Though I would really like to give Nomad a great review, I just cannot. I am actually grateful to see that we are not the only ones to have had a poor experience with them. Though Shane was professional upfront and accommodating with move date changes, the execution was worse than poor. The movers themselves were nice and on time and respectful, but again execution was very poor.
We moved from Arvada to San Diego. First Shane denied knowing that we had told them about a storage unit we had, which we clearly did. Second they seriously underestimated the move and we needed two extra 6x12 Uhaul trailers (which I paid for one which should have been covered by them) and it still was not enough. Granted the packers (separate review for Movemasters coming) were poor but this review only deals with the movers.
During moving day, my 3 young (10 and under) kids and I had to help them move items from the storage unit into the truck for an hour. Before I left, I piled everything left to be packed in the garage (much of which they had overlooked) and reviewed AGAIN what needed to go. Then I even bought them dinner on my way out. But apparently it is our responsibility to walk the house yet again and again to make sure they have done their job. After 10+ hours supervising I needed to be on the road with the kids (it was just me with 3 kids driving 7 hours to Moab and it was 7pm by now).
As a previous reviewer noted they jammed everything in every which way. We provide probably 50 moving blankets to ensure items were protected. However many furniture items and fitness equipment were not wrapped and instead they left a full box of them in the garage. TVs were packed on their side, etc. As we unpacked, we discovered more and more items missing and damaged. Here is a shortened list:
-Kids 6' roller coaster $100
-Extension Ladder $200
-8' step ladder $80
-Ironing Board $40
-Green Machine Big Wheel $150
-Electric Pressure washer $130
-Scrapes on high end Rogue fitness rack
-Scrapes on fitness rower
-Scrapes and gouges on coffee table
-Scrapes and gouges on bed footboard
-Dents on Gladiator garage cabinets
-Destroyed outside patio table
They also drove one of our vehicles, an SUV the provided even more packing space they hadn't planned on. The person who drove that vehicle SMOKED in it, though we specifically said he had better not. He put little air fresheners in the vents to try to get rid of the smell that made it even worse. Two months later the smell is finally going away. It was nauseating.
We also had to help unpack. They would never have finished in time unpacking either if their flight was not delayed home and we had not done so much to help. I again bought them lunch and even tipped them, not knowing that I should have kept that money for repairs and replacements.
We did contact Shane and he did try to resolve some of these issues and did provide compensation for some as well. However as we discover more stuff missing and damaged, he has decided he is done dealing with it, and now is suggesting some of this is somehow our fault.
I do think Shane and his team had the best intentions and indeed I think the moving team felt quite bad about how it went, however, this does not change anything. I would suggest another company, even if the price is a bit higher because in the end Nomad will be significantly higher when you have factor in the cost to replace items and/or get them repaired.
I think Nomad should stick with small, local moves. Perhaps that is where they excel. read more
