We got bids from 3 fireplace kit installation companies. One store owner said "don't worry honey, we'll do a good job and you'll be warm". What?!! Another installer came with a tape measure but nothing to capture the info (no phone or even pencil and paper), then Albert from FireTech came. He was on time, took photos and measurements, did a hand drawing noting the shape and tile, and is the only one who wanted to see the outside chimney. He explained the process, sent his measurements to tbe fireplace store and us and a formal bid via email the same day. Guess who we chose? Yup! Fire Tech is limited in their services and seem to lack attention to detail or communication skills. Their inattention cost me $50 for nothing. I need my current wood burning fire box replaced. I called Albert, explained the situation and e-mailed him photographs and dimensions. I understood his desire to conduct a consultation and agreed to the $50 fee. After a couple of consult reschedules, he arrived and informed us that he couldn't do the project because the existing fire box needed to be removed. Duh! That's why I called him! I explained the situation over the phone! I sent him pictures! The existing fire box is clearly there! Why couldn't he tell me this over the phone to save him the trip and me $50? About a year ago I have Albert and his crew to install not one, but two inserts in our house. I waited that long with the review because I wanted to make sure everything will work as it should and inserts perform and I even ordered a chimney cleaning guys to clean and check if they see anything wrong. Nothing! Inserts are perfect, liners and topping are in a great shape and look nice too. So I do highly recommend this company. I really like that they were easy to reach and they were resourceful too (I needed a small roof repair and they gave me a contact info of a great guy). Terrible communication. Waited seven days for them to get back with parts for my Mendota gas fireplace. Finally called them and they told me the pilot issue had been fixed. Went to my rental and the fireplace was still in pieces on the floor. Called Firetech back and was told the parts werent made anymore. Firetech said I needed a new fireplace that they could install. For $5k. Internet search I found my parts at large fireplace supply. After telling Firetech how bad their service was and that I intended to review them, they called back and said they found a "retrofit kit" for my unit. Days later the parts they sent were the same ones I found online at a huge markup. The gas valve was $565 from Firetech and $289 online. Avoid Firetech at all costs. read more

Fire Tech was selected to replace my fireplace at my property in Mission Beach CA. They quoted on a model that was far different than the one being replaced. They provided poor communication with myself as the homeowner and with the contractor who was requested to do the site preparation for them. They were extremely inflexible with their scheduling including refusing to come on site even to discuss matters when I flew in from the east coast specifically to be on-site to facilitate the process for 4 complete days. This resulted in considerable delays and cost overruns that I was forced to absorb. I felt that since they got their money, they really didn't care. I advised my local property manager to consider alternate providers for fireplace work at my property and other properties they manage. read more

Our gas fireplace was working just fine and then all of a sudden one day it wouldn't start working. Called a few places around town and they couldn't come for at least 3 weeks and was charging $150+ just for diagnosis. Due to the long wait times the companies recommended calling Albert at Firetech along with a few other companies which may have shorter wait times. Albert was the only one available within the next 3 days. Albert came over the very next day, on time, diagnosed and fixed the issue within half an hour (faulty override switch plus a short in the on/off switch). Total cost was less than $100. Albert gave a quote to have unnecessary work done. When I showed him the recommended installation manual and that no other installer or cleaner for the previous 10 years deemed his work necessary, he went on to say "I don't feel comfortable installing it that way" ....he did feel comfortable collecting a trip fee and giving an outrageous quote. I could hire my uncle in the New York Union to fly out and install it for less than he was willing to charge. I had scheduled an appointment approximately 2-3 weeks ago and had them call today to tell me they couldn't make it until 4:00 or later, just not sure. I had a 10:30 - 12:00 appt. In addition I had Albert, the (OWNER) check out my problem without any success. He did however charge $150 to clean the glass!!! He called later to tell me that it was probably the control valve but I should replace the module too, he just wasn't sure. Long story short, his quote was approx. $680 after paying him $150 for nothing. Today his helper Mario called and was rude and sarcastic. Take my advice and find a reputable service company. Called tech center for the company that manufactured our fireplace with a minor issue. After 30 minutes on hold, I explained the problem, they told me to call repair service. Local fireplace store referred me to Albert at Firetech. He returned my call within 10 minutes. When I gave him the same explanation that I gave to the manufacturers technician, he diagnosed the problem over the phone. Even called back later to make sure issue was fixed. I called Albert out to clean my fireplace when he was done it didn't ignite. He told me it would cost about $300 to $400 in parts plus the labor to fix it. I have been in the remodeling trades for over 30 years so i decided to take a look my self. With in seconds I discovered loose wires from Albert vacuuming.Once i connect the wires it worked fine. I feel bad for the homeowners who do not have the knowledge and would have to pay that amount for his carelessness. When i called to tell him about his mistake and that i fixed it Albert offered no refund. Nice guy and did a great job cleaning it. He quoted be $90 just for the appointment (a two hour block), and "minor repairs", which is a very loose term in my book. Then half way during the appointment, changed his price to $150 + $80 for the part that he needed to order to complete the fireplace work. So we went to from $90 to $230 just like that. He said he will call back same evening to confirm when the part will arrive and to make the next appointment. It took 5 days to get a hold of him, then I made another appointment a few days later.
