Been meaning to do my COVID reviews. We typically don't eat out much, but have been wanting to support local business during the COVID crisis. Noodle Barn was a new find (we've been trying new restaurants for take out) and we have ordered multiple times since March. Crab Rangoon (fabulous), Red Curry Tofu, Bun Curry Tofu (also fabulous), Panang Curry Duck. Best I have found in Boston. Food quality - 4.5 Very good food. It depends what you order, but anything with chicken is amazing. Highly recommend. Service - 2 Very slow service, I waited just over an hour, but it was extremely packed and I don't expect a new restaurant to have everything figured out. Price - 2.5 Quite pricy, but if you don't buy drinks you'll be alright. The smoothies are very good however! Atmosphere - 3 Not a bad atmosphere by any means. Nothing special, but a classic example of a private JP restaurant with a comfy layout. Total - 3/5 Not the best service, but the food is excellent, and I would recommend it to anyone who even mildly likes noodles read more

I've been looking for a good thai restaurant. I guess this one is ok, the food tastes fine. I ordered fried calamari, it's delicious just a little salty. The only thing I was not happy about is I ordered pad Thai twice And both times I think the chicken wasn't fully cooked. read more

Noodle Barn - Noodles Near Me - Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts

This is a solid spot for quick asian-Vietnamese food and dishes within that arena. After going a few times I have determined that it is best to go elsewhere for pad Thai, which is often dry and bland (I've had it here one three occasions). The pho is decent, tho certainly not the very best. However, drunken noodles, especially the seafood drunken noodles, were very good and just about the only thing I can truly recommend. For most other dishes I would recommend the nearby Spice Wonder Cafe. read more

This review is based on the Thai Iced Tea and the Pad See Ew. First there Thai Iced Tea has amazing flavor. Usually, most that I've tried are bland. Second, I LIVE for their Pad See Ew. I am from Los Angeles, their Pad See Ew reminds me of this one place back home and every time I am at JP I have to get their Pad See Ew. It makes me feel at home even though I am miles away from home. read more

This place never lets you down. Killer pad see ew, and the soups are always delicious. Staff is always very friendly and attentive. They have a few beers too. Good date night spot or take-out. This spot is a great addition to JP and I hope it's here for a long time. read more

Place is DELICIOUS! The staff is so nice and helpful. Really great location and mix of food styles (Thai, Vietnamese, etc). Love it.

We ordered a couple of things here and I thought they were okay not great but not horrible. Drunken noodles: I love these! I particularly order them at every Thai spot. These were okay. Super spicy. The spiciness too away from the dish. I know it's supposed to be spicy but there's were really spicy and it took away from the dish. I wouldn't order it again here. Chicken wings: tasted like fried wings that were tossed in hot sauce. Not very good. Fried wontons: I actually enjoyed these. They were crispy and the filing was also seasoned nicely. My friend had some noodle soup made with coconut milk that she enjoyed. It was pretty inexpensive. I think the bill was $40. I will probably not return here when in Boston. We only came here because my friend didn't want to drive to her favorite place in Norwood. Also, they sell beer and wine which I do not drink. read more

A lot of my friends truly are obsessed with noodle barn, so this was the choice for a Saturday afternoon lunch. I have had take out from here a few times before, and was never thoroughly impressed with their noodle dishes. This time around, I ordered a Banh Mi because I wasn't looking for a huge meal. The restaurant was empty except for our party of four, and eventually a party of three came in as well. It was a very hot day so it was nice to come inside and cool off and enjoy a meal with friends. I sat in a regular dining chair, I.e. Not the booth side, and jeez Louise I don't know who let them pick out these chairs. I've never griped about something so in the details, but the actual seat part of these chairs was like a 1 cm thick piece of aluminum. As I mentioned, it was extremely hot outside... we walk in, I sit on this chair with a skirt on (tucked under me) and my thighs are immediately glued to this thing via my sweat. It was super gross, and super uncomfortable. In the winter I can imagine the chairs being extremely cold. Moving on from the chairs, we ordered an appetizer of pot stickers, the tamarind duck, the mi xao noodles, crispy chicken pad Thai, and my banh mi. The potstickers came out promptly, they were fine but pretty flavorless. They could've been frozen and I wouldn't have been shocked. Our food took an oddly long time to come due to the fact that at the point of our order, we were literally the only customers there. However, we were chatting and weren't too bothered by it. My biggest complaint about this visit (aside from the chairs, haha) was that about 6-7 staff members were congregated by the beverage area at the front of the restaurant, loudly speaking to each other, goofing around. I've worked in food service before, I know when it's slow inside and hot outside it almost drives you mad, but I really felt like we, the customers, had to be talking over them just to have a conversation. It was incredibly unprofessional and I was also wondering why the heck they didn't have anything else to do. The only staff member doing anything was the hostess, who was wiping down menus and standing her post. The group chatter didn't stop throughout our whole visit, but eventually our food came and it was no longer our focus. Everyone really enjoyed their respective dishes, and I was pleasantly surprised by how large the Banh Mi was. I still wasn't blown away by the flavor. I have had much better and more authentic Vietnamese cuisine in several different places. This is never my first choice to go when in JP, and it still won't be after this visit. read more

I'm really glad I gave this place a 2nd chance! I went when they first opened and the kitchen was having serious issues, ended up just walking out after waiting for my food for almost an hour. Not true the past 3 times I've gone! Food is fantastic, good straightforward thai/vietnamese dishes. Seating is a little cramped, you might have to get pretty friendly with the people next to you. Service is quick and polite. I had a really fun dish where you make your own fresh rolls, and the roasted pork was oh my god! read more

VEGETARIANS BEWARE... Let me tell you a little story: a vegetarian and a guy with a severe fish allergy walk into a Noodle Barn... long story short... the items on the menu that are marked as vegetarian are not actually vegetarian. The menu has a bunch of items with a little green leaf next to them, and a legend that says that means they can be made vegetarian. My boyfriend ordered a curry that had that symbol next to it, and told the waitress he has a seafood allergy. Basically they admitted that even when they make it "vegetarian", the sauce is pre-packaged and has fish in it "but it's only a little bit of fish!" When I (the vegetarian) called her on this and told her she should tell the owners that it's not okay to advertise something as vegetarian when it's not, she was incredibly dismissive. I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because my boyfriend a) did not go into anaphylactic shock when he finally got a meal, and b) said he really liked his lemongrass chicken. But I ordered a "vegetarian" dish myself and got horrible GI distress about twenty minutes after eating... very unusual for me. Also, as many have noted, the service sucked. read more

Update: We stopped in here a couple of weeks ago. Dismal. It took nearly an hour to receive our food and what arrived consisted of wet, flavorless veggies. I had ordered the Thai Basil. Something similar but less egregious happened once before. Despite having waited an hour, we decided to leave without eating anything. The staff nevertheless charged us full price. Will not return for at least 6 months. Old review: While not earth-shattering, I've enjoyed the food at Noodle Barn and have found the service more than adequate. On our first visit, I tried the Pad Kee Mao and my wife ordered green curry with chicken. On our third visit, I tried the Indonesian fried rice, the fresh rolls (that you roll yourself) with beef and my wife enjoyed the Papaya Salad. Decent (though not super) food accross 3 dishes - plus a glass of wine and 2 beers - for $50. A steal by JP standards. The venue sits a single, open, brightly-lit space. I enjoy the democratic feel of an open dining area set to the persistent din of others' conversations. Again, Noodle Barn won't rock your world. That said, everything tasted competent (nothing tasted watered down) and, for the price, most other JP options fail by comparison. So many other JP eateries tend to upsell on perceived fanciness - rather than quality. The JP 'foodie' culture makes me wonder... you'll typically find better, more interesting food, for less $$, in Cambridge, South End, Southie, Brookline and Newton. JPers should embrace Noodle Barn since it constitutes a welcome alternative, and stands in stark contrast, to its low quality, but grossly over-priced, local competition. read more

When I order my food online the delivery was quick! The chicken pho had a good flavor! The best dishes personally is the Pad See Ew with Shirmp. I always order it and it never fails to fill me up. The flavor is amazing and I enjoy that they don't add the extra (carrots, other veggies) read more

Cute place. I've been a half dozen times because I live locally. Each time I go I hope it'll be better than the last time, but it never is. The last time we went, there was a long hair in my food and I tried to call the server over for TEN MINUTES and she wouldn't come. Good but not great. Nice room, but tables are crowded too closely together. Service was friendly, but very rushed. We just had pho, so can't speak to the full menu. I was excited to try it for take out. We ordered crab rangoon (crispy) and the Canh Chua soup (as good as other places). However, the Gung Chicken was overpowering with strips of ginger and hardly any peanut. The Khoto Salmon was a big disappointment with overcooked hard salmon and NO vegetables (despite the menu's advertisement that it is"served with steamed mixed vegetables" and "chef's selected vegetables medley"). I guess the chef wasn't there that night. With missing vegetables and hard salmon, it's a definite NO. We will not be trying it again. Disappointing. read more

I lived in Dorchester for 10 years, home to the largest Vietnamese community in Massachusetts. I know my pho. I've tried Noodle Barn on three occasions because I wanted to find something I liked. Nada. The pho broth base is obviously from concentrate, has no aromatics or meaty bits, no toasted onion, garlic, just boring clear soup broth, like College Inn. Ok, so I tried the kimchi fried rice. Taxi! Clearly just house white rice with some kimchi and sprinkled with scallions. No vegetables, not even an attempt at seasoning. So finally, on what will be my last trip, I tried the Tom Yum soup. It was so sticky sweet, tasted like corn syrup, and a few over-cooked shrimp. Sorry, Noodle Barn, I tried...I just wish you had too! I'm leaving you for the rich, fragrant, soulful joy of authentic Vietnamese along the miracle mile of Dorchester Ave...just a few miles away. read more

Smaller portions than other noodle places (at least when it comes to the vermicelli plates). Great shrimp fresh rolls. Prompt service, overall great atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Cute decor, nice big screen tv. Awesome addition to the JP neighborhood! read more

Food wasn't any good. Portions were small for their pricing. Presentation of food and such cannot compare to many a great Thai places I have been to. Thai iced tea tasted like condensed milk with orange food coloring. Would not go back no matter that my friends say. I take Asian cuisine very seriously and this place is for inexperienced eaters! read more

Just a disclaimer to start, this review is based on a recent take out order. I've also eaten there twice and it was so so, but this takeout experience was bad enough that I won't go back. We ordered chicken pho and beef pho take out with tofu fresh rolls. The fresh rolls, were the worst I've ever had, including from a supermarket. They had only iceberg lettuce and bland tofu. But the worst was the beef pho. The beef that came with was completely raw. Sometimes I like ordering beef on the side, but we definitely didn't order it this way. The raw beef was thick cut and piled on top of the noodles, making the noodles not safe to eat. The idea is that the hot broth cooks the raw meat, but you have to keep the raw meat separate from the noodles and veggies, as anyone who has cooked knows. Overall the experience was really poor. For better vietnamese near by go to Bánh Mì Ngon in West Roxbury which is great. Next time we will make the drive. read more

The best Crab Rangoon I've found in Boston. They're not completely devoid of crab meat and not under-stuffed, which most I've found are.

We ordered takeout from Noodle Barn (unfortunately no delivery) and it was fantastic. The chicken drunken noodles were some of the best I've had, with really fresh tasting vegetables, and my friend ordered the mango curry, which was incredible. The only thing I wish they would change is their delivery policy, because then we would order from them way more often. read more

Love this spot! I've tried a bunch of dishes and all have been great. Ordered the red curry the past 5 or so times and I highly recommend. It's one of those dishes I'll probably get it every single time I go now. The spring rolls with the peanut sauce are fresh and delicious. Not a fan. Went for lunch and ordered the crispy pad thai along with a side of crab rangoon. Was real disappointed when they served my meal, crispy pad thai and ONE crab rangoon. Food was okay, not memorable and the wait staff seemed to be too busy to bother with patrons basically took your order, served your meal and then gave you the check. No plans to go back to the Noodle Barn. read more

The food here is boring and lacks any real flavor or character. The atmosphere is deceiving - it is a brightly decorated little joint. The staff was mediocre and leaning towards cold.
