friendly also. Now for my super critical POV: there's no signage. Coming down Mission, the GPS put us in the parking lot but the building wasn't clearly marked. After ONE YEAR, you would think they'd have this worked out. And finally, the rustic bar ruined my favorite sweater. Loved the decor and the barstools were uber comfortable, but one exit from the barstool resulted in a snag on the bar. Super sad face! read more

We shared the combo (enough for 2, maybe 3 if your not super hungry ) Pulled pork was tender and really good and large chunks (not served bread so it's low carb friendly ) Ribs were good, sauce was nice and had a little bite ; we liked that !! I have to say though, and maybe it's on purpose ..,the music is hard rock and lot of screaming and such..,not conducive for lingering very long . We ate quickly to leave . I've visited Northern Pine Brewing on three separate occasions. The most recent was Saturday around 6 PM. At first I was the only one with a small child, but then many others arrived with their babies, toddlers, and older children. I saw coloring books and crayons for the big kids and there is plenty of space for strollers and the like. It can get a little chilly if there's a breeze so make sure you pack sweaters for you and baby. The beer is delicious. We tried a few new ones last night so it seems they have a rotating tap. There is self-serve water for those who don't drink. The food menu is provided by That Boy Good - a yummy barbecue joint. The macaroni and cheese is great, the pork and tri tip is always flavorful, and I've never had a disappointing meal. Finally, I can't say much in regards to the customer service as I'm always tending to baby while my husband orders everything. The taproom location is fantastic in my humble opinion and the beers they are already putting out are spot on. Just a quick review on the place, beer and crew as the TBG food operation had not started when we visited. Beer - damn good! That's why these brewers needed a bigger place I guess. They're getting started with their staples and there's something for everyone (IPA, pale ale, stout, etc.). I tried three and enjoyed them all, can't want to work my way through the rest. The place is cool. Plenty of room, open space, big open window lets the air flow. Tall ceilings, big clean bathrooms. Its gonna smell so good in there once TBG fires up the smokers. Staff - met pretty much everyone working Saturday night and they were all genuinely nice. Beer geeks and veterans, what's not to love? This is a very cool hangout spot in Oceanside. I'm a big fan of the art direction of the place, especially the wooden tasting counter. With That Boy Good being next door, the brewery will also be serving BBQ in-house. On to the beers: The brewery currently has 5 beers on tap: an amber ale, a cream ale, a standard porter, a west coast ipa, and a single malt single hop rotating series. If you're a fan of more traditional beers, this place is perfect for you. The Golden Horizons IPA stood out the most to me. Overall, a great place to get food and drinks. Terrible atmosphere! Children all over the place and no parents watching them. When we asked one guy if he was a parent of the little animals, he said it was a family style environment. And just ignored them more. The brewery should have stopped that shit show,but it didn't. Since it now seems to be the thing to have children birthday parties in breweries, at least have some rules so the rest of the customers can enjoy a beer. I guess I will just wait til you allow all of those kids climbing in and out of the window, and someone falls and cracks their head open in that "family style" atmosphere. Northern Pine is an up and coming brewery in Oceanside that has now been open for a little over a year. They were smart enough to connect with TBG BBQ, knowing BBQ and beer are always a winning combo and this way they don't have to worry about the extra work of food and can focus on brewing delicious beers. Let's be honest, not all of their beers are delicious, to me, and it's unlikely they will all be to any true beer connoisseur. BUT most days they have such a great selection you'd have to be a real picky Percy to not truly enjoy at least one of the many they usually have one tap. Without a doubt- one of my favorite things about NP is the atmosphere, it's is not stuck up at all, has such a relaxing vibe, and is very family friendly. Behind the bar area are games for adults as well as games and sometimes coloring books for kiddos.
