We received the very best prompt service, courtesy honesty and respect from the owner of this business, Jim Slatton. His family owned and operated a fireplace shop / ( started with his father) but he's closed that and down- sized nowadays. An Interesting tidbit is that, years ago, one of their employees experimented and invented the first version of a gas log. Anyway, I researched many companies and options and was very impressed by Jim's quick and respectful response. And, in addition, he works on Saturdays which really works for us because my husband and I both work during the week. from researching, I discovered that apparently, other companies tack on up charges for everything beginning with seaIing off the tube that burns the wood so that it could be converted to gas. Jim does not tack on these Kinds of extra fees although he did recommend that we wait for the seal to dry before going forward the following Week. When he showed us what he had for log choices, he could sense that I would accept one but l wouldn't be 100% happy. So, he told my husband thatI I wouldn't be happy and didn't want to Install the gas logI set he had. I called him and then he came out to install it and surprised me. He had Iooked through his storage warehouse and found the exact color and size that I preferred and had wanted. Our experience with Jim was, by far, the most down-to- earth, honest and prompt. Jim is a highly skilled/ efficient and kind professional whose expertise was highly appreciated and valued. Made an appt with Jim one week ago to come out and inspect our fireplace this morning at 10:00am. At 10:25 he hadn't yet arrived so I called to see if he was running late or had car problems, etc. He said that he didn't have our phone number to confirm our appt. and, since we made the appt. "so long ago", he decided not to make the "60 mile round trip" (we live 10 miles away) in case we wouldn't be there. Whatever happened to looking up our name and address to find our phone number? Had an appointment for this company to come out and inspect our fireplace which had a chimney fire several years ago. An hour before he was scheduled to come out he called to tell me that he sold all his gas logs over the weekend. However, that was not the reason I wanted him to come out. He told me to "calm down" and that he would still come, an hour later than we scheduled. Then he called me back to say the charge would be $175 for the inspection, something he never mentioned when we made the initial appointment. I just cancelled him after that. There are too many other places I'd rather give my business to. Very unprofessional. If you want a salesman, call this company because I got the impression that selling products is his expertise. read more
