This is a wonderful business! So caring! I had a screendoor recently installed and lost the key (it locks from the outside). Not sure how to proceed, the friendly folks at Lowe's suggested I take the lock to NORTHSTAR LOCKSMITH. I started to take it apart, but got stuck. I called for help. They gave the phone to a technician in the office who was able to help me figure out what I did wrong. He texted with me later while he was on the road to check in. This wonderful person is Frederick. He also check on me afterwards too in order to make sure I got it back in the door. I brought the lock down to their Northern Lights Blvd store and the gentleman there was helpful and patient. He also did me a solid and instead of charging me $25 for the normal keying fee, only charged me $14. As a person going through some financial things right now, I was SO appreciative! Someone ended up with a key to our apartment that shouldn't have. I called at lunch to ask about services and pricing, and the gentleman (I believe his name was Fred) on the line was precise, friendly, and knowledgeable. He didn't try to upsell me on services I didn't need, and he was so awesome he managed to fit me in the schedule the same day I called. He came in and rekeyed all of our locks and even managed to get a deadbolt that was having issues working again. He wasn't sketchy, creepy, or concerning when he came in either (if you are a woman like me you've met at least one person who has matched those descriptions). 100% if I ever have a problem with locks again these are the people I will call. read more

I broke a key off in my car bike rack. The guy looked at it for less than 5 seconds and said he could only drill it out. The best thing he did to help me was send me across the street to Able Locksmith, where the guy took about 90 seconds to extract the broken key. I mean, at least he was honest I guess? read more

Came here for two separate jobs--one business and one personal. Having them duplicate a key was easy enough. Took less than 5 minutes to dupe 20 copies at $3 each. Was able to get them engraved per the original key as well. The personal matter of getting a lockbox open was just as quick and easy. Costs $5 to $25 depending on the job, according to one of the employees. The only disappointing thing about the service was the reveal. I was really hoping for some Pulp Fiction-esque moment but that was definitely not the case. Bummer. I would've even settled for having my face melted off à la Raiders of the Lost Ark. read more

Shortly after moving into my new house, the roommate and I left on a hike, both under the impression that the other had keys. I suppose it's somewhat comforting to test and know for certain that your house is virtually intruder-proof, but it's also nice to be able to get in your front door at 8:30 at night. Enter NorthStar. I called two locksmiths for a quote, and NorthStar was more than $40 cheaper than the other guy. Done! My parents are business owners and have gone to this company for a while. My step dad usually deals with them. Today my mom went in and was treated so badly. Scoffed at her when she insisted on looking up previous purchases on their account etc. After my step dad got on the phone and tried to explain, the person "helping" them said go somewhere else under his breathe. All 3 people working wouldn't try and help my mom. I'm sure if my white stepdad came in to begin with there would be no issue. They would have gave them the same services as before. 4 stars for the woman who helped schedule my service. 0 stars for the rude man that refuses to send me a receipt. I manage a rental home in Anchorage but live out of state. The home needed work on an interior door and lock. North star responded and fixed the issue. I provided a credit card number for payment. I called to request a receipt and a man that answered the phone said I needed to come in and pick it up. I explained why I couldn't do that and he couldn't have cared less. I need this receipt to document a deduction from someone's security deposit, not for shi*s and giggles. I've left a couple messages with him but the bookkeeper is too busy to call me back. I shouldn't have to pay my on site staff $30 an hour to pick up a damn receipt. I manage rentals in a couple states and this is the first time I've ever known a company to simply refuse to provide a customer with a receipt. They could take a picture and send it to me for all I care. But that would require someone there to call me back. Never heard of such a thing. Won't ever use Northstar again because of this one rude guy. Looking back at other reviews, seems I'm not alone. He's a disaster for Northstar and should probably be fired. read more

I've been here numerous times and have always gotten good service. I've had several keys made, and bought key accessories on their recommendation and been very happy. They gave me good advice on having a chipped-key replacement made, and most recently offered a simple solution to a 5" back-spaced door knob. We wound up getting a great Schlage set that was exactly what we'd wanted; another locksmith across the road had fumbled around for 30 minutes to find us a couple of ugly options, making excuses and offering to custom-order us a set for 3 times the price. read more

Absolutely terrific customer service! So impressed! We snapped the key to our cash drawer, with the keys to the safe and all the cash & change inside - so after being told by another place that it would cost $200 minimum and they couldn't be there until late, they suggested we bring in the broken key - and they were able to make a copy of the key from the pieces! Yesterday, I called NSL to schedule an appointment to have locks installed. I picked NSL because on Yelp, it had better ratings than Able Locksmith. The mannerism of the person who took my call was such that I was reconsidering my decision. Even so, I scheduled an appointment. The man gave me a quote if $80-100 and said that they would show up between 2:00 and 3:00 pm today. At 3:00 pm today, NSL had not arrived. I immediately called to find out the cause for delay. The person who answered the phone said they had no service order for me. I assured him that I could send a screenshot showing the phone call history. I then informed him I'd be calling someone else. I then called ABLE LOCKSMITH. The gentleman who answered the phone was very professional. I explained the work we needed done and he transferred me to the dispatcher. The dispatcher arranged for a locksmith to come to our home right away. He's installing the locks as I write this. He's amazing and very professional. I am very pleased with ABLE LOCKSMITH'S service. I do NOT recommend North Star Locksmith (NSL). I repeat. I do NOT recommend NSL. read more

Walked in and was treated rudely by the counter person before I could even attempt to spend money there. He was obviously more interested in reading his newspaper than selling me a product or creating a customer. I hope for his sake that he is the owner otherwise I would find someone who will treat patrons with some respect and a good attitude. Needed a key copied, wanted to go to Able who I normally go to, but they closed at 6pm, so I came here because they're open until 6:30pm (convenient, right?) No. At 6:15pm some older guy with a ponytail and a leather jacket just shook his head and wagged his finger at me even though the hours are clearly posted on the door and it is clearly not closing time. I try to give my business to local businesses, but now I'm going to Walmart or Fred Meyer because he closed early. He rode off on his bicycle at 6:23pm. Next time if Able's closed, I still won't come here. It literally takes these guys 20 seconds to copy a key. read more
