This neighborhood is full of awesome restaurants with great ambiance, but I am so happy that we stumbled upon Monsun. The restaurant was busy, but warm and friendly. Well-decorated in a modern, but cozy way, we felt right at home. The staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming, as well. Everything we had to eat was great. We started with some spring rolls and a pork bun, which were both very good (especially the pork bun, which had a phenomenal flavor). For the entree, I got char siu pork noodles and I seriously can't rave enough. At many restaurants, char siu can be try or overcooked, but it was absolutely perfect at Monsun. I would totally suggest visiting if you get the chance!

Could have been more attentive, but it was pretty ok. I went for some small dishes. Duck and a bun of sorta. Food was just ok and I felt the spring roll lacked a flavour... I am pretty sure I would have been more happy trying some of their other dishes...and they could maybe work on the plating a little. But thats details ofc. I will for sure go back another time and try something else. Price is ok.

The broth was a bit salty for my liking. Noodles were perfect, the size, the texture and firmness of the noodle was just how I like it. The meat was tender and melted in your mouth, the boiled egg yoke was overcooked. I like it when it's still soft. Gyoza was mostly meat, no veggies. Wouldn't order them again as I like my gyoza with more veggie and less meat. Service was quick. Parking is indoors, which is very advantageous for the cold months. Take the elevator up and you don't need to go outside! They share space with an Indian restaurant. There is a coat hanger and it's spacious. I would definitely come back here.

I like the texture of the ramen, tastes quite authentic, not the "make-believe" ones you get from most non-Japanese restaurants here in Norway. The ambience is rather quiet, but I wouldn't say its kids friendly or good for large groups of people. We ordered the spicy ramen (mostly likely spicy miso ramen, since the broth base is miso) and Tangi ramen, which has two pieces of fried chicken on top,m. However, the soup-base for the tangi didn't quite hit the spot for me. The price is average, around $15-$20 per bowl, which is a decent price in Oslo. Overall I like it and would come back again.

We were seated quickly and had time to look at the menu before ordering. My fiancé ordered the Pho bo (beef) and I ordered the pho ga (chicken). It's a little different from the usual pho we order because they include meatballs in pho bo (which normally would be a separate type of order) and the pho ga had marinated chicken. The broth was light and savory, with much of the flavor coming from the meat. It was so flavorful!! We also ordered the summer roll, a usual appetizer everywhere we go, which was packed well and had eggs and a tiny egg roll! I haven't had it like this anywhere else (not even back at home). It was also a great dish to start with before the main dish! The place can get pretty crowded but every time we've gone in we have been lucky to beat the dinner and lunch rush.

It seems too good to be true by just looking at the pictures on their facebook ads. Although I forgot to take picture of the buffét bar, it wasn't really much to take pictures of because I remember every single dish. Some chicken red curry that looked heavenly but tasted like air (tasteless favourless characterless everything-less) the rice smelled like coconut rice, but also tasteless. Then some fried noodle that didn't look as tempting. And fried-rice and wok that didn't really catch my attention because they don't really look appealing. Some fried chicken that were also tasteless and shivreled burnt springrolls (I suspect that they just haven't changed the frying oil for ages) that had like nothing inside and the shells weren't even crispy. On the top of the bar there were the typical asian-restaurant shrimp chips and some bean sprouts salads that also tasted NOTHING. Overall their sushi totally made up for the other dishes, creative maki rolls, some with salmon, others with tuna and most of them were tempura scampi. My favourite one was definetely the salmon sashimi. Their nigiri looked beated so I didn't wanted to risk foodpoisoning. I somehow managed to make my dish look dangerously sexy for Yelp! Giving it 3 stars because I'm a nice person. The price were totally NOT worth it. I could have just gone to an ordinairy sushi restaurant instead of going to a buffet for sushi.

But, on…read moreour last night with our granddaughter in Oslo, we craved a change from all those delicious steamed-in-cream muscles, tasty baked salmon and classic smoresbords. Izakaya fit the bill. In fact, it may have ended up being the best meal of our week-long trip. Yes, as you've read and can see from other Yelpers' photos, it's teeny tiny inside. But, when you get lucky and get seated, it's nice and cozy. You certainly aren't merely one 2-top in a long boring row of tables that's for sure. There's no sign outside but because it has a distinctive look on the exterior (see photos of the heavy grillwork on the windows) you really can't miss it. A Yelper's description of 'Japanese tapas' is right on the mark, tho this is a bit of mixed metaphor. Dishes (especially the last two below) are relatively small. Maybe four dishes will do for two people but you'll likely end up as we three did: wanting a bit more. We started with the Gyoza. Definitely delicious and served piping hot. Next was Bang Bang Ji - shredded chicken, julienned cucumber, and a spicy sauce. Good and a nice prelude to the Mazemen. Our hands-down favorite of the night was the Mazemen, broth-less ramen with a delicious sauce, oil, and toppings. Especially delicious with the egg (poached?) mixed in. Had we immediately ordered another three more bowls of this wonderfully tasty dish I doubt if there'd have been much of an objection! Okonomiyaki - a savory pancake. Good. We didn't want to leave without a bit more. So, we ordered the Senmaizuke, pickled turnip and chili with a sweet, tangy vinegar marinade, and the Shiitake no fukumeni, mushrooms simmered in a sweet and savory broth. Both of these relatively small dishes were quite delicious - but really would have tasted best as early appetizers. The Kirin beer really hit the spot. Service was quick and efficient. Pacing was fine with no rush despite the line that had formed in the little foyer. YELPER HINT: if you're stuck in the line but thirsty, you can go on in and stand at a small (2 ft. wide) open section of the bar and order/pay for beers (not sure about their cocktails) and then re-take your place in line. In short, Izakaya could - and likely will - provide your tastiest, most interesting and perhaps even your most delicious meal in wonderful Oslo.
