As Ive settled into my new digs, Wangs has become a place that we order from at least twice/month. Hubby always gets kung pao chicken w/extra peanuts. My go to order has to be the chicken w/zuchinni and mushrooms (extra chicken). If im super famished, I will add shrimp toast. Wangs is one of the few restaurants I know that serves shrimp toast, and they do a great version. It can be a little greasy at times, but I can usually just remedy that with some paper towels. The texture is amazing and the flavor is exactly what I want. Someone said the pan fried dumplings are a must have, and I will have to try those next time. read more

BEST FRIED DUMPLINGS! I still love this place and drop by for their dumplings whenever I'm in the area. Their spring rolls are also yummy. The Dragon and Phoenix was just meh. The shrimp was good but there wasn't as much as I would've liked. But the breading on the chicken was too much for me and I just wouldn't get that again. I can confirm, having tried two more breaded chicken dishes, that I do not like the breaded chicken here. I will stick to the grilled chicken. Since moving from Nashville, we have been craving a Chinese takeout spot that could rival China Spring. I think this spot definitely could fill that role. I really wanted to like this place and in fact the first time I ordered here using GrubHub I was pleased. I ordered from here 2 more times and it kept getting progressively worse. My last time (and final time) ordering here was not good. They use extremely cheap packaging (or they just haven't figure a good way to pack items) which cannot hold up when being transported. Sauce container busted and leaked all over the bag. In fact, they haven't had dine-in since the pandemic. It's all to-go & delivery ... but every single time my orders are HOT & FRESH & very FLAVORFUL ... & FAST!!! Incredibly Fast -even their deliveries! The family is a delight to talk to -but it's difficult with all the calls they take. I've seen their prices go up -from surprisingly cheap (great for UM students) to "reasonable" (with current inflation.) Our very frequent orders: +Egg Rolls (always hot & crisp) +Crab Rangoons (perfect!) +General Tso's Chicken (never spicy enough, but flavorful!) +Wonton Soup (Note: My only complaint is that it can be inconsistent -sometimes slightly weak/watery, sometimes salty. Starving. Needed to dine NOW. So, we ordered from Wang's Mandarin, just up Highland Street from us. We splurged a bit, got at least one dish more than we should have. (Eyes bigger than our tummies!) The online ordering system...less than brilliant, but much better than some. Dinner was rushed to us--earlier, in fact, than the advertised time--by a gentleman clearly of the restaurant staff, not some DoorDash-y guy. A small but important thing: All packages were closed tightly, no spillage whatever. And all of it hot--no need to nuke. FLAVOUR CITY, boys and girls! Sumptuous meats, scrumptious vegetables. Lotsa steamed rice. GOOD sauces. I'd rather have stringy crispy noodles for chow mein, but their shorter, broader noodles work okay. We had a GREAT dinner...and another great dinner the next night, with all the leftovers keeping well in the fridge. As to ambiance, Wang's Highland has none (unlike the fine ambiance at Wang's on Park). But, then, we'd decided to dine at home. I ordered the eggplant with garlic sauce. When I opened it at home there was a almost a half inch of oil floating on the top of the eggplant. I drained at much as I could, blotted it with paper towels, but the undercooked eggplant was still so saturated with oil it was inedible. I will not be going back here. read more

I'm so picky about Asian food, so don't knock the place based on 4 stars, because that's pretty good for me. I was deciding between the orange chicken or sesame chicken and the proprietor recommended the orange. I was lucky enough to chat with another customer while we waited on our food and he seemed like a regular and was pretty stoked about his dinner. He was also excited for me to get my first taste of the place. I really enjoyed my orange chicken, but the breading was heavier than I prefer. But the flavor was great. This restaurant saved the day. We were levering the grizzlies game and a weeknight and wanted assassin takeout. Every place we stopped was closed. Since this is in the U of M area, it was open a little later than other places. We pulled up as they were closing. They welcomed us in with a smile and were gracious when serving us. Wow! What a huge difference between here and Park! Is this even the same business, or do these owners just happen to share the same name? The appearance of the building is terrible. For me, it reflects a lack of pride. Upon entry, I was greeted with "$6.75". It was a warm and welcoming "$6.75", but that's the greeting I got. Pay first for buffet. $6.75 after tax for buffet with drink included is super cheap, and I'll usually add a star if I felt like I got my money's worth, but here cheap meant lack of quality and pride. Bless their hearts, I'm sure they're just barely getting by. Paper plates, plastic silverware and mediocre food is what they offer. Nothing on the buffet was terrible, but nothing made me want to come back. I'd do better ordering a lunch special somewhere off the menu. read more

A great little Chinese take-out thats legit Cantonese. As I have stated before you always need to know what province and style of cooking the Chinese proprietor specializes in. If its Cantonese the spicy dishes are not going to get good, the best route will be the lo meins and other non-spice dishes. I have had the lo mein twice and it was excellent. Chinese take-out has become a cute little Sunday tradition for my fiance' and I, so living within 3 miles of Wang's may have contributed just a tidbit in our house buying decision. While this place looks questionable on the outside, and even on the inside, the FOOD is quality stuff, man. My fiance' is loyal to their General Tso's chicken. It is the best we've ever had. Generous chunks of chicken sauced in a midly spicy, sweet red sauce created by the hands of angels. My other favorite is their Bean Curd Szechuan Style, which conveniently comes in one of their dinner specials that include rice (fried or plain) and a choice of app (spring roll or 4 pieces of crab wontons [get the crab wontons]). I LOVE sauce and this dish has plenty of spicy yummy sauce to toss in with your rice.... We've had various other dishes from them, and we have never been disappointed. So, I advise my fellow Yelpers to not be discouraged by the exterior, and if the interior creeps you out--then order take out. It is a decision you will not regret! I ordered takeout for my first experience. Went in with a craving for Hot and Sour soup on a cold rainy day. I also went ahead and ordered General Tsao's for my boyfriend and I to split. Portions were great. The Hot and Sour soup was exactly what I was craving. Very good with bits of meat and tofu amongst the veggies. The General Tsao's was just OK though. I like this dish more spicy than sweet. This reminded me of a mix of orange chicken and sweet and sour. Had a bit of heat but the sweetness was overwhelming enough that I really needed to eat only a tiny bit at a time. Also no veggies...some broccoli would have really rounded out the sweetness. Always a good choice for delivery after an Uber ride home from downtown. Ordered the Chicken with broccoli and garlic sauce. Lots of broccoli, little amount of chicken, thinly sliced and piled in the center on top of it all. They changed their containers to the standard styrofoam, not a good decision. Our food arrived nice and hot but, all the juicy juice with flavour had leaked all in the inside the plastic bag, thankfully they double bagged it. The styrofoam is enough for me personally, to never order take out again. Can't be recycled or reused, so sad with the state of our poor planet. Our driver was a little snarky when answering our delivery questions, too bad since we were prepared to tip %40 but instead, he received our standard %27.75.
