Extremely tasty Chinese. We just popped in after walking around Oslo and we're very pleasantly surprised. It's definitely a little fancy, I liked the vibe. My boyfriend is Norwegian so that helped. Wow, this restaurant has been one of the most rewarding dining experiences from beginning to end. If you are in Oslo and want to see a symphony of collaboration between chefs, serving staff, and the guest, I highly recommend this place. The food is just mouthwatering, from the sight alone one starts involuntarily salivating and each bite was special. What an excellent restaurant and it was totally last minute. We just arrived to Oslo in the late evening and there were 8 of us so not many options for a big group for a late dinner. Had dinner there twice this week. Excellent both times. Surprised we were able to get reservations short notice. All of their "pot" dishes are really good and can be very spicy. This was recommended to us as the best Chinese restaurant in Oslo, which to be fair one can only expect so much since most Chinese food in the US is pretty iffy at best as well with far more Chinese people. The people who run the restaurant are all Chinese. The food tends to focus on Cantonese (Dim Sum) and Szechuan, but isn't exactly authentic. The venue is very sleek and intimate and feels more like a western restaurant/bar and definitely caters to a Millennial "hip" crowd. The stir fried vegetables were mostly squash and cellophane noodles and not very good. The half crispy duck came with fresh thin pancakes and all the expected fillings but the duck was quite dry and they shredded it instead of slicing. The 4 piece dim sum basket had 3 fried items and a shumai, which was by far the closest to the real thing. ~100 for dinner for two with a beer. If you are desperate for something resembling Chinese late night, and care more about atmosphere that food, come here. read more

Major disappointment. We saw the Michelin star on the door and that the place was packed so we expected it should be phenomenal food. Well off the bat, the service wasn't good. We were told we had an hour and a half to eat. After we sat down and got our drinks, we wanted three items off the dim sum section as there were only two of us and we don't eat much. Unfortunately, the restaurant has a weird policy, they refused to serve us unless we got four items from the dim sum section or two items and an entree. We compromised on two dim sum and an entree. The kindest way to describe the food is that it's better than most Chinese takeout "restaurants" in NYC. No idea why so many people go here. read more

Unbelievably unpleasant. I should have just left. I wondered how they could have a Michelin Star, and turns out they don't really! They have a plate, not a star, and that explains quite a bit. We got there and ordered drinks and some dumplings to start. But the waiter immediately and rudely tells us we MUST order an entree and things from the dim sum menu don't count! How is that possible?! It's a dim sum restaurant. What he really should have said were that the portions were small and we'd likely would want more food. But instead he made it sound like we either had to order more, or chug our drinks and go. I should have left right then, but I figured given the reviews, it had to be good. But no! Everything was mediocre at best. The restaurant was also loud and the table next to us nearly knocked over our stuff as they got up. Excellent gourmet Chinese in the heart of Oslo. Starters include a very flavorful and appropriately spiced hot and sour soup and wagyu dumplings. They have four different kinds of duck, a breaded lamb with sauce, and an array of chicken and beef dishes befitting of any upscale Chinese menu. There is a difference between a Norwegian eating Chinese food and a Chinese eating Chinese food. To me, this is overpriced Chinese food catering to rich Norwegians. The room, atmosphere, service was as expected for your money. If you don't count being surrounded by ignorant couples eating an egg roll with a fork and knife. Wine selections probably one of the best part of the meal. Strangely- the most memorable aspect for me was the rice. It brought me straight back to my childhood, the countless Chinese restaurants I've grown up in. Got the Chefs course, 499,-. The starter was an assortment of fried stuff, but cheap and average- strange at a fine dining place. The crispy duck was on par, very good- but of course I got distracted by customers who kept wrapping it with fork and knife.... Fish mains was good, nothing spectacular- but proper Sichuan hot like I asked (halfway through service I just start speaking Chinese, which shocked them a bit). Dessert was average and obviously straight outta a freezer. I know this is what it costs at places like this in Oslo. But it still makes me long for home. We were excited about eating at Dinner. The atmosphere was extremely nice, the reviews were outstanding. But after eating there, the restaurant must have written their own review. The waiter was rude, took 10 minutes to get a menu, another 10 minutes to get water. When he took our order, he was useless in helping us choose an entree. We received items that did not resemble what we ordered. The presentation was nice but food was undercooked. Waiter never came back to ask how our meal was. The table next to us took a long piece of hair out of their rice-totally gross! Don't believe what you read on the reviews, this place was a disgrace other than the ambiance. Yes the food is high quality and very tasty, but in another big city they could never get away with charging the amount they do and let people wait for around an hour for their meal. This is considered a "hip" place in the center of Oslo. it is apparently the most popular and successful restaurant out of a few the owner has around the city. See my other review for Noodee Barcode (one of the other restaurants owned by the same chain). My friends and I went there for lunch and the food was very underwhelming. We all got the same thing: seafood soup and bento box lunch combo. The seafood was way too sweet for my taste and the bento box was very underwhelming in the sense that it tasted like anything you would get in the frozen section of a supermarket. Nothing was very special. On top of that, the food took soooooooo long. We waited at least 45 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Service was very underwhelming at all. I found our waitress to be quite abrasive, borderline rude. As a connoisseur of Chinese food, this is nothing authentic or original. The bill came out to $50/each, which for the price, was a complete disappointment. Do not recommend and would certainly not come again. Recommended in the Guide Michelin, this is not your ordinary noodle place. Suit up and mosey down to perhaps the best oriental place in Oslo. The service is attentive and low voiced, the food is as beautiful as it is excellent. This is where you bring your date to show off your chopstick skills while she blinds you with her diamond earrings. We all had the Lunch box -- a selection of tasteful samples of Chinese specialties, beautifully arranged in a box with six compartments. Dinner has a nice selection of teas and we were recommended the Genma Cha green tea with the course. Good choice. The service was impeccable-- we had the waiters' attention through the whole meal. The venue is classy and low lit, the bathroom was spotless though a bit hard to find. I would gladly have given Dinner a higher rating if the bill had stayed under 250 Nkr per person. It did not, even though we only had beer and tea with the food. But then again, if this paves the way to a happy ending of your date, it may well be worth it. read more

Visited Dinner at the advise of the Continental Hotel Concierge. Was seated downstairs, which was a great section with a sleek atmosphere. Started with the Siu Mai from the Dinner dim sum menu. It was a descent order of three dumplings with a wonderful dipping sauce. After this, I moved to the highlight of the meal, the Kam-Kon-Pot. I order the dish spicy, as I love hot food, and it delivered on the promisses. It hurt so good. The dish was full of flavor which led to a chilli high that had me going back for more. All in all, it was a great meal easily accessed from the hotel. What more could a frequent traveler ask for? read more
