We had our chimney swept in 2022 and the cleaners advised us not to use our fireplace as there was a "gap in the flue pipe" that might cause a catastrophic event so sadly we haven't used our fireplace in almost 3 years. Since last year's rains, we noticed a substantial leak in our fireplace and after some research on Yelp we found Michael at Chimney Champ. We had a thorough discussion over the phone, he gave me a reasonable quote for service and we scheduled an appointment for him to come out. Received a confirmation text the day before and a courtesy call when he was on his way. Michael was considerate & kind upon arrival - he took off his shoes before entering our home, I didn't even have to ask! After inspecting our flue pipe with his camera, he determined our fireplace/chimney was safe to use, thankfully! He then went onto the roof and discovered there was a void between the chase cover & chimney pipe where water was seeping in and the silicone sealant had worn away. He removed our decorative shroud because it didn't allow for proper ventilation, installed a storm collar and sealed all the gaps/holes. We were able to use our fireplace that night and it just so happened to rain a couple nights that week with NO LEAKS!! Mike was very flexible as to availability as we were still living 1.5 hours away from our new property. Mike was very upfront with me as to our property having two "Rampart" chimneys. Mike cleaned and inspected both Chimneys. He was able to show me where they were cracked in the breastplate and both unsafe to use. Had appt w/ Chimney Champ for 12pm on Friday Oct 9th for an estimate on fixing our chimney cap. Before our appt I had been texting Michael about our needs for a chimney cap. I sent him pics. He said, your cap is fine, you need a chase cover. OK - great. As our text convo continued, I told him we have a gas fireplace. He says, (. . . I'm almost sure you have a wood burning fireplace but in your case you happen to have gas logs installed." I told him, no, we have a GAS fireplace. Mind you, he has never even been to our home yet. He then tells me to look for a tag on the inside of our fireplace. I tell him there isn't one. He says there has to be one. I insist there is Zip/Nada tag. Then he calls me. He proceeds to be very arrogant on phone and tells me "I don't believe you" when I said there is not tag on fireplace. When he gets to my home he looks in my fireplace and keeps saying, "um, umm, yeah, umm . . . ". (??!) and I'm like, "Do you believe me now that there is no tag? When he was ready to leave, he told me that the charge would be $125. He never told me this, or texted this to me and it is not anywhere on his website. If his arrogance and small-mindedness is any indication of how he runs his business, then no thank you. Take your business to someone who is respectful and humble. read more

Mike came buy our new house last week. We wanted him to install a chimney cap. He noticed that there were a couple of loose bricks at the top and recommended that we get those repaired before he put the cap on as we would have to get it taken off and added again, which would create additional expense for ourselves. He referred us to a contractor that can repair the bricks and we will be calling Mike out to install the chimney cap as soon as the issue is resolved. Chimney Champ was called to provide a second opinion after another less reputable sweep tried to sell me $1800 in service that turned out not to be necessary. Mike looked at the chimney chase, confirmed that adequate air flow was present, and explained the whole diagnosis to me in detail. He offered to do the work - at less than 1/3 the price of the scammers, but clearly indicated that he thought there was absolutely no need to do so; instead he did an inspection and actually did fix the one real issue (at no charge!) that the scam artists before neglected to identify. Mike demonstrated integrity that is rarely seen, as well as knowledge of the trade, and true concern for his customers. His attitude and politeness was pleasant as well. Mike, owner of Chimney Champ, was awesome. On time, charged $119, no up-sell, inspected the gas-line, chimney stack, and flue. Cleaning the chimney is a little dirty to say the least, but Mike used paint tarp/canvas to cover my wood floors and surrounding fireplace mantel. About 2 hrs later he removed all the dirt and debris (mostly cobwebs), he also vacuumed the fireplace removing anything that feel down. Awesome work Mike!! read more

My wife scheduled to have Chimney Champ clean out chimney after buying a new house in Del Mar.
