All in, it came to around $200. The guacamole is a real standout. The camote asado (charred sweet potatoes) is my favorite - great char, well-seasoned. The lemon rice that comes with the fish was also great. One genuinely great thing about this place: everything is gluten-free, which makes it an easy pick whenever family visits since a few of them can't do gluten. That said, I'm personally a big flour-tortilla person, so if that's your preference too, just know this isn't that, but I still really enjoy coming here regardless. Solid, reliable, and great for gluten-free dinners.

Everyone from the hostess, and all the wait staff were so kind -and made me feel welcomed. I was on call and unfortunately had two phone call I had to take, and my waitress was so gracious to send back one of my plates so that it can come out later warm and fresh. The service felt like casual fine dining, in the best sense. I really appreciated this. The happy hour menu is small but mighty. One thing I was intrigued by before coming here was that the corn is flown in from Mexico, celebrating and providing a cultural experience. I'm so grateful that they delivered on the oral experience with the balance in flavor, texture, and spice. No one ingredient overpowered the dishes service, and even the spice was there, but not to a miserable level that often leaves me suffering as I eat my food. I had the sopes de picadillo and the taco de puesto. Seriously a glorious meal. I wish I was hungrier so I could try more. Because of my work schedule, I couldn't return back during my trip, but I wish I had the chance. I would definitely make it a priority to dine here again if afforded the chance to return to Boulder!

The bar tender (the guy bar tender) had no problem giving prompt service to the group of blonde sorority girls who came and sat beside us. Meanwhile my daughter and I kept having to wave him down and kept sitting there with no one servicing us. Every time we wanted something I basically had to call out to his back. But the girls next to us waited on nothing. The other bartender was very busy making drinks and prep for the rest of the restaurant. Understandable. The bar area was not even half full. So I left a comment on the check. Had they been busy, I would have understood. But this restaurant is custom to long waits at times so last night was not apparently busy. I got blasted and attacked by someone whom I assume works there on social media for my comment despite the bad service. Long lengthy attack called all kinds of names and wished a bad life. So I can get crappy service and am required to say nothing. But can get attacked by a restaurant worker online because well, I'm perimenopausal and self-righteous in their eyes. Thanks bar taco. Will I stay a regular? Or will your employees stay on my attack? Never mind the info on my cc receipts is supposed to be held private by the restaurant.

To begin, my server, Amos, was charismatic, attentive, and very forthcoming about what his favorite items were and portion sizes. Atmosphere was quaint, but rustic Mexican bar with fair decorations; not over the top by any means. Food and portions were decently sized and prices weren't astronomical, actually pretty reasonable for the food you order. My order was two of the carnitas tacos with refried beans and let me tell you it was marinated well, had a nice kick to it and tasted excellent with a side of cilantro I had as a topper. While I don't have any pictures, due to phone being dead, I'd definitely recommend Santo to anyone passing by looking for a good meal for a reasonable price. Ask for Amos!

I tried the chicken tinga taco, carnitas taco, short rib enchilada with Christmas sauce, and the chicken tinga tostada. The chicken tinga tostada was definitely my favorite. It had really fresh greens and a lot of flavor without being too heavy. The chicken tinga taco was probably my second favorite and had some of those same flavors. The carnitas taco was good too, but it didn't stand out quite as much compared to the other two. The enchilada was probably my least favorite, although I really liked the red sauce. I got the Christmas sauce with both the green and red sauces, and the red had a really nice smoky flavor. The service was actually impressive. Our server was really friendly, and somehow we got our food faster than we usually do at some fast food places. I recently saw that a different family group operated this one in a very convenient part of Boulder so I decided to give it a try. A favorite classic family run restaurant with a similar menu had closed in 2014 after being in operation for 20 years. We missed that sort of menu. This is it, all the way to type of sopapillas and the classic plates with rice and beans , sauce and melted cheese. The family appeal carries through from hosts to servers to clearing staff. The menu is large though it appears that most only vary by central item. The entrees all come with the same sides and a sauce. Next time I will ask for light sauce as it pretty much buried my tamales. They need to stand out and shine and I love the taste of masa. The server was right on the spot with our drinks and we had a comfortable and clean booth. Chips and salsa were at the table as we were seated. They are plainer than some in town but still fresh and classic and free, just like Casa Alvarez, our old classic. The place was buzzing with customers young and old a perfect place for a comfortable and swiftly served meal. The space filled up quickly and though they have an enclosed patio and an open patio, not a soul for takers including us, on a 30° degree evening with a "breeze" so there was a line for tables as we left.
