Grandma's 90th birthday dinner
Benjamin C.

We had a large family gathering here right before Christmas to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday. They definitely serve traditional Cantonese style cuisine here. The fried rice and lobster were excellent, and the dim sum was also excellent (we came back for dim sum the next day). However, the quality of some of the dishes was slightly off. For example, the bird's nest dish was not crispy, and the sauce on the sweet and sour pork was not as flavorful as I'm used to tasting. Food aside, my main gripe about this place is how slow they are in getting out the food. Dinner took about 4 hours (granted, we had events going on, but I'm thinking it should have taken about 3). Dim sum took about 3 hours. We did have large gatherings at dinner and dim sum, but they still need to vastly improve their output time.

Dropped in for a quick lunch. I was one of 2 tables occupied. Service was very slow. Perhaps they had a lot of take out orders at the time. I ordered the lunch special - Mongolian beef and brown rice. It also came with a ginger salad and spring roll. Although the food was slow to come out, it was hot and fresh. The beef was flavored well a tad bit over cooked but overall it was a good meal.

This place has decent quantity and quality for the buck, especially in the post pandemic era with high inflation/cost of living. They have several menus, which was a bit confusing. There were a dim sum menu with pictures, a Chinese menu with mostly lo mein and other fried/wok dishes, and an American dinner menu with everything else. We came for dinner so we first asked for the Chinese menu but it didn't have any noodle with soup, and they had to bring us the American menu, which were very Americanized (even the beef in the noodle soup was a bit sweet). Their waitress was super friendly though, and was very patient to explain to us everything. The dim sum dishes tasted good, but they took a very long time to bring out, and we already finished eating the noodles at that time. They even have a buffet option with even more different dishes. I think they are trying too hard to please everyone, and they lost focus and it turned out to be a "jack of all, master of none" kind of situation. Oh, and they even have a drive-thru. I mean, really? What kind of proper Chinese restaurant has a drive-thru? I wish they'd instead focused on cleaning a bit more, cause the floor was sticky, and the hand soup in the restroom was watered down. So, the sanitary condition brings down their rating significantly.

"Orange Shrimp" without the sauce they forgot.

Ordered for delivery tonight and several things were wrong/missing from my order, and the food we got did not taste right at all. Orange Shrimp came without the sauce and without the rice, so it was just fried shrimp thrown into a box. The combo plate where you can get multiple small orders of entrees with a side were mixed together and not separated, so everything tasted the same. Trying to get my husband to expand his tastes and figured maybe a little of everything would help but not from this place. The noodles were bland, tasteless, and way overcooked/gummy. The fried sugar biscuits tasted like they were cooked in old oil. They didn't give me the soup that I ordered at all. Tried calling the restaurant with no answer. Have requested a refund through UberEats. It's sad because the location in Germantown was always decent when I worked in that area. I have pictures of the food, and it just looks sad....and for $50 to feed my family, that's ridiculous.

Awful, food is old and refrozen. Only food that came out fresh from kitchen is their Eggplant stuffed with shrimp.

If I'm in the mood for dim sum, I would go here or Asian Palace. I like Noodles atmosphere more. Lots of great options for dim sum & will definitely be back here again. I will definitely say, get the sponge cake in the end. Seriously so good.

BBQ pork bun (baked char siu bao)

I was one of only three tables Saturday around 11:30 which I thought was surprising, but they did have a couple of drive through orders because you can hear them as you sit in the dining room. Anyway let me say service was pleasant and attentive throughout the time was there. Worthy of a 5-star rating. Now the food .... I came for dim sum but there was no cart service. Simply mark what you want on the menu. The first two items that came out were the baked char siu bao and and the baked egg tarts (dan tat). Then came the other dishes trickling out one or two dishes at a time. Not s big deal, but the spacing between servings could have been better. Overall the food as pretty good, with the shrimp rice roll my favorite. The roasted duck looked good but didn't have much flavor except for the sauce, which in turn was overpowering. The pork and shrimp siu mai, however was not good. It definitely wasn't fresh, and we agreed the seasoning was off (or the meat was bordering on going bad) in any case, we didn't like it. But the rest, like I said, was ok. That being said, the dim sum overall at Asian Palace on Summer is better.

I'm visiting my dad for the month, and I was super excited to hear that there was dim sum in the area! This was my dad's first time going also. Overall, the food was amazing! We got two orders of chicken feet (dad's favorite), taro root cake (my favorite), tripe, steamed rice in lotus leaf, and a dish I cannot remember the name of. They do a great job of persuading you (almost demanding at times) to get a certain dish. That's what happened to the last dish, haha. We also got shrimp dumplings (that they wanted us to get two orders of, haha). For cleanliness, our table was sticky. The floors were sticky also as you walked. Lastly, I was pretty disappointed to be seated where the overhanging light fixture didn't work. Would I come back? Certainly! There isn't any dim sum where I live (in California).

Salt & pepper shrimp...no salt no pepper.

Ordered online and picked up in the drive-thru. Someone should check on the cook. They are clearly mad or sad and it is affecting the quality of the food they are serving. No seasoning and no love. Fried rice is completely barren...no onions, eggs, or veg of any kind. My soup tastes scorched and is also devoid of flavor. The only thing that had any taste is the sauce pouted over the sesame chicken but even that was disappointing. Inalso ordered beef and twice fried noodles.. the beef is good.. Maybe the clientele prefers a seasonless tasteless preparation. First and last visit for me...a real shame.

This place is good for dim sum. If they serve Chinese food and Chinese people eat there, it's a good sign. I'm Vietnamese and was a miroity for Sunday dim sum. We missed the peak of rotation so the food on the carts was a little cold. This place serves good food, but could be a bit nicer, cleaner. Go if you want good Chinese food that Chinese folks eat.

My usual Thai restaurant was closed today so we decided to try this one. It was a huge mistake. Everything we ordered was terrible. The egg rolls tasted like there was something slimy inside. The Pad Thai & Drunken Noodles had no flavor at all and only chunks of "beef" in it that did not taste like meat at all. I rarely leave negative reviews but I swear I want my money back from this place! It was horrible.

I have been to this place several times. One at lunch -- they only had 2 waiters working, the other during a holiday and the place was packed. I don't like to go when they are busy, especially during dim sum. Ours was lukewarm and we didn't get a lot of attention. I like this place and the food is good when they are not busy

The restaurant is clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated with a traditional Chinese touch that even changes with the seasons. The manager is incredibly nice! I highly recommend the siu mai and the dry beef rice noodle. The siu mai are huge and super juicy, and the beef rice noodle has that perfect smoky, charred aroma from high-heat stir-frying! The carts carrying small dishes of delicious tasting morsels, sort of a tapas experience with Chinese food rather than Spanish. The food is solid if not spectacular. The ambiance reminds me so much of my experiences in Hong Kong. Not to mention the good housekeeping seal of approval when you see how many Chinese and Asians are there dining! If the people who know what 'real Chinese cooking' is all about are eating there, you know you are getting as close to the real thing as possible. Friendly staff will help you on ordering if you ask, but as a rule they will assume you know what you want when you sit down. If you are unfamiliar just ask. I've never had any issues getting answers. So, if you are looking for 'real' Chinese food, served in a unique way, please check out Dim Sum King...but be careful. The plates are small and the food is delicious but don't get too carried away trying everything because it is surprisingly filling. Which is nice because you'll want to come back again.

I really liked the Ma Po Tofu which was unexpected because I usually don't like tofu. But this tofu was super soft and decently flavorful. The Egg Drop Soup was very flavorful and doesn't have the weird aftertaste that some of them have. I wasn't as impressed with the Ma La chicken as I hoped so I wouldn't get that for myself again but everything else was delicious and I'd get it all again. The Vietnamese Coffee was really cool. Our server, Josh, provided excellent service and made the entire experience enjoyable. He was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. For our meal, we ordered the spicy chicken with white rice, which was flavorful and freshly prepared. Everything arrived hot and tasted delicious. We also started with the crab wontons as an appetizer, which were my personal favorite. PRICE: As a patron for nearly 15 years, the prices continue to (dramatically) rise beyond the point of justification. Appetizers reach nearly $17 for six (6) crab wontons and dinner entrees $20+. So, it's no longer a restaurant I'd recommend as a "go to." However, if affordability is not a factor for you, I can guarantee your meal will be delicious! LOCATION/PARKING: The Ridgeway Rd site is located directly in front of a local shopping mall and is surrounded by several upscale dining establishments (Seasons 52, Capital Grille, Ruth Chris, etc.). There's plenty of free parking conveniently on all sides of the restaurant. AMBIANCE: This location has steady foot traffic. Service is busy without being overwhelming. The atmosphere is dimly lit and cleanly. Staff are always kind and attentive. FOOD: As I said before, my deductions are certainly not food related. From appetizer to dessert, I've never had a bad dish from P.F. Chang's. I will say - - the popular dishes are popular for a reason. So, it's okay to believe the hype around the Lettuce Wraps, Dumplings, Mongolian Beef, etc. For those looking to go without breaking the bank, I recommend planning ahead. Try to go at Happy Hour to take advantage of discounted prices and don't be afraid to ask your server about Chef's Feast for 2 and other set menu discounts.
