Nordstrom is my ground zero for wallet cleaning. I recently came to terms with the fact that I am now too old to be shopping in the BP section. My realization of this was a very cold, sad day but it was followed by a brighter look into a more age appropriately dressed future. Enter 3rd floor accessories and handbags, designer collections, and shoes. To date, I've spent countless dollars and what seems like an infinite amount of hours in this Nordstrom. I've found that it can be pretty difficult if your not a wasp-y mother of 3 to get the attention of a sales associate unless you're in shoes. In which case, I can recommend a shoe angel, named Eric Hansen. Eric is an older gentlemen who is quick on his feet and eager to help... more so than the other employees at this location. Eric has assisted me with a number of finds including my gifts for mother's day and few treats for myself. Eric has my shoe size memorized and is so on top of his game that he could be my very own shoe stylist. One star because of Nordstrom using the delivery service "UDS". Unfortunately, I am about to stop ordering from Nordstrom.com since this is now the third issue I am having with this TERRIBLE excuse of a "delivery company". A simple google search will show you the exasperating number of 1 star reviews for this delivery service. Filed an official complaint with Nordstrom today and will no longer order anything from them unless item(s) has the option to be picked up at their store in a day or two. Won't risk future orders being delivered by UDS. The store itself is great...but customer service goes hand in hand with online customers receiving orders in a timely manner without their packages being thrown at their doorstep...along with, you know, actually RECEIVING their purchases. read more

She calls me up with this information and shares her vision for the theme - "Christmas at the Oscars". My response, "Okay?" She then tells me that, "as the Matron of Honor I am to wear a sexy, black evening gown with a thigh-high, side split." Again, my response, "Okay??" My days are SUPER LONG, I have a horrible commute, and I haven't had time to shop. The wedding is on Dec. 23rd! So, on a whim, I walked in Nordstrom last night and shared my story with Jackie, my new personal shopper. After a hearty chuckle and some witty alliteration, she started grabbing dresses. God has blessed me in lots of ways - two of my blessings sit on my chest and make shopping a chore. Well, Jackie took this as a challenge and in 30 minutes she had found the perfect dress, the necessary shapewear, and shoes. All at a price point that didn't make my heart stop! I am LOYAL Nordstrom customer. I've been living in Seattle for the past seven years and have benefited from awesome customer service in the store's hometown and headquarters. I just recently moved back east. I visited the store in Oakbrook and was less than impressed. My critique is specific to the Jo Malone counter. I waited a while for service because the counter was very busy when I arrived. That's not what disappointed me. What did disappoint me was the feeling of being a nuisance to the staff. Like I said, I am a loyal customer and have spent a lot of money over the years in Nordstrom (current level 3 customer). The sales associated seemed more interested in other people in the store, seemed irritated when I was asking about different fragrance matches, and tried to convince me to buy large sizes of different products even though I share numerous times that I travel weekly and prefer smaller sizes that meet travel restrictions. She also seemed to want to be done with me.. maybe that's why she suggested not to wrap my fragrance in a box. Disappointing Nordstrom!! This review is more for the MAC cosmetics counter than Nordstrom. I have had my makeup done here a few times and Alex is simply the best! She is so nice and does such an amazing job at my makeup. I come in with ideas and its like she knows exactly what I want done. I've had a few diff people do my makeup here (and its always good) but Alex just seems to do makeup exactly the way I prefer. It can be stressful doing your makeup for events and I'm glad that I can come here and depend and trust on her to make me look great. I'm not sure if employees get any kind of recognition from Yelp, but hopefully they do. Thanks! Tip - Always give yourself enough time because you will always have interruptions from shoppers. The ladies at the bridal shop are total gems, a pleasure to work with, I'm looking at you Maryanne! My childhood best friend is getting married and had us (the bridesmaids) meet up with her at Nordstrom for a bridesmaid dress fitting. She coordinated everything with Maryanne and booked an appointment. When we showed up Maryanne was bubbly and ready to assist! She pulled out several dresses that the bride to be liked for us to try. She helped us try several dresses until we all found one style that the bridal party liked and agreed on. Fast forward a couple weeks Maryanne emailed us all to make sure we booked an appointment to get fitted for our dresses. I scheduled mine, got fitted and purchased my dress with more than enough time for it to arrive prior to the wedding. The whole experience was easy, positive and fun! Since this store has been remodeled, I find I just don't enjoy shopping here. I find it very cold and unwelcoming. The men's department is now on the first floor and that has changed the restroom situation, too. They had to add a "family" restroom since it services the restaurant. It seems there is minimal stock, not conducive to browsing, even the shoe department is sparse. It is just too bare bones for my shopping taste. I was lucky to find one pair of black tights. Sooooooooooooooooo, shopping online will continue for me. They have free delivery and free returns ~ so it is almost as good as instant gratification. read more

A really big store with a great selection. I especially like the shoe department, where the workers are all very attentive and helpful. They can pressure you a little at times, though. I love Nordstrom. Definitely love their free shipping and free returns. For the most part, I do get a lot of things online because they don't carry what I like in the stores in Illinois... with that being said, today wasn't a hazle free return event which gets it its one star. I've never had a problem with returns using just my number but today for whatever reason the lady needed a cell number, then the actual credit card used. I ended up looking up my account on my phone and making it easier for her that way. She claims it was because I didn't have a receipt. I received boxes without delivery slips. It's been happening a lot. Please have your staff take some customer service trainings and diversity classes. I do believe to know what her real issue was... And have your stocking staff remember to put in the delivery slips. read more

Be cautious when you come here for alterations. Take pictures of your garments before giving it to them. I had a skirt altered. The hanger that was used left a stain on my cream colored skirt. Needless to say, I will have to do a lot of running around just to get the stain removed--meaning either driving all the way back to Oakbrook which is far from me to have them clean it, or search for a dry cleaner that can remove it. They refused to provide any sort of compensation or credit. Icing on the cake, they refused to take responsibility and acted like the stain was already there to begin with! read more

depends on the department you go to for the service you'll receive. But men's department, by far and away, THE best help you'll receive all over the store. The makeup and shoes would be second, followed by purses, and then women's clothing. It's nuts how poor the women's clothing help is, I think it has to do with leadership, the expensive clothes and the bridal and gowns department needs some help, I bought something for close to $1K up in bridal/expensive women stuff department and the help was sub par, they literally smashed my very expensive coat into a bag literally smooshing it, and then i went down stairs bought my husband one as well...and the lady who helped me in men's department flew off the handle at how terrible my expensive cost was bagged and given to me that she asked who helped me and told me there is "troubles in women's" department....yeah..no shit. i wish i could leave 0 stars after the experience i have just had in this store. came to nordstrom this afternoon looking for sunday riley moisturizer. I struggled for a few minutes to find it and finally asked an employee where to find it. She showed me and brought it to the counter until i was finished shopping. when i was, my card didn't go through as i realized that i needed to make a payment (oops! im human, sue me). once i made the payment and went back to the desk she finally stopped texting to notice me, and we completed the payment. she was rude, short with me and all around I had a horrible time today. I honestly felt like returning the items so that she didn't get the credit for the sale because she didn't help me. she made me feel lousy. she also tossed my items in a walmart bag shoved them in my arms and continued texting. Holy handbags! I've carried my Marc Jacobs crossbody bag many days in a row for over a year now. It was well worth the pricetag, despite the feeling of "I'm buying this even though I really can't afford it right now." The handbags department is huge and you won't leave without finding something you like. I tend to forget about Nordstrom after shopping at the smaller boutiques in the mall, but I love looking at their shoes and handbags. Some of the employees are a little too watchful, making for an awkward "Pretty Woman" feeling like I don't deserve to be there. And although this statement can be applied to whatever you want to apply it to, such was the case on my most recent trek to the Land of Nordstrom. (One of many.) My go-to spot for current go-to items rarely disappoints me. What did I find at the Mecca which routinely keeps me in the realm of a "Fashion Do"? The most delicious Grenadine colored peplum sweater with a bit of sparkle, 40% off as well as a softer than soft color block cashmere animal print, 50% off, that was spiffy enough to make me purr. Non cloying and efficient service rounded off my exemplary experience. Was I finished? I thought so until a subliminal Rebecca Minkhoff thought propelled me toward the Holy Grail of purses. Yes, the Morning After Bag (MAB) almost non existent in this color of sage beckoned. Was I dreaming? Tears all but came to my eyes. This one final indulgence. And I was spent. After this type of experience some might take a drag on a cigarette. I came, I saw, I bought. And even though there is no where to go but down for Nordstrom, somehow they will be up for the challenge. Nice! read more

I've been shopping at this Nordstrom location for years. As far as department stores go...Nordstrom really hasn't changed in terms of quality merchandise and selection. (I can't say the same for Macy's..) I don't shop here often. In fact I shopped here more decades ago than I do now. BUT - when I'm looking for unique, high quality, voguish shoes or boots I can always bet Nordstrom's shoe department will have something for me because they offer a HUGE selection. Maybe not always on sale, maybe on the pricey side - but for unique and chic - I don't mind spending some extra money once in awhile....yes, once in a while...it's a great investment after all isn't it? when I think about how long these shoes have lasted me...it's worth it and lady's, you know what I'm talkin about here!!! There's nothing a 'shoe fix' can't cure....(or a hand bag, ring, necklace, jacket, perfume, etc. for that matter, but that's another story). I also think they have the largest perfume selection of all department stores...and I happen to be a perfume 'collector" (not hoarder)...I have my favorites, but always like to mix it up and I'm a firm believer that certain scents are for certain seasons and since I happen to live in Chicago; 4 season's = 4x's more perfume for me! (could this be an excuse to buy more perfume? well.. possibly...) If you can't find a new fabulous fragrance...check out the counter here... I've always experienced top notch customer service..as I should if I'm going to spend lots of $$$. While the sale's associates in most dept's do work on commission, I've never felt they were 'pushy' in trying to sell anything - including their apparel, which I happen to like as well but find better deals elsewhere....such as Nordstrom Rack! I went to Nordstrom a couple of days ago wanting to buy something from Bobbi Brown, and just to look around a bit. I was dressed in yoga clothes, with a baseball hat, and no makeup...and an ankle brace...a bit frightful, I'll admit. I got major attitude at the Bobbi Brown counter....it was as if I was putting her out by asking to buy some concealer. I was disgusted. Got absolutely no help in the fitness-wear section {a clerk gave me the head-to-toe scan, and turned around and kept talking to her friend}. I've been shopping at this location since 1992 and as a rule, I wont go anywhere else to shop. For one, I am NOT what you'd call "off the rack" so finding clothing is VERY difficult for me. I've NEVER had serious problems with Nordstrom- EVER. You want some history? Here you go: 1. I needed to get some pants taken care of years back and was told that things would be done by 8:PM. I arrived at 7:30 and just decided to just look around. I let them know I why I was waiting and they went to find the pants for me. They weren't ready by were almost done. In fact, no one could find where my pants were (the tailor had to find another bag and hanger because he ran out). They apologized for me that the pants were not ready 15 minute before they were supposed to. 2. As I said earlier, I am not a guy who can shop off the rack. My arms are fairly long (especially for a man my height & build) so shirts are pretty hard to find. I can't tell you how many times the great people have helped me over the years. They've found things in other retail locations throughout the country if they ran out (finding a Bobby Jones shirt in Dallas, a leather coat in New York, etc). That's a review in itself. The staff understands what good will is. Find a rep that you really like and stay with him (I've been with Tony F. since my early days shopping here; all the folks are great people). If you want a shirt made for you, the prices are pretty competitive from what I've seen elsewhere. My experiences in men's formal wear, men's shoes and men's fragrances have been about equal to the men's sportswear. For reasons that are obvious, there are some parts of the store I can't help you with right now. I may pay a bit more (unless you go to the semi-annual or annual anniversary sales events where you can REALLY save) but you get what you pay for. read more

Oh Nordstrom, how I love you and hate you. The product line is amazing and I can always find something perfect. They have fantastic high end pieces for those times and days when I "need" to splurge and more reasonably priced products for when that will do. The only problem with the Oak Brook Nordstrom is much of the staff. I'm so turned off by the attitudes of many of the employees that I have taken most of my business online. On those rare occasions when I have to go in to the store, Lucy O. in dresses and Payton in shoes are my go to girls. There comes a time in every woman's life when you realize the bra size you've been wearing for the past decade is incorrect. It happens to the best of us! I had an awful experience at Victoria's Secret when I was younger, so I never bothered to get properly fitted. The sales associate at Nordstrom was awesome! She brought me into a dressing room to measure, then asked what I was looking for. A few minutes later, she came back with the style I like, as well as a few different ones. At VS, the sales associate shoved a box of bras under the dressing room door, leaving me to figure it out myself...even though the reason I wanted a fitting was because I needed HELP! Here, the SA stays in the room with you to help adjust the bras and explain the details of the item. She was super friendly and it wasn't as weird as I thought. Afterwards, she brought me over to the sections of the styles I liked to show more color options. She never pressured me to buy anything which as great. I did make a purchase because hey, I'm wearing the wrong size and need new ones! I was impressed with the personalized service and highly recommend their lingerie department for a fitting! I love this place. My favorite is the 2nd floor. Shoes, jewelry and MAC cosmetics. I was there over the Thanksgiving holiday and stopped at the MAC counter to turn in some containers for recycling and to get my reward: freebies. Well, I'm getting over this cold and couldn't stop coughing as I approached the counter. (Yes, I had my mouth covered with Kleenex) It's busy as heck with women milling about vying for the stylists attention. I was having such a coughing fit I could barely answer, when someone stopped to offer me help. She immediately asked if I would like some water! Shocked, I nodded yes. And this busy stylist weeded her way through to the other side of the room to find a cup of water for me. Well, when she came back, I thanked her profusely and remembered her name "Jacquelyn". That's not good customer service, that's good upbringing. Such kindness made my day. read more

For the most part, a good deal of the merchandise is out of my league. What brought me in here was a gift card; I really did not mean to fall in love with the place and walk out with a line of credit. There is one floor here almost all dedicated to makeup and perfume. It is a wet dream for a cosmetic junkie like myself! Every possible brand from your basic department store brands (Clinique, Lancome, MAC, Philosophy, Bobbi Brown) to your super-powered fancy stuff (Kehiel's, L'Occtaine, LaMer, Origins, Burberry) and a whole bunch more in between. All the brands are organized in neat little square sections, with at least two associates in each area to help you. (A big shout-out to the Burberry lady who helped my pick out the best red lip color on the planet- Military Red!) Check out is done by PDA in each area, so lines are pretty much nonexistent. I really do feel that my relationship with Nordstrom will blossom! read more

It shouldn't be, but it is. My favorite part of the suburbs is easy access to this wonderful Nordstrom. The customer service here is wonderful and the selection is very very comparable to the one in the loop; though of course there'll be more downtown. When buying a dress for my brother's wedding, we realized a size up would be slightly more comfortable. They had it shipped for free, quite quickly, from a Nordstrom in California! The return policy is AMAZING. I bought a pair of toms suede bootie wedges that were ultimately dreadfully uncomfortable. After wearing them twice I decided against them and they refunded me without question. Everyone who works with you one on one treats you like a human being, which sadly, is very refreshing. The nordstrom card is a no-brainer. Free shipping from online. Of course you can buy the outfits cheaper elsewhere (and sometimes I do), but I feel the service and convenience is worth the nominal differences in price. This review is not for the main department store. I still give those products and their customer service 5-stars. This 1-star review is for the shoe shine guys in the men's shoe department. I went a couple days to get my shoes shined. The price is $2.50 which is a great price. I always give them $5 and this time was no different. However, this time after I paid the guy and started to leave he saids, hey you didn't pay me. He concludes by saying if you don't want to pay me, don't worry about it. This was a very strange and awkward situation. I was about to get ripped off by the shoe shiner at Nordstroms! I was annoyed by it. I later called the department and spoke to the manager. He did apologize and say he would address it with them. Whether he does or doesn't I will never know. I do know that I won't be going back to Nordstrom to get my shoes shined. read more

I've never gotten better service from a store than I get from this Nordstom, and it's the reason I continue to swallow my common sense and pay for what they sell. Not that they don't have a good selection of high quality goods...it's just that stuff is expensive. Case in point, I had a dry cleaner (Napervalue Dry Cleaners...see my review) ruin a couple of pairs of pants by stretching them too much during pressing, tearing out around the corners of the back pockets. I took them in to Nordstrom, since I got them there, and they would have the correct color thread (and probably good tailors) to see if they could be repaired. I was very upfront about the dry cleaner mishap. Instead, the salesman immediately asked how old they were, and when I told him maybe 18 months, he said, "That's ridiculous. Pants shouldn't do that. Let's get you another pair." Now *that's* customer service. And it makes it worth the price. Would I have been able to buy a pair of nice pants for half the price of one pair at Nordstrom? Maybe. But I can guarantee the other store wouldn't have replaced them for free when someone else ruined them. On top of that, I've had several occasions where I decided I needed the fit on items changed, and the tailoring is always free, even when you bring it back several months later. Never mind that tailoring is free in the first place (I hate buying things that require tailoring, like hem to length pants, and finding out it's $15 to have them hemmed. If you just tacked that on to the price, and didn't tell me about it...I'd never be the wiser. But when you line-item stuff like that, I feel like I'm being nickel and dimed.) This kind of service is stuff I just don't expect, but I guess I should take for granted here. I'll be going back for a long time. read more

Were it socially acceptable, I would live here. This is my favorite store bar none. I think the customer service is impeccable, they really go out of their way to make certain you are satisfied, I appreciate the no hassle policy with returns, and they have awesome promotions and sales. I have not tried their personal stylist, but I have gone to quite a few make up events including their trend shows which from what I can gather is a HUGE deal, personally I'm not into all that but it is great there are just a billion people in attendance. They are great about letting you try things before you buy them, and their cafe on the ground floor is one of my favorites. Amazing experience! Can't recommend them any higher. Had a bump to start my experience, but by the next visit for my suit, everything was fixed, the experience was like you would expect. I am pleased Nordstrom's is where I went for my wedding suit. read more
