I visited Northstar Locksmith to have a replacement key made for a cabinet. I provided both the cabinet manufacturer and the key number. The employee who assisted me cut a key and told me it "should work," but also stated that if it didn't, I was essentially out of luck because they do not provide refunds. Not surprisingly, the key did not work. The next day, I called to explain the situation and inquire about having the cabinet re-keyed. The woman I spoke with indicated there may be another option and encouraged me to come back to the store so they could explore it. When I returned, I was greeted by the same employee who originally cut the key. After explaining what I had been told on the phone, he insisted he had cut the correct key. When I asked why I was receiving conflicting information and whether I could speak with the employee who had spoken to me on the phone, he threw the key back at me and said he couldn't help me. I then went to Able Locksmith and explained the entire situation. They immediately noticed that the key I had been given was different from what was needed. They cut a different key, with the proper teeth pattern, and it worked perfectly on the first try. What frustrates me most is not that a mistake was made, mistakes happen. It's the complete lack of customer service, unwillingness to troubleshoot the issue, and dismissive attitude when I returned seeking help. Based on this experience, I will be taking my business to Able Locksmith in the future and recommending others do the same. read more

Great customer service the staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. If they can't help you they will direct you in the right place

They are easy to work with and quick to respond. The technicians have been knowledgeable and courteous.

These guys are great!! they came out and took care of me. Great energy, as a local company owner I would recommend these guys.

I have dealt with this business numerous times and have always had a positive experience. Their pricing is reasonable and the staff is very knowledgeable. It is a family business and I have had interactions with all three of the owners. Corey (sp?) is definitely the best one to interact with. The other siblings are awesome, also, Corey has been my best interaction thus far. The latest time was an actual service call requiring a "break in" the service was surprisingly quick. Thank you Corey! read more

This is a wonderful business! So caring! I had a screendoor recently installed and lost the key (it locks from the outside). Not sure how to proceed, the friendly folks at Lowe's suggested I take the lock to NORTHSTAR LOCKSMITH. I started to take it apart, but got stuck. I called for help. They gave the phone to a technician in the office who was able to help me figure out what I did wrong. He texted with me later while he was on the road to check in. This wonderful person is Frederick. He also check on me afterwards too in order to make sure I got it back in the door. I brought the lock down to their Northern Lights Blvd store and the gentleman there was helpful and patient. He also did me a solid and instead of charging me $25 for the normal keying fee, only charged me $14. As a person going through some financial things right now, I was SO appreciative! I got home and reinstalled the door lock & tested out my key which worked like a charm (or a key, lol!). Thank you Frederick and all the kind people at Northstar Locksmith! read more

Quick response time. I've used other locksmiths locally, but none have been as reliable. They've more than earned my repeat business over the years. Price is reasonable and definitely good value for the money spent. read more

I highly recommend this business. They were very professional and helpful. They showed great patience with my visits. They had the product that I needed. read more

Someone ended up with a key to our apartment that shouldn't have. I called at lunch to ask about services and pricing, and the gentleman (I believe his name was Fred) on the line was precise, friendly, and knowledgeable. He didn't try to upsell me on services I didn't need, and he was so awesome he managed to fit me in the schedule the same day I called. He came in and rekeyed all of our locks and even managed to get a deadbolt that was having issues working again. He wasn't sketchy, creepy, or concerning when he came in either (if you are a woman like me you've met at least one person who has matched those descriptions). 100% if I ever have a problem with locks again these are the people I will call. read more

I have used NSL for a long time. They are a family run business and I always prefer to go to get my keys made here - I never have to worry if they will unlock the door. I have gotten my home re-keyed and bought a keypad lock that I love. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Good advice, tips and considerations on all jobs. Appreciate their solid work and customer service. read more

Called for help and they gave me advice over the phone for free. Friendly and helpful! They said to call back if I had any other questions or needed anything. Highly recommend!! read more

I broke a key off in my car bike rack. The guy looked at it for less than 5 seconds and said he could only drill it out. The best thing he did to help me was send me across the street to Able Locksmith, where the guy took about 90 seconds to extract the broken key. I mean, at least he was honest I guess? read more

This place was the only one to give me information on a coin op washer, we had lost the keys, they did not do the work as it's not in their scope of practice but they did give me a reliable number to call, ( the others did not know) they also were right on track as to how much it would cost, Will use them for future locksmith requirements, Thank you read more

Shortly after moving into my new house, the roommate and I left on a hike, both under the impression that the other had keys. I suppose it's somewhat comforting to test and know for certain that your house is virtually intruder-proof, but it's also nice to be able to get in your front door at 8:30 at night. Enter NorthStar. I called two locksmiths for a quote, and NorthStar was more than $40 cheaper than the other guy. Done! The technician got here right when he said he would be, and we were in the door in less than five minutes. Excellent customer service that won't cost you an arm and a leg! read more

Came here for two separate jobs--one business and one personal. Having them duplicate a key was easy enough. Took less than 5 minutes to dupe 20 copies at $3 each. Was able to get them engraved per the original key as well. The personal matter of getting a lockbox open was just as quick and easy. Costs $5 to $25 depending on the job, according to one of the employees. The only disappointing thing about the service was the reveal. I was really hoping for some Pulp Fiction-esque moment but that was definitely not the case. Bummer. I would've even settled for having my face melted off à la Raiders of the Lost Ark. read more

My parents are business owners and have gone to this company for a while. My step dad usually deals with them. Today my mom went in and was treated so badly. Scoffed at her when she insisted on looking up previous purchases on their account etc. After my step dad got on the phone and tried to explain, the person "helping" them said go somewhere else under his breathe. All 3 people working wouldn't try and help my mom. I'm sure if my white stepdad came in to begin with there would be no issue. They would have gave them the same services as before. Sexist, racist, I don't know. I'll let you decide... WORST PLACE. Terrible customer service read more

I highly recommend North Star Locksmith. He is really nice and very prompt. If anyone gets locked out, I highly recommend this Company.

I have gotten reliable key copies from them for years. This year, Fred fixed my deadbolt so I wouldn't have to buy a new one, and Yin went out of his way to help me install a new doorknob, for which I am so grateful. These guys are the best! read more

4 stars for the woman who helped schedule my service. 0 stars for the rude man that refuses to send me a receipt. I manage a rental home in Anchorage but live out of state. The home needed work on an interior door and lock. North star responded and fixed the issue. I provided a credit card number for payment. I called to request a receipt and a man that answered the phone said I needed to come in and pick it up. I explained why I couldn't do that and he couldn't have cared less. I need this receipt to document a deduction from someone's security deposit, not for shi*s and giggles. I've left a couple messages with him but the bookkeeper is too busy to call me back. I shouldn't have to pay my on site staff $30 an hour to pick up a damn receipt. I manage rentals in a couple states and this is the first time I've ever known a company to simply refuse to provide a customer with a receipt. They could take a picture and send it to me for all I care. But that would require someone there to call me back. Never heard of such a thing. Won't ever use Northstar again because of this one rude guy. Looking back at other reviews, seems I'm not alone. He's a disaster for Northstar and should probably be fired. read more

Called this business and they were unable to help me with what I needed but the kindness and compassion shown to me while they assisted me in finding a business that could help me is enough to earn my future loyalty. The lady I spoke with was so very kind and thoughtful and made sure that I was taken care of even though her business couldn't do it, and she recommended local businesses that could help, and thats good for all of our small businesses around Anchorage! Thanks North Star for the help today! read more

After my horrible experience at ABLE locksmith, went to these guys. They were awesome! In & out in 5 mins. My new favor locksmith.

I've been here numerous times and have always gotten good service. I've had several keys made, and bought key accessories on their recommendation and been very happy. They gave me good advice on having a chipped-key replacement made, and most recently offered a simple solution to a 5" back-spaced door knob. We wound up getting a great Schlage set that was exactly what we'd wanted; another locksmith across the road had fumbled around for 30 minutes to find us a couple of ugly options, making excuses and offering to custom-order us a set for 3 times the price. read more

Absolutely terrific customer service! So impressed! We snapped the key to our cash drawer, with the keys to the safe and all the cash & change inside - so after being told by another place that it would cost $200 minimum and they couldn't be there until late, they suggested we bring in the broken key - and they were able to make a copy of the key from the pieces! They went out of their way, took great care of us and it cost $4. I will use this place for everything I can in the future. read more

Yesterday, I called NSL to schedule an appointment to have locks installed. I picked NSL because on Yelp, it had better ratings than Able Locksmith. The mannerism of the person who took my call was such that I was reconsidering my decision. Even so, I scheduled an appointment. The man gave me a quote if $80-100 and said that they would show up between 2:00 and 3:00 pm today. At 3:00 pm today, NSL had not arrived. I immediately called to find out the cause for delay. The person who answered the phone said they had no service order for me. I assured him that I could send a screenshot showing the phone call history. I then informed him I'd be calling someone else. I then called ABLE LOCKSMITH. The gentleman who answered the phone was very professional. I explained the work we needed done and he transferred me to the dispatcher. The dispatcher arranged for a locksmith to come to our home right away. He's installing the locks as I write this. He's amazing and very professional. I am very pleased with ABLE LOCKSMITH'S service. I do NOT recommend North Star Locksmith (NSL). I repeat. I do NOT recommend NSL. read more

Walked in and was treated rudely by the counter person before I could even attempt to spend money there. He was obviously more interested in reading his newspaper than selling me a product or creating a customer. I hope for his sake that he is the owner otherwise I would find someone who will treat patrons with some respect and a good attitude. He wasn't even wearing a mask and there was no plexi-glass partition. The other employees I saw were also not wearing masks. What a joke. read more

I was locked out of my house late in the evening on a Saturday no less and they answered the phone immediately and came within 5 minutes! My door was opened quickly and all of it was a speedy process. I highly recommend North Star Locksmith!! Would give more stars if I could. read more

Needed a key copied, wanted to go to Able who I normally go to, but they closed at 6pm, so I came here because they're open until 6:30pm (convenient, right?) No. At 6:15pm some older guy with a ponytail and a leather jacket just shook his head and wagged his finger at me even though the hours are clearly posted on the door and it is clearly not closing time. I try to give my business to local businesses, but now I'm going to Walmart or Fred Meyer because he closed early. He rode off on his bicycle at 6:23pm. Next time if Able's closed, I still won't come here. It literally takes these guys 20 seconds to copy a key. read more

Fred, Gina, Yin and Corey are some of the nicest people you'll meet. I was in property management in Anchorage, so I utilized their services frequently. They always treated out work order with the upmost importance. We had a few clients who preferred other locksmith vendors for their properties and every single one of them failed to meet the service standards of North Star. Thanks for everything guys! read more

We asked Northstar to re-key our condo complex. Very happy we did. Cory was great. He cut the keys in advance, so his time on-site was very quick, just changing the locks. He was prompt and finished ahead of schedule. Happy and friendly - a nice guy to deal with. The cost for their services was very reasonable. Plus it is great to be able to support a family-owned and operated business in Anchorage. read more

I snapped my Land Rover key in half, the tech pieced it together and created a working copy at a good price.

I called around 730pm and they have an on call person named Fred! Fantastic! He offered to come to where I was that night or work something out the next day. Even called someone else to consult about my situation. I ended up coming up with a solution so didn't need their services but GREAT customer service and availability! read more
