I've explored every type of asian cuisine in the area except Indonesian. I tried to find a restaurant but ended up with several food trucks. CAMBODIAN BEEF SKEWERS - I originally wanted to try their beef rendang b/c that's as Indo as you can get but it wasn't available. Instead I got their beef skewers since I am Cambo of course! I thought there was going to be an Indonesian twist but they tasted exactly like how my mom makes them. Good but it wouldn't be my go-to for this food truck. INDO BUTTER CHICKEN - This seems like the most popular dish they have right now and I can see why. The chicken is delicious with their sweet soy flavor. I could eat the rice alone with just the sauce. Each dish also comes with a Martabak beef pocket. You can taste the Indian influence in the beef and I loved the nom nom sauce (Asking for more nom nom sauce next time). I really think Indo/Malay food will be the next big thing in the Asian food scene so keep your eyes open! read more

Delicious new food truck! Unlike other Asian food trucks in DC they have some pretty unique South East Asian dishes. I had a hard time choosing between the Javanese chicken curry and the Indonesian sweet butter chicken but alas I settled for the latter. For $9 you get a generous serving of deliciously cooked and marinated chicken topped with cilantro and sweet fried onions. The dish also comes with refreshing, lightly pickled vegetables and a Martabak beef pocket. The veggies were so delightful especially in the summer heat. As an Indonesian myself, I can tell that this is make me surprised because of it's delicacy! So far I've tried 4 different menu and all was satisfying. The Javanese chicken curry, which of course the one I must try because it says "javanese" means Indonesia lol I want to eat it again and again. I love how they cook it, it was not too strong not too soft, just right but superb!!! I even drooling again just to write this review! I'll definitely will comw back if I had chance. TIP : for those who never tried south east asian food before, this food truck held few different varieties that can make you "travel" at the same time. I had the Indonesian sweet butter chicken, which was overall good. You get a lot of food for $9 and the dish was not overwhelmingly sweet. I took one star off because the larger chunks of chicken were tough and dry. 10/27/2015: I got the chicken pad Thai today. It was pretty bland and lacked the bold flavors that I've come to associate with the dish. And once again, the chicken was very dry. Having forgotten my lunch at home, I ventured out to check out the trucks for lunch today. Nom Nom Gourmet caught my eye - I love Asian food, and I hadn't had Thai in a while (although this truck is more of an Indonesian/Cambodian-focused truck, they did have a few noodle-based Thai and Chinese dishes). Since I hadn't tried this truck before, I pulled out my phone, opened up Yelp, and saw an average of 5 stars - that, coupled with the fact that this truck had the longest line - sold. Although I wavered a bit on what to order, my Thai food craving was pretty strong and I was feeling noodles vs. rice, so I decided on an order of Pad Thai with chicken, no sprouts. They asked me if I wanted it spicy, and I replied "a little spice" (I love spice, but I honestly prefer my Pad Thai on the sweet side - if I was going for spice I'd order something else entirely). I liked that the portion was extremely generous, especially for an under $10 meal. I also liked that the noodles were cooked well - not too soggy. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended for me. Maybe it's because I didn't ask for it spicy, but I found the noodles and chicken to be fairly dry. I also found it a little odd that there was broccoli in the dish as well, not something you'd typically see of Pad Thai. I ended up adding a good amount of Sriacha just to give it some moisture, which of course made it end up more on the spicy side than sweet, but that was ok - it was so dry that it honestly wasn't very sweet anyway, so at least now it was moist! The sauce also helped a lot with the broccoli, which was also on the dry side. Hmmm. Good, not great - "ok" (yep, minus the A-) is pretty on-point with what I'm thinking. Not bad enough to warrant a 2 - it was better than meh - maybe I just ordered the wrong thing and should focus on their Indonesian specialties. 2.5 stars. read more

It's usually pretty hard choosing where to eat with all the delicious trucks out, but as I'm still in my noodle phase I thought to get Pad Thai from Nom Nom Gourmet. I've never seen nor tried them, let alone (a lot of) Indonesian food before, so now seemed to be a good time. Besides, Pho on Wheels had a ridiculous line. I'm really glad that I tried them out. I got Cambodian noodles with shrimp (it was my first time trying Cambodian noodles!) Pretty impressed! I love that there were a good amount of shrimp that were well seasoned-- not just three steamed shrimp thrown on top. The egg was good as well. Decent portion for $10. Easily some of the best Asian food from a food truck I have had in DC yet. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food. For $9, I got a delicious Javanese yellow curry chicken dish, which comes with a side of pickled vegetables (carrot, cucumber, squash) and a delicious egg-roll wrapped thing called martabak--a fried pocket stuffed with ground beef and vegetables. The food isn't too heavy and I really appreciate the small details that the chef put into preparing the food, like the garnish of crispy onions on top of the curry and the slightly spicy mayo based sauce drawn in zig zags over the martabak beef pocket. More visually appealing, certainly, than most food from food trucks. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this discovery. People--get on the Nom Nom Gourmet. read more

Hooked! It's not easy to find great Indonesian restaurant, let alone a food truck!! The owners are very friendly and sweet. We had their delicious noodle soup with beef, curry chicken with beef martabak and sweet butter chicken. Noodle soup was very savory and comforting. Not too beefy yet very deep in flavor. Noodle was cooked perfectly. Beef was tender and flavorful. Fried garlic was icing on the cake! Chicken curry was authentic. Spicy, tender, and aromatic. Side of pickle was as good as I can remember from Indonesia. Pickled enough yet veggies are still tender and crunchy. Beef martabak is a great addition! I can chow that delicious beef pocket all day long... And the sweet butter chicken tasted so homey. I had the chicken lo mien and ordered it "spicy" and it was delicious! The noodles were saucy and flavorful and the dish included LOTS of fresh vegetables...green onions, carrots, bean sprouts, broccoli and probably more than I can remember. 5 stars based on their pad Thai alone. Have had it a few times and I prefer the shrimp. I thought their pad Thai was better than the one served by Mango Tree. Good size portion and value. I had dumplings once and they were tasty. Tried the lo mein once as well. While lo mein is boringin general, theirs was a bit better, and fresher tasting then your standard version. OK, so where has Nom Nom been all my life?! Started working downtown recently, not far from Verizon Center and the National Portrait Gallery, and was delighted to discover the long line of food trucks nearby to check out (fortunately, including Nom Nom). For the first time ever I tried something I've only read about in food blogs: Indonesian nasi goreng. It's their version of fried rice, I guess, but way more delicious than any fried rice I've had before. I had the vegetarian version with tofu and eggs for the protein. It was so awesome. I could eat it several times in one week! Not sure what seasonings it has but it was so flavorful to the max. It had some lightly pickled vegetables to the side - a perfect complement. That's all I've tried since I'm a first-timer with these guys, but I suspect the rest of the menu is also out of this world (look at all the 5-star reviews). I hope these guys return often and soon.
